Hello and welcome back to Hoy Hall Golf Club my name is Ryan rastell we’re here in the performance center and we’ve got some brand new golf balls from Wilson to take a look at the staff model ball has been out now for a couple of years

They’ve got a brand new version of it now and including a staff model X we’re also going to look at the updated Triad and Duos soft golf balls as well we’re going to put all four together we’re going to show you how they kind of compare against each other but not just

For me so I’m going to hit 7 iron and driver with them both to give you a good feel uh and look at the data on the track man but also we’re going to hit them average Club head speed with the driver as well and tell you which one

Comes out on top so before we do that let’s have a bit of a chat about each of these golf balls so let’s start with the staff model and staff model X golf ball now as the names would suggest these are the premium golf ball that Wilson have

Released for 2024 the staff model has been out on the raw version for a couple of years we have looked at these on the channel before but these newer versions have changed ever so slightly the X version is a firmer feeling slightly higher spinning with the wedges and

Irons uh and the way that is is kind of brought about is a slight difference in the core but also the mantle layers around there’s four piece to these golf balls so we’ve got um a core that’s a little bit firmer in the X model than it

Is in the standard uh staff model we’ve also got some slight differences in looks as well so we’ve got the nice red number on the staff Model X black number on the uh staff model these are are aimed to kind of go up against those kind of Premium level golf balls that

All of us are used to so the prov1 prov1x the next ball we’re going to look at is the Triad okay many of you have used this golf ball and absolutely loved it over the past couple of years and it is a brilliant brilliant golf ble sits a

Little bit lower price pointwise so we’ll go through the prices of these later on in the video but it’s kind of a mid-range golf ball that Wilson now have it’s a three-piece golf ball um the whole story around it is the kind of high Moi story where lots of the weight

Is moved to the mantle and the outside it’s still got a nice um sort of kind of midf core really it’s not as soft as Duos soft but will um but we feel softer than the staff model balls that we’re going to hit as well so aimed at that

Kind of mid Club Ed speed player or maybe someone who just wants a bit of performance but doesn’t want to spend the money that the premium golf balls kind of demand the other model that we’ve got is Duos soft okay so this is a two-piece golf ball this is kind of

Aimed at probably the widest kind of breadth of handicap out there price point wise it’s their kind of entry level golf ball really into this this sort of marketplace um it’s going to feel the softest of all of all of the balls that we test today maybe not going

To spin as much in your short game but will certainly be um an option for those of you wanting to keep the price down on a dozen balls when you buy them so without further Ado let’s go hit some let’s see how they perform like I say

I’m going to hit 7 iron and driver with all four these golf balls show you how they perform for me and then also we’re going to get some um at a lower swing speed as well and see which one comes out on top we’re going to start with the

Staff model X golf ball so of the four we’re going to hit this one should feel slightly firmer than all of the others um but it should be more of that kind of tall level golf ball that I’m probably used to using so when I’ve used um golf

Balls in the past I’ve tended to go for the softer feeling of the two in the premium category that each brand does so I would have thought staff models probably going to feel nicest to me one of the things I really look for is that

It spins a lot in the short game so obviously th this golf ball is probably the best of all four we’re going to hit for that so let’s just hit a few and see what it feels like so I’ve just got seven iron here I mean it feels pretty good I mean

It does feel a little bit firmer than the golf ball that I’m probably used to but don’t really mind it sounds quite good yeah I think it feels pretty good off the face to be honest I tend to either be prov1 or I’ve used uh chrom soft X in the past as well

But it feels a little bit firmer sounds a little bit firmer but in terms of the distance and the spin so far looks pretty good right so now we’re going to move on to the standard staff Model golf ball I have used this before in its

Previous form so I know kind of what it feels like but it should be a bit softer than what we’ve just hit in the X so let’s have a few hits with it and see yeah certainly the strike sounds a little bit duller off the face doesn’t

Quite sound as clicky as we heard in the X version but yeah I still think it it sounds pretty good yeah definitely softer terms of the numbers it doesn’t really look too too dissimilar to be honest um the spin is very similar the distance at 181 that

One I’ve just hit there which is pretty decent so yes it does feel a bit softer and it’s more the sound of it than the actual um sort of feel off the face if you like they they feel pretty similar but you can just tell that kind of

Clicky higher pitch sound that you get from the X so next on our list is Triad so this remember now is a three-piece golf ball still a urethane cover so we’d expect it to feel really good but maybe slightly different when we look at the numbers that we get on the track man

We’d expect it to maybe spin a little bit lower potentially but feel a little softer off the face so let’s hit a few actually feels very very good it is softer than the staff Model golf ball but I don’t mind that at all I think that feels quite good distance wise it’s

A couple of a couple of yards shorter just on that first one that we’ve hit there but still we’re talking two yards really there’s not a lot in it yep sounds feels very very good um and performance- wise so just straight off the bat there looks pretty good as

Well so let’s really now use this fourth golf ball Duo soft and see exactly how that compares to the moall duo soft remember is a two-piece golf ball in terms of price point it’s down at the lower end so we said we were going to talk about price well U Duos soft is

Going to retail around the20 mark for a dozen Triad around £30 and staff model and staff model X around 440 so you’ve got a nice kind of step in there in terms of price point which for those of you that are more conscious about what you spending on golf balls you can kind

Of look at a golf ball in the Wilson family that’s going to suit your game but also suit your budget as well because obviously we want to do that too so Duo soft should feel the softest off the face you know very low compression golf ball so it’s going to feel you know

Buttery soft really off the face but we’d probably expect it to spin a little bit less and maybe not quite get the numbers that I’m looking at with with the other models that we’ve tried but let’s give it a go yeah I mean it feels extremely soft

It feels like the ball like melted onto the club face then let’s hit a couple more God knows what it’s going to feel like when we hit driver yeah it’s crazy soft we can see actually even in here we see it’s launching higher it’s hitting the screen

That little bit higher so I’d expect probably to maybe see the ball flight be that a little bit higher there as well and we have a lost a little bit in terms of distance there that was a pretty decent 79 and it’s about 8 yard shorter

Than I was hitting um with the staff model but it’s kind of what I’d expect from the sort of speed I’m hitting it um it’s not really designed for that so so um yeah we’re probably going to see that but like I said we’re going to try at a

Lower swing speed as well later on and who knows we might see a completely different result but we’re going to hit some now with drivers with all four of these golf balls then we’ll hit some at slower speed and then we’ll have a look

At the data so let’s take a look at the data that we’ve got with all four of these golf balls remember we’ve hit seven iron and driver and then done some slower swing speed ones as well so if we look at the S iron okay so we can see

There the staff Model golf balls not a lot to choose between them in fact pretty much identical staff models carried a couple yards further for me but um the an and spun a little bit more uh X little bit lower spinning but yeah essentially 187 is kind of total

Distance with both which is kind of a good a good 79 for me really and and a lot of Wilson’s kind of marketing around these golf balls is that they are the fastest urethane golf ball out there on the market then when we look at that um

In comparison to Triad and Duo soft we can see that the the distance drops off a little bit so we we’ve got a little bit less ball speed off the um off the face and also a little bit less distance as a result so around six yards less

With Triad five yards less with Duo soft then we look at it with driver Okay so so when we look at all four of the golf balls here we can see with um staff model uh and triad right down there spin wise you know the the uh Duo soft was

Actually pretty good spin wise as well but we can see a big difference now in ball speed with the driver so Duo soft being the slowest which again we’d expect sort of 275 305 total distance then we move on to Triad 282 carry 3113 total distance and then when we see the

Staff model 2887 and 292 with the the X model which is slightly longer um and 316 317 um total distance with both of those golf balls as well so again very very good numbers but I said that we were going to hit some as well at a slower

Swing speed which is really what Duo soft is aimed at so those of you out there who swing a driver around the sort of 80 to 85 M hour mark which is kind of your average really for a for a club player maybe even a little bit lower

Than that that is what the geosoft golf ball is designed for and when we look at the numbers now so I’ve just picked the staff model golfball as the premium option versus geosoft and we can see here that at that kind of 84 85 miles

Hour mark we can see that the duo soft actually goes a little bit further so um I’ve actually picked up what five five yards um over the the staff model here with with a slight with a the same swing speed so 85 mph with a with a driver

We’re seeing a little bit more carry with the staff model but certainly much higher spin when we’re swinging it at a slower speed so which is is not running out as far whereas now with with Jos soft um at that 85 miles hour we’re seeing lower spin we’re seeing um

Slightly less carry sort of about six yards less but actually loads more run on the golf ball as well so for that type of player who needs that bit more distance but has got quite a slow swing speed looking at the evidence that we’ve seen here josof could be a better ball

For you and obviously it’s half the price of um of the staff model balls that we that we’ve had in this test hopefully you’ve enjoyed it if You’ got any comments pop them in the comment section below if you want to ask anything about golf ball technology or

  1. Great review guys, the Duo suits my game these days. Did you test the Duo+ ? Wilson say it’s the softest ball they produce 🏌🏼🏌🏻‍♂️I’ve not tried it yet!🏌🏻‍♂️

  2. Great review..I have been using the Wilson Staff Duo Soft Spin a three piece ball for the past fewe years. Wilson took them off the market, but I bought 4 doz back then and still game them…Love the feel off the driver and irons and great control on the greens..Too bad they still don't make them….Wilson makes great balls and irons….Thanks…

  3. Wilson balls are as good as anything on the market a bit like there irons you can get 36 staff balls for £76 and duo soft a dozen for £14

  4. Wilson is very innovative! I play the Triad and recently bought some Staff models. I also played the Wilson Zip some. They were surprisingly good for a two piece ball! Thanks for the review

  5. I play the Zip in winter and Staff Model in summer. Will have to try the new Staff Model when it comes out.
