The BEST Golf Downswing Drill I Can Possibly Give You | You Already DO THIS

In this golf instructional video brought to you by David Leatham Golf, DL Golf Tips, I’ll unveil my best golf downswing drill to help you achieve the perfect golf downswing – a move that you very likely already have within you. I’ll demonstrate how this move that almost everybody can do is waiting to be unleashed with a golf club during the downswing.

Throughout this tutorial, I’ll reveal the missing link between you and the perfect downswing in golf. The downswing golf drill I present will initially exclude the golf club, allowing you to grasp the sensation and mechanics of the golf downswing in its purest form. By practicing this motion without the club, you’ll swiftly tap into the muscle memory required for a perfect golf swing.

We’ll then transition to introducing the golf club, focusing solely on the right arm in the downswing, to further refine and solidify this perfect golf downswing movement. With each step, you’ll feel closer to embodying the mechanics synonymous with the perfect golf downswing.

As the session progresses, we’ll seamlessly integrate these newfound skills into hitting golf shots. Witness firsthand how harnessing this sometimes dormant skill within you can remarkably transform your golf downswing, mirroring the fluidity and precision exhibited by PGA Tour players.

By the video’s conclusion, you’ll not only comprehend but embody the essence of the perfect golf downswing. Remember, the potential lies within you, waiting to be unleashed with the right guidance.

Hey golfers and welcome back to my channel in today’s video we’re going to be taking a look at how you potentially already possess the perfect D swing okay and I hang with me on this I can guarantee that the majority of you watching this already possess it you

Just haven’t got it with a golf club in your hand yet so I’m going to break that down for you today’s video if you haven’t done so already please don’t forget to hit the like button hit the Subscribe button and let me know where you’re watching from or if you have any

Questions about the golf swing you’d like me to answer in video format all right guys let’s get stuck in so before we get into discussing how you already possess this move I want to talk a little bit in detail I’m going to kind of glance over this I’ve done numerous

Videos on the right arm in the down swing and this is where this is all going to make sense in a moment now what does the right arm do it is such a key arm basically for the golf swing in particular the down swing and the back swing too but down swing

How should it behave just quickly going to glance over this top of the Swing the shoulder would work in external we’ve talked about this in previous videos okay and in the down swing it would go more into external okay my hips would be starting to push back they’d be starting

To open this elbow would be coming down leading my trial hand I’m holding some angle in the right wrist being ready to to get some shling and impact and release that out here okay so I know that’s a little bit of a brush over it’s

Like the back swing and down swing in 30 seconds but ultimately that move would produce very good golf shots golfers on TV you’re going to see very much those type of movements in the GOL swing body rotation elbow and front Trail show all those things right but let’s simplify it

And think about how do you already possess that but potentially not with a golf club because what’s going to happen is most golfers are going to do the opposite of these things we get Trail shoulder internal at the top maybe right elbow flying elbow separating we start

Down get to impact where or pre-impact where the elbow is behind the hands we’re starting to scoop or early release this way and our body can’t turn on that because if we do we’re going to head so far to the right so the body has to stop

In order to compensate again that’s for another video let’s think if you are watching this and please let me know in the comments if you can do this or if you can’t you need to go practice it right and it’s easy to do because you can just

Go to a lake or the beach if there’s no waves and it is skimming a stone right now hang with me you’ve probably heard this before I know it sounds mad if you can skim a stone you can have an unbelievable down swing when you get that motion into your golf club all

Right so I know it’s a golf instruction video but I’m going to talk about skimming a stone okay so a little bit random what does it take to skim a stone right we’re going to stand side on this way we’re taking the ball and if you are

Ever at the beach or the the lake or try this right because really as my coach used to get me to actually do it take the golf ball or stone obviously right index finger thumb okay now how do we do it we’re going to go keep an angle in

Our right wrist obviously to be able to flick and skim the stone we’re going to have an element we’re side on by the way we’re going to have an element of rotation watch what the trail arm is doing it’s going back so external we wouldn’t skim a stone and try and do

This with their arm which is what we sometimes do in the Gulf swing we’re going to go here now as I start down essentially to skim the stone I’m going to be starting to shift my weight or pressure into my left I’m not firing the arm this way you wouldn’t

Skim a stone by just firing the arm like that you would be here moving into my left look at the rotation from this angle you’re going to see there really nice impact watch the trail elbow there leading because this is where we’re going to get the power to do

That okay you’re going to skim the stone arm would be straight out here you release the stone away and it skims hopefully and let me know in the comments what your record is I think mine was 17 that was a nice lovely stone and a lovely Flat Lake I think I was

Young when i h i I could do I so motion and I’ll put these in slowmo we’re here right we’re skimming that way now you look at that in slow-mo and you see that the body movement that I’m creating is very much like a good golf swing okay what else is it good

For say you’re coming out of posture in your golf swing even in the back swing or potentially down swing how would you skim a stone you get quite low don’t you here that way so work through and try it okay even at the range depending on the price of the

Range balls you could start skimming a few balls out there it’s a really nice motion and it transfers perfectly into the Gul swing okay now Stone skimming tutorial now finished okay what I want you to do after you’ve done that a little bit take the club in

Your right hand only okay now see emotion that you get here right skim through back skim look at how everything is kind of working right arm and three okay so you’re transferring the feeling from skimming the stone into a golf club and then Golf Club into ball I don’t recommend you try

This but because it’s YouTube and hopefully my new picture of my favorite course doesn’t get smashed here I’ll try a right-handed shot can’t guarantee this will work very well but if not you’ll get a good giggle in the comments so here left hand behind the back

Back yeah way out of the toe you can try that okay don’t worry if you can’t do it after a few shots you’ll probably fine you’ll be able to do it but quite a nice feeling just right hand swings no ball get the sensation and that was a little better

So once you feel it right hand only bring both hands on and just feel the same motion with both hands on the golf club and so you can see how we’re kind of scaling this in terms of you know me it’s all about the repetitions here and I transfer that se

Feeling into the GF shot that way okay so guys honestly it’s mad but most of us can skim a stone and if you can skim a stone you can have an unreal downswing okay think about it in that way it Traves exactly the same as

It would like you see the guys on TV hitting go shots and this right arm is the key for that all right guys thank you so much for watching if you haven’t done so already please don’t forget to hit the like button hit the Subscribe button let me know in the comments your

Stone skimming record I’d be curious to find that one night and I’ll see you guys in the next video

  1. Hi David its a position I’m working on so hard to achieve,i understand the concept, it’s only when I record my swing I see my hands are out racing my right elbow, but 2024 will be the year I crack that early release move, even if I have to spend all day on a beach skimming stones. 😂 thanks for all your YouTube content have a great Christmas and looking forward to more great content in 2024

  2. Very well illustrated, Dave! It's exactly what I should practise a lot. Being a lefty in non golfing life skinming a stone with my right arm is quite challenging, but I now need to excel on it. With my left arm I am sure I can skim it 6 to 8 times at best. Merry christmas to you and your loved ones and best wishes for 2024 from Austria! Thanks a lot for your videos, you helped me to improve quite a bit in 2023, looking forward to your content in 2024 (also with some vlogs on course?)

  3. David, I got back into golf about three years ago (58 yrs old, 10 handicap) and have struggled so much with club face contact. Randomly stumbled onto your channel yesterday and watched several videos. It wasn't until I saw the ProSendr video that it finally clicked to me that I've been releasing my right wrist, etc too quick, and this particular video really speaks to that issue as well. Love your channel, and I really appreciate your input. Best to you over this holiday. (Kansas)

  4. This makes so much sense and I can still skim a stone. I will be out on the range in the morning working on this. Thanks David – much appreciated!!!

  5. Wow!! I can skim a stone !! Never thought of golf swing like this… Great video David looking forward to getting range now

  6. I was just learning about the Pete Cowen tennis ball drill, same idea. Seems like a really easy drill to do at home.
