2021 Victorian Golf Croquet Men & Women’s Championships Saturday 27 November 2021 video 01

Hosted at the Victorian Croquet Centre Cairnlea Victoria Australia video 01 of play on Saturday 27 November 2021

And she did need to make that clearance she did need to make that clearance because the play in this game that golf croak is strictly in color sequence of the balls red plays before black and although yellow is another opponent ball yellow wouldn’t have played before the black ball ela’s put

Her black ball in a position where it might just be partly hidden from yellow what do you think I think he would have been trying to hide it from yellow but that didn’t quite work and Helen just electing to shift it just a little she didn’t even

Attempt to to move that one right out of position because of course red will play before black plays again so red has an opportunity to clear the black ball first and she does looks like there going to be a bit of a battle here for a while because um

Although yellow could possibly run the poop it’s at an an awkward angle so Elaine is just putting in another ball there is a worry of course that Helen can get it into the jaws and then there’s really no answer for elang ho run by Helen that makes the score 2-1

To her and that was yellow so the next four to play will be blue elen will be trying to get a good position down at h four now we were getting a lot of background noise there it was people out on the balcony who are watching from the the

Balcony in the same place as the cameras it’s a terrific spot to watch from we’ve got cameras on the balcony as well as a a moving camera which you’ll see there behind Helen and that gives us those wonderful camera angles so we can really see what’s going on Awkward shot

That one for Helen because she didn’t have much of a back swing she handled that well though Kate do you think yes beautiful hoop I’m just going to see if I can find a new position to do the commentary because there’s too much noise here there’s a couple of choices here for

Helen she she could choose to take position close or she could decide to try to move one of elain’s balls but she’s she saying that she thinks elain can probably not run the hoop from that distance so she’ll just put a ball in looking at that I think elen’s

Deciding that she will have a go at the hope she’s very good at this she’s about three yards out the wind will interfere with this a little bit though so she’s taking a bit of time she’s a very cautious player but very very skilled that was a good shot very good

Shot how far do you think that was Kate it’s about three yards I think Kate must still be looking for a spot nicely placed ball from Helen and aline’s just answering with another ball that’s a possible Runner but a little bit angly she’s deciding then that if yellow can run the hoop

She’s going to have to move it with black the balls are played in order blue red black yellow so if black doesn’t move yellow and it’s in hoop running position well Helen has a free shot at the hoop and a very nice clearance quite a long shot for elain and very very well

Done yellow next to play yellow’s likely to come back into hook running position but a cautious spot because blue can’t run at the moment cautious spot a little bit further away making it more difficult for El to clear that ball nice clearance on red you do walk quite

A long way when you’re playing golf Croy both these ladies have been um playing golf croak for long enough to become extremely skilled but Aline is actually the more experienced player and uh this year Helen was selected to play in the Victorian State team elen and Helen have previously only

Played each other twice with a win of one game each so Kate Are you a able to join the commentary now or you still having trouble with the audio okay looks like we’re still looking for a solution for that so that’s just me answering now oh a beautiful hoop run from Helen

Through five all the way up to reasonable position on six and elon’s got a rather awkward shot there with the hoop a little bit hampering her not enough to need to call the referee but still she makes the most of that almost landed in the jaws of

Six Helen still with the upper hand here with two balls on the playing side of the hoop and Red’s in good position and it looks like she may have have got a position hidden from Blue which leaves elain having to clear that red one with the black that was a lovely shot she’s

Managed to interfere with it I can’t quite see if red still has a shot but certainly she have to be very careful when she plays it that she doesn’t disturb the black ball as well just a possibility of a fault there oh reasonable attempt at the hook but

Just an unlucky bounce out I don’t know if elang can get that red ball with blue though I think it might be wired score it 51 that’s um very big advantage that Helen now has Elan opting to come in through the back of the hoop oh okay you’re ready to communicate

Now that’s terrific this this game has been a little a little bit one-sided here has blue come through from the back yes Blue’s through from the back that time she couldn’t see red Helen had that hidden when El Lane five up there the ball just slid past the hoop and Helen

Was able to come in and hide from the blue but now she’s opting to to clear the black she must have decided that uh she can’t do the jump from there with black so close as a referee you’d have a comment to make about that

Shot I guess we would want to have it watched if if they hadn’t gone at such a very different angles um you would think they were very close could have been what we call a double tap where the ball bounces off the ball that you’re hitting and hits the Mallet

Twice can I just correct the score I think the score should be 4-11 um because we’re on hoop six here oh yes thank you still it’s um it’s quite a nice advantage to Helen but of course the games this Kevin says the game’s not over till the balls are in the box and

It’s uh and four 41 and Elaine of course can’t run the hoop from that position because it’s coming from the back yes every hoop has a running side if you’re not on the running side you can’t run the hoop so we go R clockwise first and then anticlockwise Elaine has just nudged her

Blue ball onto the running side in a actually quite a difficult position for Helen to dislodge it yes there is an opportunity for Helen to jump with her yellow Ball but of course Elan will probably be thinking that she’ll move yellow so it can’t jump

No no no she’s given her a Chan of the jump I think you tried to just gently nudge it or get in the way of yellow it looks as if she’s trying a clearance rather than a jump usually you’d expect the referee to be called to watch a jump it’s actually

Really difficult to tell whether it goes through or not if you’re not standing directly in a line with the hoop we can’t see from this angle at all I wonder if the no that was an attemp clearance that didn’t happen certainly didn’t so Eline can bring bring the score back to

Two4 Blue to play next so that was Helen’s attempt to stop that and unfortunately for her that didn’t work and through it goes they’re now running across to hoop seven and um Helen has first shot at that the players are constantly feel in with their hats the wind must really be bothering

Them yes Helen particularly she’s got a strap under her chin I’ve noticed but she’s still feeling her hat is about to blow off that’s a good shot Kate gives her good running position and it’s on the the short what do you call the short side of the hoop

So if it is cleared it can’t be cleared too far but that is a very nice block uh you wonder whether if Helen were an association player she could send black some distance and red actually towards the hoop what do you think trishy you’re an association player she certainly

Could but we don’t we’re assuming that red and black are in contact if they are in contact yes she could do that if they’re not in contact is the danger of a fault so she’s looking as so that they are not touching balls she’s hitting at an

Angle and one of those very angled clearances which is quite safe from being called as a double tap yes it it’s safe but it doesn’t it doesn’t help when your own ball has to travel a long way away as well absolutely so we’re now in a situation

Where elen has two balls close to the hurt and Helen’s are further away so even though yellow’s next to play if if she can’t get it in the Jaws she can’t stop blue she’s she’s going to try for the Jaws I think not an easy shot

No it does look as if blue might do an in off here if Blue’s still there yes oh yes of course Blue’s still there she’s next to play she might do or you could just clear it if she hits to dead center it won’t travel very far

So that would be handy she still be there well she’s certainly much closer than yellow Helen has the long walk again but she’s got to say red first Red’s the one that went over to the other boundary with the clearance that she made and there is black in a very nice

Position was but not now lovely lovely seven yard clearance or eight eight yards perhaps it was on an angle very solid but black will come back blue plays before red Black’s come back maybe a little too far little too far but but um even if blue was to clear red It could only

Clear it to the south bound North Boundary so that wouldn’t be very far away I think perhaps elain’s decided yellow is the bigger challenge yes she’s decided to block yellow beautiful block the um game of golf croak is all about the tactics about making the right choice because the

Balls have to be played in order isn’t it and there’s often two or three possibilities once you’ve decided what you’re going to do you just have to try to execute it as best you can so this is a challenge isn’t it what does elain do does she think that yellow

Will jump blue it’s blocked by blue but then Helen hasn’t jumped on the two or three occasions she’s had a chance if she moves yellow a little bit it might have more chance of the hoop I think elain’s thinking of hitting yellow fairly hard no no oh well she wasn’t happy with it

That little little jump that she does when she’s not happy um the wind would have taken that you saw it curve across there we are that’s the avoidance of the jump yes it was fairly close to Blue though it’s not so easy to jump when the balls are so close together she she

Maybe wasn’t confident with that so we have black again on the wrong side of the hoop and red is placed very carefully I think so that when black comes through if it goes straight through red will be very red and yellow either red or yellow could clear

It so elain trying another another block to stop yellow from interfering with blue it looks like Helen’s electing to shift black into the wrong position no there we go has very I’m not guessing very well what what tactics these ladies are going to employ um Helen surprise me

Then she was perhaps trying to do a bombard with black so black to hit um blue oh elain’s missed that hoop um we should have Elaine showing us two Hoops it should be 4 two Helen just taking position again with red and now black to play Black

Won’t be thinking she needs to clear that red one because blue although it plays first will be already cleared by yellow Elan taking two or three goes at lining this up obviously the wind’s bothering her and it isn’t an easy clearance but it’s one that she will

Have done many times but it’s it is an important one and she did that’s lovely so now yellow in perfect H running position but um blue opting to attempt to block my goodness that curved around yes I think red was attempting to block blue shot on yellow they’re all clustering around the hoop

Here Ela deciding that um yellow has to go and that’s a nice shot she got a good angle on that so that black has remained in the right area for running the hoop but yellow is travel quite a distance across the boundary what do you think about the

Position of blue I don’t think blue can run the hoop it could go into the hoop it looks as it will be quite difficult for Helen to clear it without just pushing it into the hoop yes it it is an awkward shot for her but she certainly looks like she’s going to

Have to deal with blue so she’s maybe it’s a bit of hidden hope if if you hit it you hope that you don’t hit it directly into the jaws of course if you were trying to do it it wouldn’t work so maybe that’s what’ll happen it’ll go somewhere else and it

Does very nice shot and with red being next to play after blue elain will now need to clear the red there’s been a lot of interchange at this hope that was not what she wanted the immediate day danger of red running the hopers yeah I wonder if there’s a little bit of

Room for elain to to get into the hoop here looks as if that’s what she’s trying for no clearance on red so I’m going to step back now um because we have Kevin mlin from New South Wales just coming off uh New South Wales semifinal

In their golf cro open and um he’s going to join as the second commentator I’ll see you later oh thank you K okay byebye hello Kevin hello Trisha how are you oh it’s so nice to hear your voice because you having such trouble with the audio so welcome to

Kenley thank you very much it’s been a fascinating game to watch and uh I do note that having played at Canley before the uh the wind is definitely affecting the decisions that uh these two ladies are making when sometimes it would appear to us that they would take this

Shot you know jump for example or an easy clearance they’re electing to go for maybe a safer option due to the wind what what are your thoughts Trisha I definitely think that the wind is affecting them I I just thought I was guessing badly about what they might do

But maybe they’re making sensible decisions based on the Wind yeah and you can see some of the uh the balls that they’re putting in you know when the ball’s traveling maybe five yards there’s a huge curve and I don’t think that’s due to the uh the law

And I think the wind is playing a huge uh part of the part of the decision making for the both both the players this morning it’s very frustrating when the wind gets in amongst it as well you’ve already got to contend with an opponent shifting your walls around and then you

Have to contend with the wind so I I don’t end than this yeah I guess the equalent factor there is that they both have to contend with the win so it doesn’t favor anyone but uh you know sometimes that win can work to your advantage and uh if you

Take that into a contention uh with some of those long shots then um yeah you can certainly use it to to your own advantage that’s for sure I noticed that time elan’s back swing hit the um the pipes there only plastic pipes um pinned down to stop the

Balls traveling on to the other other courts and interfering with the other games but that that did hit her back swing and and she missed miss the clearance this time she’s going to move the peg to clip the get tce yeah so an important clearance here on on

Red um with both red and yellow directly in front of the the hoop and a good hoop running position she needs to make this clearance lovely she does yes lovely shot so red will just come back in now and again have two balls in front of

That hoop uh with black of course being over near uh near hoop three in the far corner there so it’ll be a I would imagine just putting black in amongst the balls there or possibly trying to clear yellow H blue being closer it’s um got an easier clearance but both balls look

Like they’re in hoop running position so Eli might have to opt to attempt clearances with both black and blue in order to get back in the game at this poop yeah yeah so again she’s just putting the ball in there I think she was hoping that to possibly get a block on yellow

There there but uh as you can see yellow’s in a very strong position here and hopefully she’ll run hoop seven uh with enough conviction to take it down to hoop eight no never mind the only saving grace there is that yellow’s still next to the

Hoop so it’s it’s still in a quite a powerful position but um El Lane looks as she’s I imagine would be trying to clear red now given the fact that’s also in a very strong POS position yes I think that this is I must do this one El does use some blocks quite

Efficiently a lot of the time but she’s very good at clearances and that one is excellent because blue is still on the planing side and in running position if necessary of course got so we’ll see what she does with her black I think Kevin she she might be

Um making sure that Red’s not there but since blue plays before red she doesn’t actually have to clear that red one now right she’s decided not to yeah I think uh yellow will probably just take stop shot black away here’s the con most golf so here’s the conundrum that most

Golf C players face numerous times throughout a game do I temp the hoop or do I clear the following ball and it looks as though she may be trying to run that hoop no she went for a clearance was unlucky unlucky and that was very unlucky because with red

Now due to run the hoop blue will be offside if red sa Helen has her right hand very low on the mallet um I thought that might have been because of the wind yeah you often find when players do use that split grip um May it may not be their preferred

Grip but if they they lower hand does travel further down the the the handle it I guess it gives him a bit more of a sense of control um I’m not sure whether that’s her normal grip I’m assuming it is she’s been using it throughout this game and

Anyway um that’s a nice that’s a nice shot there with with yellow is red is poised to clear black uh and of course blue is right the way down the other uh up near corner corner two there Helen’s had a couple of um near misses on what looked like relatively

Easy hoop running shots so um it’s given elen another Cher at getting back into this hope um we we really were thinking that Helen would have run that one and and an earlier one so she’d be disappointed to hit the leg on those yeah most certainly most certain

But sometimes they’re those one yarders are the tricky ones aren’t they they’re the ones you’ve got to give as much attention to as uh you know running a seven yard hoop um yes and give give that shot the respect it deserves yes and even in that clearance um red is

No longer in a h running position and and black is still on has a better line so um she didn’t manage to shift the black far enough away no no well Black’s looking to clear yellow here which will uh set blue up for a a potential hope depending on how far yellow

Goes and how quickly the change over happens if if this clearance works you back are in control yes blink of an eye often you think you’re in total control of a hoop with both your balls there all of a sudden within the next minute both the opposition balls are in

Control of the hoop so and this is why it’s vital you know once you do have a hoop running position to to capitalize on that and try and run those Hoops um it’s it’s so important to do oh loveely CL yes a very good answer from Helen and

The women are playing a double round robin over these two days so we will see elain playing Helen again tomorrow uh today each of the women and there are five one two three six of them in this event each of them will play the other today and then again

Tomorrow oh I see that’s good bit of a feeling out process possibly for the first game the me the men’s event is um two two blocks and um the blockin is will play off so there’s plenty of copy to be viewed over the next two days um each

Day we start the broadcast at 10: so we’ll miss the first round of each day and then um we’ll go through till around three so we’ll probably miss the last round of the day as well but we’re hoping to to be able to bring you some really good golf croaky matches in that

Time that’s terrific Still Still jockeying for position of hoop seven this has been a long one lots of interchange it’s been a very uh very long hoop that numerous attempts on the hoop but n successful yet Blue’s hoping to clear and you can just see the wind there and how strong

That is Shifting the uh the black dividers there and you can see the clothes uh moving about quite a bit so I think Blue’s trying to clear red here okay so miss red and Red’s obviously going to move black away and leave yellow for yet another attempt at the

Hoop so this one you you think that you’ll be trying to that’s it trying to hit black on the left of the ball so that black moves further away than red that was a lovely beautifully executed clearance there it was indeed yeah yep so there

Was no point hitting it head on it would have just just pushed it to the uh closer boundary wouldn’t leaving another seven yard clearance but as you can see she’s a a few further yards away making it a bit more difficult in the uh in the conditions as well to

Um try and clear yellow and when the ball goes across the line on golf croak games they returned to the spot where they crossed the line and played from there and both of Al balls are now on the line so she’s taking quite a considerable amount of time here trying

To line this one up yes so is a fairly important jot this again could be the shot where her opponent runs the hope if she doesn’t clear it and a near Miss but still a Miss leaving yellow an opportunity to run the hope to go 52 ahead yeah it’ll be interesting to see

Whether Helen decid to try and run that hoop or to uh to jaws of course on the uh the odd number hoops and seven being one it’s a good idea if you can to try and jaw that ball depending on where your opponent’s balls are uh leaving her with an opportunity

To not only win hoop seven but to to run up to hoop eight and be first to the next hoop that would be a good move no she’s decided yeah just going run the hoop yes prob a wise move two yellow Clips on that hoop she’s

B that hoop as hoop two running south to North and there’s hoop seven running north to south so elain is first shot down to hoop eight oh she’s overhead that just unfortunate yes yes you don’t really want to be on the opposite side on the non-playing side

If um it gives your opponent an opportunity to place the ball wide as we say in front of the you can see there a position on the other side where yellow red could have landed and blue would be unable to change that position so black coming in and that’s

Approach black perfectly set to run the hope at the moment and yellow look at the curve on that one it’s quite significant wasn’t it so as you can see with blue gone past the hoop Red’s opted to uh to to stay quite away from the hoop so as to uh

Lesser the chance that blue will clear red and blue is just come in for a little sneaky block there so I would imagine red would clear black now and leaving yellow to to do the same to Blue nice clearance she does and do you think elain now Will

Will just fire up to clear yellow oh there that’s certainly an option um I think looking at the way the the ladies have been playing I think she’ll probably just put the ball in the hoop running position and you you’re right and a little bit longish position

So that it doesn’t make it too easy for red to clear it yep it’s a nice clearance blue can come back yellow’s still staying around the poop so that made it a nice clearance so it’ be a good idea if blue can try and put a little Block in

Between red and black there which it looks like she’s trying to do well you called it yes well just a tad short but uh that’s still a good spot to be in ah look at the little insert on the screen you can really see the position of those fors now that’s a nice

Clearance that’s very well done and of course Helen now in a position to clear blue with yellow yes yes indeed blast just going to put it back in the mix she’s managed a lovely on yellow she has yeah yeah that’s very clever very clever from that her options here

Yeah yeah so options there would be to come in and put a little blocking on Blue on the hoop or there’s a potential she could jump black and clear blue away but she’s going to go for a little block on the The Hoop she hasn’t jumped very well haven’t

Seen her attempt to jump so far so she may not be feeling it’s necessary to try it for that situation she might consider a jump to a hoop but El now the block being unsuccessful elain has a chance at the H oh very nice there we Goot

35 there’s been quite a at but not that time yes yeah that was that was a nice hoop um and just talking about those jumps that’s and that’s not a a skill that all players have you know some people find the jump terribly difficult to do um but it’s it’s a wonderful skill

To have in your your kit bag if uh if you can if you can do a jump it uh it really puts um the pressure on your opposition uh particularly if they know you can jump um yeah like I said not a skill that all players have yes the the weapon

Of block is no good if uh your opponent has the weapon of jump correct correct it’s a very powerful tool to possess so does red go for the hoop now I I would certainly hope so she’s in a good hoop running position but it looks as though she’s electing to be

Safe and just stops her black away she may have found that it was hampering her her stance for running the H it might have been a little bit close for comfort with the stance or with the back swing I couldn’t quite pick it with the angle But and it looks as like black will beting the hoop here that’s a free shot I can do that that’s right yeah that was the danger stop shotting well that’s right it’s it’s the bread and butter it’s it’s you know these seven yard shots uh uh you know you should be

Making them more often than not well certainly indicating to your opponent that you you’ll do it oh the the left leg there it was what we call a free shot because um yes the the other ball uh red wasn’t due to play next and if yellow chooses to clear blue she’ll

Still maybe have to clear red but um there hasn’t been a lot of really aggressive play in this match a lot of a lot of caution yes I agree they’re they’re both ering on the side of uh the caution Road just opting for the safer shot rather than

Uh like you said being a more aggressive again there’s another example just putting a little Block in as opposed to clearing red so red really should be going for that hoop now as you can see with the inset there see that yes the inset gives us the line on

The fact that um red can see the hoop yellow can see the hoop and red can see blue and oh dear that wasn’t a very good result for red cuz she she didn’t manage the clearance she’s put Blue in yellow’s way and Blue’s in h running position that’s right that’s right so

What would you be doing here oh I think black will just bump yellow away to the boundary and sh more than likely has even got uh black blocking the hoop and of course blue blocking the hoop so it’s unlikely that be interesting to see whether yellow can see blue she

Needs to clear blue that’s for sure black could be given her a few issues there as Well so with this poop could possibly be giving us a more of a oh what happened then well I think a combination of the uh the wind and the lawn the the ball almost did a 90 degree turn to the right so Blue’s got a bit of a hampered shot

Here so the ref referee should be coming out yes they both calling for the ref um this will be an interesting shot to watch but a lovely ball in there with the the yellow I’m not I think she got a bit lucky there but you take the Lu but you get

It yes gosh that that did surprise me I I didn’t think she had any answer to that no no it was a almost a right angle that yellow Ball come in and nuzzled in Behind Blue here’s referee this is um John vandit John’s been doing some coaching

In bort over the last two days as part of the new um player development project that we’ve been doing with K Victoria John’s an experienced coach and player as well as referee and referee trainer no wonder we couldn’t see the camera had look that oh dear that was a great replay a strange

Situation elain very carefully taking that shot because of course there was a risk of a fault there if her Mallet had touched the yellow ball as well or if there was a double tap if blue had been interrupted by yellow and El Smet caught up with it and hit it

Again so Helen trying to block black on yellow yes unsuccessful so it looks as though black will now be clearing yellow lovely camera shot there yes the the roving camera down there on the court adds a lot doesn’t that because we’ve got the overhead cameras looking from the balcony as

Well gives you a great angle that’s a nice clearance so it’s she don’t I don’t think she’ll be able to see a great deal of blue there so our option really is to come through the back door there and try and uh either clear or or just nuzzle into

The the back of the hoop making Blue’s uh attempt on the hoop a bit more difficult and somewhat hampered another great camera angle as you can see there that the leg is right in the way so she may be able to go to the right of the leg

There as you can see probably about a quarter of the ball unlucky unlucky and I think that Ball’s pretty much sitting smack bang in the middle which will allow it to run all the way up to uh to hoop 10 yes and um I I forgot exactly where

Yell and red are but I think perhaps one of them may have a difficult shot to get up oh no that’s that’s right she’s yeah they’re both both got a yeah sometimes they can finish up just on the wrong side but um no she was clear and black has a shorter shot to

Approach from so she should be fairly accurate oh that’s a lovely ball that is so black black now becomes the running ball and blue will become the clearing ball and elain is now only one H behind there 4 five yes yeah she’s caught up nicely there and she’s in a very very strong

Position as well so good clearance here and you can see the position of black on the inset there in lovely spot and a good clearance May yeah makes the shot for red a very long one doesn’t it it does indeed but a a very important clearance attempt coming up

Now as you can see Black’s in a beautiful position oh lovely sh beautiful yes very nice very nice Probably probably wanted to go about another yard or so yeah little bit close to Yellow there it is or maybe even a bit deeper um but of course she’s got the Red Bull to contend with if she went a bit deeper there and Blue’s in a good

Spot there because if yellow does decide to come in and just hug the hoop come in nice and tight blue is in a good spot to uh to get rid of yellow oh she just hiding there nice balling so another attempted clearance on black well not sure whether she was

Aiming for blue or she was just happy to take blue away uh again we’re going very safely here aren’t we and I would have thought she would have gone for that hoop there but electing to to clear yellow instead yes I’m I’m surprised they they’re obviously both of

Them a little worried by the wind and they’re not attemped shot that I would have expected them to do and given that Helen was able to clear from such a distance I’m surprised they’re not aggressive at the Hoops as well yeah yeah it does surprise me a fa bit as well

Nice ball in from Blue there hel has two possible hoop Runners so Helen will have to decide if she thinks they are and she’s assuming now that um black can’t run the hoop and Black’s going to have to clear something black just going to stop shot righted Away and hold position or stay a lot closer to the hook is that is a good shot just looking at the referee of the background there looks like she’s in the Antarctic it must be quite brisky there she’s wrapped up it’s um it’s a long day for a referee

The the job is a long standing in the cold and wind job yes y y hats off to the refs yeah thank you refs all right so elain puts the blue in planning to to clear yellow with the black they seem to be all lined up all

Sorts of dreadful things can happen when you’ve hitting balls that are in a row lot of collateral damage yes the hell Helen shifts attempts to shift elain’s black but fails that time so now elain has to hit this ball on the side or she’s going to clear her own ball as well

This has got to be an accurate shot Kevin it does indeed I think she’s just Working The Angles out now so she needs to hit the ball on the left hand side oh there goes the Hat left hand side yellow away to the boundary and black okay the angles are bit deceiving

There but that was a a very nice shot as you can see in the inset there blue is beautifully positioned so again we’ll have another uh another clearing attempt from uh H from yellow it’s yellow play y she’s just advised her opponent to say it’s yellow to play

So it’s a a bit more than a seven yard clearance but one that players often have to do so we’d expect Helen to hit this ah commentators curse sorry hel um this this is very advantageous for elain because yellow is way over the other side of the Court elen’s going to

Level it up with with this one and yellow will be offside all right five all now we’ve got a game on our hands we have a game after hoop 11 yes nobody seems to be worrying about yellow so yeah I’m not sure if she’s directed how to put yellow in the penalty

Area it is a long way in either positions so she may not because the shot from the penalty area is one that players practice so perhaps leaving her correct where she is is some maybe tactical decision the distance is not great greatly different black coming across to to the

Hook but not within C an easy shot so she has put her into the Penalty Box I personally would have put her into the other Penalty Box and make a walk all the way back over the other they the mind games you play remember Kevin I’ll expect you doing a lot of

Walk and like you said before I think you made the comment TR in GC you do do a lot of walking and uh competitions like this where you’re playing you know half a dozen games in a day it It’s Not Unusual to rack up around 20,000 steps that’s right I I do remember

Playing one of the um the Championships when we were allowed to to play and um my my friend the teammate was was wearing a a a f bit and it worked out that we were work walking uh 12 to 15 kilometers day yes yeah you don’t think of it at the time

But uh you certainly know by the end of the day when the legs start to feel a bit sore and the knees start to wake yeah that’s right I don’t all right so red attempted to clear red attempted to clear black there but missed which allowed black to push

Yellow to the boundary and Black’s keeping quite a stronghold on that hoop 11 there in a good clearing position very important hook this one isn’t it five all it is indeed so yeah a little bit of caution perhaps here is not not such a bad thing you’re closer

To the hook than your opponent you’re looking good yeah yeah for sure so yellow needs to either stay deep or mirror black that is go on the other side of the hoop and that’s what she chosen to do staying away from black that’s a good ball very and blue can be a little

Deep yep just if she has to be careful not to block black on yellow which I don’t know where this is done oh it’ll be close so she’s hoping black can see yellow I’m assuming she can she’s lining up for it that’ll leave Blue in a lovely position there so

Lovely clearance de Center OH bit unlucky hitting the hoop there Helen will be answering with another clearance no yeah she decide to go for a block yeah go back and say go on go for the hoop oh h M it is a little bit angly we can see

Now oh is it is it in the Jaws I think it’s a little short a Jaws position would be wonderful if it really oh it is yeah it was yeah so that’s you know should be easily cleared by Red there oh okay she was just trying to

Nudge blue away and hopefully sit red in the Jaws there which again would have been very a very good position yeah it did it did because uh I think blue is that close it probably wouldn’t be able to jump from there but again these TV camera angles are a little deceiving at times

Oh I loveely Bo we were talking about um offside balls earlier um just an opportunity to explain to the viewers about offsider if if a ball that you play is past the halfway mark to the next hoop without touching an opponent ball if if you hit it there and miss and

Then the hoop is run your opponent is able to say your ball is offside and send you to a penalty position so we were discussing whether or not the ball that Helen missed with was going to be directed to a penalty spot or not the penalty spots are on the sides of the

Court East and West about level with the Peg and on that occasion elain did send Helen to the Penalty spot to play from there so no penalties happening now everybody’s hitting things so it’s all okay I think we’ve mentioned before Helen uh currently has a a golf croquet world ranking of4 45 in

Australia uh 812 in the world and Elaine is 15 in Australia and 179 in the world so quite a big difference there 15th to 145 but uh it’s certainly not showing Helen there’s more than holding her own in this game both ladies playing wonderful golf croade they’re both fairly

Unflappable and um aine is is extremely steady and very um very skilled very careful and very skilled very liable in the S to 10 yard clearances and usually also in in the long hoops and Helen has shown that she can match it she hasn’t played as much so sometimes the ranking

Doesn’t mean that you’re a great deal worse or better it simply means that you haven’t played as many games yes yes correct correct and elen has much more experience than Helen yeah y h up blue to run hope 11 and this time no curse well done

Kevin you you didn’t curse so she did it and uh We’ve we’ve seen a few misses on hoop so it was good to see that one at hoop 11 and for the first time Elaine is one up so the the score for her now will be 65

Um first to seven for a golf C game and they’re heading now for the 12th hoop it’s a chance for Helen to level it again at six all oh it’s a nice ball in yellow there so Blue’s got a decision to make do I clear red do I clear yellow I’d

Probably be looking at yellow then again there’s always a chance of attempting the hoop but yellow I think would be the best move to best ball to take out given where red and black are red would definitely be clearing Black okay that’s that’s a case of missed the ball and missed the hoop so yes C is black almost free to run it and level the game that’s exactly right black does have a shot on yellow there so I imagine she was hoping to wire black on yellow there but uh it

Didn’t work out so we’ll see whether she attempts to clear or just wants to put the ball in to become a bit of a nuisance ball possibly block I’m wondering if she’ll risk the um attemped clearance because if she misses then black will be offside with talking about

Offside because the next two if if the games are Level if the game score is level at six all the next two is poop 13 and luy that was unlucky wasn’t it could have just G the other way yeah okay so she needs now to to run this hoop keep the game

Alive and run it with a bit of conviction you’ll often see players run the 12 hoop and the ball will just dribble through six or eight inches or not at all never mind and of course they don’t want to be through 6 to 8 Ines because they want to

Be able to turn and hit back up the court to hoop 30 that’s right that’s exactly right so blue taking a deep position so that it’s not an easy clearance for yellow because she’s assuming that red will clear black which it does so this an opportunity Now Kevin

For black to come in and be Wired from yellow do you think or is yellow a little bit too much to the side no I think if she can get a wire from yellow that would be uh that would be the best outcome and that’s certainly achievable looking at where yellow is um

Even if she’s not in a hoop running position if she can hide herself from yellow it looks like she’s just R it head long yeah a little bit too far but I think that’s what she was trying to do yellow will probably just come in nice and tight on the hoop to

Block block blue on the hoop she now what are we do what do we do do we clear red or do we attempt the [Laughter] hoop yes I don’t think there’s any surprises there I don’t think there’s any surprises there with that decision both have sort of ER on the

Side of caution during this game but um of course a failed hoop there would have been a disaster so I think that’s probably a decision that I would have made as well it was quite a long ho yes yes most certainly and given the conditions it’s probably a good move

GNA come back into the mix and that’s a good ball yeah and black obviously kind of clear yellow and hopefully stay around with yellow a long way away yes oh that’s a lovely clearance and black just travel a about the Y that’s perfect it’s just what she wanted

Because blue is perfectly poised to clear blue to clear red s to clear red yep yep you’re right yellow coming back ball back in yeah that’s a nice shot as well I think if ever you clear a ball you’ve got to finish your ball closer to the hook than they

Are yeah yeah most certainly so I don’t think red can see much of black there so she’s elected just to dribble the ball in just to see whether or not oh and the lawn as you can see is taking away to the Left and here we have the same situation is she going to try the Hope or do the clearance but she’s going to do the clearance the angry sort of Hope they’ve very consistently been bringing the balls back into good positions haven’t they they have indeed yeah there’s been

Some long clearances but uh each time that ball just seems to find its way back to where in was uh and that’s that’s a great skill to possess as you can see yellow’s done exactly the same thing again and is it protecting red looking at what Blue’s doing I don’t think it is

Okay elain has been an association player for a long time um and Helen has been playing a great deal of go Croy recently this year El’s only played 10 ranking games and Helen’s played 46 oh wow a big difference there isn’t that right I wonder if she would have tried to run

That hoop instead of clear yellow if yellow wasn’t in the way interesting question yeah right so red and yellow really controlling this hoop at the moment with black black I think is down on the boundary nice clearance though I’m not sure I’m not sure if black will have a shot at

Yellow yeah looking that where she’s walking into she should have a shot on yellow but it’s a big clearance yeah big important shot yeah so red will just dribble back in over towards hoop 11 there corre hoop 12 and she done a lovely approach shot there good position

Elan just brought in a nuisance bow yeah yeah and she’s done exactly that bit of a hampered shot coming up for yellow but uh so Helen’s got to be able to play the ball without touching any other balls with her M over her feet and oh right so blue will take black question

Red away on about imagine yeah and then do the jump possibly we might see a jump it’ll depend on how yellow is sitting because if yellow is sitting on that leg then it can’t run that hoop so uh if it is sitting out a little bit it

May be able to Jaws onun the hoop again it’s hard to see with this uh with this camera angle still it looks against the leg but you can see it’s a lovely line for a jump if the Els to take it and of course still Helen might be looking to clear it

And oh it’s it’s a very good attempt undecided sort of shot wasn’t it was just a coming back in shot and saying well go on do your worst so she’s just having a look there to see how yellow is sitting whether or not yellow is runnable oh she doesn’t look like she’s

Going to chop because the clip’s still on no she’s coming in well she’s going for the the clip and her opponent very kindly takes the clip [Laughter] off okay so this this shot for the match beautiful textbook jump 75 and uh that was a come back a wonderful comeback

From Eline in that in that match because Helen did definitely have the upper hand in the early part but it’s one of Kevin says the balls it’s not over until the balls are in the Box exactly right yeah great comeback from the lane there she was behind all

The way until she caught her up on the 10th hoop and uh they managed to win the 11th and as you can see with a lovely slow motion jump there textbook jump to win the the match 75 well done ladies that was a very very entertaining game to watch and and tactically interesting

There there wasn’t much aggression it was just steady play uh careful placement some astonishing blocks far more blocks than we had seen in the men’s games at the last event so we will be changing across I think to court one I’m not sure who’s playing on court one

There’s nobody on court three looks like they’ve finished and um there will be a men’s game on court one we’ve been playing men’s on one and uh the women on two now there’s somebody on there that’s um that’s Kevin beard I think they’re just placing his or Steven I can’t quite tell

Somebody in Australian track seat yeah that’s Kevin and at the other end I’m trying to work out who that is so they look like they’re on hoop 11 there ho 11 yeah and we’ll see if we can get a score for you that’s a failed hoop attempt

Another Miss with a red there from from Kevin and black attempting a clearance on yellow and executing not uh the player who’s playing Kevin is om soash um is from mes and I haven’t seen him play before Kevin substantially he runs that very confidently and oh and it’s all

Over at C 11 at ho 11 so it’s 74 must 74 yeah so a win there to Kevin so Kevin’s ranked number 13 in Australia and Omar is 281 one uh and I’m the same TR I haven’t seeno play before I’ve seen Kev several times I haven’t played against either either player

Um but uh I know entertaining we’ve all all seen Kevin play several times but um I think against Kevin with the way om’s ranking is in comparison I’d say that he did very well to get to 74 um yes so he’s from Mones Club I think John V’s

Also from Mones Club um there there’s a lot of you being from New South Wales aren’t familiar with the Melbourne clubs I’d imagine but mes is one of the city clubs and we have courts and the clubs all over Victoria Kevin’s a member at wer although he also plays at Essen and

He lives in Melbourne um we’ve got players here in this event from bronswick essendon and mes but we’ve also got country players we’ve got Peter goldstraw who comes up from sale which is about 3 hours from Melbourne three and a half hours from Melbourne and Tom Lacy from one I haven’t

Seen Tom play either that might be his first time at can Ley and of course this is the Victorian cook Center so we do hope that most of our Victorian players feel that they can come to to play here and any of the the events that are here

That are open events they can come to so we’ve got um one of the ladies is from Bendigo and we’ve got uh another chat from jalong and I’ll tell you some more about some of the um the other clubs when we are um discussing some of the men’s matches because we’ve got one

Very interesting club which is actually a mobile Club oh wow yeah they they take their equipment and go anywhere um so now on this course I’m trying to work out I think that might be Andre it’s a bit hard to tell who they are we’re looking at the back view of

People somebody’s telling me that on court two they’ve got um leester and Tony pie but I don’t see Leicester there I’m not sure who that is no that doesn’t doesn’t look like Lester and the ring it’s definitely not ler Um oh it’s Andre in the in the white playing red and yellow and John car the Andre is from Williamstown Club he’s been playing at camle quite often and John Carr is from Mornington down on the peninsula and just a failed attempt at h two from John there another Williamstown player

On the court standing behind Andre that’s CLA keing she plays at Williamstown and Lester does as well Lester Hughes we’ll see him later Andre placing a cautious wide ball there yeah it’s a good good ball a long way away from Blue which is exactly what

You want so I wonder if blue is just going to give black a bit of a nudge or we just set up for a uh to possibly wire himself from Red yeah good good boy that’s a useful useful technique the only trouble is sometimes it exposes a

Shot that wasn’t there before so I think red can now see black yes and he’s not worrying okay I’m not sure why he’s done that well yellow plays before black so no it doesn’t black black to run the hoop yeah I I think I think he got his

Colors mixed up there because that wasn’t a very sensible shot particularly if you had a an opportunity to clear black which is what he should have done so I’m not sure why he played that shot anyway colors mixed up too it’s easy to do we’ve all done it

Okay we blue red black yellow that’s a lovely approach with the yellow there yes indeed if it’s sitting on the peg or sitting on your Mallet and plenty of areas where it is to remind you but easy to forget we do know that I’m not quite sure why

Blue’s ended up on the wrong side of the hoop there that’s a strange thing yeah well depending on uh again it’s a bit of a cautious shot in the hope that potentially yellow will Jaws the ball if it doesn’t run the hoop but normally you would attempt to clear

Yellow given the fact it’s sitting a yard directly in front so he’s opted to hope that he doesn’t run that yellow ball and just jawes it John is not one who’s had a great deal of experience so he might still have an idea that a player will miss the hoop

And he’ll be able to hit from the wrong side yeah yeah so nice hoop there by yellow taking the score to uh 2-1 to Andre John has an interesting way of lining up there he sort of stands back and very up very upright everybody has completely different style Andre is

Often bent over and he does quite a few swings before he attempts a shot got a bit long there for red I don’t know whether he was an attempted push clearance from Red there or sometimes the play particularly in situations like that where you know there’s every chance that you could give

Blue a nudge but if you miss blue there’s every chance that you could run that hoop still and this is another similar shot Le to be attempting to to hit blue and if he misses there’s every shot every chance you could run the hoop and looks like he’s gone wide again with that

One that did show in the the back swing how much of a hook he had on the back swing yeah yeah all right John to try and even the game up to two all there that strange lineup very stiff but yeah he may be through but um the ball

Is yeah the ball declared as the hoop made uh once it’s cleared the playing side of the hoop and it can still be in a very awkward position getting to the next hoop and I think that’s the case this one I think he was kind of hoping that wasn’t

Run because he’s hampered now he can’t can’t get to where he wants to get to with that blue ball to hoop five that’s right now Kevin we um are about to do a change over I’m going to leave you for a while and um Kate Patrick is about to

Come back into the commentary box so I will say goodbye for now and um enjoy the rest of the game thank you Trisha and uh we’ll chat again soon I think we will over to you Kate thank you can well this is a very interesting game

Kevin I haven’t seen John Carr at all Andre is quite experienced I’ve seen him playing quite often at this venue but not John car so good to have new players coming along yeah most certainly John uh John hasn’t currently got a ranking uh because he’s played less than

10 games so I believe the stats I found on John was he’s played seven games competitive games uh and and and won a couple of those although just looking at John and his stance and his swing uh he looks fairly new to the game to me

Um but uh you know he’s holding his own at the moment two all with Andre on the fifth so good on him yes he’s doing well he is indeed but Andre is in a very strong position here with uh both his balls directly in front of the hoop

Oh almost got a luck in off there John so he’s got quite a high handicap for a participant in competition at this level he’s on six which given that he’s not been playing very long I think he’s got a his um membership number is quite High I

Think he’s only been playing a couple of years he’s done very well to get to six and he’s won a gold already at waren ball in the range 5 to 10 so he’s obviously out there competing and wanting to compete go John yes two years of play and down to a

Handicapp of six that’s uh that’s exceptional and a nice block there on red that’s a good deep ball given that uh red will be taking black away and blues decided to stay uh stay a good distance from yellow the last thing you need to do was

Put it next to Black and just be easy picking for yellow to clear so will he go the hoop well it’s black to play playing Black of course yes black yeah yeah I think he’s just trying to put a block on yellow to Blue if that’s the case then yellow will

Come in tight yellow will come in tight on the hoop he’s really thinking one ball ahead do you think because Red’s the one that he’s safer from yeah yeah so yellow’s com in tight put a a block on the hoop there so we would be thinking well black can clear

Yellow we want to put black where it can we we’ve got black where it can clear yellow we don’t want red clearing black has he got the block that’s what he’s thinking yeah he hasn’t got a block on black to red or red to black but he’s giving himself a good

Chance if red it is yeah if red is not successful here then the black’s in a great spot to clear yellow and blue to run oh okay so unfortunately for Onre took his own own ball away which now really gives black a free shot at the hoop should he choose to uh take

It what he’s got to keep in mind of course is that blue can see hoop six and is not impeded uh if it is impeded by hoop five to six then uh he may not want to take this hoop it looks as if that might have been a consideration yeah yeah and you’ve

You’ve always got to have that in the back of your mind it’s one thing running the hoop but if you can’t get your other ball to positioned where you want it then you may consider doing something else and that’s exactly what John’s decided to do of course that lets the uh

Lets Andre back in again oh unlucky there is not on song with these long clearances no and they’re never easy are they those those 15 plus yard clearances it’s a big Court you can’t necessarily see quite how big it is when you’re having these close-up shots but

It’s the size of two tennis courts so the accuracy needs to go from the side to the middle is quite significant oh yes he thought he might be playing Black but he’s actually playing blue yeah okay so does he choose to run or does he wire uh correction

Jaws okay yeah I know he’s gone well enough through that he’s got a good shot to the next hoop yeah he has indeed yeah yeah Andre goes up stopping oh very nice curving over a little yes oh curving over too far almost perfect almost yeah players are just

Having a quick discussion about how much that ball curved it doesn’t appear that red is in a hoop running position it’s too far to the side there so black needs to play left to the hoop and probably stay his his distance away from red that’s that’s not a bad shot

Actually has it gone too far behind or is it I think it is behind behind an right oh it has gone behind a fair bit too isn’t it red might be able to run yeah I was just thinking that so red and yellow are in very strong spot

Here bl’s decided to stay stay a little deeper I’m not sure if red can run that but I think he can certainly Andre can certainly put that in the Jaws I would say that was a little hard to see or is he just going to hide from from black I think he’s blocking

Blue he may be hidden from BL yeah it looks like he could be doing two things there couldn’t he trying to hide from black and blocking blue you’re right there Kate I think black can see red yellow good Jaws you know I think he I think John’s aware of

That so he’s T oh well done double Clearance well done John that was a good good uh a good strike that little conversation with them about the curve on the lawn one of the nice things about croi is the it’s an amiable game it may be that you are very much in contention with the

Person on the lawn and you have no conversation at all while you’re actually playing against them but generally speaking people are very friendly off the LA oh most certainly most certainly um I think in competitions of this nature most people don’t talk on the lawn you know unless

There’s something other than the uh you know you see a good shot you’ll generally acknowledge that good shot um well you have a lucky shot people often acknowledge those they so sorry about [Laughter] that no he’s going to burst it out do you think I think so oh no no I think he

Can still see yeah still see uh blue with yellow there John needs to take that red away I’d be taking that red away that’s the the danger ball is he thinking I might do an inof of blue I’m not sure if he can get that in off there Kate but uh that’s could

Certainly be an option as well he’s definitely gone to clearance yeah that’s that’s the better of the move and and just except that yellow’s going to take blue away yeah start again yep so if he can leave yellow close to that hoop that’s what he’s after so he

Then can control the hoop beautiful that’s what he’s done oh so quite a difference in style between the two players you’ll note that Andre likes to cast he’s just proving me wrong with that shot but he did before he did yeah yeah generally there’s a few casts and

Then he uh plac it the Mallet down and then strikes the ball whereas JN sort of stands over it puts the Mallet out and then goes straight into his shot attempting to yeah just attempting to put it in the Jaws there I think always tricky on that sort of

Angle and it looks like Andre yes oh that’s definitely not successful he can’t run the HP from there yeah I don’t believe I think it’s touching the leg Yeah yeah looks like he’s resting on the leg doesn’t it so you can’t um have the Mallet and the ball and the hoop all

In contact at the same time so you have to hit away from the Le that’s correct that’s called a crush yeah all right so probably just take that blue ball away and get in a nice position where he’s potentially is in a position to uh oh what’s what’s red down is it

Drifted on behind it’s G behind it has to it yeah so black will take yellow away and hopefully you kick it out a little bit and uh oh that’s nice that’s very nice very nice shot that’s one of those shots you were talking before about the dangers of a double

Tap there was a risk that though and there is a risk of that if red should try and clear black because they’re very close to each other I think so if you hit two balls and oh no not that close it’s the four shortening so yellow comes across trying to hit black but

Failing going well out of play yeah it was interesting I would have thought Andre would have just put uh yellow in a position to run there and leave leave red to I think red can see black we had a shot of it before it seemed quite

Clear yeah so although there is a chance that leg can interfere but we see definitely not a double tap because when there’s a double tap it the back wall travels pretty much in the direction of the front Po and those two balls work very much at an angle I

Think blue and black still have somewhat of the upper hand at this hoop but that is a bit too far yes he overplayed that a little there just overshot it so yellow’s looking at taking blue away and glanced offers yes in association croakies that would be could be a success youve

Touched the other ball you’ve achieved a roket you can put the two balls together but in this game all you’ve done is not quite mov the blue far enough may be a little hampered by the pig so he just wants to push this about two to three yards I think and get set

Up for a uh to run the Hope golf croakie players do complain about the pig it’s very useful in association croaky because it marks the end of the game when both your balls hit the peg you’ve pegged out that’s the end right in golf croak the only use for it is if

You have an extension on it and you can put the extra turn things there if you’re playing handicap otherwise it’s just an obstruction in the middle of the court and it’s quite amazing how often those balls are drawn to the peg when you’re going from ho 5 to six uh or 11

To 12 of uh how often your ball manages to find the pig even though you Ain nowhere near it looking at it looking at it want to avoid that and of course the more you look at it the more likely you are to hit it you’re spot on

Kate so blue and black looking pretty good on this hoop yeah certainly in control at the moment leaving Andre with some uh quite lengthy clearances to attempt what he’s done that oh that was a center ball on black there yeah beautiful ball and he’s got yellow much closer to Blue much less challenging

That will be his second clearance yeah well if uh if black black will just come straight back in so that’ll be interesting to see what Andre decides to do whether he just goes to clear blue with his yellow or if blue and black are uh he may well attempt a hoop

Shot because yellow is in a position that can run that hoop yes we’ll see what we’ll see what he decides there Black’s a little short yeah exactly exactly he’s a little fact that black short There’s an opportunity to clear blue there but it looks is though he’s going to attempt the

Hoop we haven’t seen either of them jump yet no have we I don’t think we have no not yet of course in the last game so he’s changed his mind there and it’s not a bad decision actually to look at clearing blue because I think he would

Have definitely go on the hoop if black was a bit closer and in a hoop running position but the fact that black isn’t or that was a bad a bad Miss there that was not what he meant to do and it’s one of those cases where he was attempting

The hoop and changed his mind didn’t stalk the ball and just turned his feet around turned his body around and of course the result was uh less than favorable just glanced off blue moved blue about 6 eight inches oh no I’ve been watching him I’m not sure he does stalk the

Ball okay either of them stalk the ball yeah let’s keep an eye on that it’s one of those things that when you’re um coaching people you talk about grip how you hold the Mallet here’s Andre holding the Mallet with both hands Knuckles forward it’s called a Solomon

Grip gives you a good amount of um you can get a good weight on the ball because you can take the Mallet right back I can’t quite see John’s hands but he did not stalk that ball the second thing is stalk you no you walk away from

The ball and come back so your body is lined up on where you want the ball to go now I didn’t see John do that so grip stalk and then stance and swing those are the four things that you teach people y um let’s watch Andre is he going to stalk the

Ball well two steps well if you can count going back a yard maybe a small stalk yeah a very small st in the way of his own B so there’s an opportunity there for John to possibly just put a little promot up on black and nudge black into

The right in front of the hoop I’m not sure if black is on that leg or it’s just out so it looks like that’s what he’s going to attempt to do just nudge black into the uh no going for a block going for a block so now we have red with the

Hampered shot I think this is one where I would like to the referee called oh yes yeah that was very careful so now black that was a good shot there by Andre Cu uh black can’t clear redar would think from that angle yes and I think Andre does have a

Jump I think he yes he put himself in yeah put himself into a good jumping position so the sequence you might imagine is black goes in the hoop yeah yellow to clear blue and red probably to jump yeah so John’s having a good hard look at this thinking things

Through he’s got to be careful he doesn’t uh bevel or double tap well it’s probably more a crush I think at the moment is ah okay so there he go he’s put it in the drawers yeah so that was a so yellow will take yeah yeah yellow will take blue

Away and then we’ll BL for a nice a nice tidy jump so that was John Vander coming on with the Markus tournament referee I think he’s the coordinator golf croak refereeing as well as a senior coach he’s man with many hats and many skools oh he was lucky he didn’t move red he

Was he was it’s always the danger isn’t it the the collateral damage of your clearance too often is the case where you can clear your opponent’s ball and also unwittingly clear your own ball so so we John needs to We believe that black is safely in

The hoop John needs to get rid of red he does indeed yeah oh okay is he going to knock his ball out oh dear now if if if Andre can perform a nice jump here blue and black are in uh serious trouble in terms of going

To so he can see right through the hoop he can see where the ball goes through okay so John was quite fortunate there that uh he’s managed to knock blue away and even black to a degree so black and get over to seven I’m not sure if he can get in

Front of the hoop yes I think nice little there the black ball was sent backwards by the jump and the blue balls that come from the other side and couldn’t run that’s a very nice ball it is a nice ball yeah not intimidated by just having lost the hoop

And gone to three or where he was in the lead he’s he’s done a good placement he should be feeling with himself and a nice approach there by Andre keeping uh keeping his social distancing from black oh okay looking like he’s that’s an unusual unusual move I think probably just showing a

Little bit of inexperience there because whilst he’s knock red over the far boundary the man of Andre skill will just come straight back in and put that red ball exactly where he wants it right in front of that hoop and of course that me think the black was a

Runner yeah is it in a position to run yes it is indeed it is yeah so he didn’t want red to clear it yeah I didn’t actually think black could run looking at the initial move but no and he didn’t unlucky unlucky it did look as if he could

Though yeah yeah upon first glance I didn’t think it it could but uh you’re right that opportunity sat in the hoop and then jumped out again Ah that’s a nice lovely ball so experience shows here perhaps yeah that was a very nice hoop and uh a good run up to

Uh to hoop eight as well he’s more than halfway up to hoade a unlucky there by John that hoop with the blue top hoop one as hoop eight on the way back so you Orient Yourself by this hoop Oh and around it goes yes that was quite a big curve wasn’t

It they had these caught scarified this is too long as well they had these c scarified not long ago and you can still see the the the lines where the the roots of the grass was were cut and I think they pull the the balls around sometimes yeah I I recall watching the

Uh competition with three uh is the Owen there was a GC comp about a month ago maybe just less than a month ago with Robert Fletcher Steven forer and um and the other player was letter Hughes yes and the court had recently been yeah that’s right yeah the court

Had recently been scarified and the oh boy some of the directions the balls were going were phenomenal and yet the players did extremely well I tell you what there were some wonderful cro played under very trying conditions yes that’s still available on KO that game absolutely worth watching it was masterly croaky indeed

Indeed so Andre’s just looking at wiring himself from black so just looking at trying to hide from black so he can’t be cleared and he’s uh looks to be successful there so probably leaving Jon with the option to maybe go through the back door unless

He can see it it’s hard to see on this particular angle doesn’t look like it no so I think he was attempting to try and come in through the back of hoop eight there just to uh just to run through and then effectively block red on the hoop

Though just having seen Andre jump perhaps not such a lay down outcome yeah yeah well if I think if it had ran nicely it could have uh it could have not any block red on the hoop but potentially stopped Andre from jumping if he’d ran up close enough

But it’s always a hard shot to try and attempt oh unlucky there John going to clear R away so that’s Andre 53 to Andre Andre taking charge of this game really yes he’s been in control the last couple of Hoops hasn’t he with his uh ball positioning and

Uh um yeah just in control of of his uh of this game so far so nice commanding lead of 53 going over to the the ninth hoop little bit short there from John you can see the white stick which marks the center point between the the two the

Hoops they’ve played and the Hoops they’re going to so there’s three white sticks that Mark the three Center points for the Hoops in their different rows you can see there’s um Don’s ball was just to one side not definitely not over halfway oh lovely ball yeah very

Nice that looks as if it was an attempt to block yeah I think yellow will become the clearing ball and red become the running ball so well away blue coming back but not not into a running position so Kevin you’ll be leaving soon thank you very much for your contribution to

This comary it’s been very interesting hearing from you you’ll be back again tomorrow I believe indeed I will treasure I’ve uh thoroughly enjoyed the the two games I’ve been commentating on this morning with both the ladies uh playing uh first up and and both these gentlemen I’ll be interested to see the

Uh result of this so I will be pairing again with you tomorrow enjoy the rest of the uh the day’s game and uh enjoy the croaky thank you so welcome Serena Serena saal hu from Twin City croak Club um those who haven’t um aren’t familiar with it that Twin City is located in

Auy and it’s a fairly new croak club which I think Serena was involved in starting were you not Serena yes Kate I’ve been watching the games too and I did particularly enjoy the game between uh elain Helen elain was the defending Champion for the women’s golf cro event last year year

Now we’ve had done a great deal of expert commentary from people who are elite players and very very knowledgeable about the game of cro and they always seem surprised when some tactic or some shot doesn’t come off well I’m always surprised when my shots do come off or when my tactic is

Successful so for the rest of these two days I will be quietly barracking for the underdog so I think John is doing very well stepping up to Andre here on Center Court at this 12 Court venue and I’m just go John I think we can all have a sympathy

For the underdog it’s very satisfying to see underdogs come through and in the previous game which which Elaine did win Helen did extremely well um I think the comment May was both un yeah though the comment made was that they were both unflappable well that’s experience isn’t it on the court but it

Um the wind may have had a lot to do with the decision making in that but the tension you know by the time it got to 12 hoop 12 the tension was there wasn’t it so it was anyway when here watching these two players and they’re going for hoop nine and

Uh yes nicely lagged John’s considering his options here what do you think his options are well the Red’s a long way away but can he see yellow to clear it or is he going to leave black to clear oh oh is that something where he’s managed to do two

Things at once he’s put himself closer to the yellow so he can make sure that he does clear it away a good distance and he possibly has also blocked the path of red to Hoop N I think he might be put in Black in a place where he can run the

Hoop well I think this inset is brilliant this close view of these balls is just wonderful isn’t it mhm so very important for black the more serious it is the more often Andre casts he’s done that yes did it go through the hoop can we have a replay of

That just going back to get a replay I think winding around so a lot of the courts in play today on this competition here we go this is the replay yes oh so that was a bonus to John John is now four well he’s keeping his nerves under control isn’t he he’s doing

Well there he is putting the clip on the hoop claiming the hoop which was given to him by Andre in this particular case but yeah that must encourage him a bit he lined it up perfectly as a block and it went straight through when Andre hit

It all balls now getting closer to hoop 10 black to play John considering his options again I think he’s considering that yellow hasn’t got a shot and red does have a shot blue is not badly placed oh so we’ll we’ll take the danger ball away from the field of play

Oh now this is for shorten blue is actually quite a long way from the hoop and was too far for too much something something I always something I always say Kate if there’s a gap I’ll find it nice shot and so was that so our commentators commenting on the game

Between Eline and Helen that was showing just previously they consider these seven yard roces bread and butter for those players but for me this would be a a r or bus chot but he doesn’t it niely in front his partner no no but to to come back and lag

Beautifully he’s gone too far inde M I think you might have touched it we can see what Andre is doing there can’t we he’s wiring his red from the black doesn’t look as if he’s quite succeeded no the camera angle does seem that it’s still visible to

Black but it is a seven yard shot as you were saying which is John’s on six he’s not not an not yet an expert player now will yellow promote red do you think I think yellow is aiming to I think yellow is aiming to clear back yeah and you’re

Right well I’ll put a tick somewhere for that Kate yeah so they bring wonderful skills to these games don’t they ey hand coordination the ability to make a decision quite quickly oh what do we call this shot Kate that’s an in off we’re expecting he will red

Will hit the edge of blue and go into the hoop off blue and it’s done exactly that not quite sure that it’s through yet no I don’t think it is but and black is behind black could hit it out it’s a difficult shot it’s big angle those pesky legs of the Hoops do

Get in the way for these shots don’t they nearly good try so for Andre not to actually progress for Andre not to actually progress towards hoop 11 he must still feel that JN can move that red ball out of that that hoop backwards doesn’t he yes I guess and he hasn’t touched it

I think therefore he’s going to be offside we were discussing offside before I don’t think he hit red on the way past so he hasn’t come off an opponent ball he’s on the far side Andre is contemplating whether he will send him to the Penalty spot either on that side or the other

Side but of course he has to play Black before he plays Blue at all I think this is a conversation about blue being offside yes he has to have that conversation before he plays his own ball Andre has to say you’re offside there if he waits

Until he’s played his own ball it’s too late that’s a nice shot with black very nice he’s not intimidated even though he’s only this is the deciding hoop if um it’s the first to seven so if Andre gets this hoop it’s all over yes he was directed but just to

That penalty spot he doesn’t have to do the long walk over to the other side Kevin our previous commentator said yes I would make him walk over to the other side oh Mind Games he said Mind Games it used to be that you had to put

The ball right on the line at the penalty spot but now you can put it anywhere in within a yard of that mid midpoint on the line which has made it a bit easier a yard half circle isn’t it basically yeah that’s right that’s a nice comeback isn’t it it’s lovely

As they were saying on the previous game a lot of players spend time practicing these shots to the hoop from the penalty spots they go around they have you can have a quite a nice little competition as a as a practice activity where you take turns hitting to a hoop

And see who can get into the best running position from the penalty spot so players are often quite good at hitting their ball to really good position after they’ve been sent to the penalties B I agree um a coach will often have their players do that from all positions

On the boundary won’t they and aim towards any of the Hoops well what about 70% of our game is actually what we call positional play about putting your wall on a blade of grass on a court that measures 35 yards by 28 and it’s it’s a skill it is a skill

Andre would know this is the deciding hoop he would is he going he’s got no clips left in his pocket he’s had six clips they’re all on the hoop try camera angle so he did have a straight shot we could see that yes we could maybe the excitement of the moment was too

Much oh he’s got the host and the game continues as you say he’s not in the least bit intimidated by playing somebody that’s played so many more games than him particularly at this venue we can’t quite work out that distance but I think it’s about half between the pig and hoop 12

This one has gone beyond hoop 12 so not at all what he wanted no oh well if I was right about the first I’m not sure yes they both look as if they’re about halfway between don’t they from this angle and he’s having a very hampered shot here for which he should

Really call the referee it did appear to be clean though he did hit it with the face of the Mallet but yes you’re right we have these hampered situations with another ball or the peg or the hoop and one 7 five I was about to say somebody else

Might hit the black away and and aim for the hoop with the yellow but not Andre I’m going to win the game at hoop 12 the chance well done Andre but well done Don also for making it to 75 that was a very um he played was in a very determined

Way and he was not intimidated it was really impressive yes quietly baring for the underdog me here this is a big stage and a lot of them probably haven’t played it canly before yes I know that all his Club mates were it’s a bit of a distance and his Club mates were

Cheering him on now I think we’re going to go across to court one um where I think Elaine covero is J Julie Beasley they are the top two seeds in this competition and it looks as if they’re well round their game they’ve got to hoop

10 I can’t at this stage see where the clips are see if Kate I think they’re on hoop 13 if you look at the score oh so well done to both of them that can’t be right that was from no that can’t be right must be the previous one

Yes that was the previous one it’s Julie Beasley we’ll sort that out again two very experienced players quite used to this atmosphere yes I’ll just see if I can pick up the score there are no um Flags to tell us but would it appear that the wind might

Actually have died down a bit nobody’s grabbing their hats and so they might go for longer shots oh cleared away yes yes it does appear to be hoop 10 we’ll get the score for you when we can so we have uh red and yellow in

Front of the hoop now I call that a dominant position in front of the hoop looks pretty dominant to me Serena and blue and black are some distance away red and yellow is Elaine cavale and um blue and black are being played by Julie Beasley they’ll be both long clearances

I can see why Julie is having a think about this you would think that yellow might being right in front of the hoop you might she might wish to clear yellow even though it may be some distance out that’s the fores shortening we can’t see quite how far it is

Away uh she was trying to clear it Julie’s from warle warle cro Club she plays off a handicap of two which is from where I am extremely impressive and we have a score it’s 54 to a lane and perhaps 64 shortly no no what what do they call that Kate commentator

Curse well that was you that did that Serena I know it must have been you that directed that no I think that’s a silly thing to think we’re all optimistic that this the the player who’s got that nice short shot on the hoop will score the hoop but it doesn’t always

Happen these players on zero they um they don’t always play perfectly either and Eline is the defending Champion yeah and in the background we we have Terry Wilson from Wanger performing referee duties here at this Championship so our referees come from wover Victoria we appreciate them they’ll be just as cold as a

Players oh colder they don’t get to move around as much beautiful sh that’s interesting because I don’t think blue can see that red ball yes that’s why I said it was a beautiful shot Kate yeah lovely um it’s a really problematic this is again red and yellow in control at this

Hoop you would have to say black and blue far from them and black has to clear yellow because yellow has a shot but needs to clear red because blue can’t see it and Mrs both no Kate if there’s a gap I’ll find it yeah so elain kindly goes over and

Places the ball on the other boundary and we’ll come back and now do you think elain will actually go for the hoop or she’ll just position herself where blue can’t or perhaps in a to protect the red from Black from the boundary I don’t it what’s blue she’s just checking whether

Blue can see red she can’t fitle with the position of blue yellow can’t improves the position of blue she might just put um she might put yellow in to be a a second runner yes yellow I mean yellow to be a second one blue could come through the hoop and make life

Difficult well it does work great camera angle unlucky sometimes you’re left with an option that’s the only one isn’t it Kate or the only one you feel you can make just be careful not to touch yellow here she had her trousers flapping at yellow plenty of Distance by the look of

This this camera angle yeah and she’s run the hoop so that goes to 64 for elain and I think they’re having disc midd and I think that little hand motion was to indicate that the black ball was offside because you remember that it went right over to the other boundary

Without touching anything so here is Julie taking the black board up to the Penalty spot and again she hasn’t been given the Long Walk she’s been given the short walk to to go to the nearer penalty spot cuz they going to the middle it doesn’t make much

Difference so Julie has the first shot to hoop 11 it’s really important that she runs hoop 11 because if Elaine runs ho 11 that’s the end of the game the first this shot Julia is just this shot that Julius just played is one of those ones where we were referring to

Previously they PR all the time from any position on the boundary to position on the court very nice shot by a lane lined up perfectly in front of the hoop as you can see from that shot very pretty well I stated when I came on online to do a bit of commentary

For this that I would be baring for the underdog but neither of these women are that they’re both elite players in our state Squad if you were going to say there was an under Underdog I guess it would be the Julie who’s not the defending Champion eh they’re positioning balls really

Nicely Kate they’re just they are it’s a pleasure to watch them isn’t it so Aline does do a few casts wow that was a nice shot look how far black is nine eight nine yards do you think from yellow now 8 yards I think a yard the other side

Of true when we talk about Ela cavale and she plays Association croquet golf croquet and ball luck I think she touched yellow but then it went on to Blue and all this all must have clearance took the to blew away so this one for the game Eli must just have terrific I hand

Coordination and a confidence in her shot and why not there she goes 74 well done so they’re playing around Robin in the ladies competition in the women’s competition today yes and I think that might mean that elain’s won three games out of the five she has to play today I think it

Does good start though we might to be able to see that on croak scores can we bring up the women’s on croak scores please cracky scores might just not be quite up to date but we do know that Elaine has beaten Helen gamon and nickel and now Julie Beasley

So very good start for Eline and Julie I think is she and Julie are the two top seeds Julie has won one game which is still in there and of course they meet tomorrow and things could be different and she’s yet to play Chris eford who’s won both her games so

Far Chris eford from Quarry Hill another good compet another good uh yes we enjoy that game yes so I don’t know if there’s a game going on in court two can we have a look um perhaps this would be a good moment to have a look at some of that

Stunning footage we have of the um the Owen Edwards challenge where we had some of the top golf croak players in the State playing L off against each other we might take five minutes just to have a look at [Applause] That two players out there at the moment are Lester Hughes and Steven fer he must be very confident that he can clear that blue wa what a shot that’s incredible you’ve got to really make sure that you’re not styed for hoop 13 oh Lester goes through the first game

Is won by Lester Hughes Steven now taking out the red beautifully great shot and dispatching it nicely very very uh smooth and effective yeah I know can’t see how much he can see of black is he’s going to trickle yeah nice shot coming from the non PL inside so we’ll just just see

Whether what black is going to do here side style jump maybe oh oh shot great the front of hoop six and now Leicester just puts in yet another intimidating Runner Ball well done l so saying I’m going to hit the yellow away with the black ball on the next shot after this okay lot riding on this stroke Greg about n yards away got to hit the yellow so that’s that’s now put the pressure back on Lester to to get rid he

Certainly opened the door to Lester and Lester doesn’t go through the door big moment pressure on now right in front great camera angle and we go to hoop 13 Lester has been given the opportunity to win the match so he do that well played Leicester it’s no uh for conclusion that Robbie wouldn’t

Clear that beautiful angle there fur great shot wherever Steven puts this ball the black will be able to clear it that’s a brilliant brilliant camera angle oh let’s look at this oh great shot there we go through Again jump shot I think chosen to jump what a spectacular over the yellow and bouncing in and tickling it up nice and gently oh it looks like he’s just coming out a little bit oh no he’s just a little Snicker doodle on it but Lester now looking to

Clear the red by the looks of things which he does very nicely big kick with the the black ball but the red slides off oh my goodness and Robbie has answered the question 5 mil oh list dead luck and what percentage would you give him here great more than

50% even touch the side wait there’s more didn’t even touch oh my goodness what a camera angle it’s fantastic isn’t it it’s not going to get the blue it’s not going to get the hoop wow this is momentous this so side style 75 that is fantastic o and the red almost sneaking

In so Leicester can influence Robert’s choice I think I mean to anybody that doesn’t play croquet and looks at that and thinks oh that looks that looks easy I can assure you that’s not easy okay I’d say he was block yep concentration 100% oh no turns

Away again no it’s a chance to turn it around here CU black can stay yeah not bad it’s still in the vicinity looks like it shoots he makes it what a way to win the championship oh my word well well played what a fantastic competition and a fantastic spectacle of cro for the Weekend okay so the courts are uh empty because everyone who should be playing on them is inside waiting for a partner to play against I’m think thinking we might have a look at how the games are going on croak scores we had a look just

Before at the women let’s have a look at block a in the men I did enjoy the highlights though Kate ah weren’t they impressive that was a wonderful watch that over and over again and you can watch it again on the replays from KO freebies it’s just and I hope that we

Have some highlights from the association cro championships that were held here at this venue last weekend I still think those four shots from Ken Bal should go around the world they would just was an amazing match just an amazing match sequence of shots you know

We have cro scores there yes no we have cro scores this is for block a um we were saying before the men are in two blocks and at the moment they’re pretty much in the order of the ranking so let Mr Hughes is a former Australian champion and he’s

Undefeated Steven forer now this is very interesting because Steven forer has been an association croak specialist and he came in to play the Invitational the um um Brian riter challenge back in October and here he is back again having another another go oh and he played in

The the one we just watched where he did the little dance so he’s playing golf Croak in the owen Edwards Invitational so he’s got three wins three wins and one loss pretty much what you might expect from those Association croaky skills then we have Andre we’ve seen

Andre already um he has got two wins and a loss and there there’s three of them on two wins and loss Richard Parks from Monash bman wearing from R&B wanted to say something about R&B do you want to talk about R&B Serena I’m um I’m a great admirer of R&B

It’s a concept that I haven’t actually seen before they have been around for a few years but basically they move their cro games to wherever they’re needed they play in schools they play at parks um and they’ll set a caught up basically anywhere and anybody that wants to come

And play often they provide a meal to the people that come and play I think it’s just a wonderful concept so many of our clubs are sort of fixed locations this idea of taking cro out into the community using it as a as a means for socialization for people I I think it’s

Just wonderful truthfully so they’ve got the hoops and the balls and the mallets in the boot of the car so have croaky will travel as they been to the Lord mayor’s camp at the end of the Mornington Peninsula and spent two days playing croak with the kids there I believe

Although it’s something you don’t teach people until you’re at level two coach they had kids doing jumps before the end of day one they were so excited often too they may start playing cro that way but then they become interested in the game and then they

Want to join the club don’t they we hope so we do hope so and here we have Block B um headed by Chaz Quinn though as the top seed would be Kevin beard from Yara Wonga he’s only played two games so far there’s a player missing in this block

They’ve got seven so on each round there somebody sits out and Kevin beard sat out in the first round so The Undefeated players are Kevin who’s the top seed Chaz Quinn and Owen Dickinson Owen Dickinson must have had the second byy I think so pretty much again going

According to what you’d expect but you can see what you were saying Serena how distantly players clubs are sorry Kate I didn’t quite um understand the question there I was just thinking we have two players who belong to Yara Wonga up on the Murray um someone from s someone from

Mes two people play us from mes and Tom Lacy from wagi so there are clubs right around Victoria which you would know being the Secretary of cro Victoria we’re about wonderful is that now now that the co restriction have eased slightly people are coming in from the regions to play at our headquarters

Here so that’s um it’s terrific yeah as I said I’m look I’m here for the underdog I’m I’m always surprised when something works for me so um anyway so we’re still waiting are we for people to come off the court so we’ve got two but one of them’s gone to buy his lunch

So um hoping they’ll come on the court soon no what I was thinking was that if somebody sees this and they think that looks like quite a fun game to try most of Victoria you would have a club that you could find that would be pretty nearby to go

To we do have 88 clubs at the moment but that that’s I think a little bit misleading we have 88 affiliate clubs that are affiliated with cro Victoria but there are opportunities to play cro in areas and with pockets of people at bowling clubs clubs that are not

Affiliated at lifestyle Villages I think there’s a lots lots of places that people can actually play cro yes and there’s a a site online where you can you can find a map of where all the croak clubs in Victoria if you go to the croak V tutorial website croi vic. ASN Finelli

Au there’s um a a map you can click on the map and find your nearest Croy club and of course you don’t have to join a club to play you can just go along most clubs would welcome you to come and have a go you can you pay a green fee which

Might be $5 it’s usually $5 and they will lend you the equipment the court will be set up they’ll find you a partner and someone to coach you and you’re away $5 for a morning’s croaky and you’ll be welcome to afternoon tea it’s a very socialable

Game have to um no it’s not expensive no the thing too is that most clubs have a stock of used mallets don’t they that have either been donated or refurbished somewhere along the time of timeline of the club’s existence the mallets and that we see the players

That are using today they can actually go up to what $1,500 do you think to purchase one but that’s that’s at the top end top of the line yes most of the most of them will be under a th000 but most clubs have a stock of used mallets go along Robert Fletcher is

Still playing with the Mallet would have cost him less than $200 he’s been playing with it for the last 140 he’s had it for 14 years he’s gone back to it after a bit of time with a personalized Manet I think he might have made it himself he was setting up a

Workshop he is the world number one in association croi he is Australian number one he’s just won the Australian golf croak championship and he is playing with the Mallet that you could buy for less than $200 so yeah it doesn’t require much of you well Robert Fletcher the first name

On the Owen Edwards golf croade Challenge and the Brian riter Association cro challenge trophies he’s won both of them earlier he did earlier this year yeah and a wonderful player if you want to see how Association croak has played just have a look for Robert Fletcher and world’s fastest triple PE on

YouTube and you will see how the really good players can Z zip around the hoops and put their own ball and their partner ball through 15 Hoops in less than five minutes truly amazing I think too this is one of the differences between joining a golf club

And joining a cro Club if I were to join a golf club I’d have to buy my own golf balls yes the cro balls are made in Australia to World standard to competition standard and the club provides them we do have a lot of cro clubs that actually coexist with bowls and Tennis

Clubs some play in a separate area of the club and some play on the tennis courts or on the balls courts with um Urban Green Space at a premium sometimes these days we have to multitask and have multiple sports playing on the same green surface we are seeing now though that artificial

Surfaces are being considered around Australia for cro courts I don’t think that the decision or the um that they’ve been looked at for long enough to decide whether that’s the way to go but most of us still prefer to play on natural Turf we’ve got 12 courts here of natural

Turf at the Victorian in cro Center and it’s looking very quiet at the moment ah we’re going to have a couple of players come out in just a minute um on court two we’re going to have Chaz Quinn another member from Yara Wonga and Tony pie from

Jalong so they’re about to hit off I believe uh but go to that and remembering what you said about bows clubs croak a bit like bows it’s except usually perhaps without the bar but we’re very good at morning and afternoon tea uh very sociable sport

Croaky um if you look at look at croaky on Facebook you will find quite a lot of appreciation of the quality of the morning teas well CH Quinn as you said from Yar Wonga and he plays off a handicap of one and Tony P’s from Eastern par Park and

He plays off a handicap of two so this is expected to be a close match we’ll look forward to commentating on this now that’s not uh but it does look like Owen Dickinson that does look like Owen Dickinson though we do know it’s not Tony P I think maybe it’s Owen Dickinson Owen

Dickinson not Tony pie so yes Owen Dickinson is on blue and black and Chaz Quinn that is Chaz Quinn is on red and yellow and from endon um come along a long way in the last few years I think he won the last Victorian state championship he’s expect very well in this

Contest y Owen Dickinson the defending Champion for this competition he plays off a minus two so are we expecting to see some long clearances I think we’re expecting to see some excellent jumps from Chaz he is a used to be a jump specialist he was a member

At Brunswick which is my club and he was the man who did the jumps but he’s also a very bold player very very fun to watch we actually saw Chaz Quinn assisting K Victoria last week when he uh officiated as a referee at the association cro championships loves this

Cro chz will go for the hoop do you think Kate um he might be a little hampered but I think so I would expect I expect he will he’s just making sure he doesn’t move moves that black ball with his foot and he’s got to be careful also

Not to hit it with his Mallet and he has run the hoop there he is putting the clip on the hoop he’s playing the red ball but he’s using a yellow clip to signify that the red and yellow side is the one that’s run that

Hoop so now we all go up to hoop two do we see Chaz actually play quite forcefully a forceful shot nearly all the time or can he play those nice little touch shots in front of the hoop oh well there you go make a liar of me Chaz that

Wasn’t that wasn’t a forceful Drive still appears to be a bit windy yes it does look there’s Owen’s back ornamented with Clips CH keeps his Clips in his pocket but Owen pins them to the back of his jacket so you can see how many he’s got left that’s went a bit

Far yes it looks quite windy on on Owen’s um cap so I’m going out on a limb here and I’m thinking that that Owen will clear yellow into the next suburb he might he might well and hopefully keep black in front of the hoop yes but chess is from your region Serena

So you would be barracking for chess would you not oh yes I would be [Laughter] Kate so oh Owen for the oh s yes Owen for The Equalizer yes and through it goes head across Court to hoop three they both play at a good Pace

Don’t they they do I don’t I think You’ be seeing a very brisk game here I’d say the winds caught camera whipping around pretty wildly Chaz does cast a few times over the ball Chaz has played here many times hasn’t he and he will that ball on and it would not

Listen so I guess that was a stalk that’s three three steps towards the ball eyeing off the direction he wanted it to go in and it’s gone out this is actually quite a strong position if you have a player who’s confident about his hoop scoring capacity from the boundary the good

Thing about being on the boundary is you cannot be hit away because your ball is really out of play until you play it and those players that do have that confidence to clear or run a hoop from the boundary to clear a ball in front of

The hoop or to run a hoop from the boundary they use that a lot don’t they and I think that might have been an attempt by Chaz to block the black ball but if that were it it didn’t succeed now we’ll see whether Owen’s confidence is is he going to run the

Hoop well the wind does appear to be quite strong does Chaz actually play a lot at essendon even though his home Club is yonga um I’m not sure he’s definitely that’s the club where he plays M when he he yeah he’s he does go to

Yonga from time to time but he lives in Melvin he’s quite close to the Esson Club so these two might actually know each other’s style of play do you think yes yes I think they will be very familiar with each other’s style of play so you think that blue was a

Deliberate shot there so that it can def um defend and and hit the red away if necessary or do you think it just ran a bit far no I think it’s deliberately placed on the short side of the hoop so is too far to clear and if it were

Cleared it would be couldn’t be sent all that far away and that was a very good clearance on yellow very nice clearance very nice clearance Chaz Sprints around the court at Pace about 14 times faster than me so um we were thinking that I one will go deep

Yes now I think it’s nearly time for me to hand back to Trisha Trisha you’ve had lunch I think Owen’s going for dominant position so he’ll end up with two of his balls in front of the hoop chz is quite a long way away perhaps even wide the

Black ball may be wide from yellow at this stage I would say Owen is in the dominant position at hoop three yes he might try to yes he might try to block Red’s path to black or do you think no he’s taking out the yellow one of the interesting things

About the way Owen hits the ball is that he always grounds the Mallet directly after his hit he doesn’t ever have a follow through do you honestly think that it hampers him in any way he has he can he can hit across the court yeah I’m just doesn’t seem to take any

Power very distinctive he doesn’t lose any power in his shots or anything does he by doing that he must get we all have an individual style don’t we yeah yeah it’s distinctive no other people don’t do it now what will Chaz do will he run for the hoop or will Chaz clear the

Black clear back almost both unfortunately his yellow came to the wrong side of the hoop and didn’t go through the hoop now can go through we can see the cameraman Sheltering in the weather shed there the wind must be strong so I’m going to hand over for to Trisha who’s come back

Um I’ll be back again at 2:00 to talk with you Trisha um thank you very much for your company Serena and we will talk again later yes I think you and I will be together again tomorrow won’t we Kate so Trisha absolutely you know Trisha you know both of these players would you

Describe them asig I don’t think Owen even went for the red then doesn’t appear that way probably assuming that uh blue will take the red out now would Owen be going for the hoop here because he’s actually hampered on a shot on red because the black ball there would interfere with his

Backstroke okay R to go we’ll see if Chaz can make this hoop well I was at a coaching session yesterday and the very experienced lead coach said never rely on your opponent making a mistake well now that’s three balls that had that have had a go hoop three we’ll see what happens

Now I’m thinking Owen will try and set up both of his balls so that he is actually two in front of the hoop no oh yes First Choice correct oh well done Chaz clear two balls doesn’t happen very often for me so black I want to play his uh blue

Ball hello Serena I’m wondering now can you hear me of course I can Trisha and you can come and give some tactical insights I’m too busy barracking for the underdog that’s your way isn’t it I’m not sure we have Underdog here I think and CH they’ve played each other so often they’ve

Played they have played each other a lot oh well I don’t know if we’re keeping count here Trisha but I’m going with like six or seven attempts at this hoop now I think we’ll need a referee soon to check the hoop well I noticed that Chaz plays with

With gay abon it doesn’t doesn’t matter at all he’ll go for the hoop no matter what and um Owen then was just trying to clear him out of the way but it’s a clean Miss found found the Gap I call that found the Gap and we found another

Gap yes I did say to Kate are these both big hitters do they both play with forceful Strokes at the hoop I I think we’ve just answered that did you did you see see those two shots there was there was no nothing tentative about them oh nice shot nice shot because he

Cleared the yellow to the boundary and he’s kept his ball in a good position in the front front of the hoop we’ll just see if Chaz can clear that when the time comes they’re doing a lot of walking Trisha from one side of the court to the other yeah that often happens when

Someone’s good at clearing you’re always chasing a ball but Chas has done another another clean mess he doesn’t waste any time at all no he doesn’t has strides around the court well Owen’s in a really good position here he’s got two balls relatively close to the hoop I don’t

Know what happened then that must have been the wind or the court but um chaz’s both balls are way over in corner too and is the path to the blue ball blocked or to the black ball block sorry has blue blocked that pathway oh obviously Trish did you see that they’ve connected

On a on a windy day at can Le from 16 yards away brilliant well CH did exactly the same stroke twice in the other direction and clean misted but that one connected dead center so saved one but Owen just puts it back oh that’s a bit morale destroying isn’t it just puts it

Back that’s the trouble with hitting away the ball that’s next to play now you commented this morning on the play of elain cavale and Helen gamon
