Welcome to Warwick New York for gatekeeper and Heiser media’s combined coverage of the Warwick disc golf championships thank you as always to Cosmic disc golf dtown disc golf and Reaper disc supply for making this coverage possible I’m Nathan Johnson joined in the booth today by Dan Brooks Wells Dan who do we

Have on our card for this final round coverage hey what’s going on everyone we have Harry Chase who’s leading the way in second place we have David Fleck at neg 19 tied with him we have Matt hammeron also at neg 19 and last but certainly not least we have Steve

Brinster local at neg 18 so Harry is is five Strokes ahead right now but uh we definitely have a nice battle here going on so hole one we are we are playing the blue to Blue long to Long layout this is a par three 351 ft it is pretty pretty

Much uphill the whole way and then it drops off right behind the basket so leading us off here is Harry yeah definitely some Strokes to be made up by the other three members of the card but on this long layout here Anything Can Happen Harry looking to get

Off to a H start and that looks like a pretty great drive to get his round started yeah absolutely that’s I mean the way he’s been playing that’s not really a tester for him but there is some trouble behind the basket and I did forget to mention that

There is an OB patch on the left side it’s kind of surrounded by rocks you can kind of see it there as that disass and that is absolutely pinned to start his round great shot from Hammer we’ve seen him a couple times on Heiser Med Med coverage this year super consistent

Player sponsored by Prodigy we got David Fleck here I don’t know if we’ve seen him on Heiser media’s coverage before local kid out of Connecticut getting his round started off well scoots a little long but should be a putt yeah he’ll he’ll have something looking back at it too

Sometimes it’s a little bit uh easier to have that putt rather than looking at the abyss behind it raning out our card course designer am I correct Dan Stevie B yeah yeah I believe so I mean Steve lives right down the road um so he knows everything about

This piece of property and as you can see it’s one of the best shots yeah great shot to start off his round as well David’s got a tricky little putt here scooted a little long off the te just didn’t quite give it the height he needed yeah you definitely want that one

Back you to have that sort of putt on whole one you really want to make sure you don’t leave that one short cuz there’s not much trouble behind it yeah Harry definitely a must make but on hole one definitely I’m sure he’s feeling a little bit of nerves but

Definitely did not look like it that one right in the heart good way to get his round going try to take down this is an a tier round four of a four round a tier so could be a big win for him if he’s able to hold on whoa

And that is not the way you’d like to start off your round that was disgusting yeah there’s nothing you can do about that I mean Jesus but uh yeah I think I think Harry is the defending champ if I’m not wrong yeah I believe he’s a defending

Champ just so you guys know this is a two-day event so there’s four total rounds and uh we had played in the morning so everyone’s all warmed up so here we are at hole two this’s a par 4 522 ft this is a pretty unique hole you

Got to hit it’s little downhill shot tunnel and it’s got to either be a slow turn if you’re throwing a backand as a right-handed uh this is kind of the landing zone right here and then it’s a blind shot up and over this hill uh and you’re kind of trying to

Park this little basket cuz no matter where you are it’s a little tricky of a PT so the forehand is also uh definitely a doable route I’m not sure if it can put you in the greatest position though even if you hit the Gap perfectly looks like Harry got a little

Bit of ground play there not sure if it pushed enough to where he has that angle it’s almost like a U-turn right this hole it is off the T yeah I mean I would expect Matt to go with the backhand but he’s putting a forehand out there this

Might be a little early nope it sneaks by that little group of trees and yeah I can’t really tell if it’s far enough um or if it’s going to be kind of a weird angle into the basket yeah I think we’ll have to wait for their up shots to see

If these guys have made it into that right Landing Zone here’s that turnover that you mentioned David’s going to opt for it doesn’t turn it enough just kind of pushes it straight is that road out of bounds Dan no I don’t I don’t believe so see if Steve can bounce back after

That tough spit out probably going with just like a nice little turnover Rock shot and that is pretty good yeah absolutely now this might actually play out decent for David just because he got so far out he’s farther away from the basket but his angle might be a little bit

Better yeah can basically just play a straight to Heiser shot into the green through that Gap and he hits the pole oh I wonder if they know I wonder if any of them knew I mean I would think you hear the ding I think that was a

Pretty it was a pretty firm contact there but yeah definitely a blind shot right can’t see the pin from back there that’s for sure no no not at all probably a good thing you hit that pole as well because there is quite a steep drop off to the left and behind

The basket so there really wasn’t much else that was going to stop that frisbee right yeah these these guys actually got out just fine um this shot can be a little deceiving you see this is kind of where people are filtering in you if if you if you go through this Gap

You kind of want to push forward a little bit more than you think um to pin it yeah a lot of these disc kind of just fading out a little early oh this one’s going a little long nice little tree there to to slow him down but yeah that

Kind of just natural low speed finish of the disc going to give you this 25 footer or so coming back up the hill yeah that’s clean another great confidence Builder putt there for Harry he is came to play came to play today for sure rinster now after the tough spit

Out on the last hole he’s unfazed able to knock that one home basically hit in the same spot on the basket as that eight-footer did but this one decides to stick luckily here’s Matt Matt Prides himself on his putting always has a nice clean [Applause]

Putt I was going to say I don’t know about David but I know these other three guys I would be surprised if we see more than like one miss putt inside the circle yeah that’s that’s very fair cuz uh we yeah those you don’t you really don’t see Miss putts from from

Any of those other three and especially if they’re playing this well so far this weekend I’d expect that to continue absolutely we’re going to see some highlight putts this round all right hole three this is kind of a feature hole here just because of the way the

Basket is positioned you got to hit one of these two gaps climb the hill and then you have to softly kind of land a disc up onto this ledge if you blow by it man it’s a scary putt yet another precariously placed basket position we’ll see how aggressive

These guys get on their approaches but t-shots first Harry doesn’t look like he turns that one enough kind of pushes it a little too straight what do you think he’s going to be looking at from back there Dan he could depending on his footing he could have a Hiser up into

The basket but we’ll just have to see what it looks like when we get up there Hammer adjusts off of that he does turn it and I think he got a little kiss to the right which isn’t which isn’t bad he should be all right yeah I should just

Kick him up that hill a little closer to the pin oh that was fortunate I think I think if he if it would have Hiser out I mean you’re looking at getting deep into the woods on the left and it’s no good over there yeah I think definitely a fortunate break there for

David pretty deep Hiser release there from Steve going with a understable disc doesn’t quite get the turn I think he caught a tree there drops him down in the middle still has a chance to get up and down here yeah so you can see how there’s like a

Second level up there that’s kind of where you’re trying to land um I think Steve was going for the bottom of the hill cuz you can still make a putt unfortunately tags an early tree um but uh if you can get up to that second tier you can kind of throw a

Putter or a mid up to the basket uh but when you’re way down you kind of have to speed up and risk going past the basket on your up shot but yeah Harry here is looking like he’s in a tough spot yeah not a lot to work with there just

Kind of pitches a forehand out he might still have that uphill putt you were talking about depending on how far he got see what Hammer can do here yeah just pulled it a bit yeah kind of some tricky patent pending footing there pulls it a little bit catches a

Tree you can kind of give this a safe little run yeah that was beautifully done you can give it a safe little run but I’m telling you it kind of drops off on the other end too obviously not as severe but all of a sudden you’re looking at a 25 30 footer

And you miss that you’re going back and forth yeah so may maybe little emphasis on the little when we say safe little run don’t want to don’t want to give it a full bid that’s for sure David actually ended up in a pretty good spot he’s got this uphill 25 footer for his

Birdie knocks it down yeah well done D and Harry not a bad approach either from that rough on the left but finds himself very close to the wall has to go with the little Tomahawk little scuber he’s got Tricks that’s one of those putts you play in the backyard

Right you play you play putt yeah you can definitely make up a letter on that with that one usually yeah not one you’d like to have to break out in a tournament but yeah haris three down through three after that make and uh not showing signs of slowing down going out somewhere

Else guess we got some bees right moving on to Hole four probably the shortest hole in the course is a par three 289 hit this Gap straight and then kind of filter down this hill to the left a little tricky yeah it’s it’s a little tricky you just want to hit the

Main Gap and then you just hope to kind of make it down honestly yeah a lot of kind of skinny trees to miss late in the flight Harry just absolutely peers that line going to give him yet another putt inside the circle yeah made it look

Easy this one you can get in a lot of trouble if you go early and you don’t work your way down the hill um you you’ll find yourself with a pretty tough upshot we’ll see where that one ended up yeah David caught that first tree on the

Left we’ll see see what he’s working with hammer looked like a good line but just caught something up at the top of that Hill not too bad of a kick though Steve played this whole I don’t know couple thousand times probably yeah or more tempos down with the stand still yeah that’ll

Do David just going to jump putt hoping that Hillside just kind of pulls the disc yep does a decent job catches one of those late trees but think he’s probably got about a circle Edge put or so yeah I think Matt actually has a look here this is a tricky one

But no maybe not I was wrong I I think he had a look if he wanted but just opting for the layup not worth testing that ceiling that’s yeah I was going to say that that’s a good scramble his his his jump Hut was I mean his his approach was a jump Hut

But it’s kind of touchy and there’s a lot of trees to miss Harry just keeps it rolling no end in sight yeah all of a sudden a seven stroke lead four holes in here obviously still a lot of golf left but definitely feeling confident Steve

Chance here to make up a stroke on those two guys in second place drops that birdie Putt in the bottom of the bucket definitely one of the easier holes on the course but had its fair share of birdies and bogy all right moving on to Hole five this is a par three

368 it is very specific line if you’re right hand back hand you’re kind of throwing something that flips up and will Flex out kind of want to make it to the bottom of this Rock Hill to give yourself a putt um this is one of the more challenging holes on the

Course yeah 368 but quite a ways uphill looks like pretty much a p line from Harry yeah that was pretty good I mean at the very least I think he can just pitch up for his par if he doesn’t have a look at it this did play as the hardest hole on

The course at a 3.63 average so I think most of these guys are plenty fine with taking apart yeah that that really doesn’t surprise me there’s there’s just so much trouble to be had like it’s a very common mistake Steve just made looking like a good line out of the hand

For David here maybe a little underturned but sneaks through a couple of late trees there and give himself some sort of look this looks a little over turned but that that’ll be fine just a little pitch up from there so this also the way the pin is it also drops off pretty much

All around the basket and you can’t see the backside of it but it’s basically a cliff starting to become a common theme on this course at least on the front nine makes first some tricky decisions when you’re out there in circle two got to decide if if you’re willing to run

Something some something like this looks like he did I don’t know it looks like he gave it a bit but hard to tell with an uphill putt like that if you know he’s really I think Cam’s trying to make this for sure but see yeah if you want to get strokes on

Harry ah good effort yeah had the height tickle some of those chains you could hear him kind of listening to see if it was going to trickle down the back side of the hill but I think it’s stuck tricky look for Steve there on the

Back side of the basket just kind of had to pitch that one up this is kind of one of the better drives you’ll see on this hole yeah just a bit off it’s tough I mean you’re thinking oh how many birdie putts am I going to get at this and then

You’re thinking about the drop off behind it a lot of head games going on yeah not surprising to see no birdies on this all there were four on the day give some quick shout outs to Harris Reed Josh de patista Robert V and Zachary Mason Doyle picking up that

Bonus Bird yeah very nice all right whole six this is a par four 489 ft kind of a tight T shot you can throw uh most people throw backhand right-handed off the te Landing zone is somewhere in here or near the short basket uh and then from there it’s kind

Of an easier Hiser with a putter or mid up and in uh but it’s really about getting clean off the drive something on a a pretty good Hiser that flips up and rides and finishes on aiser kind of like this kind of exactly like that yeah pretty much ped from Harry going to

Have probably less than 200 in with a nice little putter up shot from there that one’s just a bit pulled out of the hand from David catches one of those right side trees going to be a tough scramble oh and now Hammer with the early release uhoh don’t worry buddy I did that

Too what’s it what’s it like in there do we want to know Dan uh no it’s just green and it’s it’s it’s you know thorny but Steve yeah not fun Steve showing you how to do it matches Harry it’s also green where Steve is but just more exciting

Yeah yeah hammer having to go to the forehand roller trying to still get around this corner pushes it a little bit too straight kind of found that backside of the Fairway yeah this is about this is about all you can do you just need to pitch it up um back into the landing

Zone I don’t know if it’s Poss to get there but maybe he’ll show us something looks like he might be going roller and now just turn over forehand think he caught something there in the middle of the Fairway kicks him back off to the right yeah not ideal guessing this is a

Rock just nice and easy yep subtle little ground play another kind of not quite as drastic as we’ve seen on some of the other holes but little bit of a drop off behind the basket here distance control important Harry kind of juices that one skips off

Those rocks a little bit going to have an uphill comeback or putt this is a problem you don’t have every day no no definitely not it again like we were you know like we’ve been saying it’s kind of a common theme like your up shots even

If you’re close uh you always got be very careful with them you can’t just blast past I think that’s a you know a tenant of good course design yeah yeah especially like the most difficult you know layout long to Long right mhm just a bit low from David there just

Hasn’t quite connected on those circles Edge looks with the putter but you know this guy is going to be near automatic from 30 ft good bogey save there from Hammer limit the damage St to grab some Strokes [Applause] huh very well played [Applause] textbook there a drop in par from Harry

Yeah no damage done I mean obviously from the drive he had he wanted to he wanted to birdie it but so is life all right whole seven par three 440 ft this is a blind shot you kind of want to throw a straight disc that’s turning and kind of dropping and

Kind of gets under these trees and flexes back out as the right hand backand throw I’ve also seen rollers um but this seems like a bonus birdie very specific line yeah not too much danger per se on the whole but definitely a very specific line to hit if you want to give yourself

A putt look like a really nice shot from Steve comes up a little short left so might have to kind of work his way around that tree down there here’s the roller play from Harry this just kind of ensures that you’re not going to hit one of those middle

Trees um but he cuts it a a little too early just kind of dried up a bit Short Grass looking pretty thick back in July when this tournament was played it’s always there these low ceiling downhill shots I always find tricky to get that nose angle right get the right

Amount of turn on the disc Hammer does a pretty good job there Fades out a little early but should have a putt yeah I think he got past those Guardian trees I think he’s Pinn High oh and this is smoked whoa that was an ace wow yeah holy crap okay that’s really

Unfortunate to be where he is he should be up near the basket a little bit more man I think that tree saved a car windshield or maybe juston yeah potentially open putt here for Steve on the left side of the green knocks it down little bit of an assist there from the tree

Branch but I don’t know if it would have made a difference we’ll never know it’s true open putt here for Hammer as well call it just outside the circle steps it through and just sneaks it over the rim two birdies on this tough whole seven yeah that one even tried to bounce out

Really clean putt and a little bit of a tester coming back yeah that’s a tough one I do I do like the Run um just a tough one coming back yeah yeah David you got to make up some Strokes somehow on these guys right just unfor final round yeah yeah got to

Push going to end up dropping another stroke here only five birdies on the day for whole seven you saw two of them the other three were Paul Kon Kyle morard and Joshua sarra all right moving on to Hole eight it is a par 4 434 weird little u-shaped hole once

Again got to get out the Gap into the grass is where you want and then you have to get over this OB kind of a flick around the outside side is what most people do uh and then the road to the left plays OB so this shot is kind of dealer’s

Choice you can throw whatever you like putter mid backhand forehand just make sure that you get out the Gap and give yourself an up shot yeah looked a little underturned from Steve I’m not sure if it made it all the way out going to be tricky lie this looks a little better from

Hammer yep I got out and the farther it goes down the hill the farther away he moves from the basket but he’ll definitely be happy with that har opting for the forehand as well oh it worked out yeah low out of the hand but looks like it got a nice

Flare skip there at the end you can see the short basket down [Applause] there I also forgot to mention if if you saw it off too much there is OB on the right side of this wooded Fairway but we’re not going to have to worry about that for anybody and that was smoked

Out yeah almost a little too far there from David but dries up just before those backside trees yeah here is where Steve ended up just caught something late going to have to opt for just a little Pitch Out forehand to get him back into the Fairway but it’s well done

Should be pretty straightforward par safe from there yeah so here’s here’s the challenge of this shot moving it uphill and making sure it doesn’t heer out into the OB and that was well executed yep just got to make sure you commit to this one don’t leave it

Short nice line from Hammer says leaks it a little bit deep but that’s definitely the Miss to make yeah that’s definitely a common make especially from way back there there’s these these branches that overhang uh that can catch a lot of discs uh so people just kind of

Try to blast past it but Harry Harry doesn’t care about those branches he just Parks it nice shot from him actually a long jump putt from Steve gives it a decent effort there boom Hammer is dial with that little step through putt from just outside the circle starting to make some moves

Here going to be hard to catch Harry but putting himself in a nice position to you know try to lock up that second place finish nice putt from David as well grabbing that birdie it’s a good bounce back mhm yeah unless unless Harry you know we got

We we got a lot of holes to play left uh play yet but unless Harry starts finding some boogy Strokes I think we uh going to have a tight battle for seconds though ho nine par 4 489 ft OB on the right uh OB straight kind of in this

Little Island OB you’re kind of just blasting it past uh the right side and then having a little Chip Shot into the green the left side rock wall is also OB next to the pin yeah this is by far the most birdied hole on the course just looking to put something in

Bounds should be a pretty straightforward up and down for these guys you canit there’s like a cheater Gap there’s like a cheater Gap through the middle over the OB if you want to try and get the two but nobody ever really goes for that I don’t think it’s

Really worth it I think from the short tead people do it and it’s it’s definitely tual from there but for the most part people are just blasting something up this right side yeah not really worth going for in a tournament like this just looking to not lose any Strokes to the

Field hopefully pick yourself up a nice easy birdie three good t- shots so far see if Steve can do the same Steve taking a little higher route wanting to get a little bit more left oh wow look at that look at that skip this grass is pretty high that was

Kind of surprising I wonder if it hit a rock or root or something maybe that whatever that patch is over there is that a tead I don’t know yeah I’m not sure pretty much wide open up shots for these guys from less than 200 ft should be prettyy straightforward nice little chip

Forehand there from Hammer yeah I I like the forehand better than the backhand cuz the the natural finish of the disc is going to end away from the OB uh so anyone who has a forehand I’m just expecting them to go with it little short tester from there from for Harry

St he’s actually got a long jump putut thanks to that big skip that the disc took see if it gives it a little bid wow not good effort yeah yeah all right only real tester on the card going to come to Harry here 22 footer or

So but that’s not a problem today n de Center I think he’s six down through nine holes very solid front nine like I’ve said multiple times he he defin came to play looking to looking to lock this thing up as soon as possible yep and this was the easiest

Hole on the course to par played 46 under par a nice little star frame to round out our front nine Hammer with the style points there as we take a look at our shot of the round Contender of course this upshot from David Fleck on hold number two

Catching a little bit of metal on its way in sticks it right next to the pin thank you to the Norse gods as well as our patreon family for making this coverage possible make sure to head on over to Heiser media’s YouTube channel for the back nine and the exciting conclusion of this

Year’s Warwick disc golf championships we’ll see you There

  1. Fleck on the POLE on 2 !!! Harry w/the scoober on 3. LOVE watching these Eastern regional players!

  2. I got to play this course a few years ago on a trip to upstate New York. Definitely one of the best park style courses I've ever played. I wish I had the time to play the other courses nearby.
