Son Heung-min and star-studded South Korea arrive at AFC Asian Cup looking to end title drought

South Korea arrived in Qatar on Wednesday as the AFC Asian Cup gets set for its opening kickoff weekend on Friday.

The team had been in Abu Dhabi for its final preparations for the Asian championship.

When he took over the helm of South Korea, head coach Jurgen Klinsmann said winning the Asian Cup was his priority.

South Korea has not won the Asian Cup since 1960, but will be one of the favourites to lift the trophy in Qatar.

There is plenty of Europe-based firepower in Klinsmann’s squad, including Tottenham star and South Korea skipper Son Heung-min, Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Hwang Hee-chan and Lee Kang-in of Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern Munich centre back Kim Min-jae will anchor the defence.

The Taaeguk Warriors kick off their Group E campaign on January 15th against Bahrain, then face Jordan on the 20th followed by a final group fixture with Malaysia on January 25th.
