Part of HSBC bwf world tour super 1,000 [Applause] a very good morning to you from quala lumur Malaysia we’re coming to you live from the axiata arena for the first Super 1000 Tournament of the year it’s the petronis Malaysia open 2024 which incidentally happens to be the seasoner opener as well the first of 31 tournaments on the HSBC bwf World
Tour it of course all culminates into that season ending HSBC BW WF World Tour finals and that is a trophy in front of you presented by Mr Vincent limb a council member of the badminton Association of Malaysia and that is a trophy that all the players the best
Players in the world will battle for in h Joo the top eight qualify for the season ending event but that’s all the way back in December we’re going to focus on the tournament at hand and that is the petronus Malaysia open it’s round one action that comes to you here on
Coure two eight matches all in all women’s doubles to get things started Yung and Yung of Hong Kong China taking on eer and loha of Germany that will be followed by another Asia Europe Clash the John fedan and Gloria Emanuel vaja of Indonesia going up against England’s Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith Men
Singles will follow and last year’s finalist Kai naroa the number two seed begins his campaign against French hopeful Christo poov we’ll have women singles after that and the number six seed from China herbing J goes up against Mia blickfeld and then more men singles to follow the world champion and the number
Five seed kavut V vidsan will begin his tournament against a resurgent Kent nishimoto that’s one to watch for but the highlight of the day has to be that doubles clash between former all England Champions viu and molana going up against Asian Games gold medalists churro Shetty and of course his partner
Satri caj rank ready number two seed Mor men’s doubles after that and Koga and of janic on the Eternal favorites Assan and saawan of Indonesia and we’ll close out the day’s proceedings with women’s singles and the number seven seed gregoria Marisa tundu takes on the Japanese youngster that’s Suki nadra in
The final match of the day that’s the action coming up here on court two lots to look forward to of course all lined up for your viewing pleasure but we’re going to turn our attention specifically at Women’s doubles and the first match of the day between Yung and Yung and eer
And loha and the winner there will go on to potentially face the number two seats be and Le SOI of Korea and potentially waiting in the quarterfinals are the likes of Lee and Leu of China and of course the Thai favorites karul and pongi but that’s a few more days to go
We’re going to focus on the match in hand and uh of course this is still first round action here at the petronus Malaysia open it’s two days of first round action we’re in day two before we progress to the next stages and uh Yung and Yung versus f and
Lwha this will be a second meeting between the two pairs with Yung and Yung having one the only meeting previously they’ll be looking to make it two in a row and that will certainly put them in a confident mood as they look to move deep into this tournament we’ve seen the officials come
On to court already uh in front of me and now we’re waiting for the players to get to the court and here they are so Yung and Yung against EA and loha will be the first match of the day here in cour two as we see the Hong Kong
China pair lead the Germans and incident the first four matches all happen to be Asia versus Europe matchups so lots of Pride at stake for these players who take to the courts here on Port two for Yung and Yung it will be a second Malaysia open appearance they made their debut last
Year and uh they exited in the first round then to India’s jolly and Pella that was in straight games 1921 1421 for EA and lwha this is also a second malatia open appearance they are two lost in the first round to the Imad sisters okay Hong Kong China red or
Black will be their second meeting it is black Des ENT okay server receive who to serve who will receive L will receive okay so we just saw the coin toss and uh the Germans won it and chose ends they’re going to stay on far end and it will be Yung Pam who will
Serve to get this match underway that was a result of the toss as I mentioned it’s a second appearance for the Germans they lost in the first round to the Imad sisters in straight games looking to go better this time around Yung ning is the older of the two Yung she’s 25 years
V and is enjoying a world ranking of 21 at the moment they have gone higher they’ve broken into the top 20 that was in October of 2023 when they got to 19 in the world young boy lamb 22 years of age and uh they’ve got a 59% win record
As a pair on the world tour and if you look at first rounds last year they were 12 wins to nine losses so it’s a 50/50% chance for them as far as first rounds are concerned Linda eer she’s the younger of the two at 28 years of age from M Deon
In Germany ranked 32 in the world currently but they too have broken into the top 20 and you have to go a little bit further back to July of 2018 when they were ranked number 20 in the world the partner is below how is 31 years of
Age from hellbrook in Germany and they have a win percentage of 37 so on the Lower Side something they’ll be certainly hoping to better in the first round last year the win loss record stood at 4-4 the officials for this match Kevin bar in the umpire’s chair from USA and
He’ll be joined in the service judges seat by Fabio Betto of Italy a will be officiating this match and I’m sure we’ll see them further down the road in later on the day so Ean loha met Yung and Yung last or the only time previously at the world
Championships in 2023 first round and Yung and Y won that 219 2117 so are we going to see more of the same or is it a new year and a fresh start for e and Loa to get a win under their belt here in quala Loa that’s the question that’s going to
Be answered in this match certainly look fresh and ready to go for another thrilling season of Badon both these plays have uh yet to win a tile on the HSBC BW World T so that’s something I’m sure that plays on the back of their mind they can even win here potentially hopeful for a Deep Run title run maybe what a story that would ladies and gentlemen armar right
Young naing and young que Lam Hong Kong China and on my left Linda effler and Isabelle low Germany young P lamp to serve to Linda effler love all play so here we go first match on court two Yung Pam will serve to get this first round Clash
Underway quick on theice over one love direct shutle to the far Court looking for the drop two love back [Applause] just going wide service over from what I know conditions on P two here in the arena there is a sideways drift going from right to left so they have to be careful when they hit towards the left hand side of the Port not much of a front to back two all
Drift so it’s going to be how they work the sides of the Court the sidelines nice lovely placement slightly faster shot that found the inside Line it’s a wild serve service over for the flick three all seem to have settled down now these two pairs for as long rally of this match still going nice change of direction from low rash of rets quick exchange and it’s a Germans Who come out on top after a over fairly
Long rally there but it was that quick exchange at the net that effler took charge of a tall Lady it’s hard to get past her especially at the net not easy so they stay in the lead Germans service for called to high and that’s a second over error on the serve from the
Germans cheap point to give away that time the serve was too high from LOA called out on that St back when he even scores [Applause] 5 4 flick serve that time from the Hong Kong pair and EA makes the mistake on the front court for the first time we see the Hong
Kong China to P get ahead get in the lead service over five [Applause] All lovely placement between service over the two German players 6 five it was Yung nating who intercepted the shuttle early finds the space in between gets the winner service over six all long service over 7 six it’s been very close start of this opening game so the
Germans have the lead for the first three points and now it’s the Hong Kong pair but the Le lead hasn’t gone more than two points that’s been the story of this game so far 8 six crosscourt with that drive service over few times that the net has come in
The way for the Hong Kong China pair struggle to get over it both from the back and the front Court service over 9 7 say that young and young at the moment have a better control of the rallies mistakes overall that was good attacking play 10 from Yung
S first time in this opening game we see a threep point lead Develop excellent placement 11 looks for the space between the lines and finds it Yung Pam that was a Visionary shot and EA at full stretch unable to play it back and that means that it’s Yung and Yung who’ve taken the lead here at the halfway point 117 up the mid game
Interval we’ve had eight minutes of play over8 when Court 2 20 seconds Court 2 20 Seconds quick break and they’re back on court now fourpoint lead for the Hong Kong China pair Y and Yung after a tight start establish control here good Court coverage by yunging but service over eer 8 making intelligent Choice there going cross and on the back hand of Jung service over [Applause] 128 again very aggressive hitting in those last two or three shots from Y and Yu they change the pace in that exchange quite quickly looking to dominate that rally fivepoint Gap now and you get the feeling that e loha are running out of time here this opening game service
Over e looking to take advantage of her height more often plays the Steep [Applause] beforehand Service over super shot she hit it hard she hit it downwards and loha kind of left helpless there Service for cold two high this time it’s Serv over who Mak the service error too high course as the first Tournament of the year they’ve got a few be a few niggles that the players need to get out of the system see a few more mistakes as they settle into the season
Oh she nearly got there yam 11 14 smile from lwh house says it all it was uh beautifully placed from loha Service over 15 shows quality shot making from her end of the court go for the drop shot of the net that’s wide well wide service over that completely you 15 but again a change of pace at the net that’s been uh one of the tactics that the German pair have
Employed and that has worked pretty effectively narrow the Gap now to Three good defensive work by pan there the drop shot from EA absolutely Sublime finds the T on that occasion look at That just two points oh fantastic work by Linda eer she covered net really well 15 playing that Cross Court winner in the end but look how quick she was going across the Net onepoint game that’s three in a row for the Germans 15 all make that four in a row and this is
Quite the fight back from EA and Loa who knew they had to make their move 15 all four-point lead vanished now service over this is what and have been so good at their un phased don’t give in easily still have a chance good decision from EA leaves a shuttle and inside the lines Again quick work Linda makes amends for that previous Mistake still have that narrow lead that’s the drift that they’ve got to be careful about when they play on that end of the Court trying to go for the outside line there and completely missed It oh well defended by Yung naing excellent work by Yung and yum defensively sto in that rally and it was a long one he stayed in it no matter what and you’d have to give credit to yung nting in this one as she not only showed her defensive
Prowers but then last couple of shots turned it into an attacking move so two points away now from clinching this first game 40 shots that one haven’t seen too many long Ries but that one was certainly entertaining two points away from the opener are y And Oh completely caught over off God 17 19 the Y they just weren’t prepared for that drop shot in the middle change of pace from loha at the back court does the trck play Hey being very careful with the shot making at the moment the four players on Court and that
Wasam service over changing it up game Point 17 plays the steeper forehand attacks lwh house forehand close to her body and that sets up three game point opportunities Lo game so the mistake from loha means it’s won by te and young first game 217 again controlling the rally from start
To finish here as they try to move their opponents around force them to make the mistake in the end and it’s been a strong showing in this first game by the Hong Kong China pair they have the advantage here having taken the first game 217 after 20 minutes Your C from both sides especially when you move the little out and and hanging like this come in and hit it you can do that I believe in okay it’s not that much we need but when we play all we have to be like yes this was okay
We have to keep that quality we don’t have to do more because when we push it a little one Start Court 2 20 seconds Court 2 2 seconds coach you turn to your chair well unsurprisingly the Hong Kong China coach did not have much to say to his words because well they’ve played a pretty good game uh I’d imagine the quot said to continue what they were doing because especially
In the second half they really turned on the pressure second game so a change events and uh it’ll be y serve to get the second game underway place in the second round awaiting the winner here is over just finds the outside line neither of them as I mentioned have won
A title on the HSBC bwf World Tour the best finish in 2023 for Yung and Yung was getting to the quarterfinals of the Denmark open service over lost in that quarterfinal to chingon and J fun and straight games eer and low the best finish 2023 was getting to the semi-finals of the European
Games 2 1 earned them the bronze medal they have gotten to a final of a tournament before that was a the Swiss open in 2022 we lost to the STA sisters in two Games lots of body shots 3 1 aggressive hitting by Yung nating two-point advantage service over two three well they’ll want to take early control of the game here Yung and Yung try and really turned the screw on their opponents having had the advantage and the momentum clearly on their
Side so for e and loha it’s all about withstanding this Onslaught that’s coming their way trying to turn things around 5 proving costly it’s exactly the kind of position ition that Yung and Yung would want to be in early in the second game great movement really well played out point from both
The Hong Kong China players you saw Yung Pam making that move towards the sides of the court and then Yung naing accurate on the followup play you got to say this is oneway traffic at the moment low serve and effective in the return as well Yung n he’ll be
Wondering what he can say to change things here for his players the German coach landed out 8 two for the corner Isabel [Applause] Loow Yeah that one going just wide service over was more a reactionary response from p just trying to go across the body of effler there on the back hand so it stops more importantly fivepoint run that the Yung were on 48 58 this is good fight back mini fight back from the Germans have to keep going service over 95 just as I say that it’s probably commentator’s Curse N this is the back line learn the flick serve which is always a tricky move a clash of rackets Oh that was clever play from yum she 10 went across E’s body and put her in a very awkward position there on the back hand eer had no choice but just to purely react thank you instead of being able to play her natural shot that means that Y and Yung once more
Four points Ahead service over 710 Service over well left 117 interval she did hesitate for a second there Yung Pam but makes the decision to let the shuttle go and it lands out so it’s 117 at the mid game break in favor of Yung and Yung stay on top of proceedings here in the first round
Match four 2 20 seconds four two 20 seconds coach return to your chair back on court fairly quickly and it’s uh Yung naing and Yung Pam who not only have the advantage of winning that opening game but now four-point lead 11 at the interval play it’s now or never for EA
Loha stay alive in the tournament well long service over [Applause] 81 Defending well here Ean low see that the Hong Kong China pack trying to mix it [Applause] up yeah bounced on that one in the end Yung nting service over despite e loa’s best efforts to stay in that rally Y and Y kept hunting for the opportunity and were rewarded thank you as nting absolutely jumped on that opportunity that one Going the Distance 50 Shots play left Linda get ready quicker Serv silver misses the drop shot that’s what she was looking for 9 12 lands on her end of the Court instead it’s reprieve bit of reprieve you’d say for effen low Missed that service over Isabelle Loa to try to get her ret on that Ming too high and Out Of [Applause] Reach oh four-point lead restored haven’t really service over been tested too much Y and in this second game I think from about 32 onwards exerted control a lovely lovely play it’s below how keeping calm Under Pressure 1 changes it up completely opting for a drop at the
Net Linda Linda Linda Linda you have to get ready quicker it’s a couple of times that we’ve seen Kevin B tell Lind to 1 get ready faster she’s testing his patience a little bit at the moment look at that it’s a one-point game three in a row for EA
Loow we saw it happen in the first game as well where they tried really hard to service over change things around 14 in fact in the first game they closed up a four-point lead made it 15 all and then still went on to drop the first
Game have to go better this time around e no How we can’t afford to make mistakes that’s for sure 15 12 just trying to notch the shuttle over Linda there fail and you kind of get the feeling that for Yung and Yung 16 12 these last couple of points where the mistakes have come off the German rets and just put them at
Ease pressure is off no they’re just five points away from winning finds the outside line 13 16 uncharacteristic from y maybe Rush that net shot a little [Applause] Bit twoo Game O she missed that service over nope she got it across my mistake looked like it was going to fall on her end of the court but she just got it over fifth pun says it all yeah she hit that shuttle pretty hard really it could have gone either
Ways but she’s managed to get it over yam much to her Delight FV second frustration 15 17 she drove that straight into the net looking to just push it over good to see a smile through that though digging deep here the Hong Kong pair service over and they were rewarded as lwh House s that long but it was that save there from
Yung Pam that set up the mistake three points away from a win in the first round good uh 19 15 she’s on the floor trying to make the saves in fact not follow suit 16 19 intelligent play from the Germans especially loha and effler on the followup as well there she stuck
To the right hand side of the Court loh how It’s A wise choice thank you two points away still from this match are Yung and Yung e Loa with a fair bit of ground to cover here to win this to push it to Deci Super Yeah service over misses it completely eff Max Point looking for the slower drop the shuttle landing on on her end of the Court instead and that sets up four Match Point opportunities here for Yung and Yung play Still going see the Germans trying to attack here waiting for the moment careful play from Hong Kong China game oh patient play in the end there from Yung naing and Yung Pam and it pays off as they secure the match by winning the second game 2116 they just stayed in that rally didn’t
Make any dramatic choices putting the pressure sarly on EA and lwh how there match won by younging and young 217 21 from the German racket that handed Yung and Yung their first victory of of 2024 217 2116 and 45 minutes they’re through to round Two [Applause] We you’re watching live coverage of the Patronus militia open 2024 we’re coming to you live from Court 2 here at the siata Arena and as you see there some beautiful scenes of the Malaysian Capital quala lumo that’s where the first tournament of the year is being held and it’s an exciting City with
Fantastic food and a lot of culture it’s a melting point here in Southeast Asia uh great visit for the players who come here every year they thrilled to be here and why not it’s a great City to be in well we’re on to the second match
