Welcome to wetta high school for the second our our double header un night of Trojans basketball the girls matchup it’s a top 10 matchup too in class 4A number 10 El River taking on the number six wetta Trojans MJ Wilcox along with Ryan Iverson and Ryan looking for a
Pretty good match up both these teams are at 5 and two they’ve faced some tough competition already as well still early in the season somewhat but also a good matchup just to see where you’re at yeah you bet you both are really storyed basketball programs too Elk River having
Won a state championship not long ago wi Zetta always being in the top 10 so I love that these two schedule each other you look at Elk River their two losses were against really good teams in minetonka and St Michael Albertville so they’re a very good team wetta always
Plays a really tough schedule so I expect a good one here tonight let’s talk about key players to look at in our contest starting with the visiting Elks and a player who does a little bit of everything for them in Kayla Christie including leading them in scoring yeah
Averaging over 14 she’s going to give you rebound she’s going to make the right play she’s just an all-around player she can shoot it she can drive it uh and they’re going to need her to score tonight wi Isetta really puts points on the board usually in the high
70s or low 80s River’s going to have to score to keep up with that she’s going to have to have a big game and for y Zetta a young player but a stat stuffer in that Kate amlot yeah almost 19 points points a game eight rebounds she kind of
Does everything I’ve gotten to see her play every summer for the last few years and she’s just a talented player she can shoot it she can pass it she does whatever it takes to win so really exciting one of the best sophomores in the state even though it is December
This is the type of matchup that when you get into that like section semis or final they’re not in the same section of course but it it’s the type of game that gets you ready for March and I think both coaches look at it that way too I
Agree and it’s like if you lose this tonight so what you learn from it you grow from it both of these are the caliber of teams you’re going to have to go through to get to the state tournament or play in the state tournament so I love when good good
Teams schedule each other early win or lose you just want to get better you want to learn but I will say it’s fun to win the last game before Christmas makes the holiday a little bit easier should be a pretty good fast-paced game tonight as well both teams like to get out and

For the rebound Katie kelzenberg off the glass and good a she got up for that offensive rebound too and for the jump ball you know they’re glad to have her back playing basketball she’s a tremendous athlete look at the starters for both teams oh and there’s a turnover
As uh Michael and Heidi threw that one as the uh Wing player was cutting and so the Trojans able to help force a turnover here yeah I think for both of these teams you’re going to see pressure here’s a full court pressure by El River and wisett plays great man-to-man
Pressure hackinson missing the long attempt there Lily Osterman up with the rebound yeah and just being able to handle that get to your offense get good shots without turning the ball over going to be a big part of tonight’s success teams have not met for the last
Couple of years although it hasn’t been too long ago that they played dump down Christy that one partially blocked though as it ended up hitting the bottom of the backboard then Christy steals the outlet pass though another good luck and kelzenberg a block from behind on hitti
There got great pass too by Christie staying with it getting the the steel and then just a beautiful looking pass but a good recovery there by wi Isetta and that’ll be a foul as tulso takes it up inside and will get an opportunity at the free throw line here
As the Trojans foul committed by Sarah Hyde yeah you look at both of these teams Jay they have really good balance I mean you got emot with you know almost 19 points but you look at Elk River you know 15 11 8 10 seven I mean everyone can score and
That makes it you know hard to guard when you got five girls that can score at any time little bit more of an experienced team I think for El River too than for uh the Trojans three seniors in the starting lineup for uh Ryan manahan and the Elks so they tie it
Up at two to2 on the tulo free [Applause] throws and there’s pressure and it pays off in a steal for Demar dear for the layup really nice job by her using her body and letting the defender clear by and getting a good look instead of forcing that really
Nice they beat the pressure that time and amlot pulls up no good kenberg another offensive board and SC again and she’s so good at that shots go up you got to find a body on her can’t let her we’ve seen a number of offens of rebounds already here [Applause]
Tonight tied up at four a piece here in the early going Jamar driving it Scoops it up and in great [Applause] shot and then we get a foul in the back court on Osterman what a finish with the left hand tough angle too she was almost behind
The backboard put the right amount of spin really nice looking finger [Applause] roll El CR last year runner up in Section 8 to St Michael Albertville wi Isetta same with in section six so they they both have uh at least one really good opponent in their section too amlot
Drives in misses dear out of there with It Osterman cut off by [Applause] Hackinson dear thought about it and into chrisy tries to go weak side pass was tip but they still keep it down to about 10 to go on the shot clock here’s de ding that one almost looked easier than the last one but left that one short yeah I think someone from Letta
Got their hand in there kind of made that a harder shot than it it should have been you see nothing easy for wisett Elk River doing a nice job defensively H yeah H he knocked that one away anuka keer coming in now for Julie Stewart and the Trojans
Amlot looking down low to kelzenberg up fake missed that one though Osterman looking down low with it and then they kick it back out and it’ll be short though on the attempt from tulo T heads up play ostman grabs that rebound no she’s falling out of bounds
Heads up throw it off of wetta foot h River doing a nice job I think under siiz a little bit comparative to wetta but just winning with some effort and hustle on some of those offensive rebounds minen day number three and number 14 Alli Burns in now for
Wetta Christie looking down low with it nice back door chrisy a little up fake short with the shot though and rebound grab by Day they look inside with it a little turnaround by Burns wouldn’t fall though and the rebounded by Osterman a little hakee malaj on dream Shake there nice looking post move just left it [Applause] short both teams solid defensively there they are you I’m just going to say you’re seeing nothing easy for either
Team and we’ll get a foul on Elk River after of the steel as Christy ended up falling into the legs of the Trojans Burns and burns did a nice job giving up a little bit of size down there but just fighting didn’t let that post pass get down there really working hard
Defensively Ella good nature checking in now for y Zetta 6 to4 El rer remains our score amlot swings it down to the corner and knocked down a three by day on a great extra pass OT could have shot that instead made the extra pass day only a freshman but a really good freshman
Knocks it down dear answering with the three she has seven quick [Applause] points amlot drives dishes and one good finish through contact by Alli Burns yeah and that’s what I think amlot does so well she you see her just break the Press press under control didn’t force
The shot made the right basketball play and got a potential three-point play for a teammate here and that’s what you got to do too you got to have those hands ready Jay catch and score and chance to take the lead but missed the free throw so it stays tied
At nine we’re going to get a foul chrisy grabbed that rebound and was just pivoting away and Ella good nature got a little too much arm so Isetta is already put nine in I think a lot of times coaches if you plan to use nine get him some early minutes
You’re not sitting around too long yeah you get in the rhythm you’re confident you’re in the flow too and a luxury not many teams actually play nine right and you got the number six team in the in the stage playing nine early and I think they love that they have good depth D
With the run out and gets the layup to go and wetta goes back in front now 119 yeah and again amlot hasn’t scored in this game but has made a presence by a couple of great passes that time throwing it ahead and no good but a foul drawn as
Tulso spun back to the left hand there and was fouled D will pick up that foul El G not afraid to drive the ball to the hoop they’ve done a little more of that maybe than what I was expecting part of it’s because they’re being pressured defensively not giving up you
Know an open look at the hoop but they’re they’re definitely been looking to attack hey and when you’re being pressured if you’re aggressive back a lot of times it’s going to result in fouls being called it’s a great way to get an aggressive team to back off cuz
They’re going to get in foul trouble and that’s exactly what you got to do you get to the free throw line you got to make them tulso ties it up at 11 she’s four for four at the line in inside nice speed and burns finishes well Burns great job of ceiling
But I’ll tell you what Dave that time really nice angle goty that just L her right into the basket beautiful pass Beautiful Finish pass deflected and here’s the steel and then day goes down and eler will get it back yeah I think the fans were thinking that’s a foul and it
Probably was but none of the refs were seeing it cuz they were all running to get into the play definitely trip there Elsie osmo number 22 is in for Elk River here’s Demar cutting she may have traveled I think yeah she had the right idea that fake and then she just needed
To put the ball on the ground as she spun that time just move that foot just a little bit great cut yeah here’s a look at that you can see there’s the trip I just don’t think anyone saw it hackinson crosscourt with it bobbled a bit now back out to day that
One short but another offensive board for the Trojans been big for them early hawis driving it scores and a foul so quick so strong she you could see she made that kind of that jab right coming back to the left J when she gets the
Defender kind of on her hip she uses her body really really well finishes with the left hand even though it’s five on five that reminds you of half court drills you do in practice where you okay you get theall at the top of the key or
The edge of the lane and drive it hard at somebody and see what you can get out of it and she did a perfect job of it there and I’ll tell you when you’re moving too without the ball you you create those Lanes cuz there’s no help
Defense so all you got to do is beat the one person defending you and there was a great move osmo getting into the lane and tulso knocks down a long two that was a two-pointer her first basket after four free throws El River back within three yeah and Oso made made that
Play nice drive getting into the heart of the defense turnover on the Trojans as El Rivers’s pressure pain off a little bit Cameron milky number 25 coming into the game now for Elk River amlot returning here so elks have now played Seven subing a little bit less frequently than we Zetta certainly but
They’re looking to get their players a little bit of R and then get the bench players a little bit of Rhythm as Well Christy cut off got it back out to Demar her Jumper’s good who’s on the line it’s a two but her fourth field goal already yeah she’s got it going and chrisy Drew the double team made the pass beautiful play there’s kenberg another offensive rebound After hide
Miss she just Sprints the floor right in front of the rim and if there’s an offensive rebound to be had she’s going to get it fair to say that Julie Stuart and her staff are glad that she decided to play basketball again after concentrating on volleyball last year oh
Wow Osterman a nice Up and Under for her first bucket you can see why these teams are ranked right now they’re playing pretty well and and get up and down I’m tired just watching the game they are transition getting quick baskets and good shots there’s a steal by
Osterman and then stolen right back by a day hackinson looking inside knocked away though by Christie and recovered by dear yeah three turnovers in about 10 seconds just getting up and down the floor and I think I mean you never love that but you kind of have to live with
That one that’s the way you’re going to play and there’s another steal by WIS Zetta kenberg nice pass hackinson missed it though Osterman leading it back the other direction and that’s going to be a foul as they knocked uh milky down as she was receiving that pass I’ll tell you in a
Game like this Ryan this is when you’re actually glad that you did that extra conditioning in practice right and when you line up and run sprints at the end of practice for the 10th time and you’re like why are we doing this it’s just like this cuz you can’t get tired
Especially if your if your MO is pressure defense and getting up and down you just can’t afford to be Tired and a quick double that’s going to be a jump ball good job by Hyde reaching in and tying up it will stay with El River but obviously that grants the next uh held ball to wetta ostman trying to turn the corner there the help D arrive though and it’ll
Be out off of [Applause] wetta that’s what a lot of times people don’t remember realize that defense are kind of two parts it’s it’s individual but then the help defense do the whole team there’s a look at Ryan Monahan was JV coach and then uh took over last year
As El’s coach they won 22 games I said Section 8 runner up to a very good St Michael Albertville team yeah both these teams lost to the two teams that were in the state championship game Hopkins and St Michael albertv block shot amlot all the way layup is
Good yeah a great defense again nothing easy this pressure defense just it’s intense and what it does is it speeds you up it forces you to go quicker than you want to go and and that can lead to turnovers and mistakes and that was going to be a
Shot clock violation if they hadn’t come up with that ball cleanly anyway Griff’s done a nice job after a turnover or a Miss of getting that steal right after wi Isetta takes possession oh banked in by hi I don’t know if she called glass but it’ll count Banks extended hours here during the
Holiday season hackinson looking to answer oops that one’s an airball so that three that banked in ties us back up at 20 a piece uh easy to see that El Grier’s not you know intimidated here against a really good opponent on the road as you look at Julie Stewart her
Third season as Trojan’s head coach yeah and you got to remember too that they they’ve played motanka they’ve played stma so they’ve played two of the best teams in the state already so yeah not being intimidated at all B Zetta basketball is they I think just signaled the wrong way there yep
Number under eight to go in this first half and it’s been a good one 20 to 20 and that one off Target and then a Big Time battle for the rebound and out of there with it was tulso oh nice throw ahead got oh not
Able to get it to go though and Kel ber yet another rebound one of the rare rare open looks too without someone right on you too I got a nice look OT the drive and dish but it wouldn’t fall and dear grabs the rebound here for the
Elks and dear with a big game here early on with nine points and Coach uh said she’s probably the most competitive player I’ve ever been around she just hates to lose at anything love that back cut there but the pass gets away as H couldn’t might
Reach it and again I think that’s a good example just being sped up a little bit christe returning to the Elk River lineup she’s been quiet offensively though has not scored [Applause] yet amlot coming out High to get it she’s got a size advantage on dear and
Takes it at her but missed it here’s kelzenberg another rebound oops and a little too aggressive by H there will pick up her second T you got to believe in a huddle I know it’s easier said than done but all right let’s get a body on
41 you got to be saying if you’re out gri here and you know what I love is that kelzenberg she’s not roaming the three-point line she’s on the Block so that shot goes up if you as a help Defender are at all out of position she’s going to seal you and probably get
That offensive rebound remember she’s 6’2 and she can jump and she’s used to playing volleyball where she uses that body and uses that athletic ability missed it there but a nice put back by Burns yeah that’s the thing with kelzenberg she’s tall she’s strong she’s quick and can jump that’s a hard
Combination to box out as as hard as you try and when you’re never out of position too Christie fouled by burns on the reach in there yeah both teams now with five fouls and that’s that’s the other thing with the pressure defense you’re going to get fouls you got to keep attacking
It and try to get you know not only the other team in foul trouble but get in that bonus where you can get some easy points I think it’s been a good mixture for both teams though are playing aggressive but not overly fouowing you know I’m oh nice look oops and then had
To save it and Osterman comes up with it and she let her just a little too much it was a right idea unselfish play and they go to Christie and she was pushed by kelzenberg there as they had a little different set that time kind of a double High
Post and that’s six so you’re going to be in the bonus for the rest of the way here if you’re Elk River I you got to keep keep attacking amlot out hackinson in here for the Trojans again well defended as they had an inbounds play but never really materialized and there’s a
Steal good look ahead ball fumbled there got it out of the double and then it goes out of bounds so there’s a G’s pressure paying off a little bit and when you think pressure you always thinking full court pressure but it in the half court it matters too and when
You get someone in your space and you’re trying to make a pass it it’s uncomfortable and it’s annoying and it’s you know I know as a player I hated when people would press you like that both teams doing a great job of doing it and just speeding you up maybe making a bad
Pass that you normally wouldn’t make and we’ll get a hand check foul on day there as Osterman put it on the deck I think you made a good point earlier Ryan that eler smaller overall but at times they’re using that to their advantage a little bit on some of these
Drives I feel quickness absolutely and I’ll tell you when you do this it’s it’s going to do one of two things one the pressure is going to back off cuz they don’t want to get foul trouble or you’re going to continue to get into the bonus here and Osterman
Definitely a good shooter got to take advantage of these getting these opportunities missed that one there first Miss at the line it stays 2220 Trojans nice drive oh just a little too strong with it on the hides Drive Elks a little trouble up court but they keep

Do yeah and they and that’ll be a tie-up I think ooh as Osterman pulled the ball away hard and I don’t think it was really anything intentional but that one didn’t feel good hit in the deck OT will check in and inbounded here for [Applause] wetta hackinson looking for the lob
Kenberg finishes it great pass by hackinson that’s not easy do you don’t want to throw too hard but you trust your teammate to just go up and get it how about finish him with the left hand too kenberg did a good job sealing so that that player couldn’t back up and
Tip it yeah she’s got eight points tonight she’s worked hard for him chrisy lost the dribble amlot up with the steel nice pass oh hackinson bobbled it though and dear up with it and fights her way out of trouble there kind of a scoring drought for both it feels like
The defense is starting to wear them down a little bit the offense hasn’t been very easy to come by lately dear falling as she tried to get that shot up and then we get a blocking foul over near the Trojans bench and that one will go against Hy that’ll be
Her third Pretty consistently called here I think I mean you know just where neither team has a complaint right they’re falling it pretty pretty equally on both sides dear had a great cut there I thought if she would have caught him been able to just gather herself gather
Her her balance she could have gotten a cleaner shot there yeah it was 1818 I felt like 5 minutes ago and then you’re right I think both defenses picked up a notch and neither offense really getting anything easy at the basket we talked about conditioning I I
Kind of seen signs of being a little tired at times yeah yep and sometimes it’s mentally tired too like you said when you’re getting pressured so much it it just kind of throws your game off I got to imagine eler doesn’t generally turn the ball
Over this much to be a you know a 5 and2 team but yeah and I think too it comes down to like if you’ve had three or four possessions with turnovers or no good shots you’re you’re pressured you just that’s speeding up so much you try to do
Maybe one more dribble than you normally would you force a quicker shot than you normally would so just got to slow down get what you want to get even against pressure [Applause] El gber after this one will be off from game playay anyway until early January so um they’ve got you know an opportunity as you said to try to go into a little bit of a break with a a good road would win and wetta meanwhile they will be playing but um they would
Like to get this one on their home court for sure Christmas is always nicer with a win right before you you feel like you can eat a little bit more you can enjoy [Applause] it HTI got out in the passing Lane and but my mistake incidentally that uh
There was a second foul on HTI there must have been one earlier that I mistakenly gave to her so I was going to say surprising to see her in a game but I’m looking on the board and they’ve got two for her [Applause] Dear trying to jump out and double now amlot will step in and fire that one wouldn’t go knocked loose and out of bounds off dear there yeah El Grier had three girls there around that rebound and I think just no communication they no one really grabbed it allow that to
Stay here with by Zetta Riley Kurt in there now for the tro oan inbounding it tried to go to amlot and she was fouled by dear who got caught just like a half step behind her there and amlot did a good job of you know squaring up and receiving that pass
Yeah she’s a smart player knows how to get F yeah when you think about footwork things that’s another example receiving a pass the right way if you’re not if you’re kind of just standing straight up there maybe that gets knocked away no but ready to catch ready to to maneuver
Good pivot foot all that kind of stuff it seems Elementary but the quickness and the preparedness of doing that is is the difference between scoring and and getting fouled or not not scoring not fou nothing remember heing a coaching practice you know asking a player about something like that and they said uh
Well I didn’t see her there well that’s exactly why you do it every time you get the Good Hat abits and assume somebody’s ready to steal it from you every time [Applause] yep amlot free throw good not sure what the quick discussion was among the officials there if there
Was I don’t know if they were discussing if was before the shot it was one and one or two I didn’t think there was any question there so six point lead here’s chrisy up and in really nice set too action to the right they send a cutter coming from the
Weak side Christie beautiful pass good finish too strong from the wing there by Hyde and then we’re going to get a jump ball call it will be wetta ball that last hoop felt like El River really needed that one they had been in a drought and yeah had got a basket in at
Least a few minutes I agree with you and in this game the way it’s gone six points kind of felt like sort of a big lead here there is some question on whose ball I think they’re they’re they maybe hadn’t changed the arrow the last time around
And it’s going to be a Elk River ball instead I admit I’m terrible about remembering [Applause] yeah and I think the the score table Fest up that we may very well have forgotten so and O going to be a foul on Cur and again that po pass coming from the top
And a defender’s got a pretty good angle there and I think Oak River lucky to get that foul call yeah they they got Kur reaching around on it tulso will shoot now here’s where though it helps you out to be playing nine or 10 likewise thata is uh foul
Trouble is a little bit easier to Avoid amot and of lost the [Applause] Handle [Applause] Hawkinson amlot with a back cut it wouldn’t go in there’s Kellenberg yet another offensive rebound yeah she’s been an absolute monster down low just grabbing scooping up offensive rebounds and she’s got nice touch too and she’s able to get that put back and she’s good
At just being subtle with a little nudge at the right time her body y absolutely without yeah without being called for a pushup I agree with you there’s an art to that no doubt inside and osmo recovers to get it they almost had the deflection again on the
Pass she did a good job not panicking there and it looked like it hit her head and actually the defender flew by and that allowed her to regroup reset and a quick put back so again another nice answer for El River amlot Baseline Drive and then back out Hawkins lining up a three wouldn’t go there’s cerr at the rebound she’s a good volleyball player as well but then the takeway by OST too fast too far and dear not quite able to run that one down as z
River thought they saw an opportunity to run but they didn’t have a great angle there I didn’t see him either that’s where if you’re ostman you want to keep your dribble get to the basket then Force the help that’s a hard angle to throw that ahead you’re absolutely right
There’s a great pass amlot misses but a nice job by Kellenberg eating up the offensive rebounds minute 20 to go first half wi Isetta by four nice Cut layup good there for high yeah beautiful cut beautiful pass that was good offense and that’s open against pressure you can get Cuts you can get
Back doors if you’re smart you can get easy shots against pressure Jamar in and out on that three and Cur the rebound and a again a rare open look uncontested those are ons you want to make amlot down to a knee to keep possession there a little Globe Trotter like [Applause]
Move under 45 seconds to go in the half hackinson oh nice finish pretty good help d by Christie that was not an easy shot tough angle too used her body really well finished with the left hand wi Isetta by eight chrisy looking to turn and go and she does yeah she’s
Given up a couple of inches there going against kelzenberg but that time just smooth footwork boy they’re battling down low kenberg and Christie and El River did get a piece of it they say they’re trying to plead their case officials are going to get together from
My angle it didn’t look like the defense touched it but we’ll see if uh if there’s an overrule or not no going to stick with we Zetta hey whatever look call is whether it’s right or wrong I love when they get together and just at least talk it out make sure
You make the right call at least that you agree on the call Nice Shot fake amlot missed she’s had a little trouble hitting her shots here but it’s still played well here in this first half long attempt at the buzzer and it’s wide right for dear so
We come to halftime of this one and a good first half of basketball we Isetta leading it by a score of 32 to2 26 their defense has been solid kellenberg’s been a monster as ran set on the offensive glass has helped them a lot and they’ve used their depth to a
Good Advantage as Well let’s go over to Ryan now with Coach Monahan hey coach you knew coming in this was going to be a tough one what’ you think there there the first half uh I think we’re we’re battling uh we’re all right I think we just have to do a
Little bit better job taking care of the ball and rebounding we gave we gave him a couple free points off of putbacks uh if we can do if we can do a better job on the glass we’ve been doing a good job disrupting them on offense take care of
The ball a little bit better in the second half I think we’ll be fine really impressed with both teams how you guys pressure defense you guys are really well really well coached defensively uh did you know you guys were that similar and that handling pressure was going to
Be an important part of the game yeah I mean I we do and that’s how we practice against each other too we we really go at each other uh so I we knew it was going to be a tough test cuz they have so much athleticism and just so much

We’re rushing a little bit I think if we’re patient and get the ball reversed you know we’re going to get good Rhythm shots we’re going to get better attacks we’re just trying to do it so quick good luck in the second half thanks for the minute all right back to you Jay thank
You Ryan and thanks to coach Stewart and uh certainly some of the same things we saw although I thought you know overall pretty good half considering they’re playing a good opponent both teams um at times you know being forced into things that they didn’t want to do and uh maybe
Committing a few more mistakes but I think you also have to kind of credit it that to the uh defense of the other team as well and uh you know in a lot of ways I thought wetta did certainly a lot of good things there and Ryan I kind of
Like the fact that they actually look inside a lot too a lot of teams all yeah no then and she and and you have to because she is that kind of athlete in size down low is just rare and if you got to utilize that and then there’s the
Old saying I know this is going to sound you know date me like back to the 80s but you play inside out and it doesn’t always have to be a post player but if you can get to the basket score from within then it’s going to create
Everything from outside so I I in both teams even Elk River getting some of those cuts to the basket too I think are really important yeah they’ve done it in different ways but they both have looked to attack in the paint a little bit too
And um yeah that can lead to shots from the perimeter too don’t get me wrong threes aren’t a bad thing but if you’re beating someone on the inside the defense has to collapse and that’s when you start opening up from the outside so I I agree 100% with you Jay be interesting to see as they come out you know just what little adjustments both teams have made I don’t think they necessarily saw anything they weren’t expecting to see from each other but sometimes seeing it in person against you know a long opponent a tall
Opponent can be a little bit harder than what youve practiced hey when you’re watching film on Katie Kellenberg and you say your coach is telling you she’s a good offensive rebounder you can talk about it until you get pushed out of the way or you get boxed out or or sealed
You’re absolutely right you don’t know um and you could tell you know from from coach Stewart there she was talking about just being sped up she wants her girls to slow down handle that pressure let’s get to our stuff let’s get our good [Applause] shots yeah interesting that she did say that and and is is accurate but at the same time I thought they did a better job of it than o River as the half went along of getting good looks anyway there speaking of good looks hide turning and
Driving that one finishing with the left hand yeah she caught in face and kind of did a double jab just easy move no help there it’s a great first possession they throw a trap nice job though by Demar to throw it up the sideline get out of it
Yeah that’s the worst place you want to be is right over half court in the corner with no dribble and a couple of guards that were giving up a lot of size to The Defenders on them too here’s dear Driving Miss but was fouled as she squeezed her way between a couple of
Defenders and they will get the foul call yeah it didn’t look like much room there but she kind of contorted her body to be able to slide through and not it an offensive fall draw the contact remember she was really the the engine for their offense kind of to
Start the game got those nine quick points misses the free throw there they started out good at the line but then missed a few late so now four out of seven overall h River from the line gets the second one to go and those are the things you got to make free
Throws when you’re on the road against a good team and you get those opportunities you got to knock those down amlot driving to the hoop and got a nice little screen and just made it look easy swooping in for the layup yeah she changes speed and controls her body really well when she’s
Driving helenberg at the top of that press presents problems for you too yeah he put that link oh Ker’s been able to you know they haven’t turned it over immediately against that but I think it’s been still a good defensive change for WIS taking them out of their offensive
Rhythm yeah that’s I mean it hasn’t come into play but that shot clock does matter right if you take 8 seconds off and maybe don’t get a a look initially in your offense and it you can tend to rush a little bit amot has to track that one
Down da played well in the first half so she gets to start the second half for the Trojans they have their biggest lead at nine reaching by chrisy yeah only her second second personal of the number 44 Kay chrisy Hyde will inbound here for wetta Hamot driving it into the lane kicked it
Out here’s hackinson nice look Dave from the corner and good for three yeah beautiful offense good patience hackinson drove you get that defense a collapse and she finds the freshman and D knocks it down a great shooter time out El gers again they threw that ball
Into a bad spot and got trapped along the sideline there good timeout that one look was looking like a turnover coming yeah this is what you want to see if you’re wi Zetta is coming out kind of setting the tone of the second half up six going into half now you’re you doubl
That you’re up 12 and you’re getting good looks you’re getting the kind of shots that you want to get every possession Marin day another of the up and cominging stars a 6- foot freshman who easily makes threes and she I wonder if she has a Nick is she all day yet or
Is she that or all day I like that yeah they got a couple of ninth grader Keyser too a good ninth grader 5’9 there there is a young lady who uh had a pretty good game today from what I understand the Trojans one of their all-time greats and now doing a heck of
A job at the U as well coach was saying she said I think she’s coming over after their game and here she is mar Brown yeah one of the greats I loved covering her I remember when she was a freshman going against Hopkins in some of those
Good section final games and she was the one one of the few players who did not back down from Paige Beckers and and get intimidated she went right at him and then she’s kept that same competitiveness in college and as a golfer fan it’s fun fun to watch well
And you mentioned earlier El Grier winning a state championship that came against page Beckers and Hopkins both teams were undefeated coming into the game but that was a shock that Elk River remember that year I mean that was the year they everyone thought Hopkins might you know just be unbeatable and Elk
River stunned them in the championship shot the lights out for that for that kind of a game they were perfect in that game and it was fun dear driving to the hoop and she will again draw a foul that is a a valuable skill to have as well
Just being able to create contact and get fouled and she’s kind of been the one one you know elk that’s not been afraid to do that consistently tonight her fourth free throw already here in the second half made the free throw of foul is on amlot so it’s a pair of number FES
Matching up they got quite a size difference but they’re both good players in their own way dear makes a pair so three out of four at the line she has a dozen points Oak River still down by 10 but trying to get a little something going oh nice
Pass two great passes helenberg that’s one where you want the hockey assist the second assist the pass to the pass there but I mean perfect fast break right ball never hits the floor two quick passes tulso answering as they do the same at the other end the alks do
Tul yeah tulso with eight points she’s kind of got in a coin here still Kayla Christie pretty quiet hacknsleep no good guess who kenberg winning the battle for the rebound hackinson will shoot that one no good is kelzenberg again floats it up and in I mean that’s two offensive rebounds one
Possession she’s just such a weapon down there if she hadn’t even scored a point tonight she’d still be having a great game but she she’s getting putbacks as well 10c violation against the Elks you look at the clock and I was going to say earlier Ryan the the shot clock has
Changed that I think too it feels faster than what tens used to be and referees are not counting anymore they are going strictly by the clock so it’s uh there’s no debating it right there’s no human factor to it it’s what the clock says
Yeah I think in a lot of ways you’d have to say it’s become more accurate but it sure feels faster than they used to be oh great cut great pass just missed the layup but beautiful Cut osmo back in there now for El River cut off inside it goes H with the left hand lays it up and in yeah gets into double figures and I think the advantage that she has is you know Kayla Christie is the leading scorer but she’s got kelzenberg Gardener right I think that’s
Part of kelzenberg too is how good our defense is I was just thinking that on that last play that will bounce and drop for marand day kenberg as well as she’s done rebounding she’s done a great job on Christy also yep and there’s a steal by
Hackinson and lost to she tried to cut between a couple of players lot of contact there could have maybe been a foul but and wetta is going to use a timeout as they can see they were in the little No Man’s Land there in the corner
How did that ball make it all the way through traffic all the way to the corner without being touched another look at this last one day have it locked and loaded and it gets the home friendly bounce and if people are you know young players
Watching why do I need to put back spin on the ball coach there you go right there if that’s a knuckle ball I don’t think there’s much chance it goes in well not only the spin J but arc on the ball right that’s another thing if you
Get that Arc you’re going to get more of those type of rolls if it’s flat doesn’t have a a good chance so wetta after leading by six at halftime has stretched the lead up to 13 up to 13 you know more and more as that half went on and then early into the second too it feels like they’re not having to work as hard for CH yeah they’re getting what they want Absol abolutely getting open looks and there’s a steel though by
Demar she will go all the way lay up is good she’s been really impressive tonight you see that defensively working hard she’s been that one that’s gotten to the basket drawn fouls gotten to the free throw line and chrisy up with the steel here then had to hit her thigh but didn’t
Panic got it back but sometimes that kind of play can get you going as a scorer so was always you know a lot of my coaches would tell me and I scored a lot and they’re like if you don’t got it going do something else get yourself
Going and a foul drawn there as hackinson was pretty sure she had all ball but official had a little body contact or a little too much body contact anyway and uh yeah I think the the block was clean but you’re right I think they got contact down
Below so hit going to the free throw line here for Elk River they’ just you haven’t seen to make much head we once it got to double figures when they’ve scored wetta has been able to answer yeah if you’re El River I think you want to try to cut
This down to like four to six if it keeps hovering in this 10-point range that’s it’s going to be a hard one to to overcome just with how good wia’s defense is you know nothing easy but there you know El River’s pressure able to get a turnover create a steel steel
In possessions that’s what they’re going to have to do H he makes some both so they are now to within nine amlot nice dish and then rake Away by tulso it goes out of bounds though it’ll stay with wi Zetta well you talked about team defense that’s a great example you
You cut someone off you go to help help the helper TSO there to to help otherwise that would have been an easy layup amlot dumping it inside here’s Burns chrisy just stayed down on that amlot driving it and no good Burns had it lost it as Osterman came up with it
Out of the pack there and gives it toar drive and that’ll be another blocking foul as H will go back to the line and again I like out River going to the basket taking that pressure and still just attacking the basket you they’re shooting more free
Throws this half two and making them as [Applause] Well H again hits to make it an eight-point game and will try and make it two for two didn’t do it but chrisy grabs the rebound well and you’d love to see Christy only four points on the night but doing that kind of stuff right get extra possessions getting offensive
Rebounds great steal there by Hyde and guess who isn’t in the game Kellenberg and that chrisy that might have contributed to her being able to get to that rebound Sam Johnson oh they it almost turned it over heer giving it back Johnson trying to punch it inside but dear up with the
Steel or ostman excuse Me nice pass dear from the top steps in shoots and hits yeah tell you what they’ve El Grier a couple of steals in a row slowly when it felt like wi Isetta maybe had all the momentum oh G doing a great job of getting back into this and there’s a
Three Knock Down by Sam Johnson I think it’s her first shot taken of the night and she buries it that was big too cuz it kind of fell o River maybe getting the momentum back stretches it back to nine after they’d cut the lead to Six dear keeps it moving over to chrisy short with that one and out of bounds offel rer now wholesale changes for the Trojans and here’s nice kick out late contestant yeah Sam Johnson averaging over for Five Points a game kind of does a lot of that dirty work
For them but got another 5’1 good height and a good looking shot there knocked it down that was a big one kenberg back in there gets it here at the high post this time hackinson driving she was fouled by hit and hit kind of turnabout’s fair play she’s been attacking and getting
Some fouls drawn this time she will be called for the foul and that’s a drive Jay where they’re trying to get the foul right I think that foul occurred almost behind the backboard that’s where if you just can just defend that without fing that L re that late reach you know you
Got to it’s a tough angle I know it’s tempting to just slap down with that arm but and it’s a smart offensive play too I mean that’s that’s part of it too is you’re driving hard and drawing contact is a skill and hackinson gets the roll makes them
Both and the lead is back into double figures at 11 couple friendly rolls on that basket here this [Applause] half Osterman almost lost it they tried to tie her up just got it out of there to Demar nice pass oh and tulso fumbled it and then it goes out of bounds I think
It was just a little low and that might be a good example of that pressure speeding up right it was the right play and I think if you if that Ball’s just about a foot higher maybe she can catch and gather and score That kenberg coming out to get it and going be called for the travel just kind of sh yeah right Call you know I I’d say this Katie kelzenberg is a great athlete playing basketball not a basketball player would you agree with that and I I’ll be honest
I don’t know ex you know how long I just know last year she didn’t play I don’t know how long leading up to that she certainly had played before but you know she she she’s doing great cuz she’s a great athlete and she plays extremely hard but you could kind of tell those
Feet were shuffling there oh nice step throw tulo gets it to drop plus the foul talented soft more for the El yeah she’s kind of picked up the scoring that that Christy normally would have Dave picks up the foul tulso has had three quick buckets here in the
Second half she’s got good good size good height and I she doesn’t have Kellenberg Garder and they’re taking advantage of it makes the three-point play back to an eight-point game just when you feel again like wi Isetta might be kind of slowly pulling away El River finds a way to
Respond helenberg looking to back Christy down oh nice step through missed it though and Christy the rebound I thought that time oh almost the steel did they get the steal they got it great hustle there by oh nice pass and Demar coming over to block the shot attempt
Though of good nature then Kellenberg will get a better series oh [Applause] man was just going to say I thought Christie really defended well on that against the initial kelzenberg drive but wetta heads up getting the steel staying with it able to get the basket this game
Not for the timid either they players getting bounced around a little bit back and forth there but a good finish ultimately by kenberg and that’s where I think christe might have the foot speed and the quickness to drive on the perimeter there and she just hasn’t hasn’t looked to do done that
Tonight hackinson keeps the dribble going now good nature trying to give it back to hackinson they got a little bunched up see this will be a tie-up yeah chrisy got both hands on that ball and that’s again I think where where coach Stewart was saying they were
They’re just speeding up a little too much right here’s a look at that wild possession there hide with the steel great pass here good block then it looked like dear was going to have it and then wi Isetta gets it back and kelzenberg with her 16th Point 16 points
I I would bet anything she’s in double figur rebounds oh yeah as well got to be uses both hands too right and left hand down there short on the three for hit nice pass amlot and get it back out almost lost big Scramble for it handed off and
Now it’ll be osmo ahead of the field for the layup yeah really I think the first transition points of the night for El River and it all stemmed from just great effort on the defensive end multiple girls getting on the floor diving for the ball kind of good Instinct for her
Too cuz sometimes you have to maybe gamble that your team’s going to get that and then you get to get an easy land you know when she averages 11.4 oh kenberg deep post position and just flips that shot up and over her shoulder it reminds you you know you you got
Kevin male used to run down and get you sealed and the defense really happens prior to her catching the ball you can’t let her get that that deep in that kind of position good nature committing the foul as they lobbed it into Telo here’s that that play for El River here great
Hustle and a good throw ahead and an easy basket here for Oso now I suppose if wetta had wound up with the ball they the coaches might ask her what are you doing down there cherry pick it right yeah exactly no an Oso only a sophomore too TSO sophomore so experience with El
River but also some Youth too a nice combination T six points in the first half and already has eight here in the second make it nine as they continue to kind of just hang in there yeah and I like Elk River has been to the free
Throw line a lot more here in the second half tells you they’re they’re they’re being aggressive and they’re getting good good shots nice little high low Burns turn around is good that time instead we switched positions kenberg was out high and burns down low
But a nice high low and he again a nice easy basket back to a 10-point lead now for wetta and Burn’s going to be called for the foul as she came out trying to get the steel maybe had her armor out on the waist of tulso a little bit perhaps I’m
Not going to say that wasn’t a fou but I that’s such referees just automatically call that don’t they when you come around like that and again it was that angle with Elk River we’ve seen him try to enter from the top of the key if she could take one more dribble
To her right she could lead her teammate right into the basket and telso really working hard down there too that’s kind of the good news for we Isetta or excuse me for El grber right now as though is at seventh team poou against wi Isetta they’ve only committed a couple so tulso
Missing and amlot the rebound nine-point game hackinson is as she drove [Applause] Baseline and he get nice job in transition amlot just making the right play not forcing it finding their teammate and you can see when you push that ball and you get into the middle of
The defense defense closes out it opens up driving lanes for everyone and a nice job by hackinson attacking gets the free throw to bounce in again yeah something with that wisett in that rim just get it up there and it’s going to roll around and go
In 11-point lead is that one nothing but net 5948 now Trojans were under seven to play Here Again El River kind of trading back and forth but they’re going to need to put together a little run if they’re going to have an opportunity to not just hang in this one but actually win
It back out to ostman out high and Christy receiving on the wing this I like to see if Christy would drive user speed they quick this nice pass get the open layup there for tulso yeah she’s going to end up with 18 she’s more than doubled her season average having a great game
Tonight and again it’s kind of hovered around that 8 to 10 point mark Grier staying in it but just can’t get enough stops to get to get really back into this game oh nice pass amlot cutting on the Baseline was fouled by Demar yeah we could see that develop
That was one of those where you’re throwing your teammate open she saw imot doing the going back door and kind of threw it to a spot really nice looking pass considering they don’t have many fouls that probably wasn’t a bad one to take not giving up the layup although
Force him to to make it yep I agree I’m lot trying to uh make them pay at least by making both free throws and does exactly that she now has eight points the lead back to 11 pass deflected amlot up with the steel and then almost turned over again
But then Burns got a shot up but couldn’t finish it yeah good hustle too by hitti there getting back and getting in the mix getting the ball back for a Team chrisy with that out High rotated around she’s got hackinson on her let’s see if they go to her see if she’s able to get a basket she will draw a foul and go to the free throw line here yeah remember they’re in bonus I would do
Anytime he’s able to get kelzenberg off of her I would go right to the block and see if he can’t get an easy easy [Applause] Look see if they’ll allow this last substitution looks like they do wow surprised they did that yeah already had the ball that was he was they I think if the horn had sounded they wouldn’t have but Christy misses the free throw and look at dear wi that battle for the
Rebound and score wow did you say she coach said she’s one of the most competitive people she had no business winning that loose ball but just determination alone got it and then she scored and there’s a steal by h on the entry pass that was a little off Target great help defense right
There Jamar lost to dribble a little bit she’ll Circle it back out no one smart not to force that there kind of reather Christy trying to go into tssa there’ll be a foul On Da coming over the back that’s going to be her fourth and that’s a call that they’ve been
Consistent on all night on post feeds for Elk River if wi Isetta reaching over the the back or to the side they’ve been calling it very consistently and again it was up to up to 11 wetta maybe getting the ball and then El River gets offensive rebounds
And scores now they get fouled and they doing a great job at just fighting to stay in this ball game and keep it under double digits timeout taken here by wetta as they lead it by eight 443 to go in the game it’s been a been a good one as we
Expected coming in we said both teams five and two and both have faced some good opponents as well and yeah it’s been a fun game I I’ve enjoyed it’s been good basketball I feel like both teams played well you’ve seen some some good talent it’s been fun to see talo kind of step
Up and and do a little bit more than she normally does and dear averaging 11 she’s up to 18 and then kelzenberg averaging 10 already up to 18 look at that J and there’s a both of these teams in the top 10 look at that late conference I mean minona St Hopkins
Lietta Maple Grove we’ve you know we’ve seen in Prairie yeah I mean almost the entire late conference in the in the top 10 so and El Rivers two losses I mean Rosemount very very good and stma second so no stranger to playing against good competition Trojans will be in action at
The Granite City Classic next week as uh they’ve got Minot North Dakota and then Lakeville North in the back toback days there kind of fun playing in those when you get a chance to play against teams from another state that you don’t know much about you don’t see
Very often it’s a it’s fun for the kids second free throw also good for tulso so eler to within seven yeah the lowest they’ve had it here in a while and every time wi that is needed to they’ve had an answer been able to score
Let’s see if they can again let’s see if Elk River does anything differently try to get it one more stop Here Dave nice pass to Burns oh I was going to say it looked like a foul it was a little bit of a late whistle but it seemed to be the correct call on interesting too the ref under the basket that had the view did not call
It came from the side but nice pick and roll on a great pass Burns will shoot free throws here for the Trojans you see also averaging in double figures one of four for wetta that’s in double figures that averages double figures missing this free throw they had been perfect at the line
In the second half prior to that one and missed them both but amot with a put back that was big one she doesn’t get that it’s seven going down you know really Oak River could have put some pressure on that’s a huge offensive rebound Osterman faking that shot
Defense recovered oh dear had it blocked by Burns oh good hands get the ball back Osterman will lead it back the other way chrisy had yeah it didn’t see first and then tulso is fouled and I actually thought Christie could have taken a dribble and scored but maybe unselfish [Applause] Play Dave will foul out on that play yeah good hands and the good throw ahead here too by Osterman yeah chrisy could have taken one dribble I think and probably laid that up yeah that’s a fifth fall on day as well also continues to make a living at the
Line here as she in the second half has now made Seven of eight W helenberg is back in for wetta and she had six at the half this is 15 points here in the second make 15 points in the second half and of course you jinxed it
It’s always it’s a broadcaster Jinx 8 point lead amlot driving it into the middle nice pass got it to good nature and was fouled by tuls so well great cut by good nature but I love amelot having the pace kind of holding it waiting for it to develop and again kind of throwing
Her open really good playmaking yeah good size as a a point guard you know to be able to look over the defense there too and strong enough too I think with pressure to kind of be able to hold it off and relax and and just let stuff develop not rush too
Really really impressed with her passing good nature made the first misses the second chrisy was doing her best to hold uh kenberg off there and then they get a foul call against the Trojans yeah that’s huge because that’s a double bonus I think they got hide on the reach
In there and that’s one of those that probably could have been a jump ball but ostman going to the line Twoot osterman’s free throw is good now has three points on the night yeah they’ve counted the line a lot Jay and they’ve made most of them too it’s it’s allowed them to kind of stay into this game makes a pair and the lead is seven let get back to seven let’s see if
El River can get a stop here hackinson bobbled it and gets the layup to go no incision whatsoever there went right at The Rim beautiful Play here’s chrisy fouled by hackinson yeah nice play and she hesitated again as it looks a little not as aggressive as she normally is and I
Thought she was waiting to pass it up and maybe it was just to set up that quick move coming to I like the scoop underneath too Sophie with four fouls Christie knocks that one down that when you if if wetta wins this one and you look at keys to the night the way
The job they’ve done defensively on Christie it’s got to be near the top of that list he has six points now after making a pair of free throws back to a seven-point game but again with time starting to become a factor they can’t really just trade points Here’s where shot clock kind of enters things a little bit too you might see them nice and the layup is good on a great cut by high say you might see them hold the ball a little bit longer but you know you can’t yep I agree with you
And really I think this second half that’s about the third or fourth great back cut that wisett has H too and so that’s that’s one way you can beat pressure as back dooring yeah good spacing that allowed that too christe the drive it was blocked Osterman gets it back thought
About a three kelzenberg deflected her pass two and a half to play wetta by [Applause] nine shot Puck winding down Christie going to have to get a shot up it’s short on the rim no good rebound amalo good defense good contest without fing there amlot the drive and dish back
To to hackinson then back to Hyde good decision there to pull back out that’s smart up nine 2 minutes run a little bit of clock Don’t force a quick three that’s smart [Applause] basketball get it down low amalo turning away from the basket Miss but saved in
All never hit the rim though they’ve got to get this shot up amlot and they’re too late I don’t think they realiz that the clock hadn’t reset people are still adjusting to that right that concept but that’s one of those things you got to practice and
Know when that ball doesn’t hit the rim it’s not resetting and I think you’re right amlot had the ball and had time where she could have probably made a good move but maybe just not recognizing that that shot clock running down I thought you were going to wear a sweater like that
That green Christmas sweater it’s a good week for it huh yeah I mean you only get so many opportunities in a season or to to pull it out so I like there it is I love it yeah you you had talked about this too like scheduling this kind of a game
Really I think this a game if wi Isetta is able to hang on here Elk River doesn’t walk away losing anything right I think they played well I think they competed and and certainly something to build off of as they go into their own conference play
Back door yeah and again El River doing a great job of they’re denying everything they’re making it tough but just a smart cut by Hyde and again having the vision of hackinson that time delivered it we’ve seen amlot deliver a bunch of those as well other thing that
Helps make that happen is you don’t have anybody kind of wandering into the wrong place to draw a defender in there either they were spread out spread out and Y I agree well and you know hackinson 58 but I you know amlot at point guard at 5’11 we’ve seen hide at you know
510 when you got the height too to see over a Defender it makes it easier to make that pass as well so not much margin for ER anymore for the Elks down by nine a little over a minute and a half to go and knocked away from chrisy the race

Games re face a little bit of adversity and you’re you know playing a team that’s just as talented as you or maybe more talented whatever throughout the year and that just helps to make you better and that’s what uh what coach Manan was saying that they’ve been playing some late Conference teams and
