Our hype listeners uh to take advantage of their so let’s get right into it 2024 MLB tops Flagship design is revealed if you haven’t seen it go on uh toss’ uh Instagram their their ex uh you know collectibl Guru put it out there as well and um uh Cody initial thoughts
When you seen it what was your initial reactions of the new design my initial reaction was this is going to probably be divisive uh it’s something that I think there’s like a familiarity with every design and we were doing a little dissecting before we started recording
Here and you can see the 04 design here mostly the frame the Border uh 1974 feels very similar to that usually they go by big anniversaries I’d say 74 is the closest but there’s not really any design that this looks like it feels like a brand new take on on the flagship
Design uh way more flashy than we’re used to just the neon I I think I even said to you like if they came out with a set that was like Tops baseball Vegas that’s what it feels like and we would all be like that’s cool this is
Different but I think it being Flagship is going to get some I think it might get a little bit of a mixed reaction from folks I mean if I was going to put my Dan hat on there he would say that he loves that there’s four borders there so
Um I think that’s a plus for collectors that care about that um but yeah Vegas has actually been on my mind because I have been looking at prices for the Super Bowl knowing that you know when the ners are going to play there on February 11th you know I I’ll have it
Booked up so that’s like kind of what looked at like to me I don’t want to say like a bar neon sign that comes to mind I know we’re not going after that demographic necessarily it’s it could be for the kids too but I do kind of see
That in there um they didn’t take a lot of risks but yeah the neon sign I feel is is is the neon team name I should say is is somewhat new looks like there’s also a neon outline on the logo that lines into uh the player’s last name
Also a neon line that circles the position as well I think the plus here is we know EV car is going to be in there I think we already figured out Ellie De La Cruz is going to be in there La Cruz we’ve been speculating Jason Dominguez as well we didn’t see that
Design I do wonder do they leave him out until the it’ be kind of silly to leave him out because he debuted last year is he going to play it all next year halfway through the year he’s so maybe that’s the decision is series two or update right yeah they might wait till
Series two to give it a big push for somebody else to collect but the other thing that pops out to me is this is going to look great in Chrome yes this is going to really pop and chrome and maybe that’s something that we can keep in mind going forward is that they’re
Really keeping thinking about how will this look in the Chrome version because that’s when it’s all said and done that’s that’s the big that’s what we’re all waiting for when it comes to Tops baseball for me personally I know everyone’s still collecting and series

In New York and it’s basically a I think it was at the Nicks practice facility which is very similar to like a high school basketball court and they actually have it section they have the full court and it’s SE off into two stations obviously you can take more

Football in his hand and he advocated that he absolutely hated the photo uh terrible job they don’t know why he doesn’t know why they use the photo turns out it was at the combine um but for that one Kelsey was I don’t know what A fifth sixth rounder he
Was a late round pi he was not a rookie Premier guy not a rookie premere guy he did not go to the field and take photos of him in jerseys and stuff like that so uh and and being at the time tops is probably like well we got to put this
Guy in the set Getty what’s the cheapest photo you know and then then that’s what they use cuz they couldn’t use a I couldn’t use a Cincinnati Bearcats photo because they don’t have the license for the Collegiate at the time so interestingly enough that was like a
Terrible photo I think the Steph Curry rookie uh from Topps and tops Chrome versions of it is terrible because they were in the process of losing the license to Panini during that year and they for some reason could not have a photo shoot so they had to use a head
Shot and photo pH shop out whatever was on his shirt James Harden was that year as well um you could see those same photos so yeah I mean it’s it’s definitely odd I mean this guy obviously we knew he was going to be big unlike the Kelsey scenario uh don’t know why
They use that photo why they didn’t decide to photoshop it out but you know here we are uh probably won’t affect the value the black prism will still go for a lot yeah yeah exactly at the end of the day it’s it’s it ain’t going to
Change too much it just it just stinks that now you’re going on a second year of big rookies having less than appealing rookie cards here for the basketball collectors uh you know and hey they’re they’re basically doing like if you look at prism football it’s essentially the same thing it’s just a
It’s a nicer backdrop because you’re on a football field it’s outdoors but they’re it’s essentially the same idea they’re not doing they’re just taking the exact photo not doing anything with it and and just plas I mean being at the photo shoots they make them do the football moves quarterbacks are throwing
The ball you know running backs are running the ball you know try to get the receivers to catch the ball and uh you know other positions that are out there usually don’t have too many defensive players but if they do they’re having them do stuff as well so yeah I mean
We’ll see I mean see how how how these sales go for I think people are still going to go crazy I think this is coming out in the next few weeks so we’ll see the hobby version really exploding I yeah and it it will also be interesting
Because it feels like the last year for basketball has been kind of like you know failure to not want say Failure to Launch it’s been big rookies Pao was huge and now that chat’s playing at a high level that should improve last year’s product run but it has been it

X as well Twitter and um showcasing The Bowman Chrome uh dual Auto of himself and his son uh calling the origins of greatness so I mean this is just a start to what could be for LeBron you know I saw Brian Gray tweet out I want to get
