Aaron Rodgers plans to return to Jets in 2024, Chiefs road to AFC No. 1 seed | NFL | THE CARTON SHOW

Craig Carton starts out the morning headlines with news that Aaron Rodgers will return to play for the New York Jets in 2024, instead of rushing to comeback this season. Willie Colon and Victor Cruz both agree coming back next year is the best option for the quarterback after he was injured early in the season, but Craig points out one thing that worries him about Rodgers’ return. Plus, Jerry Jones’ eyes are set on the Super Bowl for his Dallas Cowboys, and the crew talk the Kansas City Chiefs road to the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

So we got 24 hours into week 16 of the NFL, but tons going on, including a little bit later on in the program, something we’re very happy about, the first ever edition of Matt Wagner. But we start you off now with Wednesday morning headlines. There you go, kiddo.

Well, I told you this three months ago. Nobody wanted to listen. Aaron Rodgers is not playing football this year. Why? because at 40 years old with a torn Achilles, you cannot play football within three months. And of course, the Jets getting shell shocked by the Dolphins made it easy.

There’s nothing to play for. But he also had his GM hat on again yesterday, boys. And he wants everybody back, as they say. Where I come from, the mean streets of the Bronx. Let’s run it back. It wasn’t successful. This year, so it’s got to be successful next year. It’s impossible, man.

One of the best spots of this team was the offensive line, right? You can’t have everybody back. Every time it goes down, the Jets go down. So there’s a lot of work to be done. There’s a lot on the Joe Douglas play. Hopefully he can get a dub Aaron, man, just get healthy

And don’t abandon us again. We can’t afford another season. Yeah, I’m excited that he’s not coming back this year. You don’t need to come back to play for get healthy, get out there next year and really get out there for your football team. Hopefully they can put an offensive line around you

So you can be out there making plays. Yeah so he said, I love Robert Saleh. Bang, he’s coming back. Love Joe Douglas. He’s the general manager, not a household name for a lot of you. Bang! he’s coming back. Love Nathaniel Hackett, offensive coordinator, former Broncos head coach. Bang! he’s coming back.

But here’s the problem. Jacobs Aaron Rodgers also said if the Jets will allow him to Wink wink, he would like to be a part of the decision making and what they do this offseason. We’ve seen this Randall before, Randall Cobb, Allen lazard, the Dalvin Cook, which one of those players outperformed expectations?

Which one of those players disappointed you? All of them disappointed me. None of them played beyond their expectations. And while he is a great all time quarterback, first bowed Hall of famer, arguably the greatest Packer of all time as well. He’s the worst general manager I’ve ever seen,

And I’ve seen a lot of bad general managers in my day. More on that later on because it does have an impact on a lot of other AFC teams. Headline number two the crying continues in Adelphia after their embarrassing last second loss to Seattle, where their defense couldn’t stop a 92

Yard Drew Lock touchdown drive. And now the finger pointing begins. While the longest tenured member of the Eagles squad, Brandon Graham, defensive lineman, plead to Eagle fans. We’re going to figure it out. Leave us alone now. We said it right. So he probably said it in a more manly way.

But it’s the same message, really? Yeah when you lose two, you know, three NFC playoff contenders, man, there’s trouble in the water. But over over, you know, I think they look fatigued, man. When you watch this Monday night game, this is like a team that wants the season to end.

After that game they wanted all over. So I don’t know how he’s going to figure it out. There’s enough guys in that locker room that they can kind of rally around, but it all starts with Jalen hurts, man. Like he has to figure out how can he get this offense going because he

Can’t save the defense. Defense got to be more. That’s a little bit but we’ll get to the finger pointing has begun because it can’t be as simple as oh, you know, Jalen Hurts is a big part of it, you know, with all the turnovers.

But it’s going to get ugly before it gets pretty. Yeah, I agree. And that defense has to figure it out too. I mean, if they’re not stopping people it puts Jalen Hurts in a tough spot as well trying to play from behind and make plays and force some things which will probably get

Into that later, forcing some things down the field and not playing the complementary football that we’re used to him playing. And one last headline for you, because the Dallas Cowboys have a huge game on the road against the Miami Dolphins. This could be the signature game for them. If they win it.

Jerry Jones said, look, getting to the playoffs is all good. Obviously, that’s goal number one, but we better win some playoff games. Jacoby just getting there, you know, we ate the Houston Texans. We need to do more than just get to the postseason. They clinched a playoff game in the same day

That they got whacked by the Bills. And then the question becomes, how many playoff games, Jerry, because you won one last year, do we need to do got to win three? Do you got to get to the Super bowl? Like, what is the number that’s going to make you happy?

I have an answer for that question. I speak for all Dallas Cowboy fans. Anything short of the NFC Championship game this year is a failure. Yes, sir. I don’t care what kind of numbers Dak puts up or CeeDee Lamb or what Micah does.

At the end of the day, if this team is not playing in the NFC Championship game this year is an abject failure and heads will roll. Whether it’s fair or not, the number one seed in the AFC is not yet decided. Obviously Baltimore owns it right now.

If they win out, they get it. If the Dolphins win out, they get it. And nobody’s talking about Kansas City. Oh, so can the Chiefs somehow, someway find a. Roadmap to once again, having the number one seed. Jacoby we stumbled on this yesterday and it became sort of like depressing reality,

When you look at what could possibly happen, because this is not impossible because you could see the Ravens losing to the 49ers. You could see the Ravens losing to the Dolphins and you can see the Dolphins losing to the Cowboys. And then all of a sudden, the Chiefs become the number one seed.

And after everything they’ve been through this year and after how much we doubt them and how many times we count them out. If the playoffs go through Arrowhead again, I think I quit football. I’m out. Yeah, the Ravens aren’t losing back to back. Even if they lose to the niners, they’re not

Losing to the Dolphins at home. It’s not happening. That’s the key. That’s the key. It’s possible. Yeah and that’s the thing. I think we’re talking about the possibility. I don’t think it happens either. But what? Everyone’s sitting there going. Suns of bitches like Kansas City. There’s a roadmap.

Now, the first thing that has happened is Kansas City wins out. They’re going to that’s like they’ve got the easiest schedule of all the AFC team’s going to the playoffs for drops every game. Doesn’t matter. Yeah well that’s fair enough but that’s the thing they should win out.

Let’s put it that way obviously Baltimore unlikely they win all three they don’t have to as long as they beat Miami. I then close out with the win against the Steelers. Baltimore owns it. They are the number one seed. But the mere fact that of those three teams, only one of them

Has any type of legitimate recent playoff success. Now, of course, is Kansas City. Like this is new territory for the Miami Dolphins. This is not new for the Ravens franchise, but relatively new in the last couple of years for the Baltimore ravens, where you’re in total control.

If you want the AFC to go through Baltimore, beat Miami, beat Pittsburgh, you could get waxed by San Francisco. It doesn’t matter. Chiefs win out doesn’t matter. And then the dolphins, of course, are playing not just for the division because the Bills are right there nipping at their heels.

You could go from right now Miami dolphins, if they win out, they’re the number one seed. So then in Baltimore, in the same exact spot from a standpoint of controlling their own destiny, how about the Dolphins in the last three weeks can go from number one seed to the wild card and oh,

By the way, a wild card game. That becomes a problem because it’s on the road. Yeah, I mean, that’s going to be an issue. But I also question, not question but warned the Chiefs they could be in a dogfight against Cincinnati Bengals. Jake Brown is playing better. He’s a hot quarterback right now.

So if they cannot sleep on the Bengals, what they can do overall. Listen, the Chiefs just have to be do what the Chiefs do win, right? It doesn’t matter how ugly or what the drops happen, they somehow come out on top, which you need to do going forward.

If I’m the Chiefs man, figure out how you can once again kill this narrative with your receivers. How do you talk? I know we talk about players only meeting and all this, but what can you do? Patrick mahomes, Patrick Mahomes in his time

To get this receiving corps to be where they need to be. If you got to go on the road, possibly throw it and catch it.

  1. What makes Aaron Rodgers a first ballot HOF’R? He’s had one Super Bowl and way too many losses in the playoffs. His MVP’s maybe is what considers him a first ballot

  2. This is just a show in NY, Rodgers is playing for the owner, he doesn't want either the HC or the GM fired. Because anyone with a brain coming in would clean house and that includes a 40 year old QB that hurt himself falling down.
