Crazy Price Crazy Speeds Cleveland XL Launcher 2 Driver Review

Are you looking for a driver that offers crazy speed and crazy value? In this video, I will review the Cleveland XL Launcher 2 driver, which claims to be the fastest and most advanced driver in Cleveland’s history. Cleveland has used artificial intelligence to design the new driver face, the AI Smart Face, which creates a series of sweet spots all over the face for more distance and forgiveness. The XL Launcher driver also has a huge head size and a lightweight shaft, which make it easy to swing and launch the ball.

So today let’s take a look at the Cleveland launcher XL drivers this is the XL 2 so the second iteration of the XL drivers these drivers sit in a really interesting place because the cost the cost puts them at quite a unique spot and the performance puts them amongst

The pack which is a bit of a that’s counterintuitive isn’t it let’s start off with the looks and the feels so initial Fortes they look big friendly very clean as well like there’s not much visual going on on them which I think makes a lot of sense for the price

Point and maybe golfers that this is aiming at the standard sits neutral you see more rounding off in the toe than you do in the draw the draw definitely looks like it’s going to draw and they’re quite stretched back at the back they feel quite low to the ground at the

Back here as well which again just gives you that sense of user friendliness and that their you know their weight at the back helping you with Mish hits ideas the neck is very subtle as well like they’ve got the changeable neck now which we’ll look at the tech as we go

And that’s actually very very subtle not as chunky where the pr models didn’t have that standard to kick us off oh yeah that feels like a bomb look at the numbers um they’re loud like they’re decent noise they’re not carbony they’re not trying to be duller

In their sounds like they’re up there in the noise does give you that feeling of speed and power even though it’s not true like that doesn’t relate through to numbers but that’s certainly the feeling that it gives and in a world of drivers with so much carbon flying around this one actually feels

Quite loud energetic not too loud just like it you know it makes that titanium trer sound feeling oh yeah that feels so solid I’ve gamed launcher drivers before and when I game them I often think oh yeah that does they just feel simple and solid what I do like is how neutral this

One sits like it just it’s big friendly and neutral it does make me feel like I can just stand here and give it An Almighty wallup look at that woohoo bomb bom so if we look at the drawer we definitely see this end here the toe is

Kind of straighter turned in more where neutral one is more rounded here we’ve also got drawer written on the bottom here yeah in there faintly um you can see that it’s the draw model when I put it down I can see it and it also looks a

Little bit more like the shaping in the heel is different like there’s more in here so I’m going to R out to the right cuz this one feels like it’s quite draw see if it moves back yeah it’s starting to come back and I’ve aimed a long way right there

Sometimes feel with the draw drivers I should just aim down the right building a draw driver and just woohoo sling him in same sound different slightly different look as you put down by the ball but not everyone would notice that same feel and look at it I mean it

Does I towed that slightly and this feels quite aggressive in its draw which for me personally again who this is aimed at with the price point I think there’s lots of positives in that some of the manufacturers I test the draw driver and I think oh yeah it’s quite

Subtle like it makes me change shape I don’t know how much it would make others change shape that feels like a good strong drawing driver which it should do again for the kind of clientele we might be shaping it a bit more the Casual go

For a little bit more at the price point that could be gaming this but again the more I say that I just think well why aren’t more of us using these kind of clubs at this price when we all moan about how expensive clubs are and it’s

Not as if Cleveland are like The Golden Child cuz they’re part of shrien and Zio which steps way up in the price but I use the Cleveland and I think well we’ll show you the numbers as we go like why are we paying more cuz to me they both

Look clean simple easy and I can see what’s coming out in initial testing and it’s pretty impressive so Cleveland say this driver is built with the Avid golfer in mind you define what the Avid golfer means for me I think they’re just designing clubs at a price with tech and not kind

Of bamboozling too much with tech for the everyday golfer someone who wants a good driver as good as some of the top brands in golf but it’s not fuss with too much Tech talk possibly maybe in the comments let me know what it means to

You so the club is built around the main frame XLF face technology this is allowing them to keep the ball speeds up when we’re done on it all across the face and not hitting our best strikes so it’s an AI driven face thickness that’s again trying to keep those bull speeds

Where we need them because bull speed will always drop off when we don’t hit The Sweet Spot that’s what makes this game so fun fun and anyone who’s got the XL1 in the XL2 we’re seeing an increase in Moi from different weight distribution so in this axis as well as

This way so heel toe high and low they’re increasing the Moi The Twist of that head when we don’t hit it in the right place which again will transfer into more bull speeds it’s all coming from the face it’s coming from where they put the weight and it’s coming from

That driver base kind of from the ground up for the Avid golfer they’re saying who is possibly going to dot it across the face a bit more than others we also get the addition of the adjustable huzzle so we’re now able to dial in Lofts and a little bit of light as well

So for the price you’re getting Tech that most you know AI driven face technology variable face High mois yet you’re not getting quite as much bamboozling just a little bit of bamboozling in an all round gameable package I think the price is a sweet spot I think it’s a sweet spot for

Anyone who wants top performing but not that crazy high price I think the prices will always uh kind of for some people reflect on M being not as good because if it’s not expensive how can it be as good that’s a common human reaction um I

Think if you test it amongst others you would be shocked so I think the prices are Sweet Spot which will play lots of people into Tech that’s like decent and worldclass but also at the same time I think some people the price might play

Them out of it cuz they think well I do want the more expensive let me know what you think in the comments should all drivers be more at this Price so when it comes to the data of the performance with this club they’re amazing I mean they sit in the pack which I think for the cost is what makes these really stand out but only if you want them to stand out cuz I think the cost throws up a different question

Which we talked about earlier but the standard model I can get that beenin between 22 and 25 which is exactly where it should sit for that kind of head I’m getting crazy ball speeds out of this club it’s fast so anything averaging around 164 165 for me averaging is fast

That’s allow me to touch my top end of 170 which I got from these and the launch is good and the draw was very similar it did just obviously with that heel waiting bias just go a little bit further left for me with my natural shape of shot when I’m trying to hit

Longer drives like now which can be a little bit of a draw the draw option is just not going to suit me but for anyone who wants to calm down curvature to the right the draw option might be there slightly higher spinning I saw two to

300 revs but they were close to each other which was quite interesting the numbers were pretty impressive considering again who this club is aimed at and the amount ofi kind of presence that they’re pushing in the size of this head now we got a fun little game where

I just push the idea of forgiveness on to see exactly what I can get out of these Clubs so it’s called friendly which means I can stand here and hit it as hard as I can on this very friendly 18 in here at s Andrews and not hit the cars down the right is that true 352 yards I’m not going to hit this screen

How close can I get it with one of the friendliest clubs I’ve tested I’m going to just build up the going out of my boots lovely drive into the I can’t not hit it into the safe bit 162 ball speed 31 C or distance this is post Christmas I haven’t really swung

For getting on to 3 weeks with my breaks cuz I was away before Christmas that’s not bad kicking off the new year it’s not the numbers that make us not buy this club I always think little bit thin but I definitely have more speed it won’t come out in

Ball but there was more Club there you see it’s a little Wilder has gone all right that’s getting there for me that’s a 163 ball oh getting a little clean but I am ABS I mean I do feel and it’s a feeling like I can just stand here with this

Club and most drivers this 163 ball again and just bashet I remember playing with one of the DP World Tour stricken players a couple of years ago and I was using the Cleveland and he was like what Drive was that and he had to go and he

Was like cool that just feels so easy and like good flat flight on it cuz he was so kind of in the stricken band he forgot that he could look because obviously it’s marketed as a pick up and play bit of a Fit club and he was like

I’m going to get one of them just a little under the radar sometimes right come on let’s have a strike with these speeds not bad I don’t think it’s going to be my best ball speed but it’s good distance isn’t it I mean it’s out there

And I you can see how that’s 163 ball slightly high in the face two three spin just good numbers just one more I need to get faster don’t I I need more 170 balls this year 2024 more 170 golf balls consistently rather than having to build up to there

Every time what’s the B speed on that struck that okay bit heel side 164 ball I one more you can see that’s a 27 spin so if I got that struck better 64 ball we are basically near my at the- moment top end which I’d like to know your feelings

On in the comments there a toilet so I am turning that that’s my first real wild one but because how can a club at this price be performing in the data the same as others it doesn’t seem right does it 164 ball post Christmas I’m liking that if you’re

Finding your draw drivers don’t draw enough definitely try to draw one if you want to spend a decent price to get a worldclass brand but in affordable prices but at the same time world class performance is what it feels like go and test like do you get the same I don’t

Know why we pay more yeah I do play the stricken driver I could easily play that as well if you want to know how to get more distance out of your driver use these ideas because they’re helping a lot of golfers increase their Club head speed and increase their ball speed and

Hit it longer

  1. Mark could you please test the smash factor of original 1991 Big Bertha driver? Its my belief that pre-1995 drivers, including older persimmon, had max smash factor of 1.40. I think the higher smash factor in post-1995 drivers accounts for 75-90% of distance increase seen by today's golfers. Thanks

  2. Hi, Mark. I will be buying this club next month. What is the standard shaft option? I noticed the draw had a different one. The previous model had Project X Cypher. Also with the draw driver, is the face closed or does it have a weight closer to the heel Thankyou.

  3. I think Srixon/Cleveland can be very generous with their pricing! The Srixon balls are a bargain! The Cleveland wedges I have were a great price as well 🤷🏼‍♂️

Good price to quality ratio from most Srixon/Cleveland product imo 😊 7:11

  4. Big fan of Cleveland usually more the wedges , i will be honest the top view crown of this driver is so plain and boring looking i would not be gaming this

  5. Reality is no matter how close it is in performance I’m not spending £350 on this. I would rather go for 2 year old model for £200 or even less. (Like play now, it was brand new. Cobra with loads of “tech” in it. I also am not spending £600 for Callaway, Taylormade etc either it’s madness unless you are playing multiple rounds a week and notice / feel the marginal gains or enjoy the fitting and buying experience as a pleasure. I can’t get my head round who is buying the massive volumes of equipment each cycle at top price to keep it going!?

  6. Best driver I ever hit was the original Launcher. Something about the combination of the head and that standard gold shaft made it special. Anyone know who made the shaft? Heard it might have been Fujikura.

  7. The shaft options are very limited and as this is a key part of the club they won’t sell as well because you can’t really get custom fitted .

  8. I play a draw driver. I usually hit it pretty neutral and the club just makes those fade-y ones more straight and the straight ones more draw-y. Let the club do the work

  9. Cleveland has always made good clubs. I have a Cleveland Launcher Halo #3 hybrid in the bag now that is good as any hybrid that I have ever tested. My other hybrid is a #4 TS2 that goes in and out of the bag depending on course. The Halo stays in because it is that good.

  10. This club gives me M2 vibes. A club Taylormade accidentally made better than their flagship M1 (and I think maybe 100 bucks cheaper?). Once they realized their best driver sales weren't the M1 they completely redesigned the 2. Rebranded them. Rumors are they flipped the internals of each to the other. Then upped the price to exactly the same. The M2 suffered and the M1 performed more like the previous version of M2. You can literally look at the clubs and see that the 2nd Gen M1 looks better. Theres something to the shape and how it sits. This club is no different I dont think. Cleveland just isn't trying to rob people of their money

  11. the cleveland classic 290 that is like burgundy n gold that looks like and old-school driver is awesome. still one of my favorite looking..

  12. Good to see something out there, in the driver space, that is not £600! Your test review shows impressive performance and the adjustability is a great feature – many thanks

  13. I think cleveland has been making great clubs for years and this could be the best out of all of them. Only £350 for a new driver, that looks good and performs well is awesome in todays market and in the future I will try and get my hands on it for a review. But there is always the issue of buying new that you can save yourself money by getting the last year models or even before that as let’s be honest, there hasn’t been too much difference over the years from past drivers. Right now you can pick up the Aerojet for brand new under £300 and be fitted for it which will probably perform better than this regarding distance.

  14. They are a brand that probably should’ve been bought out like Hogan, Adams, Lynx, Odyssey etc. In a different world, imagine they’d been bought by Nike through Tiger’s wedges. They might still be the best selling brand in the world with their signature Nike Launcher driver and Woods Wedges line. 🤷‍♂ Well, until yesterday anyway!

  15. I always love a good Crossfield club review… Great stuff Mark! Proving once again that there is no need to break the bank completely to get a driver or other club people can get on with! Love it!!!

  16. Would love to see a video detailing all the drivers you have tested with an overall master table with your averages for each [price not a factor, just specific ball data eg carry and total distances]. So for this instance the Cleveland XL2 maybe sit better than the TM stealth 2 but not as good as the Ping G25. So basically how it really stacks up against the market, but to see if tech is actually moving the needle!

  17. Have your trousers fell out with your shoes Mark? 😂 sounds nice – I like the ti sound – spray job looks cheap on the top but you would need to see it in the flesh to gauge that

  18. I picked up last years launcher for £130 on eBay and it’s one of the best drivers I’ve hit. As long as any other £500 plus driver

  19. When I first saw this I was really impressed. With the exception of the face the head looks very much like a TaylorMade Sim driver.
