Your San Francisco 49ers just beat the Washington commanders and the number one seed is possible today depending on what’s going on with Philadelphia and Arizona we’re going to keep our eyes tightly on that one as well but we got to talk about the 49ers win today heading in to the final

Week of the regular season what a beautiful season it has been overall and David and I are going to talk about this game plus more Next all right welcome back to last second Sports where we are giving you our take down to to the last second it’s a postgame rant although there won’t be much ranting the 49ers won pretty handily little squirly there in the first half but not that big of a deal

But we are going to talk about some of the things that I saw on social media but first David how you doing tonight my man hey man I I’m doing good I’m doing well my dad’s in town uh Iowa State fan he’s got his Brock pry t-shirt on today

So we’re but he gets stressed out during games so he went walking the whole game uh because he didn’t want to be around it and I think the first half would have stressed him out to be honest so uh but man yeah they pull it out there’s

There’s some things that you want to look at but I think that there’s also some encouraging signs too for sure for sure yeah look at my hands got a little sweaty today go Cardinals yes yes yes oh man we suck the defense is soft Kyle oh

My gosh all right all right let let’s talk about it because I did see a lot of uh tweets about this and I think I think the conversation especially in the first half was certainly there but let’s conservative Kyle that’s that’s the uh conversation of today we’re going to

Talk about the defense as well but conservative Kyle a lot of people felt like he was going with the quote unquote Jimmy G game plan as what I saw all over social media what are your thoughts of this I mean it what did seem a little bit quote unquote conservative at

Times but I personally didn’t have that much of a problem with it David the way that I saw it was I think the plays were still there but prie just managed the game the way that he should and and before you get your your panties in a

Bunch when I say manage the game I’m not calling him a game manager what I’m saying is he managed this game properly in the sense that if the play wasn’t there and he talked about this in the lead up to this game you know last week

I I kind of got out of things and and maybe took some chances I didn’t need to but today he didn’t take those chances and when he did take chances they were calculated chances that paid off I didn’t have a problem with the game plan

Personally and I think a lot of that is how py decided to approach this game and I liked it I liked what I saw from Brock p and the offense overall what did you think though oh yeah I thought that I thought Brock aside there were a couple

There couple balls today that ball placement was a little off but overall I think I thought decision- making was good I know he kind of quibbled our Tex threat about the throat of juice with an open iuk which I totally get I also was very encouraged to see him pushed the

Ball down the field when he needed to with confidence and I thought he had great placement on those balls so um yeah seeing what we saw from pretty today was very encouraging I think like just seeing that celebration at the end you could just see that last game got to

Him and then even this game it was just kind of like offense was playing well but didn’t capitalize in the Red Zone a couple times some questionable play calls in certain situations inside the 10 yard line and to see him kind of go find auk on that last touchdown and just

See him get into like Ban’s popping out of his arms and going crazy like that’s the kind of energy you wanted to see from pretty again I’m glad that’s back before next week yeah absolutely and and do you think that the do you think that the quote unquote conservative play was Kyle

Shanahan intentional or do you just feel like hey that was the flow of the game and that’s the way that perie Managed IT and you know obviously there were some big plays later in the game those were dialed up you know what I mean yeah you know in stream a game when

You’re watch op you can get I mean I’m not immune to being I say emotional but like you know you’re calling kind of how you see it I think that there were times where Kyle was pretty objective about looking at who his opponent was and

Didn’t want to get too crazy um I also think that Kyle uh and I’m trying to talk right now because I’m watching the Arizona Cardinals almost get a touchdown um the uh I I think there were situations where he want to get out with a win um

I’m one of those guys when I go on Twitter and and I see people say let’s get more balance let’s get more balance but you have been complaining about passing too much Baltimore Ravens first drive what do they do pass the ball all the way down the field and then people

Got mad because they ran the ball didn’t run the ball because he threw a pick well you can’t do that it’s it’s process over results so I feel very comfortable when Kyle Shanahan is a little bit more trusting saying we’re going empty backfield we’re going to pass the ball I

Think a little bit of this today was Kyle wanting to play it safe more than it was trust but I also think Kyle’s been a guy that when somebody’s had some hiccups in their game he he wants you to prove it to him again a little bit and

I’m not saying that’s bad good in between but that’s kind of who Kyle was was that the factor today I’m not sure but it was nice to see them open it up a little bit more near the end yeah and and I guess my point is is let’s say it

Was a quote unquote conservative game plan is that so bad that that it started out that way just to get him in a rhythm it’s like it’s like you have a a a player in basketball a three-point shooter that’s missing the last couple games they’re just not dialed in so

Instead of of getting them three-point shots to start things out you just kind of make it easy on them you get them a back door layup you just get get them chances to see the ball go in the hoop and then you start to let him fire and

That’s the way that it was so whether it was Kyle whether it was pie I just I don’t have a problem with it and did touchdown Cardinal touchdown yep James Conor go he’s in let’s go they kick the extra point here this game is pretty much over

Okay soorry this is not this is kind of why we do these shows right like when when it’s live like this when it’s live like this is huge because I’ll say this Christian mcaffrey not a severe injury from what it seems but if he can get a

Week to not even feel pressure to go against a very good Rams team and just let him recover this is a huge game I know the rust concerns oh they’re going to look at him being down I don’t think they’re going to be able to overturn

This based on where that ball is spot let’s go let’s go yes let’s go oh my gosh love this and they made it pror makes it they are up four 32 seconds to go that’s it that’s it and I did uh did did Smith hurt his knee today Devonte

Yeah I’m not sure he was he was a game okay somebody put it in the chat that he hurt his knee I don’t he may have heard his knee on that last Drive uh because but I’m not sure anyway so yeah it’s hard not to get excited about this

Because I mean this is in the moment um and I think what we’re seeing here is that the Niners uh didn’t have their best game today but still win in a convincing Manner and I think that really went into what Kyle was doing I don’t think Kyle feared this defense he

Should not have feared this defense and I think in a lot of ways um I think he was content with letting prie push the ball on occasion but uh what I thought was really interesting Elijah Mitchell comes in and he does not go away he called plays exactly like he would call

For CMC with Elijah in the game and to me that’s also encouraging because you know that I love the Elijah Mitchell and you also know that he is a little bit made of glass like he that’s not saying he’s not tough I’m just saying he gets

Her all the time right so course so to have him in those situations and maybe we to lean on him and to see the offense not skip a beat and yes I know it’s the commander D um very encouraging yeah I I completely agree with you and I had Mitchell as a topic

Not I guess not so much to to just talk in depth about him and and whatever but just to it feels good as a Ford ner fan to watch players win and not just for ner fan but just a football fan when you see stories and you see players that kind of

Go through tough times and then pull out of it you root for that and Elijah Mitchell is one of those guys where to your point he’s been so injured the last couple years it’s like he just can’t get it together and when he comes back and

He plays well all of the sudden he’s hurt again and that just continuously is the cycle with him but today he played very very well and I guess I just want to say like I’m happy for Elijah Mitchell the person you know that had to

Feel good for him to play as much as he did to play as well as he did get that touchdown it should be celebrated but also does Elijah Mitchell play in the that he did today regardless of who it’s against does that help the 49ers longterm going through this playoff push

And relying on somebody other than CMC like hey we can give him a blow give him some rest and we can rely on a guy like Mitchell again who has proven throughout his career wi healthy to be a very very good player doesn’t fumble the ball he’s

Just been solid why not I I just felt like only good things came out of Mitchell playing to today the way that he did no I agree and I think we’ve been kind of lost here with Mitchell not being available to see it’s only it’s CMC and it’s Jordan Mason right and now

To have Jordan Mason’s active he’s returning kicks they had him in their leag um good kick return actually he is and I think that just seeing him in there and then knowing if if the Cardinals can pull this off here uh with 21 seconds left you know you’re not

Seeing CMC in week 18 he will not play No need no need for it no need for it yeah absolutely AB absolutely okay let’s talk about the defense a little bit because I think there was certainly some some things that were a bit worrisome at least early on in the game

Um you had Terry mclen kind of having his way with the secondary you had some instances where the running game got a little bit loose for Washington now they weren’t able to stick to it this this is kind of what we saw with with the Vikings a little bit where they ran well

Early and then just kind of abandoned it and and went through the air now Sam how is is is not Curt cousins so it didn’t work out too well for him but overall what did you think about the defensive performance is there some concerns there for you you feeling good about it where

Are you at with them yeah I’m I’ll say this like I I don’t I’m a little concerned with ability to get pressure with four I think that the Commander’s offensive line is really one of the worst in the league um and I I don’t understand that was a little

Concerning to me make no mistake until Sam Howell threw that first pick to I believe it was travarius Ward I mean it was a 10-point game that was very close to being a three-point game very very quickly and so you know or even if you kick the field goal it’s still one

Possession game and so that was the Turning Point um and I just didn’t feel like they’re getting enough pressure I think wils is doing good job of not blitzing as much and letting them Rush with four but that that four has got to get home home it’s got to get home and

It wasn’t like how was like doing the whole Houdini stuff it was just just he was sitting in the clean pocket a lot so that’s a concern to me yeah yeah and I think that’s a good point because this team is BU is is that it is it over you’re

Muted it is over the Cardinals have picked uh Jaylen Herz off in a Hail Mary attempt in the end zone the Niners have the number one seed they will be able to rest starters next week the the week after and I’m sorry I was the saying on

Twitter I said this a couple weeks said hey I think they might need this test week 18 seeing today’s game and then having CMC a little dinged up look having the the stinker you had against Baltimore which I do believe was absolutely 100% credit to the Baltimore

Ravens like in that way like right like I also believe that the Ravens are doing it again this week to Miami by the way I’m not I’m not taking a win Brock pry did not have a good game against the Baltimore Ravens I want to make sure

That’s very clear that I’m saying that too I also think that there were certain situations in that game it was 13 to 12 right before the half it was 16 to I mean it was a tight game for most of the game and so I think the Niners really

Believe that if they can pull their head out of there you know what and kind of get that energy back and confidence and get healthy I I think that this team really believes that they can go in there with them I think it’s a hard task

But the way they played the first half though I want to see the energy where you’re not letting that h i mean you’re vying for the number one seed going against a team go vying for the number one pick and you let them hang around until Midway through the third quarter

Right I I know people say but just that’s that’s what I want to remember here and I think that the ners should feel good about where they’re at I also think that they’ve got some time here now to really get their head on their shoulders and make a plan for the

Playoffs well I mean we’ve basically got the playoffs set as far as both conferences go when it comes to the number one seeds we’ve got the Ravens who have locked up the number one seed now in the AFC you’ve got the 49ers who have locked up the number one seed in

The NFC this is absolutely huge absolutely huge so you know it’s uh it’s what we were hoping for coming into this week getting it a week earlier than expected is is fantastic and you know they were gifted one a little bit the Lions definitely I don’t know what your

Thoughts are I know that I’ve seen you kind of going back and forth it did seem like the lions got the short end sick on that two-point conversion but you know either way they they shot themselves in the foot they should have probably kicked the extra point afterwards kept

Themselves in that game they decided not to and it cost them so ultimately the San Francisco 49ers are the number one seed it’s absolutely awesome so and even if I have quibbles about Kyle uh and I you know I love Ben Johnson I also think Ben Johnson lately there’s just there’s

Been some things where you get cute or I always joke around with my friend like if John Gibbs got even two-thirds of the usage CMC had I feel like the Lions would have won some games that they’ve lost um I feel like I feel like in that

The time where Dan doesn’t you know does everything right allegedly I still think like sending two or three offensive linemen out there to muddy the waters and then in that situation having three opportunities to do it and coming up empty every time you still have to say yeah the ref screwed up

And the the process there was fla and so I think that my point is looking at a guy like McCarthy looking at a guy like Dan I think good overall coaches in the NFL I don’t think the 49ers are really fearing those two teams and I think that

Their ability to have the ability to rest and see who they get and be able to sit through Santa Clara is huge for this team yes Stephen says Jesse’s getting roasted on Twitter for being a closet Ravens fan that was one weirdo and uh I think he got roasted pretty I mean

Listen everybody here knows exactly my situation knows that my son is a Ravens fan knows that I watch the Ravens intently not only because of that but just because I watch football I watch a ton of games I don’t have Sunday ticket for no reason and really you know my big

Thing is I don’t want to just watch the 49ers and have an opinion I want to watch what’s going on around the league and come to you with an informed opinion about what I’m seeing if I just watched the 49ers and and glazed on everything

The 49ers did and had no idea on what’s going on around the rest of the league how informed is my opinion actually you know what I mean so that’s that’s kind of what I enjoy doing I love football and yeah I love seeing my son happy so

I’m going to root for the Ravens when they’re not playing the 49ers it’s just the way that it is uh those are things that you do as a parent yeah that’s I’m like as a parent of kids and a teacher like also I think it’s even if your son wasn’t a fan of

The Ravens you’re appr Lamar Jackson is playing out of his mind right now the Dolphins are beating the do rabans are beating the Dolphins 49 to9 right now okay they they like it or not they donkey stomped our San Francisco 49ers in our house and Lamar

Jackson’s going to win the MVP like get over that if you got a I mean yeah I don’t know if you got a problem with that sorry it’s it is what it is smack Jones says let’s keep it a buck ba is Untouchable yeah absolutely ba is so freaking good man Joey melon

Says number one seed yes number one seed indeed flave says happy we got it locked up we seem beat up likely the Eagles or Rams in the NFC semi should beat either as long as they are healthy and not too rusty well hold on Rams aren’t there

Yet no they’re they’re not they’re not they’re they’re in danger of losing today yeah well the C the Cowboys by the way the Eagles all of a sudden don’t get a home game if the playoffs start tomorrow the Cowboys are going to win that division as long

As they win the final week of the season the Cowboys will have the second seed I’ll be saying this though and you can bookmark this I am no ain’t nobody afraid of the Philadelphia Eagles I’m sorry that defense absolutely I want to play The Eagles I want to play the

Eagles that that defense is happily sorry forit I mean and with with slay out I mean this in a in a game they really needed to win and yeah ners I was at the game at Arizona where the ners defense kind of let him hanging up playing some pretty bad Rush defense on

Some big plays difference was Niners scored almost 50 points uh ners offense was wasn’t uh awall right um I think that yeah this this NFC is gonna be very very interesting yeah I I think so in a good way for the 49ers uh if the 49ers

Weren’t in the picture the NFC would be wide open it would be very interesting he says and actually here’s the biggest thing you and I need to really be celebrating the number one seed because David we’re going to the NFC Championship together you and I if they

Make it assuming they make it all they got to do is win one game and you and I are going to be in the building for the NFC Championship how awesome is that man I mean to have that it’s not a guarantee right now but you got to feel pretty

Good about great the the odds are and I think that I’ve never been to the NFC championship game as I’m a season ticket holder but this is a bucket list right and toal to be able to go to the NFC championship game in a season where we

Both feel they have a legit chance to win the Super Bowl uh if they were to win the Super Bowl would be an all-time special moment for me in my life so that yeah it’s gonna get it’s gonna be exciting because that that game isn’t until January 28th so we got four weeks

Uh to build up to that but um it’s gonna be fun it’s gonna be fun yeah yeah absolutely absolutely uh we got that one Keith Murphy okay cryptic says our defense can be an issue I know the final score seemed like a blowout but it was a lot closer than

It seemed also nice to see us have a run Trio I think he meant Trio there yeah absolutely I mean and Debo Samuel is is certainly a part of that as well I mean essentially his touchdown was was basically a run right he caught it behind the line of scrimmage on a little

Shovel pass so yeah the the Run game it’s nice when CMC is able to kind of get his rest and I think to David’s point we’re going to see him hopefully rest the final week if he’s even a little bit banged up I think that’ll be crucial for him but yeah overall the

Defense a lot of Miss tackles and and I again this is why the number one seed is so crucial because it is clear to me that at least this defense has worn down when they’ve had to put it together a lot of weeks in a row and but but when

They have a bye or they have time to rest they put it together and they look damn near invincible so to me that’s what I’m looking at is that bye I really expect the 49ers to come out on fire defensively in the divisional and then ride that through into the Super Bowl

Because even between the the NFC championship in the Super Bowl they would get another bye so really they they should have plenty of rest here and come out on fire I don’t think it’s it’s a lack of Talent OR scheme they just start to miss a lot of tackles and that

I think is indicative of them being a bit tired is is what I believe well and I get that and I think they are bit tired I get that they had less rest but I also think it’s is we’re in week 17 I mean I think every team in the league has had

Moments of rest get add up and so everybody’s a little gassed everybody’s a little bit dinged up right now uh but yes I think for the 49ers to be able to do this now there’s gonna be some if they come out Rusty right in that divisional game based on what’s happened

It noen I’m not a fan of having him as the as the punt returner anymore that I agree with but I don’t think he’s trash by any means I think he’s a very willing blocker I think he’s good after the catch I don’t ever remember thinking he

Was a next Debo by any means he’s a good he’s a good special teams player as well on the kicking team like he as as ay getting tackles like he’s not I don’t know if any I like I like ronne Bill a lot I wanted him in the draft I also

Didn’t think he would be anything more than a wide receiver four or five in a pinch like so this year so yeah I don’t what what I do think and what I definitely said is I think that Jaan Jennings next year likely a free agent or is a free agent likely won’t come

Back I feel good about Bell playing in the slot and I do I mean you’re talking about a rookie receiver a lot of young receivers struggle early in the NFL it’s just it’s a known thing you know you’ve obviously had the guys that come out and they’re great but a lot of young

Receivers don’t really figure it out until like year two year three I think Bell being your third option being your your slot receiver next year I think you can do a lot worse then I I think Bell’s gonna play that position next year and I think he’s gonna do well in it I

Definitely don’t think he’s trash I would prefer that he’s not a a punt returner for sure if that’s kind of where your mindsets at as far as him being quote unquote trash then sure but uh I I don’t think he’s that Matt says if you can knock the Rams out of the

Playoffs you play they are too dangerous I don’t think that you worry about any team any team enough to where you risk a ton of injury we’re going to talk about what the 49ers should do and I think David and I might disagree there for sure but overall I don’t I just don’t

Think that you play that hard where you’re trying to kick them out that’s just me uh brother Bob says I cannot believe leave anyone doubted IU go ners he’s having a hell of a season man a hell of a season he’s definitely going to get

Paid he deserves to get paid and I and I hope that anyone who and I know that this was a topic of conversation if they have to choose between auk and Chase I think it’s pretty damn clear where you go because Chase is not made near the

Course it’s wor he was worth it what 100% worth that value yes and hopefully he’s getting but I will say this um inability to rush with four and to have Cleveland Ferrell uh in the game over him is says a lot about what the 49ers really think about Chase young and so

Yeah I think at this point I’m not saying chases garbage but he ain’t going to be worth a big contract yeah Matt mcin says Mooney Ward pricing himself out of San Francisco next year well maybe after next year he’s not a free agent they actually pushed his contract back so he’ll be on

This team for sure unless he decides he wants to hold out or something like that so you know well yeah and he’s a guy that I actually feel like look a Super Bowl changes all things right um we’ve seen Bill belrick be a guy that has been very willing to sell High certain

Situations because he had the luxury of having a great quarterback and a in a Super Bowl roster right um I think that travarus Ward is you know what I think about him I think Mooney Ward is indispensable to this defense I think without him we’d be in a lot of trouble

And I think that if there’s a way to extend him before he got priced himself out it wouldn’t be a bad idea yeah uh Maris I don’t know if you’re watching today’s game but uh in a game that was for the number one seed in the AFC Lamar

Put put up 321 and five touchdowns on 18 of 21 passing yeah I’m I’m glad that wasn’t a Super Chat uh that I think is anything but mediocre but that’s just me that’s just me he’s like he’s number one MVP and it’s not even remotely close it’s not even

Close in in the two biggest games you you had the 49ers which was for like League Supremacy last week and then you had the number one seat in the AFC on the line between the two teams that were figh for the number one seed winner basically gets it and Lamar comes out

And played damn near Flawless football in both of those games like I don’t know what more you want from him man 808 Niner says rest these guys the D and the o line and CMC need it well that’s another one for you and then flave says

The 49ers game plan should be it sounds like your game plan is to are are you saying rest everybody are you saying rest people give them a couple starts I I don’t know I mean you you let me know yeah I I said a couple starts I

Meant a couple series there right right I think that here here’s my thing like we can get all including myself like anecdotal about what’s best play versus rest all I know is that you’re ain’t going to get hurt when you’re sitting on the bench okay and I I think that for a

Team it’s been 29 years it has been 29 years since the Super Bowl victory this team is absolutely and you people can disagree with me on this I feel that those teams with Kaepernick were amazing uh I love the 2012 team love them 2019 I still feel the 2012 team

Was a better team than the 2019 team and people can argue with that I feel like this team on paper with all the production they can have is absolutely the best opportunity regardless of who their opponents could be in the AFC to bring home a Lombardi I really believe that

Okay and I think that in those situations where you know that the only thing tangibly to be gained is keeping guys fresh or keeping guys kind of in Rhythm but if you’re only bring them in sporadically or intermittently for a couple series I don’t really know if I see what the

Point of that would be I can respect other people’s opinions I think Jesse are probably going to disagree that’s just in like friends disagree we actually people we’re Al ditto heads right um I just feel like the risk is too high you’ve climbed the mountain

You’ve got that number one seed um and I think you need to be very judicious about who it is that you play I understand that it’s going to be hard to play all reserves the whole time I get that um particularly on the offensive line but big Trent I don’t want to see
