First of all I don’t think there’s enough patience in pretty much all the sports you you anything that that you’re trying to build in terms of a a a fr franchise an organization a team it’s going to take you 3 to 5 years to get that turnover to get the guys out that
You don’t want in there or that are whether it’s College they’re graduating or whether it’s the NFL in NBA Major League Baseball their contracts run out whatever the case may be it takes about three to five years to really gather the team that you want and you look at NFL
Coaches they get what three years Ron Rivera got four Arthur Smith got three you know you you’re you’re you’re going to if it’s not going in the right direction by the time you get to that three-year Mark the GM the owner they’re looking to move on from you and I think
Just patience is lacking in a lot of those instances people talk about Mike Tomlin he’s been there for 17 18 years and and has never had a losing season and there are fans that want to get rid of him they would be clamoring for a guy like that in Atlanta in Washington in
Some of these in in Tennessee in some of these cities the Raiders that there are so many organizations that struggle and have such high turnover for coaches that when you get one that you trust and knows how to work well with the GM build a roster can win even when they don’t
Have all of their best players because that’s a part of the development as well I think gms’s owners you have to hire people the flashy part is cool right the X’s and O’s the the coaches that can put up all of the numbers that’s perfect but
What can that guy do when it’s time to develop players for the next person when that person gets injured or when that person leaves in free agency or when you decide okay it’s time to trade this person move on you have to have coaches that are able to develop guys and build
A staff around them that are able to develop guys and allow them to be the best players that they can be it’s interesting I mean these teams are about to there’s a lot of these teams that as you just mentioned were in this coaching H in the in the coach coaching cycle
Yeah three four years ago and they will be in three or four years again because they just can’t they can’t get it right well they don’t have there’s it’s just not enough patience like if you you’re going to take it’s going to take some time for some players to develop into
The star players that they’re going to be everyone does not come out first second year and and there are they are the best players in the league like that those people are rare those are rare finds sometimes you have to nurture and develop that young player into being a
Great football player and you have to put them in situations that allow them to succeed because Justin Fields is a prime example I think he’s a very good quarterback in a very bad situation he’s had a lot of failure he hasn’t learned how to succeed because the team around him isn’t built for
Success so when you look at Justin Fields you say this is a terrible decision maybe or maybe if he played on a better team he would be a better quarterback you you it’s just about the the right environment and the right situation for every player and that
Comes from the ownership GM coach hiring the people that need to be hired and put in place you talk about patience too though how many times do you hire an offensive coordinator with no head coaching experience you’re not training him no he’s he’s baptism by fire and if
