I’m going to give you five things that you need to do to make sure that you become a better player with your irons let’s take a look at number one before we get into number one guys I want you to subscribe to the channel it’s totally

Free to do and we give you lessons like this every tip Tuesday to make sure you’re getting better at the game let’s go and see how we’re going to hit these better tip number one let’s set up for Success a lot of the times we’re setting

Up for failure real simple a couple of things that I just want you to check off to make sure that you get right before we actually make an iron swing real simple a lot of the times I see people with the weight in the wrong place what

We actually want to try and feel is that as we stand to an iron we’d actually have a little bit more pressure towards the target side so a lot of the times it’s the opposite with thinking I’m going to hit the ball up in the air so I

End up leaning back behind in an aid to try and help this golf ball up as we make a golf swing pressure shifts what we want to try and see that in setup real simple just feel that that middle of the body is either on top of the golf

Ball or slightly in front of it secondly let’s just try and create some good angles throughout the golf swing let’s just make sure that as you stand to it you’re not stood looking really slouched really rounded back no bending your hips no bending your knees let’s just try and

Emulate what we see on TV where we see a more athletic posture I want you to stand over the golf ball feeling like you’re a 10t tall feeling that you’re really athletic not feeling old and shriveled as you stand to it and then thirdly just check your ball position

You can see here three balls that are down if we’re thinking that our wedges and n99 we want them to be in line with the middle of the stance our mid irons we want them just in front of the middle of the stance and then we’re getting up

To our longer irons we’re going to have them a couple of balls in front of the center of our STS and play around with this evera slightly because it might be different for you depending on on how your golf swing is because every golfer is different so number one just make

Sure we’re set up for a bit of success now that we’ve actually got a decent setup I want us to focus a little bit more on what we do in the back swing because this is where I see a lot of people make everything fall apart and

Then it’s very hard to actually recoup ourselves and get any form of strike as we stand to our golf ball here what I see a lot of people doing is either changing their levels as they make a back swing so instead of rotating they lift or we move away from the golf ball

Too much so we end up getting this swaying motion what we want to try and do is make a centered back swing as we go through and what I mean by that is that as you stand and you’ve now got that little bit more pressure towards

Your lead side what I want us to try and do is make a back swing and real simple if you just put your Club across your shoulders like so and then just alternate the arms and cross them over what I want you to try and feel is is

That as you do this number one to stop that level change if you’re standing up you would see that the club would go flat what we want to try and do you just see that there’s a little bit of angle there and it’s running through my

Shoulders and then number two if you are a big swayer you won’t really see much rotation and you’ll almost feel now that this club butt the grip of the club is not pointing down towards the golf ball what I want to see is that we try and

Stay a little bit more centered and see that it’s pointing somewhere down towards the golf ball there it’s not up towards the sky it’s not off into the distance of the range just try and make some golf swings that as we go through we try and feel that we stay nice and

Centered the pressures will shift amongst our feet but we want to try and see that we get that nice centered back string because if we’ve moved off the golf ball it’s very hard to try and get back towards it and actually get a decent strike so few rehearsals feel

That you’re centered and from there then we’ll see that we get pretty good strikes with our irons tip number three work on your angle what is your angle into making a good golf swing and what I mean by that is that if we watch all the good players

Versus all the bad players we see down at our Golf Club our angles that we create between the shaft and the golf club between our wrists are going to be different as we’re actually going through the golf swing we see that every good player actually creates a bit of

Angle and stores it as we go through every bad player does create some angle but they throw it very early so as we’re coming down common word that I heard I’m scooping the golf ball so what I want you to try and do is actually use your

Angles at the right time so real simple drill for you all I want you to try and do is just swing back to here and set some angle in your back swing from here then I want you to make a few swings where you pump and you make sure that

You’re keep in this angle as you’re making your golf swing what you don’t want to feel is that you’re throwing the club head down early this is for people who really fat the golf ball a lot and feel that they’re dumping the club down into the ground early just make some

Swings and have some practice swings as you start where you feel that you set the angle Pump It pump it and you keep it and then just have a practice swing where you graze the ground do this four or five times and it will feel totally different to when you actually

Pump it and throw it you’ll feel everything go as you do that once you’ve actually done it and you can create it Pump It pump it and get that graze just hit some shots off at about 60% with an 89 a 79 just doing that little drill

There and what we’ll start to see is that actually now you’ll start to actually get crisper strikes as you’re going through create it Pump It pump it oh that was sweet so try try and actually make use of the angles in the right way we need them to actually

Create that compressed ball and turf strike don’t throw them because you’re not going to get good strikes from there if you are enjoying this lesson guys as I said earlier do remember to subscribe totally free to do and we have a video like this to help you get better every

Tuesday let’s take a look at tip number four tip number four and five we can both learn at the driving range but they matter more out on the golf course so tip number four we go down to the driving range and we hit a lot golf balls joing this season over winter or

Even if you’re collecting data from things like the shot scope watches and other apps that you can use you’ll start to find some Tendencies now what I mean by that is that when you come to the range and you’ve got things like top Tracer or you’re using OnCourse

Technology you’ll start to notice a pattern and the amount of times that I play golf with friends and let’s say the majority of golfers are slicers and there is a pin that is on the right hand side of the green on a part R three and

They are stood aiming right at that flag and there’s water bunker trouble on the right hand side they hit that shot guess what happens we end up in the trouble on the right because our tendency is that we miss our shots on the right even here

As I’m hitting golf balls at the range today I can notice that as I’m actually hitting some shots now my grouping is actually to the right hand side of the flag of the Target now what this means is that if I know I miss most of my

Shots to the right hand side I should never aim at anything that is on the right hand side because if I don’t quite get to that shot it’s going to miss it right so you can actually become a better iron player just by understanding how your golf ball curves throughout the

Air we might have a slice we might have a draw just play with it just actually be a little bit smarter of how you’re actually going to play your goal shots because like I say if you’re aiming at something and there’s no margin for error on where your misses the chances

Are you’re going to actually start racking those numbers up just by making poor aiming and strategy choices tip number five is all to do with the number on the bottom of the clubs they are IR relevant they don’t mean anything because a lot of people’s clubs are

Different Lofts to the ones that you’re using you might have a set from 10 years ago you might have a new set you might have a more traditional set you might have a set that’s designed for distance and if I get into the game of well what

Did you hit oh well you hit your 79 150 I know mine only goes 140 but I don’t want to feel less of a man I’m going to try and smash my 7 ey him that’s not what we should be doing we should be when we’re down at the driving range or

We’re out on the golf course collecting a little bit of data to actually give us our true distance today it’s actually minus 2us three as we’re hitting golf balls here so the ball isn’t going anywhere as where when I was over in America the other week the ball’s going

Further and we’ve got to know these sort of things because today my actual 7on yardage is dropping significantly because of the conditions that I’m playing in so again just like TI number four try and make some better decisions some better choices when we’re there we can do things technically to work on our

Golf swing but as well if we’re not making smart choices when we’re out on the golf course or having an understanding of what we actually do with our irons those technical things that we’ve worked on they’re irrelevant so try and actually get a true distance

For all your golf clubs if you can do one thing for me one thing that you take away from this lesson go and actually get an idea of how far you truly hit each iron because when you then get to a scenario let’s say your 7 Inon goes 150 and the flag is

152 don’t pick that 79 cuz you’re not going to make it don’t think I’ll just hit hit my best one ever because you probably won’t if your 6 iron actually goes 160 or 162 just hit that because the chances are you’re not going to get it about 80% consistent and it’ll

Probably fall onto the flag and just because you hit a 6 iron and a seven iron doesn’t mean that hook that you hold isn’t counted it means that you’ve actually made a better choice and hit a better shot just by knowing how far your clubs go so five things that you can do

To become a better iron player moving forward forward into next season guys share it around with someone who is absolutely slapping their irons and we’ll see you in another lesson very soon on tip Tuesday

  1. Quickly becoming my favorite golf content creator on YouTube Mr. Fryer. Excellent stuff again! Keep it comin'!

  2. Great lesson. The ball position for me is key for me. This time of year in the UK there are a lot of windy conditions. I find if I set up long irons or hybrid nearer the middle of my stance so that I can get a wind beater low flight. It works for me, maybe not for others, but I found this by accident so we all have to experiment.

  3. It’s awesome your giving people Pretty simple to understand instructions of the fundamentals they need to save strokes and strike the ball better on the course. With out getting into things more in depth that’s just going to cause confusion and ultimately making things worse for a individual.

  4. I struggle with my irons and i can honestly say i don't visit these fundamentals often enough. Thanks Matt

  5. to add another thing to that is i did my club gaping indoors on a trackman and since we're talking about 7i T100's i hit 172-175 small cut and 180 with a draw but now that's its winter im 10 yards shorter at least so last week im hitting a 7 into a 160 par 3 and still a tad short.. i never lived in a cold climate in the winter and the drop off is insane im learning to hit one maybe two clubs extra and taking strike into account as well im a 4hdc

  6. I'm pretty good with my irons. Well not horrible. Lol. But I can't properly hit my driver if my life depended it
