Chicken wing what causes it it’s not what you think chicken wing what causes it and how to fix it the causes are pretty straightforward and the Cure is actually pretty straightforward to all you got to do is remember this one thing it’s an origami golf rule your body will protect itself from
Injury the reason you chicken wing is because you’re about to injure this elbow and your body’s saying uh- uh uh uh I’m not going to let you do that here’s what’s happening when you chicken wing first let’s look at what the normal golf swing should look like
At least the arms in the golf swing just take your Club put it in front of you and just relax your arms and I want you to just turn your body back and forth don’t manipulate your arms just let it happen now look at what what your lead elbow is
Doing goes up comes down rotates open let’s try from this angle see that lead elbow comes down rotates up rotates rotates so what’s the problem your elbow’s not rotating if you try to swing the club like this and come down and don’t rotate That Elbow when this arm gets straight you’re
Hyperextending this elbow your body is not going to let you do that so what does it do to cure it every time it’s going to pull it up try it just stand up straight and I want you to do this little Exercise but don’t let your lead arm rotate notice in the ex when you you just do it naturally your lead arm automatically rotates see it automatically rotates rotates rotates automatically rotates there’s no hyperextending going on here what happens when I don’t let it rotate same movement it’s going to chicken wing every
Time I’m not consciously bending my elbow the only thing I’m thinking is don’t rotate that shoulder don’t rotate the elbow it’s my subconscious my body that’s chicken winging I’m not thinking oh I’m going to chicken wing I’m not trying to chicken wing the only thing I’m trying to do is come down
And keep that straight keep that elbow straight point it at the Target I come down and do that my body is yanking it up like that that’s why you chicken wing your body is trying to protect you from hyperextending that elbow so go look at your golf
Swing just slow motion it just do a little slow motion movement and see are you rotating that arm elbow or are you trying to keeping it straight if you’re keeping it straight it’s going to chicken wing every time and the Cure is simple The Cure is just go back and look
At this natural movement your arms make and what happens to your lead arm it rotates around it does your elbow does not stay pointed at the Target your arm does not stay locked out you just come down and rotate learn to do that and you’ll never chicken wing again
