[Kathryn] Some people love the beauty of a golf course.
Others love the challenge of a game.
Some people love that they get to spend time
with their friends or family.
And I love all those things too
but, for me, what I really love
is deciding what to wear to play golf.
Most golf courses have dress codes.
Remember, that if you’re heading out to play,
generally accepted clothing
includes collared polos, dress shorts, skorts,
dress pants and sweaters, pullovers, jackets
in the colder months.
And you might think these clothing requirements
are old-fashioned or a turn off
but keep in mind, golf has come a long way.
Players used to wear ties and dress shirts.
Can you imagine?
Dress codes have actually relaxed quite a bit.
At public courses, you’re almost always in the clear,
even if you’re wearing cargo shorts
and an untucked shirt.
At private clubs, men have to tuck in their shirts
and woman, well,
let’s just say that short shirts and skorts
might get flagged as a legal procedure.
So, if you want my advice,
wear something that’s comfortable,
breathes well and looks nice.
You’re not dressing for the beach,
the gym or the night club.
That being said, put some of your own personality
into the outfit.
If you’re bold, go with vibrant colors and fun shoes.
If you’re shy and reserved,
dress like you’re heading to a nice waterside restaurant.
You get the idea.
Leave the t-shirts, athletic jerseys,
gym clothes and jeans
for whatever you’re doing after the round.
As far as shoes, sneakers are okay
but there’s so many cool styles of golf shoes now,
you’re really missing out if you don’t have
a cool pair of kicks.
And hats?
Well, caps are fine.
Wear them brim forward, though,
if you’re going to a private club.
Other types of hats are fine too,
including skull caps.
But not the helmet that holds beer cans
and a cowboy hat,
it might interfere with your swing.
Just saying.
