Casey Edwards is the new Barren County girls’ golf coach 122723

Casey Edwards, who won four state titles in high school at Glasgow, Kentucky, is the new girls’ golf coach at Barren County.

Right I am here with Casey Edwards you are the new again girls golf coach at baring County High School uh after so long away from coaching at least as a head coach why did you decide to come back now um I come to help last year a

Little bit get them in some tournaments and um help with with several playing and um I really enjoyed getting back in the game um I’d always kept up with it um and I I’ve enjoyed getting back um around high school girls golf well and you have a little bit of experience with

It I think you on four state championship teams at Glasgow so you kind of have an idea at least what it takes to be a really good golf team yes um we played from 97 to 2000 uh we won state championship um it was a lot of fun um some of my best

Friends came from golf um and it it’s it’s it’s a it’s a great sport it’s lifelong sport um so I’m hoping that we can build that program at Baron well and you’ve got a good young group that everybody will be back and you guys were one of the teams that were expected to

Compete for the region last year yes um we finished third the last couple years at Region um it’s it’s a very tough region in the state um Bowling Green and South Warren are both really strong there’s a couple more teams that are really coming on um but we’re right in

There at it um definitely got the potential to win a Regional Championship yeah now what is it the particular experience- wise that that you bring to it that you think you can partake to the players um high school girls golf has changed a lot it has went from a lot of

Matches to now it’s a lot of 18 hole tournaments um and I think just getting them um the opportunity to play in those um we kind of uped it last year to where we played in about 11 we’re hoping to up that even more this year um um they did

Make all state which is the top 15 teams in the state last year um and that’s definitely a goal again this year um to where it truly takes the top 15 not just a couple from each region um and that was a big deal for us is there anything

Particular for you as a coach that you try to get the players to work on to improve their games as individuals and then as a team um I I think getting the experience is Big um they got exposed to a lot of tournaments last year we’re

Going to work on getting them in some a lot of them in some summer tournaments to where they’ve got that exposure over the summer going into High School fall season um and then just you know working on obviously short games a big deal in golf and getting them better there um

And that will help us improve take time well obviously your daughter will be a senior this coming year so uh did that also influence you on wanting to do this um yes it’s it’s been fun kind of watching her um she’s that never loved golf until here recently and

She’s kind of um really kind of got into it and got a lot better um but I want to see it grow not only with who we have we have nine returning um but I want to see it grow with the younger um kids as well and get more middle school and even

Younger kids involved well until uh South Warren’s little run there uh Baron I think had won two or two in a row uh Regional championships is what it was uh how how close you think this group is of being able to get back to that um I I

Think we’ve definitely got the potential to do that um it’s it’s just you know it’s one round um and if we if we show up and play that day I think I think we’ve definitely got a shot at it um we’ve got everybody returning and um from last year so we’ve got the

Experience to go with it now too anything else you want people to know um we’re just excited um to get the season going um and if you’re interested in playing girl golf um then let me know all right thank you
