Hi there everybody Mar teaching professional at cic Park Golf Club January it’s not that cold but it’s certainly been very very wet and that means that we haven’t played much golf I certainly haven’t played much um unless you’re a midweek golfer you probably won’t be playing much through January
And February either till you know this light is slowly starting to come back now so really what this video is about is what I think you should be concentrating on in January and what you should be doing at home probably if you can’t get up to the club too much so one
Of my things is doesn’t matter how good you are or when you started Golf your static positions can be as good as anyone and and I’m one of my probably newest resolutions is stopped comparing people to or using tour players as a guide because they are freaks of nature
They’re the 1% of the 1% of the world’s golfers which are just beyond belief at that point of impact so but what we can do is copy their static positions we might not be a to swing be like them we might not be a be as athletic as them we
Might not be able to get into the positions that they can but our static positions we can so that I’m talking about grip setup posture ball position those sort of things want to start in January home leave a around the house start picking up and working on your
Grip if you feel like there’s a weakness in your grip and I’m talking about small incremental changes when you come to play it’s very hard for me to come to golf list someone’s got a really bad grip for me to quit change it to this perfect neutral grip because you will
Already struggle cuz it’ll feel so alien so before you even hit a ball if you can get this feeling really natural in your hands then that will make a real difference so one of my things I always pick it up first with my left hand whatever I’m doing I get get it feeling
In those fingers and my thumb in that correct position you can quite you can quite often do that you’ll see some of the tour players are starting that in the hand so let’s not go into huge detail about grip cuz there’s plenty of stuff online with your grip but let’s make sure that
It’s through your fingers it’s not too tight start working on some grip pressure and grip tension because there’s no ball there there’s no need for you to sort of clamp up and feel like you got to hit anything hard so through your fingers nice and light and
I think as you look down at your hands here you want to be able to see those things that you will read about and that I’ve put out in the past about how many Knuckles You’ be able to see of each hand and especially this V at the bottom
Here this thumb and first finger of your bottom hand if you can start to fill that into your fingers and get that little vshape make sure you got a get bit of a gap at the end as well you know I like about an inch space for my little
Finger to the butt end of the club because that secures it at the top of your swing and leave that club around the house keep picking it up and be really diligent on where you put your fingers and your grip pressure so nice and light I mean I know I’ve said before
I’m supposed to refer to this as the hold not the grip so hold makes sense because you don’t want to grip it too tight so work on that that and then maybe use your phone or the reflection in a mirror or the patio window I don’t know something you can see your posture
And setup position so cycle through this little thing in your head aim which will be aim of your Club head so you won’t have much to aim at but aim grip ball position so what start working on ball position you know I teach a varying ball
Position where nine pitch sand or in the middle and everything works its way up to your left heel with your driver then sometimes we can play with left heel you know move it up a bit forward depends whether but pick your Club up maybe it’s
Your seven ey a little bit of left of center and start working on your static position and your posture so if you can see yourself in a reflection you can get this little bit of flex in your knees feet the same distance apart as your shoulders chin up bum out a little bit
Nice straight back and see if you’re looking in the mirror at this what looks like quite an athletic position if you if I can tell you know roughly someone’s handicapped by if they sort of get up to the ball and they’re round shouldered hands close to their body unathletic looking you’re not going
To make a great swing from that position so start to practice this aim grip ball position set up stance and Alignment posture just check everything feet knees hips and shoulders are they all aligned have you got any a little bit skew WID here put some clubs down on the ground
Make a little grid work on your ball position with another line or alignment stick so you’ve got this real Mantra of a static position which is really good and every time you’ll get up to the ball when you come to start playing again regularly you’ll know how that feels cuz
It’s only muscle memory um yeah so that’s that one little thing and I’m going to give you one little mini drill I really like at home and it needs a tea tow it means you can swing a cloth or your Club head or your you know bag tow
Cloth let me just grab this little tea towy thing Okay the reason why I like this drill I hope I can do this in the wind out here but it’s something you can do at home it’s something you can do with just hanging about with a it puts a
Lot of things right this one small little bit of cloth okay so you want it hanging down and hold the end in your grip in the setup position we’ve just talked about and on your back swing you need to drop it on your shoulder I hope
I can do this with the wind we’re about to find out okay so if you drop that onto your right shoulder you’re doing a lot right for example okay right so it gives you a bit of path and a bit of feedback around that right so one now you’re in this
Position this is where the magic might be able to happen for you when you come to play you’re going to feel like you’re pulling down and you’ve got to finish with that on your other shoulder looks quite easy and if you’re not doing that then you’re doing
Something wrong and all you need is a bit of cloth or or a towel to do those things gives you um speed through the ball to drop it on that other shoulder like if you’ve got a big cast say you’ll sort of drop it around there so that
Will be going straight down its line and dropping on there so the little te tow drill do that in January work on your static positions and if you got any questions I’m definitely going to be a available to answer them for you because I don’t you want to be that busy so uh
Anyone wants evening golf lessons Tuesdays and Thursday evenings for me indoors in the simulator and I’m available the rest of the week see you all soon thanks for Watching
