HOME GK TRAINING: Dealing with Cut backs – Diving out for Low & High Crosses, Shots at Near Post

Today we worked on dealing with cut-backs from the by-line, which can be shots at your near post or crosses to the back post.

The drills we did start with simple shots on the ground to the near post, getting used to the action of scooping up and collapse diving. Then we progressed onto volleys to deal with higher shots, moving further and further away, adding more power. The next progression was to add more movement for the goalkeeper, turning out from the middle of the goal to replicate the ball being passed from the edge of the 18 yard box to the winger who cuts the ball back across the goal. The final progression was to replicate a deep corner or cross from one side of the goal to the other. This requires more movement from the goalkeeper, using bigger footwork to get across the goal into smaller footwork into the set position before the strike. We worked both sides obviously. I hope you enjoy it…
