Tailor Made qi1 series The Ultimate independent review right here so we’re going to take a look at the new qi1 tailor made product it’s a quest for inertia of 10,000 so 10,000 as a number is really about you maximizing inertia vertically and horizontally in terms of sort of front to back and and
Heal the toe across the head so the 10,000 number is 5,000 either way and that’s something that they’ve been looking at trying to do and most brands you you ping with their g430 Max you a lot of the brands are looking to increase inertia and moment of inertia
Which is resistance to twisting and resistance to defamation as much as possible so that’s what for those that are wondering what the QI stands for that is exactly what it stands for it is not a Chinese word it is not a you know anything else it’s it’s quest for inertia 10,000
So going to start off looking at drivers so what have tailor May changed versus stealth and stealth to so one of the big issues for a lot of players in terms of with the stealth 2 was you the face uh and some of that durability to the face
One of the things that has changed is the frame has changed they’ve changed the structure gone a little bit lighter which has allowed them to have a little bit more surface area as we understand to get a better bond between the face and the frame that increases durability
That also increases it reduces a bit of weight allows them to move weight around um you put it in discretionary place in the head improve the bond now that bond is really really a key thing because that’s where any fail is tended to be on the perimeter of the face that’s
Something that we’ve seen probably the only kind of real kind of Achilles heel to that face so far and they have re-engineered the uh the carbon face so it’s still the same 60x 60 layer carbon face using twist faces again these are these bits of techer in all three models
We’ll go onto anything that is individual to each model shortly um but very slightly re-engineered face as you go on midnight blue um and what they’ve done is they’ve kept the twist face in there so what twist face is it’s a way of keeping the toe a little bit more
Round a little bit more open so that on a toe strike it doesn’t overgear and hook too much and onto the heel side um you reduce a little bit of Loft and you take the heel in a little bit so again reducing the left to right spin but
Trying to reduce a bit of Back Spin as well because you know a heel strike produces higher Spin and more left to right bias a tow strike more right to left bias as a right hand player and a higher launch so trying to and lower spin sorry um so they’re trying to
Minimize the effects with the twist face and that’s something that develops all the way through all the products something they’ve been using a little while now since M4 M3 M4 products um so that’s been re-engineered what they’ve done on each of them as well they’ they’ve lased in into the face itself
They’ve got a an alignment line so what that does is gives a bit of clarity to the top of the face um I hope my hand’s not in the way from that image um so when looking down at where we’ve now lost that heavy contrast between the face and the frame and that
Top Line used to be able to see really clearly in order from an alignment point of view they a bit like they used to do on the fairways where they didn’t have the carbon face they put that white line at the top gives a contrast and gives
You something to aim from so that’s something they’ve learned from the fairies and bought into the driver so specifically now moving into each different model so that the standard vertical a standard Qi 10 oh one of the other elements they put into all the models sorry a major part of
This is an Infinity Crown so it’s a composite Crown 97% of the crown is now composite so that pretty much the whole entire frame that you’re looking at is all composite what that does is it reduces a little bit of weight again allows them to move that sort of
Perimeter of the head with as much you know stability as possible but any of that weight saving allows them to position the weight to optimize spin you low spin on the ls model you know and weit back and maximum forgiveness for the max Each of which will come on to
Very shortly so now to jump back going on to each individual model um the standard model qi1 I really you know this model’s always been a very successful head for them in that you know tailor made have always been a low spin head and this is certainly no
Different um and really you what they’re saying with this head is this is this is aimed at a kind of moderate to higher speed swing and optimizing distance and low spin SL stability so uh it’s not going to be quite as low spin as the ls um but really what they’ve done is
They’ve moved weight a little bit further back um they’ve kept if I can don’t know how the angle show but they’ve kept that channel uh in terms of the aerodynamics through the sole uh and if I move to the max just to show the different positioning the max which is this head
Has it more in the more in the heel side so you can see the different positioning of the weighting and and how what they’re trying to do with that I can I come on to the max is really how the head is working through but positioning the aerodynamics and the weight to
Optimize either face squaring or stability so really very traditional shape as far as tailor made of G it’s it’s a very neutral neutral looking head um one thing that we have noticed if I hold this up here is that the sole the sole has a little bit of an
Uplift into the back now that’s partly aerodynamics partly CG positioning what it does mean is that when this head rests on the ground it may want to sit just onto the back and sit a little a little bit open so it might be something that you find you this head Works
Particularly well visually for people by using a lower Loft and lofting that up because by lofting it up what you’re doing is you’re lowering the back so it might seat slightly better for some play who don’t want to see the face open using a lower Loft and lofting it up um
But that’s something that Taylor Made have done historically you the M4 that I used for years had a very very aggressively cambered Sole and so they can want to sit on its hes a little bit from a performance point of view I’m going to hit a couple with this then
Move on to the next model beting to see where this comes out so traditionally being yeah I think all the changes they tried this year have been to retain ball speed across the face improve consistency of ball speed across the face I think relative to stealth 2 there was a little
Bit more of a drop off into the heel side than they would have wanted and that’s something we certainly noticed in the fitting Bay throughout the year um very very clean set up that that line on the top of the face definitely gives you some clarity as to where that face is
Face is aimed so that distinctive note from the composite face so that one for me was a little bit on the inside um and when I get it onto the heel side I’d expect the spinder pop quite a bit what’s noticeable there it stayed in the 2000s which is
Good see if I can find the middle so more solid yeah you can see we I’ll do one more with that yeah so very is actually a very stable feeling head um quite often heel and to side I can feel a little bit of deflection a little bit
Of vibration from the head but actually not an awful lot with this so actually some of these strikes are quite good to see what they do that was a little lower on the face again spin stayed nice and stable so you can see when you get the strike in the right
Place like the second shot the spin really comes down um it’s not a massively High launching hit that’s one thing I would say with it I’ve always hit the ball quite High um from a base launch angle point of view but the launch angle stays really quite strong
So certainly something where you might find yourself lofting up a little bit on this head just to get the peak height partly the spin but partly the base launch seems to be fairly strong definitely a very stable feeling head overall so I think from that point of view that’s definitely an improvement
Versus a stealth to too so moving on we’ll keep the shaft the same on this going to move on to the max so one of the things with the max head is it’s a slightly bigger frame um it’s no bigger on CC but actually what they’ve done is they’ve made it a
Slightly bigger deeper footprint how they managed to do that is there’s a small rim on the inside here so they’ve managed to make the head bigger in terms of foot see whether that actually shows there they to make the head visually bigger from above but by not filling out
The hole back they’ve kept the cc’s to the legal limit so uh what that also has helped them to do is because the composite that makes up the so is that much lighter than the frame the frame moving slightly further back actually moves the center of gravity slightly
Further back from the face that again creates the the high inertia that 10,000 inertia that the max is is designed for your maximum forgiveness but also just to help to Square the face a little bit more that weight being slightly on the heel side that doesn’t quite slow the
Heel down but allows the toe to accelerate a little bit faster which is what helps that face squaring uh and so weight to the heel side but that that movement of weight around the mass they’ve got a weight right into the heel side on the inside of the head too again
Everything designed to help get that face squaring and it’s not it’s not necessarily designed around High launch um which as we come into some of the other products that that is more of the case in the driver it’s about squaring the face up outside of that there’s not
A massive amount of difference although there’s structurally quite a difference to the actual design of the head um the base principles are a lot of consistency principles all the way through so be interesting with this to see where that launch and spin sit relative to the standard
Head so this is the same Loft going to use the 9° head on all three drivers here so yeah and this most certainly sits a little bit more towed in so it’s been engineered flat as sole so it sits on the back Edge unlike the standard where
I say it’s raised up a little bit but is certainly engineered with a slightly closed face so that also Again part of that to help help not hit the ball to the right so can certainly feel the toe come through a little bit more there and you definitely a little bit more
Flight feel that picks the ball up a bit more easily yeah noticeably higher launch uh now slightly higher up the face as well but that’s really picked picked launch angle up a little bit more than the standard model so certainly something if you’re looking for a little bit more
Flight um but definitely a little less left left to right bar so got that turning over a little bit more but can certainly see the spin sits few hundred revs higher than the standard model so that’s something part of the compromise one a better phrase of
Going more draw bu is that the spin is not going to be as low just because of that weight positioning being a little less efficient for Back Spin however again very very stable feeling head you know there’s certainly you very very little deflection vibration impact so those two models in particular I think
Going to be very successful from a you know a solidity a feeli point of view so now going to move on to the ls so this is quite a different structure um you know the sole profile itself you can see with the weight in the sole there very
Very different so they’ve retained that 18 gam sole weight but they made it go slightly underneath the sole so rather than rather than the slot going all the way across that being covered up just helps a little bit in terms of aerodynamics and and not that you want
Turf interaction with the driver um but sliding underneath just means it’s a little bit cleaner um certainly from a let’s say aerodynamics in particular that heel side there that’s where most of the air flow is going to come so not having a Channel all the way through
Into the heel definitely helps a little bit with that uh and this one really engineered with that low low Center gravity low and forward to get low spin you really engineed towards the higher speed players looking to keep a bit of workability again weight forward helps just a little bit of shaping
Marginally but really designed to bring that that spin down so this should be a bit of a spin killer again with this what we’ll also see with this head again is that sole shape just going up a little bit into the back it’s a slightly shorter front
To back distance as well again getting that Center gravity getting a little bit in the AA of the face to bring the spin down so much much more traditional vertical traditional shaping um you very very Square Face a little more compact shape noticeably get a little lower on
The face but noticeably lower launch so low strike just meaning a little bit I’ll pull that t of fraction a little bit of a higher spin on that particular shot but you can really feel that one to knock the flight down and forwards see with that yeah so slightly
High on the face slightly should have left te where it was uh and that spin’s gone through the floor so I think this is going to be something where strike point is going to be really Critical with this head but that’s really taking spin down okay very solid feeling head but in a
Different way this one with the other two heads you could really feel that stability across the face this one you know exactly where you’ve hit it you’ll feel a little bit more deflection and vibration but yeah this one I got a bit of launch on it but the spins now couple
Hundred revs lower but you’ve got that very low spin one in there if you really need it so certainly this one I think is going to optimize the someone’s speed gets higher and higher this one’s really where you can use this to dial down that spin dial down that flight make sure the
Ball keeps on going forwards not going to be the most forgiving beast in the world but there are going to be players who really benefit from that low spin of this so the ls is in 8 degree in right hand only and then 9 and 10 and a half in right and left
Hand the uh standard for a bit of phrase N9 and 10 and a half in both right and left-handed and 12 in right-handed only and then the max is 9 10 and 1 half and 12° I believe all in right and left-handed on that one so you know a
Little bit more Loft available in the Max and then that that 8 degree in that LS is going to be super super low spin but certainly from a general Performance Point of View and stability you know a move forward from stealth 2 I think there definitely been lessons learns from that product and
Some improvements in terms of the frame of the head where the weight sat and just generally a bit of a bit more of an all round performance so uh you know watch out for those those I think should do well this year so going to move into the fairways
Now so we have the same three heads in that you got the ls or the tour tour as they’re calling rather than LS with that that movable weight in the bottom uh you’ve got the the standard Q 10 and then the uh the 10 Max now even
Without them start side by side uh I think if I hold the tall and the max next to one another what will be really noticeable is the size of the head the max is a far bigger head and that’s something that that progression in size is something that is
Really designed to help with the stability across the face help with a bit of launch um but forgiveness forgiveness and flight you know that development through the three heads has really been a big Focus this year um again they’ve got the uh the carbon Crown across all three models uh that’s
Something again to optimize of gravity give as get as much weight moved away from the top and into the bottom of the head as possible um there’s a progression in face height so going to hold the Max and the T next to one another see the T this side is a deep
Ahead smaller head and this is a shallower head but bigger front to back so again getting the weight positioned to optimize flight for each particular model so there’s as per the driver on all models there’s the the laser line at the top of the face this is something that’s
Carried over from stealth 2 again from an alignment point of view to be able to pick the top of the head um where the black face and the Black Crown all blend into one another that gives you something to visualize and align with um we’ve got twist face as per the drivers
We’ve got the twist face incorporated into the fairways and the hybrids um there isn’t the composite face the carbon face on any of the phas a hybrid simply because there’s not enough surface area there to save enough weight to make it worthwhile you need the face
Size of the driver you can see with the scale of differences there in order to save enough weight to make that currently to make that worthwhile so that’s that’s not something they’ve incorporated into Fairway woods yet um the Fairway Woods all have the through slot in the face um actually that’s a
That’s something I missed off the driver um the drivers all have this as well um and what this does is this keeps a bit of face flexion at the bottom optimizes ball speed low on the face so that’s something that’s continued through from original RBZ many many years ago that’s
Something that they’ve retained and keep using because it’s such a good technology there so in the qi1 and the max there is the V steel sole um this doesn’t necessarily apply on the tour because of that weight um so it stops it being officially V steel however there are
Still elements that that go into this and part of that is how that sole plate sits uh optimizes Turf interaction uh gives a bit more versatility get some weight down the bottom as well so what I’m going to do with each of these so the the Max and the qi1 are
Actually a fixed huzzle um and part of that fixed huzzle in the carbon Crown helps to save a bit of weight to put lower down however we have the U the samples from our rep and these are the fitting heads that they use so these two have an interchangeable huzzle but the
Actual production heads are glued in the 10 and the 10 Max the tour has the adjustable sleeve just to help D up and down Loft and face angles um so that’s why this one has a sleeve and the production ones don’t um so I’m going to dial these into the same Loft same
Stated Loft by using these sleeves just so we can really kind of compare the ball flights um but essentially you through all models it’s taking weight out the crown putting it lower down the face uh as much as possible to optimize forgiveness launch triangle and spin
Rates so I will as per the drivers label each of the uh each of the heads just so we can compare data afterwards so it’s I would say it’s not the smallest head it’s a midsize head so we’re at um 190cc on the qi1 the 3-wood
200 on the Max and 175 on the tour so you know not not small heads um that 10 C’s in the match really does make a does make a difference but there’s plenty of Club heads to look at and I think that’s something that that should appeal to a
Number of players you can you can really see the face as well with that line on the top so Fairway would in an area that tailor mate have always been very strong um you going back a number of years the the spin the spin strength and performance has been very very good from
A distance point of view and that’s really where all of these are really designed to get the center gravity low optimize launch depending on how shallow they’ve made the made the Crown but to bring that spin down to get maximum distance and then as the heads get
Bigger they get more forgiving so you know this one considering up so these are all at sort of 16 Dees where I’m getting the actual stated LOF too this really picks the ball up well off the turf I think um for a head that’s still a relatively deep face
Actually whilst it’s got a very light crown that moves the center gravity down for a relatively deep face it’s still picked it up well well and that’s where that that Heavy Soul helps into that and considering again I’ve always launched the ball and spun at a relatively
Relatively high amount you know to Loft Fairway we up and still get three and a half thousand revs on spin that’s a really nice sort of it’s not a stupidly low spin um but it’s a strong flly and I think again this is a this is a club
Head where you tailor made have always majored on ball speed and distance and I think this is certainly going to be a very very strong head for them this year um you just the stability again AC cross the face that’s what’s notable for these heads you can really feel the head
Staying with you through contact uh and you a good ball speed and a nice amount of launch compared to where that loft is so going to move into the max now this is a shallower face shallower and and bigger and longer basically bringing weight down and low so this one’s
Designed yes a little bit to to lose a bit of the fade bar shot but really designed to pick the ball up so the base loft is a degree higher than the standard qi1 so that’s really designed to maximize is get get the flight up get
The carry up so what we’ll be able to see if I log this in is where that spin and launch difference are compared to the standard model uh it’s some of the size of it is really there to give as much confidence as possible stood over the ball you know
A lot of players you know now own some of some of the head sizes compared to years back and Fairway WS are almost the same size as old drivers and particularly this one but that size of to give you some confidence there’s something there to hit with
So and it does sit down nicely to the back of the ball as well so it feels like it seats behind the ball cleanly and again so that’s that’s more launch right considering these are same stated LOF that’s a degree more launch um so maybe a little bit less for me a
Little less ball speed and some of that’s going to be where the head design will suit the stronger swings potentially with the slightly more compact head but but to pick that up it’s not spun too much as well still only just over 3,000 on spin but definitely a bit more
Launch little lower on the face but again so launch angle down a bit spin up a little bit but for a for a strike that’s a little bit low on the face that’s kept a decent amount of launch angle so a lot of forgiveness off this
Head yeah and again that one little B the smoother swing that’s really picked the launch angle up again 142,000 so 145,000 142° so that one a little bit lower spin so interesting enough for this head I think through a we test with various players uh in the
Bay I think the where the spin rate sit to be quite an interesting one but are absolutely seeing a higher launch angle than the qi1 so getting that launch angle up to maximize carry distance and ease a flight that’s certainly doing that for tailor
Maid so now we go on to the the the Tor head um so you this one you a little bit more compact has the ability to move the that sliding weight in the bottom forward and back weight forward brings the CG towards the face brings spin down
Weight back drags it back a little bit and helps add and keep a little bit of spin I’m going to leave this currently on it its neutral position um because that that helps is really there to help dial in the spin of the launch angle a
Little but you’ll get a hair more launch of the weight back and a little bit less of the weight forward this is very much back to that slightly deeper deeper face slightly more compact head um really gained at the higher speed player this is really about bringing flight down and
Forwards workability but strength of flight again lighter Crown as with all the composite Crown to save weight here move it down bit of Versatility bit of extra forgiveness uh this has never been their most forgiving head in the world because it’s really geared towards that low spin element and the moment you do
That and pull weight forward you lose forgiveness um but they tried to get as much of that as possible with this head by putting that CG lower in the head so we’ll see where this spin goes to now so as with the other two heads this has been lofted to
16 but yeah very very classic head shape all all these actually they seat nicely um and by that I mean they kind of find their grounding nicely something that that um you know any of the heads with a flatter sole you put them down they they find their Center nicely so you’re not
Having to find the face position at at a dress the club sits really cleanly behind the ball got a little deep on that one slightly heavier head than the other two so so we can get a cleaner strike certainly suits are slightly more squee squeezed impact again very very different feel
Off this one very different sound um you know a little bit lower on the face and that’s only 3,000 on spin again bear in mind I’ve lofted this up a little bit so let’s see if I can get a slightly cleaner hit out of this okay got a bit of launch on
That but you there goes the spin so you know launch wise I managed to gain a little bit of launch angle there that that’s one of the things that this head’s really going to do very very successful and bear in mind that’s not even with the weight forward you know at
2 and a half th000 revs on spin this is going to be an absolute you bomber for those who spin it a lot because of the the the um sleeve position you can set it upright and can maybe get that toe turning in a little bit um if you’re
Someone who has a bit of a a weaker higher spin a weaker left to right but the head itself isn’t trying to lose the right hand shot it’s definitely not a draw ass head so certainly geared at the higher launching higher spinning higher speed player who’s looking to really
Draw that ball forward and get it get it going down take spin-off um again solid feeling head notably not as forgiving as the other two but that’s not that’s not the M of this head this is really about stronger flight and again very very clean looks I think uh you know that the
Consistency and as we go through fitting seeing how strike point affects that spin rate I think on the on the ls models I think that’s going to be a critical thing as we go through the year so finally we’re looking at the wood end of the QI series we’ve got the
Hybrids so the three heads are the qi1 tour the ver standard and as with the fa this one is a fitting head so it’s got the adjustable huzzle on the production one will be glued uh and then we’ve got the max here so the same series of heads going through uh going through
Each of the models like the other heads actually the the qi1 and the max both have that same composite Crown lighter Crown getting white lower in the head exactly the same principles as the Fairway would keeping Center gravity low launch up but maximizing distance now the max is
Designed around a little bit more flight so that’s got one degree more of Loft uh just to help get that launch angle up it’s a slight L bigger head shape as well but also with a slightly lighter stock shaft again to get you get as much
Speed as possible get as much flight as possible I’m going to start with the the qi1 tour in terms of going into the individual Dynamics um they’ve each got that through slot like uh in the bottom like the Fairway with in the driver again maximizing ball speed low on the
Face this one’s very much designed to be more of a progression off the irons the sole shape is is designed to interact with the turf more like an iron than a wood certainly that’s the angle they’ve taken with it um you know historically this head’s been very much more for an an
Iron player wanting a hybrid again keeping the launch angle down a little bit keeping the head profile a little bit more compact um it just has a more of a natural progression off the arms even to the point where the uh the visuals on the crown that bit the front
Part being a slightly different shade just focuses on that front part has almost a sort of slightly more iron like visual at a dress um very much designed to be workable good ball speed but more workable and more of a kind of a low to mid spin
So as with the other clubs we’ll uh go into here these are all 22 22 in the qi1 and the tour uh 23 in the max because that’s the representative Club so this again this is this is very much a head wear it’s it’s wanting you
To play it more like an Anon certainly geared more towards an iron player not looking for necessary maximum forgiveness but maximum flight control so actually yes it’s got a a little bit slightly higher Loft rather than the 19 half that sometimes I use for these demos there’s plenty of launch
Angle there uh really kicking it up in the air so it’s not a crazy low launching head more of a mid launch uh but relative relative to The Loft it’s at so bear in mind this is similar similar to L to my 4arm this is the four hybrid um 37 on
Spin isn’t that high so and this is really something again just to bring that flight down make it more forwards not necessar someone looking to maximize trajectory but about getting the getting the the spin profile like they F down forwards a little bit more very much looking to control flight control
Trajectory not to max out necessary distance although it will still be quite strong because of where that spin is but looking to get that flat under control as much as possible very similar head shape to stealth 2 plus um lost the muing on the top of the crown it’s
Slightly cleaner look in that respect as well but it’s it’s not for someone looking to have maximum yardage out of it but more of a bridging point from the IRS up towards your Fairway woods so I’ll swap the standard qi1 onto this now so this one very very much along the lines of
The traditional tailor made rescue shapes more of a a midsize head slightly more woodlike profile if I have the two side by side there see the size difference of them much more of a wood like hybrid um this one’s got the composite Crown there is some composite in the top of the tour
However it’s it’s not as much they’re trying to maximize the amount of composite in the crown here to get that center of gravity low that helps a bit of Versatility out of different lies gets the clet in gets the center mass of the head into the bottom of the ball to
Pick the flight up um but that also helps some optimize spin out of it as well so these are traditional been quite a strong strong head for spin uh like I said earlier this one is the fitting head as a sample that we’ve been given which um hence he got the
Interchangeable huzzle in the production one it’s like the max that I’ve got here it’s the bonded huzzle um so that really you know the crown and the and the neita huzzle shape is really to optimize how much weight they can save there to put in different bits of the head um you
Same elements in terms of turf interaction was kind of a v steel like so it isn’t V steel um strictly speaking but they’re using some of that influence to affect Turf interaction make it as consistent as possible so we’ll see where this Compares from a flight point of
View and this is such a classic head tailor made head shape something that we’ve all seen so many times over the years that’s just such an easy head to hit um you know just that feeling of speed and explosion off the face um you know that that definitely you know
Whereas the Tor head you’ve got to get the mass into the bottom of the ball and almost squeeze it a bit more this you can just collect off the turf you very very very well balanced as a head just got underneath that a little bit but there’s absolutely no issues
Getting the launch angle onto this head uh I think this is a head that they’ve always been very successful with I’ll do one more to get a cleaner hit but um yeah I think much like the drivers it’s that feeling of balance across the face
Of stability of you’ve got a lot of Club Pace to hit with and the consistency on spin to the first and third shots there we’re looking in a matter of 100 revolutions or so so that’s one of the elements where they’ve managed to improve a bit of consistency across the
Face on this I think think on all the Tour series Heads tour and the ls a bit of a tow strike you’re going to see the spin knuckle off a little bit but actually for this head consistency of ball spin there’s there’s one yard difference between the first and third
Hits there so again upper mid- launch certainly mid- launch but again relative to Loft not a vast amount of spin but that’s Classic Tailor Made In This respect mid launch and then go really very very easy head to hit though so then we move on to the max so
Slightly bigger footprint again same pinch principles in terms of light crown light huzzle put weight low low and deep in the head to get that flight up but this one is designed for a little bit more launch we’ve got an extra extra degree of Loft a very slightly very slightly shallower face
The max is this one here so again everything geared towards getting the club into the bottom of the ball and getting that flight up part of it also is them utilizing slightly lighter shafts to help optimize Club speed in theory lighter sha helps to get a little bit more kick get the
Head through get the ball up in the air slightly faster as well so but actually headwise it’s not I would say obviously that different in terms of you footprint to the standard qi1 which I think is quite a nice thing it’s it’s not shouting that it’s the high launch head you can maybe
See a little bit more of the face yeah so for me again maybe a little bit behind the ball again there but that’s that’s uh that’s just going straight up in the air if I get one a little cleaner hit it’s just where the lighter shaft I’ve got to get used
To yeah so that’s I’m exaggerating my swings exaggerated that a little bit if I can get one neutral one here but that’s very very easy to flight that’s more neutral hit so proportionate to the one de difference on the loft of the standard head we’ve
Now got a degreee and a half 2 degrees of launch angle the spin is higher but that is a good thing with this head so one of the things about getting that Max maximizing the carry and the flight and the height that you can see is without
The spin it’s trying to flatten the top so from a raw distance point of view you we might see that the the qi1 head a little bit longer simply because it’s got less spin on however for anyone who hits a lower ball this head will most likely carry a bit further certainly if
You’re trying to replace you know a a longer ir and you’re looking to get flight and control into a green then you know the max is potentially a very very good option for that to see on those you know that hit best part of a thousand revolutions difference on spin for one
Degree of Loft that’s a very very different ahead so which is refreshing to see because too often there hasn’t been enough difference from the spin point of view but that is ahead very very good and and to gain that thousand reps of spin um you know that’s a real help
Overall to go into the head options on this I’ll go back to the fairwoods cuz I missed those Fairway wwise the tour is in a three and a five in both left and right-handed the ls um the standard qi1 is in a three 3hl 5 7 and nine but the
3hl and the nine are right hand only the others are both right and left-handed uh the max is in a 35 and a seven wood both right and left-handed and then into the into the rescues the tour is right-handed only in 17 and then goes 19
And a half 22 uh the qi1 goes uh 19 22 25 uh 29 and 33 with 29 and 33 being right hand only and then the the max is 20 23 27 31 and 35 with the 31 and the 35 being right hand only so actually plenty of options there and they
Particularly going into the higher Lofts to mitigate for some of the you six and seven ons some of those Lofts some of the six iron lofts are down at 24 so you can see where you know the four hybrid in the max is it as you’ll see in the hosle
Here is at 23 which is one degree off six IR Loft in some models so you really something to be very careful with when you’re looking at combinations of Loft and head style to make sure that you you pick the right ones so you don’t don’t have crossover and an iron low lower
Loft than a hybrid because that’ll be absolutely useless um but I think as as far as as ranges go certainly you know T very rarely have you know two models where they aren’t massively successful um I think this is certainly a step forward from stealth 2 really looking
Forward to getting them in the fitting Bay and getting them in different swings and and players hands and see how the different head Styles react different strike points different swing Styles but I think there’s a really good range across the board there to suit different impact positions different flight
Profiles uh so look forward to getting those into the bay in early early January probably when this video launches we should have them in shortly thereafter and I think Taylor Made will have a better year this year than last

So TaylorMade say the new face secures better to the head, an acknowledgment of a design fault in the Stealth? Seems like in light of all the faces falling off the Stealth. MOI at 10,000 in the max, Stealth max was 8500, and that’s the MOI of the LS version in the Qi10. All of this renders the Stealth well and truly redundant, resale value? Suspect it will drop like a stone and all the residual stock in retailers, good luck with that. The obsession with annual release rather than bi annual, means redesign for redesigns sake, this might be the first real improvement since the SIM. Lots of Stealth owners feeling conned…..
best review . thanks
Great review Simon. If I'm recalling correctly, in Rick Shiels review he's swinging similar club/ball speed to you but his carry is measuring 20 yards further! I.e. 106-8mph club = 280-285 carry. Your numbers seem more aligned to what I'd expect speed vs distance wise so seems a big difference. Or is this just different Trackman vs Quad measurements/calculations?
Great review very informative
Will you be doing a review on the new pxg black ops woods?
Hi, I’m a moderate swing player looking at the standard and Max drivers but who doesn’t have the distance to lose. Did you notice a significant drop in distance between the two and is there a value to setting a 9 degree standard driver at a higher loft in order to have the face a little more closed without losing distance?
Thanks in advance!
Best and most through review I’ve seen on these! Well done Simon!
interesting point you made at the end of the review, having the angles of the clubs similar, so could you do a video explaining (even as part of a fitting, even one of yourself) what club to pick, as if the angles can be replicated in wood/hybrid/iron, which one for what player, also for beginners it's quite confusing which to pick, esp. for a 'first bag' or if given second hand clubs, when you upgrade to 'second set', so a video on why the choice, and what is better, not just for "pro's", but higher shot golfers, so we can get the right clubs to keep us in the sport, not get frustrated that we don't improve.
Such a thorough review with a comprehensive explanation of all the information regarding this new range. Easy to follow and understand. Thanks once again.
I don’t think TM has made a decent driver since the original SIM, ironically that’s when KPS purchased TM from Adidas, they kept it for 4 years and sold it on to a Korean investment firm Centroid for $1.7BN a massive profit. Common denominator between KPS and Centroid is they are profit incentivised and short term profit at that. So the annual release policy suits the short termism and asset stripping works by reducing quality R&D. Net result, you get the truly dreadful Stealth, Qi10 yet to be assessed, albeit that the LS version is Stealth in wolfs clothing. TM are now so bad that their playing staff struggle to use the equipment, if Rory can’t use the equipment with any consistency, what chance do we have
Simon, do you guys use those adjustable fairway/hybrid heads in the studio throughout the year, or go to the real heads with your fitting adaptors? Presumably easier to match the fitted specs to built specs when using the real heads?
