Will Mike Tomlin be Steelers’ head coach in 2024? | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
https://www.youtube.com/NFLonNBC

AND THERE’S BIGGER ISSUES. I THINK WITH THE STEELERS AND TOMLIN THAT THAT WILL UNFOLD DEPENDING ON HOW THE SEASON PLAYS OUT. THEY CAN STILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS AND ALL THIS COULD BE FORGOTTEN BUT BOY, THEY BETTER TURN LET’S HOPE THEY DON’T

LET’S HOPE THEY DO. WORDS, IT’S WELL, IT’S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR. I WANT TO SEE THEM. THEY’RE NOT ONE OF THE BEST SEVEN. I KNOW I KNOW WELL THEN THE CONVERSATION WE’RE GOING TO BE HAVING AFTER THE DUST SETTLES ON THE

REGULAR SEASON IS WITH THE STEELERS DARE. INITIATE A CHANGE OR IS TOMLIN THE ONE WHO’S GOING TO SAY, I THINK IT’S TIME TO MOVE ON AND THE WILD-CARD IS WELL THE COMMANDER’S CALL. WELL ANOTHER TEAM CALL AND SAY

PRESSURE THINGS. MAYBE AREN’T WHERE THEY NEED TO BE BETWEEN WHO? AND MIKE TOMLIN. YEAH, WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO GET HIM NOW? ACKNOWLEDGING THAT HE’S GOT ONE MORE YEAR BEFORE BECOMES A FREE AGENT AND I WAS TELLING SOMEBODY THIS RECENTLY

COACHES NEVER BECOME FREE AGENTS VOLUNTARILY. THEY NEVER SAY I GOT ONE YEAR LEFT ON MY CONTRACT. I’M FINISHING IT OUT. AND THEN I’M GOING TO GO WHEREVER I WANT TO GO IT NEVER HAPPENS. IT’S NEVER STRATEGIC LIKE WE SEE WITH

PLAYERS AND THERE’S NO SALARY CAP. YEAH, THERE’S NO FRANCHISE TAG. I FEEL LIKE IT’S PART OF OF THE IT’S LIKE FEAR BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTAND THERE’S COLLUSION AND IF YOU IF YOU TRY TO DO THAT, MAYBE THE OTHER OWNERS WON’T

TAKE KINDLY TO IT BECAUSE YOU DON’T WANT TO CROSS THAT BRIDGE INTO FULL-BLOWN COACHING FREE AGENCY, BUT THAT’S WHAT TOMLIN COULD DO. YEAH, HE COULD SAY YEAH, I’M STAYING ONE MORE YEAR AND THEN I’M GOIN WHEREVER I WANT TO GO AND I THINK

THAT THAT HE WOULD CLEARLY HAVE SUITORS IF HE DOES. I DON’T EVEN THINK IT’S CLOSED. YOU KNOW, I KNOW I BROUGHT UP WASHINGTON A FEW WEEKS AGO THAT TO ME WOULD BE A PLACE WHERE IF I’M WASHINGTON AND YOU’RE LOOKING

HEY, WE NEED A GUY THAT’S HERE. HE’S BEEN THERE HE’S DONE THAT HE KNOWS WHAT IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND HE CAN GET ALL THE TROOPS IN LINE EVERYBODY FRONT OFFICE LOCKER ROOM TRAINING STAFF WEIGHT ROOM ALL OF IT. SO

THAT’S WHERE I WOULD GET THAT I CAN SEE THE STEELERS MAYBE BEING HEY, YOU KNOW OVER THE MIKE TOMLIN ERA I COULD ALSO SIT HERE AND GO I CAN SEE MIKE TOMLIN BEING OVER THE STEELERS. I DEFINITELY CAN’T, YOU KNOW, WE COULD

TALK ABOUT MIKE TOMLIN AND ALL YOU WANT BUT IF YOU REALLY WANT TO UNPACK IT, RIGHT? I THINK A LOT OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE STEELERS. WE KNOW THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATORS IN ISSUE AND THEN WE CAN BLAME THAT ON MIKE TOMLIN. WE CAN

GO THROUGH THE LAUNDRY LIST OF OTHER THINGS WHERE I GO THAT AIN’T MET TOMLIN’S PROBLEM SOMEBODY ELSE CAUSE THAT PROBLEM FOR MIKE TOMLIN AND WE PUT THAT ON HIM QUARTERBACK SITUATION. I DON’T HATE THE GM OKAY. SO THERE YOU GO. THEY

DRAFTED A QUARTERBACK THAT IT’S AFTER YOUR TO AND THEY’RE ALREADY TALKING ABOUT. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH QUARTERBACK? NAGI HARRIS FIRST ROUND RUNNING BACK PICK HE’S A HE’S A GOOD SECOND RUNNING BACK OFFENSIVE LINE ISSUES FOR WHAT

FIVE YEARS IN A ROW NOW MIKE TOMLIN 8 THE GM AGING FRONT SEVEN CAM HAMMERED AT THE END MISS SON. DEVON BUSH AT MIDDLE LINEBACKER, RIGHT? SO THERE AIN’T LIKE, IT’S TJ W AND CAM HAYWARD AND MICHAEL FITZPATRICK ON DEFENSE

AFT AND ALEX HIGHSMITH. I’LL GIVE HIM THAT AFTER THAT AND AIN’T NOBODY WORTH WRITING. HOME ABOUT SO LIKE FOR PEOPLE TO THINK THAT THE STEELERS SHOULD BE ALL OF THEIR OFFENSE WAS BETTER AND THEY HAD A BETTER OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR. THEY’D

BE SITTING HERE AT YOU KNOW, NO GOOD AT 12:00 AND 2:00 OR SOMETHING. THEY’RE INSANE THERE IS ISSUES WITH THIS ROSTER THAT TOMLIN’S COACHING AND CULTURE HAVE OVERCOME THAT SO THAT’S WHERE I WOULD GO FOR PEOPLE TO ALL SIT HERE AND

BLAME IT ON MIKE TOMLIN, YOU KNOW, THERE’S SOME THINGS TO BLAME ON HIM, BUT THERE’S A LOT MORE TO BLAME ON OTHERS AND THAT ORGANIZATION NOT NAMED MIKE TOMLIN. AND AS I’VE SAID AS A RELATES TO SOME OF THE FORMER

STEELERS MINORITY OWNERS WHO GO ELSEWHERE AND ARE NOT GREAT OWNERS BECAUSE THEY’RE TOO INVOLVED WHETHER IT’S JIMMY HAS I’M IN CLEVELAND FORMER STEELERS OWNER BUYS A TEAM DAVID TEPPER AND CAROLINA FORMER STUDENTS OWNER BUYS A TEAM. II THINK THEY’RE THEY’RE INVOLVED

BECAUSE ART ROONEY IS KIND OF LOW-KEY VERY INVOLVED MAKING DECISIONS DOESN’T DOESN’T ATTRACT THE SPOTLIGHT DOESN’T WANT THE SPOTLIGHT AND BECAUSE THE TEAM IS COMPETITIVE MORE OFTEN THAN NOT NOBODY EVER SAYS WHY IS THE OWNER INVOLVED IN THIS PLUS? HE’S GOT A

LIFETIME IN FOOTBALL. IT’S FAMILY BUSINESS. SO WE DON’T QUESTION THE SAME WAY THAT WE DO SOMEBODY WHO MAKES BILLIONS ELSEWHERE AND BUYS A TEAM AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THINKS. HE’S A FOOTBALL EXPERT LIKE DAVID TEPPER DOES BUT I’LL SAY THIS. ED BICHETTE WHO

ADD THE TEAM FOR YEARS SAID A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO THAT IT WAS ROONEY THAT ORDERED TOM AND THE FIRE MIGHT CANADA NOW LOOK EVERYBODY THOUGHT CANDIDATE SHOULD GO BUT THAT’S THE KIND OF THING THAT THAT HAS GOT TO MAKE TOMLIN

IN HIS 50S NOW SAY I DON’T WANT TO BE MICROMANAGE LIKE THAT. I’M TOO OLD FOR THIS CRAP. IT’S ONE THING TO TELL ME AFTER THE 2011 SEASON WHEN I WANT TO BRING BRUCE ARIANS BACK. HE’S TOO CLOSE TO BEN ROETHLISBERGER

WERE NOT OFFERED HIM A WE’RE BRINGING IN TODD HALEY TO RUN THE OFFENSE AND THAT’S OUR CALL. NOT YOURS. 2011 FINE 2024 NOT FINE, AND AND AND I THINK THAT IT JUST FEELS LIKE IT’S MOVING TOWARD A DIVORCE AND TO YOUR POINT.

IT’S MORE LIKELY TO BE INITIATED BY TOMLIN THEN THE STEELERS ESPECIALLY IF SOMEBODY ELSE IS OUT THERE WILLING TO GIVE THE STEELERS SOMETHING IT’S NOT GOING TO BE THE JON GRUDEN TWO FIRST ROUND PICKS TWO SECOND-ROUND PICKS AND

BUT IT’S GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT WOULD MAKE THE STEELERS SAY OKAY FINE. WE CAN STILL SAY WE NEVER FIRE A COACH WE’VE NEVER FIRED A COACH. INSTRUCT KNOW EVEN THOUGH CHUCK NOLL WAS KIND OF PUSHED. WE’VE NEVER FIRED A COACH.

THEY ALL LEAVE ON THEIR OWN AND WE KEEP THEM FOREVER AND NOW’S THE TIME FOR MIKE TOMLIN TO CHOOSE TO LEAVE, BUT WE NEVER FIRED HIM. WE GOT A FIRST ROUND PICK OR A SECOND ROUND PICK OR WHATEVER ROUND PICK IN

EXCHANGE FOR HIM. I COULD SEE IT PLAY OUT THAT WAY AND BETWEEN HIM AND BALANCE CHECK IF I’M TRADING FOR ONE OF THE OTHER I KNOW WHO I WANT RIGHT NOW. I WANT TOMLIN. I AGREE NOT BALICHEK RIGHT

I’M GETTING 20 YEARS OUT OF TAMA YOU EXACTLY YOU’RE OF TIME THAT’S FOR SURE, YOU KNOW BELICHICK COU COURSE, YOU KNOW STOLE, YOU KNOW, STILL DOES SOME GOOD THINGS. WE KNOW THAT WE SEE WHAT THEIR DEFENSES AND HE’S A DEFENSIVE COACH SO WE CAN’T

FORGET ABOUT THAT. BUT YEAH THE END OF THE ROAD YOU KNOW AS FAR AS THE AGE HOW MUCH LONGER HE’S GONNA GO, WRITE SOME OF HIS BELIEFS AND RAJ. ESTHER BUILDING, I THINK THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT WOULD SCARE ME ABOUT

BELICHICK AS COMPARED TO MIKE TOMLIN LIKE YOU’RE LIKE YOU’RE SA

  1. If Belechik was coaching the Steelers with the talent they’d over the years they have 5 more rings! Tomlin won his ring with Cowher’s players.

  2. They [Simms & Florio] never have this protection energy shield for Bill Belicheck that they have for M.Tomlin, I wonder why

  3. The Steelers are S.O.L'd if Mike Tomlin leaves right now. And who are you gonna find better than him?

  4. Wow Chris Simms, I’ve never been a huge fan of yours, but your perspective on the Steelers is the most prudent and unbiased in media. Keep talking sense about them. I love them, and we need realists like you.

  5. If the Steelers could get a first and second round pick for Tomlin in next year's draft, plus a second round pick for Pickens and a third round pick for Deonte Johnson so they would have a total of two first round picks, three second round picks and two third round picks next year they should absolutely go for it.

  6. The Rooney’s have far too much control over that team. They have just as much as Jerry Jones but are low key about it!! Look at the way they still want it ran like a 1970’s team that’s not Tomiln! I remember when all this was said about now saint Cowher. In 2003 they were 6-10 which allowed them to draft a guy named Ben so you can’t win every year!! It happens leave Mike Alone!!

  7. If they get in they'll be one of the best 7. The work it will take just to get in. And a couple of teams ahead of them will have to fall out. I don't think they'll get in because they're not one of the best seven. Bit if they win out and others fall out. They will be. Obviously that means they'll be playing better.

  8. That's rich PFT says Tomlin isn't responsible for the QB situation. He inherited Roethlisberger. Every QB after that has been his pick, including a washed up Mike Vick – Tomlin's personal friend, and a player the fan base did not want.

  9. These guys have been seeing all the bs that has come out about the steelers and yet they still think tomlin would lead another team to the SB smh 🤦‍♂️

  10. Not a Steelers fan but from my observation from watching games it seems like Tomlin decides when he actually wants to coach. I see Pittsburgh lose to teams they should win and compete against some good teams. For example these last 3 games seemed like Tomlin didn’t even want to be in them besides maybe the patriots game. If they won 2/3 of those games they would be competing for a division title now looks like they will go 9-8 again. I’ve seen playoff games where it looks like Tomlin doesn’t believe in his guys and is just calling plays on defense no real game-planing. My real question for Tomlin is, does he want the Pittsburgh Steelers to be an actual team, or just do enough to win 9 games to keep his above 500 record and have an early vacation.

  11. Chris and Mike, big fans of the show and have been a Steelers fan since 1989 when I was a wee lad. Have friends and family local to Pittsburgh, season ticket holders, yada yada yada–I hope you both realize how much sway and influence Tomlin actually has in the Steelers' organization. He has a very big say in drafting/scouting, making those final picks, and running the entire program, as he should as a head coach making millions. He has severely underperformed and I would suggest he is pretty much the best version of second tier or B tier coach who wins with another coaches players. I would put him in a category with Barry Switzer, George Seifert, Mike Ditka, Marty Schottenheimer, and Jeff Fisher–guys who coached a lot of years, won a lot of games, in some cases maximized a culture and a roster by winning a title (Switzer, Seifert, and Ditka, like Tomlin, did it with players drafted and signed by their respective predecessors). Which is all fine and well, and look, I'm happy Tomlin got us to two Super Bowls. But it has been a slog of mediocrity for going on a decade. One AFC title game appearance and a few brief playoff appearances that are short-lived in which we were blown out. (Remember: Tomlin has, for several seasons, been the defensive coordinator, and in the last 3 Steelers' playoff losses we gave up 45, 48, and 42 points in losses to Blake Bortles, Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes. When Tomlin was defensive coordinator for the Vikings the team was dead last in passing defense) ((shocker?!)) I have always posited that Tomlin was not the most qualified candidate to be the head coach of this team. And I still believe that to this day. Appreciate what he has accomplished, but I also can't help think if the Steelers had made better overall personnel decisions even going back to when Bill Cowher was head coach, and considering all of the talent that the Steelers have had since, say, the 90s (Kevin Greene, Levon Kirkland, Jason Gildon, Greg Lloyd, Rod Woodson, Bam Morris, Carnell Lake)–is it possible that between Cowher and Tomlin the Steelers have actually grossly underachieved largely due to average head coaching? The point I'm trying to make is that it is long past overdue for the Steelers to stop being so arrogant and complacent, do their diligence, modernize, and find an offensive coach who can scheme and let skill position talent shine. We feel like a stale old organization still mining coal. I want a software engineer.

  12. I didn’t like all the hype surrounding the Steelers this year. They were not a good team heading into the season. Colbert drafted poorly for the last few years and it shows. People need to cool it on Tomlin. He keeps making ribeye out of chuck steak. The players aren’t good.

  13. Yall so weird. Sean Payton and Mike Tomlin have very similar resumes but you never hear the mess you hear with Tomlin…. I wonder why??? Pittsburgh don’t even deserve Tomlin

  14. What about team discipline??? Mike Tomlin
Drafting players that have questionable characters??? Mike Tomlin
Making screwy 'in game' decisions??? Mike Tomlin
Poor use of timeouts and clock management in general??? Mike Tomlin
Surrounding himself with a mediocre coaching staff who are all yes men??? Mike Tomlin
Driving out Dick LeBeau and Bruce Arians because they refused to lay down for him??? Mike Tomlin.
Wasting the best years of Big Ben's career??? Mike Tomlin
Having the killer Bs and not getting into a Superbowl (Brown, Bell, and Ben)??? Mike Tomlin
Simms kissing Tomlin's a$$ nothing new there…he knows he has to do that to advance his career in mainstream sports' media. Yuck, these guys will do anything for money and perks.

  15. Mike Tomlin wields significantly more influence within the organization than some might acknowledge. Reports from last year indicated that Tomlin was actively involved in interviews and played a substantial role in the selection of the new GM.

  16. Great video.sims should undergo the concussion protocol. Tomlin has held the ultimate decision-making authority in draft picks, personnel, and free agents for well over a decade. Locals are well aware of this fact.

  17. Belichick beat Tomlin like a drum in every important game that they ever had. Florio who lives in lily white West Virginia…who would sell his house if a Black family moved into his neighborhood.

  18. Mike Tomlin is going to the Carolina Panthers he has connection with David Tepper who was the minority owner of the Steelers.

  19. Mike Tomlin is going to the Carolina Panthers he has connection with David Tepper who was the minority owner of the Steelers.

  20. Steelers' owners will see Mike thru' to the end of his contract, (1 more year ?), but NO, I don't think they'll dump Tomlin before that, unless a trade is worth it, but lol, DO THEY even know what a good trade is.? -I mean, so far they haven't.

But anyway, after this mess, the Steelers' owners gotta stop this hangin' on to HC's, (or QB's past their prime), for 15 or 20 years or more just because it's some OLD nostalgic legacy thingy. ?!
We have enough problems with degrading locker-room antics that have been outta control for a few years now, remember AB, …, and all of his internet/locker room embaraasments hurting this team? -ya. -well, it's still there and now with Pickens, ….
Too many (would-be) prima-donna recievers, rb's, …, that blame everyone around them but themselves.
Leadership is, more often than not, a double-edged sword that cuts both ways for the sake of the entire team, ALWAYS.

Tomlin wanted to be a successful and lovable Leader, but instead he's ending up a questionable Cheerleader. -go figure eh.?
As an HC Tomlin had needed to enforce "real" DISCIPLINE, like Cowher and Noll did early on. ! The 2006, 2009 and 2011 superbowl appearing Steelers were basically the same Defense and Offense as Cowher's pre-built team.
Tomlin is a good Defensive Coach/Coordinator, and I like him, but as an HC he simply doesn't have it all, outta time, nor can he handle it all, as the last few years have proven, and obviously the Steelers Offense* still stinks, and we still don't have a franchise QB. !!!?
It's up to the Steelers' owners to inflict change, for a chance at betterment, and if they don't?, then the fans will remind them continually in every stadium, especially their own, with every bad play with a mass BOOOOOOO!, and drops in tickets sales.

So how's that for a season-growing wake up call.?
