You can’t be fooled by that you know real nice face and you know that real quiet demeanor when he stepped on on the court he was out to get you he had toughness Beyond [Applause] toughness hey guys this is Dominique wils hey this is sh ke this is Gary PT hey this is basol NBA fans what’s up this is Vince Carter here hey what’s up this is Matt bars if you’re an old school NBA fan like I am make sure you

Check out the basketball time machine with my man Sean Davis hey guys how’s it going welcome back to the basketball time machine my name is Shawn David thanks for tuning in let’s talk some old school NBA basketball in today’s episode again I want to take a look at some NBA legends

Talking about how great John Stockton was and I’m pretty happy that I found a couple of clips that you probably hopefully haven’t seen before but before we start with this episode let me ask you guys for a small favor please subscribe to the channel and like the

Video if you enjoy the content all right you guys let’s do It now the first clip that I found was from alen Iverson who talked a little about John Stockton and who obviously has a great respect for Stockton let’s take a look ow always um used the you know a a John Stockton analogy you know he might not have been the um most

Athletic guy you know what I mean on the on the court but he was so effective he could dominate the game by you know thinking the game his mind you know what I mean and um letting the game come to him and you know seeing things before they happen knowing you know what’s

Going on in the game you will not have Carl Malone sitting here right now with John Stockton that little white kid from Spokane yeah she has just become the NBA alltime leader at Steels he already has the record in assist welcoming John to the Hall of Fame is Isaiah Thomas you

Know I took John into the Hall of Fame you know he and I have known each other since we were like 13 12 years old I had no idea yeah oh his father was the one that always kind of Mr Jack kept us together didn’t let the media pull us

Apart or anything like that and the way John played right he ran the point guard position like none other and it was always perfect there’s no two players that epitomize hard work I’m going say three players you Stockton and your coach Jerry Sloan that that’s the Mount

Rushmore of hard work 7 Seconds 6 five stock and grass put it up it’s good Stockton John Stockton unbelievable John Stockton taught me how to also be a champion IND directly cuz playing against him at the point guard position every possession you had to concentrate he’s probably the guy who I

Hated guarding the most because most guys you guard you’re trying to stop from scoring with John you had to try to stop him from passing and the other thing that he probably was the best I’ve ever seen even to this this day best screening guard in the history of our

Game I we we see all the records with the assists and the Steals and that stuff was incredible and his longevity but he had a mean streak in him and that guy with the liver blows with his ability to set screens unlike anybody you’ve ever seen I think that he’s got

The most steals and most assists by far of any player that ever played basketball who is the dirtiest believe it or not John Stockton oh I believe it he’s like a Kon guy what are you talking about of course I believe man so dirty yeah like my first two years I’m like yo

This dude is just dirty player bro he just he’s just dirty like like he P he’ll pull you elbow you knee you like he’ do all of he did all of that the the short shorts were just a disguise to get your mind off of how dirty he was yeah

He was I was like oh my God I’m glad I didn’t play the 80s you this is this is this is not this not basketball right here John stocked him was probably the dude who humbled me it made me feel like damn dog do I know how to play

Basketball [ __ ] am I sorry dog like what the [ __ ] am I well you know had never been taking out the game so fast he had ripped me like twice you know I’m going for the outlet the wrong way boom still I get the loose ball oh he gone still

Take you under the P he walk you all the way down to the Wi he’ll walk you to the same spot whether you pressure him he knew what spot he was going to get to he was [ __ ] once he got to the spot that

He was going to get to when I play with yeah he could play yeah he could play he was damn near the best player out there every single possession um yeah he would play every Sunday Sunday Hoops um now he was yeah I mean he’s one of those guys

Like when you go and play with him he’s one of those guys like he doesn’t miss like mid-range jumpers and and it’s funny because when he plays he plays all all once there’s no like threes are one twos are one layups are one know he’s

Old school right he he plays all at once so um but he’s one of those guys it’s like you know where he’s going to pass and he’s still going to like you know the pass is going to the left like you’re trying to play it and like read

It and it’s he’s still going to make the play and the guy’s going to get a layup he’s just so good with the ball so good with his eyes um he’s so strong so strong setting screens on the ball you know you can’t bump him off the ball but

No he’s he’s a competitor loves to play done Stockton would do me like that all the time and I know what that meant slow down so and he did it so many times so subtle that people never ever ever have commented on it and the times he didn’t

I would run over somebody get a charge or whatever but that’s what’s neat be able to play with somebody that you know put the time in beforehand and my trust with John was my life with my life I trust you with my life out here and I believed everything

You told me coach long did we bump head sometime well of course because it’s a lot of testosterone going on and alpha males in the room hell yeah you ping but the neat thing about it was we always made it right car 50t of the base yes stock in the B stocking D

Hang it up it’s good that’s the I always tell everybody man people always ask me who was the toughest player that I played against and I always say John stockt and they say why I don’t get that why not Michael Jordan I would always tell him a guy who only

Plays 32 minutes or 33 minutes which uh Jerry Sloan had in his rotation when a guy who gets on the floor who only shoots the ball 10 times makes eight have 16 assists fool around and have six or seven rebounds and four or five Steals and you look at his stat

And you say h what did he have 24 16 7 and four how can you beat that St fires down on the L short for 10 seconds he fires the to their hope and the Ser is when you played against him you had to outthink him it’s like chess playing

Against him you know it wasn’t like you going out there who going to be the quickest no this is chess this is a long 48 minute game that you had to think about every move every possession you had to make Ste there it is stock stole

The ball stock and stole the ball he’s the alltime leader in the history of the game what a player they’re on their feet in celebration for John Stockon I’ve always said I think John Stockton is the perfect point guard St right side stock down the middle underneath the

Ball oh baby what a play by St his sense of where he was on the floor his his peripheral vision it’s like watching an artist work John Stockton you’d say how did he see him huh oh he’s over there boom he throws the pass over there what a pass John

St he’s one of the few guys could pass a basketball where players wanted it to me is phenomenal the you know the one thing that’s always mindboggling to me is that I have a feeling that there are many people who still under raid John Stockton and I don’t know if it is

Because he didn’t win a championship or because he wasn’t a flashy or what it is but there are still so many people out there who still say oh he was just good because of car Malone or um he was not one of the greatest point guards of all

Time he’s so far uh inferior to Magic Johnson and to isah Thomas and to me I think if he would have played with a Lakers team like the showtime Lakers in the 1980s he definitely would have won an NBA championship and I also believe that he was I don’t want to say it

Because it will get some Bastion but to me I think he’s almost on the same level as Isaiah Thomas I mean it’s like this close in my opinion but this the time for you guys to give me your opinion let me know in the comments below how great

Was John Stockton in his prime throughout his entire career thanks for watching and hopefully you’ll see you next time on the basketball time machine

  1. The only reason magic gets the unanimous vote is because hes 6'9. If it came down to who can run a TEAM better from the point guard position, it has to go to stockton. Steals, assists and game management, are really what make a point guard. He had it all.

  2. Great content as always! Stockton was a stone cold! It was great to watch Basketball back in the days! Miss those days!

  3. You couldnt just watch highlights or one or two games to understand how good Stockton was. To really understand him you have to watch a few games. He could have scored more, way more actually. But he was going to pick the other team apart. He knew knew what the other team was going to run probably better than they did. He would play chess with the other team. Oh you do this, Im going to do this. Harden does it with his man, same with Kyrie, but Stockton would do it with whole teams.

  4. He's not just a hardcase, he was a genius point guard. One of the greatest players to not win a Chamopnship

  5. I would put him at #1 for that pure, what it's meant to be, point guard. I really didn't like him growing up because I was a bulls fan. That guy was a killer. Nowadays he ranks as one of my very favorite players from the 80s and 90s.

  6. It wasn't just the assists and steals that made him great, he was also the clutch player for the Jazz. He didn't shoot as often but with the game on the line you wanted him taking the shot rather than Malone. Even Karl would probably admit that. It's fitting he was the one that hit that bomb of a last second three against the Rockets to send them to their first finals in 1997.

  7. John Stockton was a underrated player and he wuld give it to ya and I don't ever remember him being injured or missing a game he had durability and he bought it errtime he hit the floor

  8. Why some people say he wasn't athletic, I'll never understand. Now, Larry Bird, great as he was, was not athletic 🙂

  9. If he missed any games, it wasn't many. On the Dream Team, he could walk among regular people and not be mobbed by fans. If he missed any games, it wasn't many.

  10. probably the today don't know him but people who watched the NBA in the '80s and '90s are arguably the best PG of all time.

  11. In this video, Gilbert Arenas states that JS is the dirtiest player he ever played against. In another video I heard Steve Kerr refer to JS as "a dirty bastard!' Obviously, Gilbert's and Kerr's opinions are far more informed than mine, but I have watched a lot of basketball, and a lot of John Stockton, and I have to admit that I don't see it. He must have been a very stealthy, dirty player.

  12. Stockton was the best true point guard of all time, and the perfect one for Sloan's system. He was a general on the floor and as the video hit upon he didn't just pass people the ball he put it right where they wanted it. Any pure shooter dreams of having a pg that does that. His toughness and heart are unmatched. As for being "dirty" I prefer to say he knew how to get every edge he could. When you are shorter and slower than most of your competition you have to get an edge.

  13. He just ran into the 3 best defensive players at their position. One of them was the goat. Two times. Simple as that.

  14. Stock does not get his dues because he out fundamentally beat everyone his heart and determination. I get sick of hearing dirty if you can’t handle hard pick or screen then go home.

  15. He could have stopped playing 7 years earlier and still has the assists and steals records and in turn he'd have higher per game averages. Most underrated player the league has ever seen.

  16. Stockton is on my Top 5 starting lineup. So to me he was the greatest PG of all time. He did was everything every PG should be. Great on defense and played offense perfectly for that position.

  17. John Stockton combined so many aspects of basketball at a high level – John was an expert ball handler and dribbler, he was a great shooter, Stockton was a GREAT passer that leads the NBA in total assists for a career, and Stockton was a great defender that is the leader among all NBA in lifetime steals. Add in that Stockton played high IQ basketball and that he was so clutch and you have one of the greatest point guards and players of all-time. 💯

  18. Thanks for the great summary of Stockton. Surely, he ranks right up alongside Isaiah Thomas. Similar to Bird and Magic … they elevated each other's games to the elite status. John most definitely earned his reputation. Great champion.

  19. It’s weird seeing all the movement in 80’s & 90’s NBA. Now, they stand around, no one contests a dunk. Just watch Lebron. Defense just watches while they rest.
