Beautiful example of golf swing MATCHUPS ⬇️
Jon Rahm gets the club inside early and “lays it off” or points the club left of his target at the top with lots of lead wrist flexion
This essentially gets the clubhead well behind him or in a “shallow” position
BECAUSE his backswing is short (trail foot mobility issues) this works BEAUTIFULLY to get the club in a shallow position.
If he aligned the club more conventionally (down the line) at the top, the club wouldn’t have enough time to shallow due to how short the backswing actually is.
Summary 📖 Short backswings can work with laid off club alignments at the top. If your backswing is longer and you lay the club off, you may see it steepen in transition and be required to make compensations from there to shallow it back out.
