Would you like to know the number one reason you rush your down swing well get comfortable because I’m going to tell you exactly why that happens and more importantly how you can fix it so we want you to feel at ease with your gol swing and that’s going to make your
Pales jealous and you’re going to be walking around the golf course 10t high and taking shots off your game so golfers feel rush because generally they don’t swing back correctly they get themselves in the back swing position that means they don’t have time or space on the way down so then even though
They’re swinging quite slowly it feels all of a bit of a mad rush so let’s give you the opportunity to create more time and space we’re going to tackle two things we’re going to look at how the arms can move in the back swing and how the body
Can move in the back swing to make you feel that you’ve got all the Time in the World to complete your down swing the first thing we’re going to look at is the arms making the arms feel wider to more to the the side of your
Body in order to give you time and space when you swing to the top and this is what a lot of golfers do the arm will bend probably a bit too much and the hands get too close to the Head this right arm particularly bends too much
And from there then getting down to the golf ball the sequence gets all wrong and it feels as I said a big mad rush if we can get the feeling of this Trail arm in particular feeling that it it’s straigh or wider that’s going to give
You more time to get back to the golf ball also cuz we’re wider we’re going to create more natural speed so we’re going to create more time more speed and we’re also going to have opportunities to get the club into the right positions as well because of those things so it’s winwin
Win couple of ways I want you to feel this the first way is if you take your lead hand put it behind your Trail elbow and make a back swing and try and keep this Trail arm what I’d say feels like it’s long certainly straight we’re
Certainly going to feel like we push our hands to the side more that’s the first way we’re going to get you to feel that secondly with this what I want you to do is if you push your Trail hand onto your lead thumb like this and push
As you swing back it makes both arms feel like they push away and it’s much more what we would class as extensor action where we feel we push down on that thumb to create that widening in the arm and that space we want to feel
At the top of the swing that these hands are to the side of our legs as we complete our back swing and to support that obviously we need a body that’s going to do a ro but if we just focus primarily on the arms initially and really feel that this
Trail arm feels like it pushes into this thumb at the top of the swing that is the feel I would want you to have when we get to the top and for sure it’s probably going to feel a little bit more wooden and a little bit wider and stiffer and that’s
Definitely what we want to feel for the practice area on the golf course we just want to feel something simple like keep the hands wide of the body and make a big body turn now let’s talk about the body side of things how that supports
This so what we tend to see with the body with these guys that Rush the down sing is they don’t make a full turn and if they do make a full turn it’s a very cheated turn it’s not a thoracic turn or rib cage turn so what I want you to do
Is take your lead hand and put it on your PEC take your Trail hand put it on your belly and then from there we want to feel as we swing back both these hands MO move and we would face completely away like this this is where
We want to feel the rotation and to facilitate the rotation breathing is good so breathing in as we swing back and deep breaths we want to feel that rotation and the recruitment process of the rotation should be the rib cage moves then the hips move then the knees move
Then the ankles move so try and feel we recruit that way in the back swing so we recruit from top down and if we get this rotation then and put these wide arms into it we have huge time then to get back to the golf ball so these will be exercises that I
Would recommend you do at home I’m going to share with you one now you can do hitting balls to give you more of a feedback station type thing to tell you if you’re in the right spot or not so if you take a rod and just attach it to
Your rib cage and again I’ve got it attached by a bungee here now if I take my setup now what I’m looking for is this Rod to get way behind the golf ball I feel again that my arms feel that they’re fairly straight both of them I’m
Pushing my trail hand into this lead thumb that’s the feeling facilitating that obviously flare in the feet helps and good posture helps that swing there felt like I had so much time because it I made what I would say was a more deliberate and larger back swing so I felt like I was
Off the ball more than I probably would want to be but again that’s part of this process we want you turning and moving off the ball to create the right feels during the swing so creating time in the downswing is all about the preparation moving well in the back swing makes the
Downswing feels like you’ve got space time time to square the club up time to turn through the ball and all that space creates is more speed more width more speed more power more distance and again more relaxed golf more breathing helps you play better and feel more
Comfortable and take shots off your game

Thanks Alistair al give that a go 😊🏌👍
Thanks for watching I stopped rushing my downswing with this backswing trick
Excellent video Alistair on how to stop rushing the downswing with the proper backswing sequence! I know that my tempo gets out of sorts at times and I think it all has to do with too fast of a backswing which leads to a fast transition to the downswing. I like your recommendation of taking a wider backswing by pushing the arms out with the hands with your recommended downswing body sequence to follow. Well Done Alistair!
Well explained and really helpful. Just what I needed to hear right now. Thanks very much.
The best advice i have had, thank you
You mentioned that it was ok to move off the ball some to turn, is it ok to have some lateral shift of your head and body during the backswing to extend your turn?
