Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Hybrids Review

Ryan tests out the new Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Hybrids testing out the 3 hybrid and 3 HL. The 2024 Paradym hybrid range goes right up to 8 hybrid to replace an 8 iron and the Ai Smoke family also feature the Ai MAX Fast featuring a lighter head to players with slower swing speeds.

Content that hits the channel to help you play more and play better as you can see we’ve got some brand new hybrids to talk about today in the form of the Paradigm AI smoke range from Callaway so many of you out there will have a hybrid

In your bag already and if not one then you may have multiple ones as well this new line of hybrids in the AI smoke range actually goes all the way down to eight hybrid would you believe that replaces obviously an eight ion it’s a little bit stronger in Loft but the ones

We’re going to look at today are the three hybrids Okay so we’ve got AI smoke HL and AI smoke here to test there is also another model in the form of the um the max fast that is available in the hybrid fairway wood and Driver which is a lightweight version of these lighter

Weight shaft to really help you increase head speed and also maybe get a little bit more ball speed as well for that player that needs that little bit lighter weight Golf Club so your seniors ladies of this world that may need that little bit more help as well so let’s

Talk about the tech of these hybrids okay so in both of these the HL and the standard AI smoke we’re going to see um the new AI smart face technology now this AI smart face is basically Callaway collecting loads of data from lots of different types of golfer and inputting

It into their AI supercomputer at Callaway HQ and it comes out with lots of different designs and iterations of faces as to how to make them hotter on off-center hits and kind of looks at where me and you miss the middle of the face and how to optimize ball flight and

Ball speed and trajectory on those off-center shots okay this kind of family that AI smoke is really the biggest selling point of that is that is that face technology okay we’re going to see and this is compared to last year’s models significant ball speed and distance increases on heel and toe

Strikes particularly which is where most of us would tend to miss the middle of the club face okay obviously the centered strikes they’re going to go a little bit further as well but those ones we catch out the bottom of the face or at the top the spin is going to be

Slightly better and everything about the way this has been designed is trying to Aid me and you to play better golf okay we’ve got the adjustability here as well so we’re able to move the Loft up by two degrees down by one and also uh put a

Bit of draw bias in there should we want to uh in these models we’ve also got um this tungsten speed cartridge in the bottom bottom of each hybrid so basically what that’s doing is improving feel but also moving the CG slightly lower and deeper so we should lower some

Of the spin and may even lower some of the launch on these as well because the players that these hybrids are aimed at really are that type of player who hits down on the ball a lot maybe hits across the line of it a bit as well and creates

Lots of spin so these are going to try and help control that as well so we might see these actually fly a little bit lower than previous hybrids that we’ve seen from Callaway we’ve also got a slightly larger profile so it kind of suits that player who wants that

Ultimate forgiveness sits a little bit bigger behind the ball adds to a bit of confidence and hopefully is going to help you hit it a little bit more out the sweet spot so we’re going to put them through their Paces now we’re going to hit some on the track man we’re going

To get all the data and talk to you a little bit about it as we do it right so the first one we’re going to hit is the HL in the AI smoke hybrid okay so this is the one that should launch a little bit higher should be the most forgiving

Of the two hybrids as well has that little bit of offset in the neck there must say when sitting it down doesn’t really appeal to the eye to me but it’s not really aimed at me so let’s have a few hits with it and see exactly how it

Performs I me it certainly feels powerful off the face pretty straight as well nowhere near as high as I was expecting it to go I mean looking at that that’s much lower than I’ve ever hit a Hybrid I think in my life 77 ft is pretty pretty low for me to be honest

You know that tungsten speed cartridge that’s in there is designed to try and sort of lower the the spin and and launch a little bit because that sort of player that is normally using a club like this hits quite steeply down on it as you can see I’m quite shallow when I

Hit in it and and the spin’s going to come out fairly low anyway and the launch probably isn’t going to be that high but yeah in terms of sort of looks behind the ball it’s not really my cup of tea but but like I say it’s it’s aimed at a completely different player

But in terms of feel it’s very very powerful off the face and very easy to use right let’s move on to the standard version of it as well so the AI smoke hybrid again in this three hybrid same Loft at 18° we’ve still got that same adjustability looks a little bit

Different though okay we don’t have that kind of offset um sort of profile in the neck there when you sit it down behind the ball does look a little bit nicer just looks like a a high lofted kind of Fairway Wood obviously just slightly smaller head let’s give it a bit of a

Hit again feels really powerful off the face flights a little bit higher a little bit little bit more of a draw on it than the other one which I wasn’t expecting but like I say in terms of that sort of feel that we get off the

Club face it feels a lot more soft the many hybrids that I’ve used before I actually quite like it it it again flies much lower than I was expecting to that again at 71 ft this time this it’s almost like a driving iron kind of really nice low flight which I was not

Expecting from this Golf Club at all I have to say the shaft that I’ve got in this feels a bit soft for me as well but we can see in terms of the shots that we’re hitting um we’re getting decent flight there it’s easy to

Use like I say the strike feels nice and solid and it’s definitely doing something different to some hybrids that I’ve used before so now we’ve had chance to hit both of the hybrids let’s take a bit of a look at the performance so in terms of distance very very impressive I

Mean the um both they’re pretty much identical if we look at here so 230 carry with both 255 uh total with both ball speeds exactly the same spins are very very close certainly nothing to split them really but in terms of the shots we were hitting as you can see there with the

Dispersions as well I’ve just hit a couple with the standard AI smoke that have gone a little bit further right but what I would comment on is how low they went really 77 ft and 76 ft is pretty low for I mean that’s lower than any

Iron that I’ve got in my bag I mean even my three iron would Peak at nearly 100 feet so um it’s significantly lower so I don’t know whether that’s something in the design that Callaway have tried to do to stop them kind of climbing and going too high to actually get a little

Bit more down range um distance really for that player who you know there’s loads of people I teach that hit down on it so severely that the ball just goes so high spins so much it just doesn’t go anywhere and maybe this type of hybrid for that type of player would suit them

Pretty well be interesting to try but it’s definitely one that if you’re that player who does spin the ball a lot and tends to sort of chop under it a little bit one get some lessons but two maybe these hybrids could help you um to improve your ball flight a little bit

But certainly it’s not a club that I have in the bag at the moment a hybrid and it’s not one that particularly I’ve got on with that well in the past but these were extremely easy to hit and I was just really Blown Away by the kind

Of sort of piercing trajectory I was getting with them I wasn’t expecting that at all normally when I hit hybrids they just go straight up in the air and generally left these didn’t do either of those things which is quite a promising thing I think for for a hybrid and
