TAYLOR DECKER ILLEGAL TOUCHING??: Breaking Down the Ending of Detroit Lions vs Dallas Cowboys

TAYLOR DECKER ILLEGAL TOUCHING??: Breaking Down the Ending of Detroit Lions vs Dallas Cowboys

So we’ve got a bit of a controversial ending to the Dallas Cowboys versus Detroit Lions after some terrible clock management by the Dallas Cowboys the Lions had a chance to go downfield and score a potentially game tying or game-winning touchdown depending on what they wanted to do on the pat they

Decided to go for two here to win the game you know Dan Campbell is going to be aggressive and they’re going to try a trick play here where they’re going to throw the ball to the left tackle Taylor Decker off playay action the Lions also have another extra offensive lineman in

The game in Dan Skipper number 70 he’s right here and then the right tackle pan is actually way over here so it’s a very interesting formation by the Detroit Lions you’ll see that they’re going to fake it right here to David Montgomery and then throw it back of the end zone

To Taylor Decker for the potential go-ahead two-point conversion unfortunately a flag was thrown on the play and it was deemed to be legal touching on Taylor Decker because he did not report as an eligible receiver or at least it appeared that he didn’t well he didn’t but Dan Skipper did when he came

On the field you’ll see right here I guess the Lions might have thought that um Decker would have been um an eligible receiver but just because of the alignment but even then I believe he has to report you’ll see right there that Decker number 68 along with pan the

Right tackle the one in the long sleeves they’re both talking to Brad Allen and I think they’re asking him if they have to report as an eligible receiver and Allen says they’re good it seems because they take their position and ultimately they end up

Throwing a flag on it so at the end of the day it’s just poor situational awareness by the Detroit Lions a bad play all the way around right there and it ended up costing the Detroit Lions the game basically because they ended up trying to go for it again from the seven

Yd line Dallas jumped off sides they went for it once again from the two yd line Jared goff’s throw comes up just a little bit short in the flat and they lose the game a really tough rate a really tough way right there to lose the game for the Detroit Lions

  1. Longtime Lions fan here. The Lions didn't lose due to that 2 point call. So, yeah, it appears that the Refs blew it as not only did Decker say that he reported and Skipper said that he didn't, and the Refs say the opposite happened and that Skipper then was in illegal alignment, but Dan Campbell revealed that he had informed the Refs that IF they were to EVER go for 2 in that game that Decker would be reporting as eligible. But for me the problem is that in the first quarter when the Lions got near the goal line that they went for it instead of kicking a FG even though their drive pretty much had sputtered out. The next time they got down there they continually moved forward so going for it made sense, and they got it. But I've long said that if they're inside the 10 and moving to go for it but if they're basically sputtering, stagnant, or moving backwards to just kick it. Had they made a FG back then, they'd most likely have won as they'd have been up by 2 after the TD instead of being down by 1 and they'd just kick an XP to go up by 3 with only 23 seconds left for The Cowboys to do anything. The Refs appear to have screwed them at the end and lied about it, but going for the TD instead of the FG early on was the real cost to that game.

  2. Another OFFICAL mistake, clear as day the official assumed 70 reported when in fact 68 reported. When 68 reports that makes the formation legal so there is no penalty on the play and the Lions win.

  3. Before any confusion about eligible receivers…Is the formation correct? No, You must have 7 men on the line of scrimmage! Look at the formation…There are only 6. This is an illegal formation, therefore a penalty…Whatever happens after the snap does not count!!! The 2 wide receivers are off the ball and the slot receiver is off the ball as well putting him in the backfield, leaving 6 linemen on the line of scrimmage!!!What gets me about this is the guy doing the analysis…moves the mouse (arrow) all over the screen and never looks to see the obvious, that there isn't enough players on the line of scrimmage!!! Keep mentioning the controversy, it gets attention (hits), but you really need to know the rules!!!

  4. The Lions sent three separate linemen to the ref — it was a trick play to try to confuse the Cowboys and they ended up confusing the ref. Why did three linemen go run up to the ref? It was trickery and Lions screwed themselves.

  5. The requirement in football is that you must have 7 men on the line of scrimmage period! There are 6 down lineman (don't care about eligible/their names or numbers). Look at the picture…you see the 6 lineman down on the scrimmage line? that leaves 5 other players…none of the remaining players are on the line of scrimmage! It is also called 5 men in the backfield…that's a penalty!!! HELLO! Both wide receivers are clearly off the line, the slot receiver/flanker is backed up off the line, then you have the QB & RB also behind the line…that's 5 men in the backfield & 6 men on the line of scrimmage PENALTY! There was no further shifting before the center hiked the ball. There are actually 4 penalties on this play by the Lions… They are:
    (1) 3 Lions ran into the end zone…the receiver on the left, the tackle on the left and the tackle on the right. 2 tackles can not be eligible on the same play.
    (2) Illegal touching by the left tackle on the left, as the tackle on the right reported eligible.
    (3) Illegal formation for having 5 men in the backfield.
    (4) Illegible man down field, as both tackles ran into the end zone on the same pass play. One of them is not eligible.
You can blame the referees if you like, but I'd blame the Lions and their Coach for not understanding the circumstances!!

  6. I scrolled down to just wanna watch the 2 point play without advertisements just to see 2 ads. What's the point of bypassing the NFL and ESPN videos?

  7. Won't matter in the end, Detroit will go farther than Dallas in the playoffs–Dallas will do what they do best–lose in the first round. How many post season games has Dallas won in the last 25 yrs….one, maybe??

  8. Thank you, someone is finally calling what it's going to be. Either it's an illegal touch or an illegal formation. The receiver is completely off the line of scrimmage. The wide receiver should have been on the line. Also 68 can't report as being eligible and 70 reports as being eligible. This was completely on Detroit trying to run a dirty trick play.

  9. "It's poor situational awareness by the Detroit Lions" – The ref screws up and you're blaming the lions. LMFAO. C'mon man

  10. Here is the biggest issue for me.
    1. If you want 68 to report, why send 3 guys up to the ref.
    2. Ref clearly announce 70 was eligible.

At this point it’s a “he said she said” situation.
If, that’s a big if, 68 did declare himself eligible. Lions tried to pull some shenanigans and cause confusion and it backfired.

  11. Idk after watching some games I believe the nfl is run by the WWE. The winners are determined before the game starts. How can a team look like superbowl champs one week, worse than 5th graders the next.

  12. you got it all wrong man…head coach told refs about this play before the game. skipper was pretending to report. decker did report. refs lying. read the news….or update your vids. but this is false info

  13. The referee in as blind as a bat or in on the rigging, cause Decker was sent over to this ref to report as eligible, everybody saw it but the Cowboy fans, they will take this loss as a win, with the help of the referees and the NFL.

  14. Dan Skipper can not be a receiver because he is covered by a ineligible number player. the last man on the line must be an eligible player by number or declared eligible by the ref. Nor can you can you have two eligible players on the line because the outside player covers the inside player. One of the eligible must move one yard off the ball ( the line of scrimmage.)

  15. 68 didn't know or was cheating cause he can't go out and catch the pass when he has another guy on the outside of him on the line so go learn the rules lion fans even if he did report it's illegal touching
