On today’s episode of The Mark Titus show Coleman Crawley is joining me Coleman uh has was a guy who popped up on my radar about a year ago uh he was was going around to small schools around the the country mostly the Northeast but around the country uh trying to just

Basically have some Intel on some of the smaller teams that he anticipated being in the NCA tournament so when the time comes in March to fill out your bracket and uh a guy like me that watches a lot of power Conference basketball is staring at like a you know like a

Virginia Tech or something I’m like yeah I know those guys but who are they playing they’re playing thousand like I’ve never I don’t know anything about t um that’s where Coleman would fill in the gaps I he he he went viral or at least viral in college basketball

Circles whatever that looks like um a couple different times where he was you know behind a a bench of a small school with a crowd of like 50 people and he’s clapping it up and yelling at the coaches and encouraging them um I don’t know I liked his energy and had him on

The show I thought we vibed well and uh I wanted to have him back on because I’ve been watching a lot of the uh not a ton let’s not get crazy but I’ve been watching more and more smaller schools don’t say that to insult the schools

Just just the reality that you know the the nonacs and big 10s and sec’s and Big 12 Big East you know the power conferences um I’ve been watching I watched Dayton the other night uh playing Davidson and and the Colorado State game that I mentioned I think on

Last show against New Mexico and uh I’d watch Colorado State against kraton as well but the Colorado State team I’m really into so uh there’s enough going on in my brain with some of these smaller schools that I thought we go to we got to talk to Coleman we got to get

Coleman back on the show so we did that talked to him for about a half an hour he’s an awesome kid I’m rooting for him so hard uh he he he works his balls off and um knows what he’s talking about very informed on all these I I cannot

Stress enough how difficult it is to be to come on a show like this and we didn’t really do much prep at all and I just started like throwing names and player of players and uh and teams and like what conferences you like all that

Sort of thing and to be able to just like rip off guys and and and resumés and all that I I I will always be impressed when guys can do that because it tells me that they’re they’re they’re legit and he is certainly legit so I hope you enjoy if you’re new to

Talk about that a little bit um all that coming up let’s get to it all right as I just said uh I am wearing a bin rothberger rothberger Jersey excuse me for those of you watching on YouTube which I I feel the need to call out because it’s a questionable decision I’m

Not I’m not stupid this is uh I I do not exactly want to be wearing it B rothberger Jersey around town uh regularly but I did this because one it’s it’s jerse day on mostly Sports the other show I do uh with Brandon Walker and every Thursday we we wear jerseys

Whatever um and I was going to I was looking for a Jersey to wear today I have no idea why I have this it makes no I still don’t really have a good reason it’s a 2X it’s a 2X uh I will say when when I was in high school baggy clothes

Were in in a big way I did probably wear 2x in high school I have no idea why I would have bought a Ben rothberger Jersey maybe it was on sale I mean at the time he we didn’t know some things about him that we now know he was he was

A rookie quarterback that won a Super Bowl if I remember correctly he won it in his rookie year right that’s that’s Big Ben that was Big Ben’s thing I thought he won the didn’t he win the am I misremembering that I thought he won the he’s won two Super Bowls right

Didn’t he win an ‘ 05 against the Seahawks is this right Cody I see a head nodding I’m stalling confirmed confirmed he was a rookie his rookie year Super Bowl champion I’m pretty sure that’s what it was I I I imagine second season a [ __ ] whatever he was a young quarterback he

The youngest Super Bowl winning quarterback in NFL history that’s what it was he was the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl I probably saw this on sale somewhere um not long after that and I was like I don’t know he’s going to be awesome right he’s going to win a thousand Super

Bowls maybe I’ll get that Jersey I don’t know what the story is I’m just trying to fill in the blanks because all I know is that I own a Ben rothberger double X Jersey that I did not realize I own until my parents brought a huge box of

Jerseys to my house and we’re like dig through this and find something you want to to wear to jerse day um so anyway I I saw that today threw it on all of that is to say I Threw It On in support of uh Jersey Jerry resident uh Pitts B

Steelers fan who hit the hole in one today um I got to say uh in the 10 months I’ve been at bar stool this the last 36 48 hours I guess we’re at now um have been my my favorite by far I mean this is this Saga with Jersey Jerry

Has been quintessential bar stool it was so freaking fun to watch like a a it was a crazy idea from the start but just to watch it become crazier and crazi year and to watch it Grow from the like I don’t I think if Jerry did get it within

Like 5 hours it still would have been an awesome stream it still would have been a ton of fun and he would have done massive numbers because he always does um but just to watch it drag on and and become like a a thing a capital t h e

Capital th i n g thing the it was the thing for for a little while there um it was crazy so uh I don’t know I I wore the jersey to support Jerry and and I I I I I’m so happy that he made the the

Hole in one but it was it was like it was one of those things that like I had a really difficult time explaining to people that weren’t locked in on it but but this was also one of those things that a lot of people were locked in on

And I have people in my life that don’t really follow bar stool don’t really uh know they know what I do for olivan but they’re like oh that sounds nice good luck to you or whatever and I just have like a personal relationship with them

Outside of this uh circus that I work at and those I had some of those people that were texting me like is one of your co-workers do sleeping in a golf simulator like what’s going on um it reached that level and and it’s just like so delightful when that happens

Because it just like underscores that it can only happen at a place like this TJ it can only happen here if if if I was working at Fox Sports and we tried to do the same thing it would be interesting to a certain extent it would not you

Would not have the PGA Tour putting out videos of all the players congratulating people and it would not have you know it would not it would not take on the life that it took on right um stuff like this is the perfect example too of like the

Power of the barcel network which I think is like a big thing that people don’t or kind of underestimate about like how far our reach is is that when we put all of our energy behind one thing and everyone like says go watch this one thing we can make it Trend

Number one across the United States for a day and a half but I’ve said this a bunch of times in the last 36 hours this blew every YouTube metric we’ve ever had as an expectation marker out of the water like this is one of the crazier

Things maybe at like I was talking to zah about it maybe when Saturdays are for the boys took over for a summer that was like this but that was different this is just like an isolated one one one thing yeah it’s crazy how how many people were watching this I’m not as

Well versed in barcal lore but maybe that helps because the things that break through yeah the things that I remember were were the things that broke through and I yeah Saturday for the boys was was that was a movement that was definitely a movement didn’t it like Dana beers have something

Beers yeah the for second there small piece in that machine I remember that uh it’s like that and DG streams but that was Co related yeah this was I I got to a point where it was less about like trying to watch Jerry hit a hole in one

And more about like I was like pulling myself like a couple levels back where like I’m studying I’m like in real time studying myself watching Jerry where I’m like what is it about this that makes me watch this and I’m trying to like get inside my own brain that’s like this is

Would I watch this if it wasn’t Jerry the answer is yes like if I if if there if I didn’t work at Barone and I had no idea who any of these people were and someone was like hey man there’s a guy who’s on hour 35 of trying to hit a hole

In one in a golf simulator I’m probably clicking on that link and watching it um but why like I can’t that’s the part that like if I tried to explain to somebody that wasn’t has no idea that this happened I hear myself talk and I’m like yeah I don’t really fully get it

But I think it was just that that nature of you never know what it it could be the next shot it literally every single shot could be the shot I can’t turn it off now it was crazy because that that was yeah I don’t know like I sat there

Last night uh I got college basketball on and then on the laptop and pulled up Jerry and I’m going to bed and I’m like I just spent 4 and a half hours watching Jerry hit a golf ball into a screen what and I don’t really regret it but like that’s

An insane waste of my time but then when he finally hit it I’m like validated all of that was worth it um I don’t know it’s it’s it’s crazy and uh I’m I’m so happy for Jerry I love Jerry and uh I don’t know if this is the place to do

This uh I didn’t I didn’t have any intention to do this but I’m gonna do it for my guy Jerry now um he gets like he gets an unfair rap at this rep at this company as like being the the the surviving bar stool deal where he was the the charity case and

Everyone was saying that he was getting voted through just because everyone feels bad for him and and and you know what whatever the narrative can sometimes be around Jerry um the reason people are nice to him is because they feel bad for him and he’s a charity case

And he’s Dan’s lap dog and all that sort of [ __ ] Jerry’s like the nicest dude that works at this company I [ __ ] love Jerry I would go to war for Jerry he’s been nothing but great to me and this goes back to when I first got hired

And we went to uh Columbus to watch college basketball games and um I got to know him a little bit like just hanging out like off air of those streams or whatever and he was he was like super nice to me then um in a way that like I

Realized like every every clip I’d ever seen of him he was like a kind of a buffoon that’s not a that’s the wrong word he was you know what I’m saying like Jerry like [ __ ] his pants and he’s you know like doing stuff like that and then I’m just like talking him like

Dude you’re you’re the nicest guy like you’re so down toe and cool and all that and I just say that to say like the reason for for any bar fans that uh are watching this right now and and and you’re watching Jerry and you’re like why is it that PFT and and surviving

Baro like falls on the sword for Jerry why is it that Dan will um you know as Jerry’s doing this golf stream he’ll neglect his family at times to go sit in there and clap it up for Jerry and all this sort of thing it’s not I promise

You at least I’ll speak for myself never mind forget P PF and and it’s not cuz anybody or I feel bad for Jerry it’s because Jerry is the man it’s that’s why and it’s like he he is the reason people like Jerry is because we we just he’s a

He’s a good dude and he works hard and um you know there he might be the only person at this company that was willing to do that for 36 hours how many of us would love the idea and then we would start it and be like [ __ ] this dude I’m

Not doing this I’m going home you know um and he sees it through and and I just say that like every ounce of success Jerry has is because of Jerry and he’s he’s been lucky along the way and there have been people that have helped him

Sure but uh you could put a lot of people in that exact same spot that Jerry’s been put in and you know if you think Dan or Dave or whoever else is is giving him a boost um Jerry is Jerry because he’s I’m I’m Jerry Jerry is

Jerry because Jerry is Jerry that’s my that’s my statement put that on a quote card um anyway I didn’t I didn’t plan on doing that but I I felt I felt like the moment was right cuz I I love him and sometimes I I’m watching his streams and

I see what people say about him and and all that sort of thing and you know as a guy who knows him I I I I love that he had this moment and I hope uh I hope he continues the show I hope he continues making the show awesome it’s just like I

Don’t know where he goes from here I do I do legitimately worry about like I’m GNA cut my head off now to double or nothing next week yeah two hole in on two hole in on um all right before we get to Cola we got to talk talk about uh

Ohio State Ruckers TJ yeah uh a game that you said you tried to say that you didn’t care um you said I’m moving on to next year already which is fair like I I get the I get the mindset because this Ruckers team isn’t awesome and you

Certainly have help coming on the way um but you did you did text like when Ruckers was making the comeback I was I I sent a neutral text I said close game in Columbus because it was a close game and the game was in Columbus these are all facts these are

All facts um it wasn’t a close game and then it was and then it wasn’t you guys aren’t that bad it’s just like a it’s just a Ruckers team that’s they’re Raw it’s a it’s a Ruckers team that’s like one step below but like that I’m I’m

Watching the game and I’m like this is this is Ruckers basketball it was uh we were scoring a little easier in the first half than I anticipated on a Ruckers defense but um no Derrick Simpson’s good you yeah you got guys that can play Gavin Griffiths needs to

Score more points per game if he wants to live up to being a five star but uh because he was on the bench at the end of the game and only had like three points but Derek Simpson coming on is is good like because he’ll be in the rotation

Next year certainly yeah uh you’re gonna win some games though like I I like Ruckers is gonna you’re gonna yeah you’ll beat Purdue at home um you’ll you’ll you’re you’re not a you’re not looking at like a three- win big 10 season I don’t think so uh you you guys

Have a good team but yeah Ohio St man I’m I’m I don’t know I I see the writing on the wall it’s just like I know where this is headed um we’re 12- two we should be 13- one we we choked away a Penn State game we should we should

Currently be on a 12 game winning streak right now uh we were up 18 on Penn State and just completely handed the game away um and we’re getting far too comfortable at doing that we we almost did we up 14 on West Virginia what were we up last

Night are you guys 14 I think it was 14 at one point it was 17 17 and uh you cut it to two it was it was two one never took the lead it was very close though very close um yeah this Ohio State team is I’m a broken record with these guys

Uh they’re good I enjoy watching them they’re great kids uh I I I I do think they are a good basketball team in the sense that um they are skilled and they play well together at times it’s just I get the same feeling over and over that the team

Has no idea what the score or time is and they’re just out there hooping and playing which I don’t mean like they’re unorganized they’re playing organized basketball it’s just like the part of your brain that’s supposed to lock in when there’s eight minutes left in the

Game and you’re up 10 it’s like let’s [ __ ] step on their throats now I don’t think this team has that and uh I’m very worried that that’s going to again be the thing with Ohio State basketball this year but it we’re 12- two and as rosin pointed out the last

Time last year I saw his tweet that fired me up our 12th win last year came February 26th and our 12th win this year came January 3rd so with that in mind I uh I won’t complain too much I just I I see where this the the reason

I’m like frustrated is because we are winning and and and I see I see what’s going to happen which is we’re going to continue to win and and it’s going to pull me back in and then right as soon as it pulls me back in we’re going to

Lose in Nebraska and Tomy Naga who had a monster game last night by the way against Indiana is is going to do it against us and and I’m going to be a very sad boy but uh anyway congrats to Ruckers on the moral Victory cuz I I

It’s a moral victory in in defeat for us and seemingly a moral loss in Victory for yeah yeah like we both came in and I I feel like you’re in a better mood than I am about that game not so bad for some of these guys yeah uh we’re 12 and two

Uh of framing what it is you do which is you you are locked in on all the smaller schools uh across the country and the other night I’m watching Colorado State play New Mexico State I was watching uh Drake play in Illinois State last night

I I I was I caught a little bit of the Dayton game and I thought I got to get Coleman back on the show man because they I’m not as locked in on some of these smaller schools as I need to be Colorado state is 13th in the country

Now um FAU obviously is is at this point not necessarily a Cinderella but they were a team coming in that like had that same James Madison’s undefeated so I I got Coleman on the show we’re going to go through some of the uh the the less

Heralded I I the way I I phrased this to you Coleman was I just want to talk about teams that are not in the power conferences that’s basically it um right yeah and I really have no structure other than just like let’s just Riff on

It dude like what what so far this at this point in the season what excites you the most what player what team open-ended question what about non power Conference basketball you the most right now what what excites me the most right now is how they performed in the non-conference

And I think for my brand the mid and small majors are very set up to have a great Cinderella season when we get into March if you look at the Mountain West I mean they’re due right now to perhaps get five teams yeah into the NCA Tournament San Diego State made the

Final four last year Colorado State off to a tremendous start Utah State just got a big win they’re inside the top 30 in in the net rankings you have three teams that home and on the road are quad one opponents um Boise stayed off to a bit of a slow

Start but I think you know they’ll they’ll continue to uh Vault up the standings who else in the Mountain West two more um Nevada I think in New Mexico God New Mexico has so much talent so the Mountain West is right up there with some of the lower tier Power Six

Conferences and they’ve got a chance to get five six bids in you never hear that about a mid- major league anymore and then each of the other I think four big ones Missouri Valley West Coast Conference A10 and the American all I think can get multiple bids and then we

Have some one bid leagues that have the opportunity if their champ loses in the tournament um in their conference tournament they could potentially get in so just how the mid Majors have performed in the non-conference is what has me most excited yeah the Mountain West is a is legit legit dude I was

Watching the yeah the Colorado State New Mexico game the other night and Colorado state is so fun their their offense is awesome to watch Isaiah Stevens is is an absolute bucket and the cardier kid that’s like a uh what is he the D2 transfer D3 I don’t remember but um they

Move the ball they all cut well they they don’t take bad shots Isaiah Stevens will sometimes take bad shots but he’s so good that it goes in uh I don’t know if I fully trust their defense but whatever they they are they are they check all the boxes for me of a fun

Major team now they’re ranked 13th in the country so they’re not exactly I don’t know what your definition of Cinderella is um you know like they might they might mess around and and uh you know be a top 10 team before too long but uh they they they they’re not

Exactly a brand though nationally that you look at going into a college basketball season and say I’m going to lock in on Colorado State and that’s where I found myself I love this Colorado State team they got a big one Saturday they’re going to to Utah state

Is good too so to your point I I I’m really really into the Mountain West myself I mean you know for Colorado State they went six and 12 last year in this conference and now they’re ranked 13 in the country the depth of the Mountain West

And that depth allows for so many quad one and quad two opportunities to continue to build your resume the rest of the conference at least in the top six at least if you look at Kim P all of those teams are more defensive than offensive oriented so Colorado state is

The one team that’s the exception so be interesting to see how it plays out allason I don’t think they end up winning the Mountain West I think they’re a little too offensive Focus but Isaiah Stevens cardier Scott Clifford they are a very fun team to watch and

One I’d love to see make a second weekend the other thing about the Mountain West that’s underrated is it is it is a conference full of Banger after Banger atmospheres at all these like I mean San Diego State I’ve I’ve been to games there it it gets crazy uh the the

The pit in New Mexico is crazy Utah State I’ve never been but like you know I I’ve seen that place get get why I assume this weekend it’s going to be how many of those have you been to personally so that’s the biggest fault of my Venture I’ve never gone west of

High 35 too much land not enough schools I get it and you’re right the Mountain West brings some of the best environments and I’ve never got a see one so um unless funds start to change that would be big time to get to go out

No that that makes total sense man it is hard that’s that was that was a wakeup call for me when I moved West was like I’m going to just be going to all these West Coast College basketball games and then I realized you’re basically stuck

In LA and that’s even going to San Diego State I was like man that’s kind of a far drive to get to San Diego from from La um but no they it’s it’s great atmosphere great basketball Mountain West has really positioned itself especially with the uh with the death of

The Pack 12 coming Mountain West is like right there as you know a very very good conference and and a conference I’m excited about too the other one for me I’m going to answer my own question you said the Mountain West um I am fired up about what is happening in the Missouri

Valley uh this Indiana State team is very fun I don’t know how good they are but they are very fun and and for me like that’s what I want out of the smaller schools is like we’ll figure out how good you are in March right now I

Just want to know that you’re fun uh Xavier Johnson on Southern Illinois is a bucket he’s fun to watch uh Tucker Dev at at Drake and that that team like they I I assume they’re going to be the favorites to to win the conference but the Missouri Valley has I don’t want to

Say it’s like wide open but there’s there’s a lot of different like Dev was the player of the year last year but now I’m looking at like Avala at Indiana State and Xavier Johnson I’m like you know one of these guys can win Player of

The Year any of these teams can win the conference um yeah are you are you are you as much of a fan as the Missouri Valley as I am absolutely I am and I love to see again talked about the Mountain West depth the Missouri Valley at least for their standards the the

Depth has much improved the bottom of the conference outside of Valpo has all improved um so there’s more opportunity for Quad 2 games which I think gives the Missouri Valley a chance to get multiple bids Indiana State right now is 31st in the net so if they perform well in the

Regular season even if they lose in Arch Madness they could still get in they’re similar to Colorado State a team that’s right now at top the conference but very offensive oriented and the defensive end the lack of the commitment there scares me they play extremely Up Tempo fun

Brand but I don’t know if long term it’s going to be successful I like Drake with the breze with their balance a little bit better and yeah Southern Illinois was Xavier Johnson’s the biggest question mark to me I went and watch them at home against Bradley last year

Put up 48 points with do mask with Lance Jones both those guys are gone yeah Johnson averaged seven points a game last year and this year he’s putting up like 25 those guys that have those massive jumps from one season to the next I don’t know who they’re working

With but it it baffles me well man so so often uh it’s this way in the NBA too but in college certainly it’s less about talent and more about opportunity and guys just get more of a green light and that’s sometimes all it takes it cracks

Me up like especially it seems to happen more in the NBA um I don’t know why Jaylen brunson’s a guy that comes to mind like he was always good in college but like he gets to the NBA and uh he’s playing alongside Luca Luca gets hurt and then like I remember that playoff

Series where like would be out of games for the Mavs and then Jaylen Brunson got like the ultra green light and would just go bananas and then everyone’s like damn this guy’s really good I’m like he’s kind of been good always he’s just been playing with a guy who’s got the

Ball yeah so so there there’s so many yeah there’s so many hidden gemms man guys guys get their opportunity and they they rise to the occasion um what uh like what players what individual players would you say you’re you’re uh you’re like I don’t I don’t know how to

Phrase the question maybe the team’s not as good maybe the team is good I don’t know just like individual if there was such an award for like the guy that is not on ESPN or Fox every night but is balling out and you love watching him is does such a guy

Exist one I mean you mentioned them earlier but Dayton out of the A10 and their poised right now with where they stand to potentially getting at at large bid knowing Dayton and what they’ve done recently they’ll find a way to screw it up injuries something like that but Don

Holmes is so fun to watch especially year after year watching him expand his game he’s now a 44% three-point shooter so at 610 611 with that size in the A10 he can typically body guys inside but now when you got him got to guard him

All the way out to 20 couple feet that just expands the rest of their offense um he’s one of my favorite players to watch I’m trying to think of some others that I’ve seen you know one interesting one this is why I love traveling to all these small conference games Tyler

Thomas um is the leading scorer for HRA was averaging about 25 a game I think he’s now down to 22 I watched him at Iona just get into it with Speedy Claxton both of them in each other’s face and then after that they wouldn’t talk to each other the entire second

Second half Thomas would just go to the corner and not even try to get involved in the offense um ended up scoring like nine points so seeing that type of stuff one of the best players in the country just give up in a half yeah I thought he

Would one that you know I would say that’s a guy that’s not on ESPN but you want to see the night that I saw him would back him interesting interest see that’s good to know those are good nuggets the rest of us are just kind of checking out box scores or checking out

Scoring averages and you just assume that um a guy’s good here’s a name for you Jaden Le at San Diego State uh who started the season like looking like wi Chamberlain with the stat line yeah he’s not keeping that pace no he’s falling off for sure but uh he’s another guy

Though and you want to talk about like the role expanding San Diego State goes to the final four guys guys transfer guys graduate it’s a different team still the same program still the same culture uh and then Jaden leig his minutes go from 18 a game to 31 and his

Expectations cuz once you go to the Final Four like all right now let’s ride this momentum and then you know you have a team that is pretty good but not great and I think if I was a San Diego State fan it would feel like kind of a let

Down they’re 12- two but they just you know you lose to Grand Canyon and this doesn’t feel like a special San Diego State team but it’s just I don’t know I’m yeah I I I don’t think their final four special but I mean not to make this

A Mountain West podcast but I think there’s going to be multiple Mountain West teams in the second weekend and I think San Diego State could be one of them I mean Dutcher in in his focus on the defensive end I think it pays off in

March you saw it last year I don’t think they’re going to repeat that but I could see second weekend um James Madison undefeated one of three undefeated teams we have left um one of those undefeated Old Miss will go to Tennessee I believe on Saturday this Saturday and you know

Anything can happen but also we’re expecting a Tennessee win probably Old Miss will fall will lose for the first time and if it doesn’t happen then it’s going to happen soon enough uh Houston is very good but they’re they play in the toughest conference arguably in the

Country so we assume they’re going to lose uh James Madison and we got to be careful because they do play tonight we’re recording this we’re recording this Thursday afternoon they play Thursday night they play uh at Louisiana I think um so I’m not putting them on undefeated watch yet

I what I’m asking you is from what you’ve seen of James Madison does this feel real or is this just like a fun story CU they beat Michigan State to to open the season good win but then Michigan State hasn’t quite been the Michigan State we expected them to be so

Where where do we fall with James Madison in terms of expectations because there I mean you look at their schedule they’re probably going to be favored in just about every maybe there’s going to be one or two that they won’t be favored in which isn’t to say they’re going to

Go undefeated but we’re it’s trending towards like a 20 and0 James Madison situation and now we have to have a real conversation about how good this team is I’m not all that impressed with James Madison um terms of I I don’t think that they’re even the best one bid League

Team oh wow but because of the Sun Belt this year and how weak it is the drop off I thought Marshall was the most disappointed or was my most disappointing team in terms of missing out on the NCA tournament last year Southern Miss had a great season last

Year but a lot of the top of the Sun Belt lost a lot of their core from last season so James Madison’s poised with the drop off of the rest of the league League to where they’re going to be decent favorites in every single game that they’re in the rest of the way

Tonight is honestly one of their biggest challenges the Louisiana on the road one of their biggest contenders I think app state is probably better than Louisiana but outside of that Louisiana may be third so once if they get through tonight not once they get through tonight if they get through tonight I

Think it’s looking pretty strong for them to be you know 20 couple wins and okay can they be undefeated heading into the N we I haven’t really thought about it but I I’m I’m going to think about it for the first time right now on the air um we’re

Not worried about a situation where they they’ve won like 28 games but they still have to win their conference tournament to win I don’t know what does their resume look like they got the win of Michigan State big time yeah no they don’t have very many quality wins I want

To say they just have three total quad one and two wins so and they aren’t going to have very many quad 2 opportunities with the Sun Belt being not very good so I think they can afford probably two losses but that’s about it um so they got to still be pretty

Perfect if they lose in the championship yeah man like they they Dr let’s just hypothetically they lose at App State um you said tonight whatever they lose tonight they lose to Louisiana and App State um and they’re 28-2 entering the sun Bel tournament that would be wild if

You have to win like they they opened the season beating Michigan State they beat a good Ken State team too in the second game um but yeah they don’t look at their schedule now their metrics it’s not great their metrics are just not great even Kim pom has them like 64th

And when you’re undefeated and you don’t have very many good opponents remaining on your schedule it’s tough for you to improve very much from there so with a couple losses you start to drop into the 70s and it’s not looking good dude and and after the JMU football season where

They were undefeated and they started puffing their chest and then that kind of fell apart with AB state that would be brutal man if they started if they started like 25 and0 and somehow missed the tournament that would be apologies to for PFT and the rest of the yeah

Apologies to JMU fans listening that I even put that out into the uh Into The Ether um speaking of like having to have a good schedule and all that stuff you’re just talking about uh this time of year one thing that I always do and a

Lot of college basketball fans do is we pivot to Gonzaga and we say all right now gonzaga’s non-conference is over and for a long time there Gonzaga would not necessarily play a tough non-conference schedule those days are long gone Gaga does play they realize that the West Coast conference isn’t going to give

Them the competition they need and so if they want to get a one seed in this a tournament you got to load up in the non-conference they’ they’ve done that in recent years and and uh they’ve they’ve earned the right to like earn their they’ve earned their their

Reputation I I I would say um but I still look at the WCC and ask myself like will there be enough teams that can give Gonzaga a challenge one to make the conference interesting two to get Gonzaga battle tested for the NCA tournament I don’t think this Gonzaga

Team’s that good and on top of it I don’t think the West Coast conference is that good is there a silver lining like because St Mary’s to me was not they’re not as good as they were supposed to be BYU is out of the conference now where

Where does your temperature read on the West Coast Conference as a whole no there’s not much of a silver lining and I’ll say this gonzaga’s in Jeopardy of missing NC tournament wow um of the five biggest you know mid- major conferences I would say all of them performed better

Than preseason expectation in the non-conference except the WCC and they were significantly worse San Francisco is the only exception of that but San Francisco’s played nobody their metrics are great because they’ve killed most everybody but they don’t have really quality wins Gonzaga against every really good team they played they lost

They really needed to split against either Washington or San Diego State but all of their wins now look meaningless USC UCLA Syracuse none of those wins mean very much anymore they’re 57th in the net St Mary’s has several losses they’re 53rd in the net those are two

Teams that I thought would be second week in team St Mary’s a five seed last year bringing back three of their four leading scores I think the issue for Gonzaga they already didn’t have much depth when you lose vinners for the season that killed much their their

Chances to look anywhere like they have in recent history for St Mary’s Logan Johnson meant a lot more to that team than I thought just as a Creator they miss him as a Creator to set up their offense their still Elite defensively but lacking on the other end of the

Floor um the WCC could be a one bid League this year I think there’ll be a two- bid league but they could be a one bit League Gonzaga does have that game against Kentucky in February at rupper which Loom very large yeah cuz I I I just pulled up their schedule here too

You’re right man there it’s they played some tough teams like they have played a decent schedule it’s just they’ve lost all the good teams and that’s not that’s not how this works you have to beat good teams eventually and there’s just not a lot of opportunity left um except for

That Kentucky game so that’ll that’ll be a big one for sure uh so last year I have you on right before the tournament and we’re talk we’re trying to flesh out like Cinderella that uh you know we can expect to see in the tournament and for

A tournament that had a Wild final four certainly an unpredictable final four and going into that final four uh you know the whole week leading up to it everyone was talking about how this final four stinks because it’s four Pro you know exception of Yukon but you got

Three other programs that aren’t you know blue blood types and um and all that sort of thing that was kind of The Narrative of that tournament ultimately and also we have a 16 seed being a one seed I I was surprised Coleman going back and looking Princeton was the only

Team that was a double digit seed that made the sweet 16 last year that’s pretty crazy um and is that true I think you’re right you are right is that wild because like we think about the tournament last year and we’re like dude upsets everywhere Wild final four you

Got 16 over one you got 15 over two and then you look up when the dust settled and it was like actually there’s kind of not that Cinderella I mean FAU felt like a Cinderella but we all knew FAU was good and San Diego State same sort of

Thing I mean I kind of I kind of came to you in a bleak mood last time I was on the Pod you brought up all these matchups and I was like listen I hate this match up I hate that matchup there were very few that I was excited about

Drake was one yep and they blew a seven-point lead late what do you know Miami goes to the final four um and then Ferman was the other but then they got blown out by San Diego State in the round of 32 they go to the final four I

Went to eight 12 and 13 seed games thinking that’s where the money’s made terms of Cinderella only one got the win Ferman to kick off the day so wasn’t a great year for Cinderella except the long shots Fairley Dickinson and then Princeton and Princeton this year that’s

My best team in a one bid League that I think’s better than James Madison wow uh better than Grand Canyon I I think Princeton’s the best team in a one bid League all right well expl expand on that like what I mean I I I didn’t they

Lose their top two scores from last year and absolutely I thought they would I didn’t think they’d be the ivy League’s representative losing EV bman but with what they’ve brought back they’ve allowed these guys to use their skill set to their advantage a lot of them are great penetrators isolators creators and

Then they’re still a really good three-point shooting team so they’re great at drawing too and then either kicking out to the perimeter for a three or driving getting to the Lane getting to the foul line finishing at The Rim um they’re a fun offensive team to watch

Another one St Joe’s is a team that I think I they just lost to Rhode Island who I thought would maybe be the worst team in the A10 so not looking great right now but the reason I think they could be a Cinderella four of their five leading scores double figure guys uh

Granted they 10 not of one bid League kind of switching now but four of their five leading scores shoot at north of 40% from three so that’s the type of Team come March if they are able to get hot win the 18 tournament or get in as

An at large you do not want to be seeing as a six seed with their three-point shooting potential yeah they they boy that Rhode Island loss is tough and they they already lost to uh they they had a bad one at the start of the Year too cuz

It was right before the Commerce I think that’s right because they they took Kentucky to overtime and at the time that felt like it was Earth shattering for Kentucky because it’s like how are you letting the team that just lost to A&M Commerce take you to OT um but then

They beat Villanova uh very up and down season um but some of these tough like losing to losing to Rhode is is a is a stinker and commerce is a stinker uh a10’s good though A10 was a one bid League last year right is it’s been I

Think the last few years two or three now yes oh this is dire it’s a dire situation the A10 is supposed to be getting like four yeah they were a decade straight of a three bid League every year oh man well I do like I do

Like Dayton um I don’t know who else s Bon Aventure is another good A10 team um what else who else uh what what about like the tiny ass schools you is there any who what’s like the wild what’s the like what’s the game you’ve gone to or

The game you’ve watched yeah you don’t have to go to it just the one game you’ve watched where you felt like there’s only 100 people watching this game and I’m I’m one of them oh gosh so I went to the holiday hoopfest at UBS Arena I think St John’s

Will play a game or two o over there um but the opening tip of talson Bryant there’s no way there was more than 60 people in that gym there’s nothing like meaningless it’s not even a tournament neutral sight games like why why are we playing these games on a neutral floor I

Think it was nit St or maybe the low major Madness guy someone quote tweeted the game I was at and like I’m convinced um these things are [ __ ] I just blanked what’s the word I’m looking for where like the laundering schemes money oh yeah money laundering screen

Yeah yeah yeah no that’s it because there’s no way that it’s it’s for profit yeah exactly yeah yeah you’re trying to just like pretend that that yeah yeah that’s it’s exactly what it is moneya laundering that’s hilarious um are you still you’re still uh I’m excited man

Pick that back up so you know the schedule’s a little spotty in the non-conference I moved to New York at the beginning of December so went to eight games then but then came back home for the holidays but about to head back up north and so I’ll go to 28 games in

28 days is the goal right now working a full-time job this year different than last year so perhaps there’s a few games I’m late to or something like that um but about to hit it hard so haven’t been to quite as many games yet do you take recommendations if the people reach out

Clarity on on what happened there but they made me pull my name out of the draft uh it’s one of the great wha ifs in sports history um so yeah like I I’ve had people rush to my defense point that out say uh Titus probably could have

Which you know like we could we could talk about that if we wanted I don’t want to but uh you’re saying Joel andb is having the best season in NBA history you might want to do some homework and figure out who how Joel embiid learned to play basketball because uh go go back

And look at the evidence when Joel embiid said that he learned how to shoot a basketball from Googling white guys shooting threes um and he did this the timeline matches up that the Mr Rainmaker video that I made in 2010 was pretty much the white guy shooting

Threes YouTube video at the time so there’s a pretty good chance that Joel embiid learned how to shoot a basketball for me and for Pat Beverly to laugh when he hears my name so like this point TJ if we’re counting it up you have a guy

And myself now who uh was in the running to coach Chicago State before we mutually agreed that it wouldn’t be a great fit so I’m a kind of a Chicago basketball legend for for that reason uh I’m a Harlem Globe Trotter that’s New York and I taught Joel embiid how to

Shoot a basketball that’s Philly so if we’re talking Chicago New York and Philly my credentials speak for themselves and and and that’s where I’m at with all this I don’t mean for this to be a pat bef I’m not taking shots at

This is this is a matchup that should be a rivalry I think it might be a rivalry but I’ve always in all my years growing up and and and now being an adult watching Big 10 Basketball um I’ve always felt like Illinois and Purdue had very similar Vibes uh uh with their

Programs like they’re they’re both very good but like don’t have a ton of history in March and I don’t say that as a slight I just mean like they both have that like shared [ __ ] not again type feeling uh in March Madness they’re both like blue collar type schools like West

Lafayette and champagne are are I will say that they’re they’re they’re not they’re not very high on my list of big 10 uh Big 10 cities to visit but that that like they they’re linked by that they both have like round rotund uh uh gems the gems are just perfect

Circles both of them those two gems uh I don’t know I just remember like thinking like they got a lot of similarity and they’re very close to each other champagne and West offet um anyway I would love to see Peru Illinois become like an actual uh important college

Basketball rivalry and this year it’s setting up to be because they’re the two best teams in the Big 10 right now so uh they play on Friday I’m I’m excited about that one Carolina at Clemson uh Saturday I do like this Carolina team I’ve talked to about that

For a little while now Clemson is I’m I I’m One Step Above wait and see but I’m not quite there yet at the same time so I think that’s still I’m at the top level of a wait and see situation they just lost to Miami uh by 13 uh which

Gives me pause like they they they’re two losses they lose to Memphis on the road and a close one uh a good Memphis team no shame in that um and then losing at Miami like it it wasn’t particularly close for to that game uh and and but

Miami is Miami is a weird team because they obviously went to the final four I think there was some expectations that that Miami would be pretty good this year and I I think they still can be uh so I I I’m not panicking about that loss

But if am I taking Clemson seriously as like a an ACC favorite am I taking I like I said I I I’m not at wait and see the because the the Bama game the the um really just the Bama game they they they they win at Alabama but they’ve they

They’ve they’ve got some good wins what were the other ones uh let me pull this TCU is what I’m thinking of they they they beat TCU I watch that game too um I like I like PJ Hall I like the but it’s just I’m something about Clemson

I’m like I need to see more just to sco more and and they got Carolina on their home floor on uh on Saturday so that that’s a great opportunity for for me to walk away from that being a a Clemson believer uh Old Miss is at Tennessee on Saturday as well

Um I Tennessee’s got to beat the hell out Old Miss I I I I can’t I can’t handle myy cornering me in this office and being like what do you think about the RBS we undefeated I’m like meny I mean you’ve played an embarr but they

Had they did beat Memphis and I just said Memphis is a good team and they did beat Memphis so um but I just I miny I I love miny but like I don’t know how many times I have to explain to him that like Chris beard is not a likable

Fellow like we’re not the rest of America is not watching ol Miss start what is it 13 and0 at this point and we’re not all saying to ourselves man what a fun story this is that Chris beard um gets hired immediately for a situation that 20 years ago he would

Never be coaching college basketball again and now he just gets hired immediately at all miss and they’re 13 and0 um which whatever you know beat the teams in front of you uh but you know they haven’t really beaten they haven’t they haven’t played much of Tennessee

Has to beat the piss out of them and and I hope they will uh that’s on Saturday so that that game uh is is a game that I will certainly keep my eye on Colorado State Utah State’s the one though uh with Coleman coming on we’re talking

About the Mountain West and how how good that conference is uh watch that game and then Marquette at seon Hall Sean Hall with another upset against the the the Providence uh against uh Hopkins going down obviously makes a big difference in that one but Sean Hall uh

Just full of upsets now they got Marquette coming to town Frank will probably be there I imagine and and jenss and the whole crew and we might get to see another seat Hall upset so those are the games I’ll probably be watching this weekend uh hopefully you
