Is it all you dreamed it would be I think so definitely you know it’s it’s what I wanted to do when I was a kid I think initially I wanted to be you know the dream was always to be an F1 but the main goal was to be a professional

Racing driver in something I just wanted to to drive race cars for a living um and you know why not set your aims high and try and get to F1 fun um and yeah to be able to do that is incredibly exciting and you know I think there’s

Definitely some things that uh are not quite as glamorous as they come across on TV but um which elements um I mean this is probably one of the nicer interviews doing a thank you a carding experience but um you know there’s there’s a lot of um stuff that goes on

Uh you know outside of the track you know a lot of preparation a lot of dedication you know we’re traveling nearly 24/7 um and you know there’s a lot that goes on and you know I think being a reserve driver last year I got a very

Good insight into all of that so it’s not completely unexpected for me it’s just uh yeah uh I guess part of being in the job and you know I think it’s all worth it when you get to go out there on track drive the fastest cars in the

World race against the best people uh you know in front of hundreds of thousands of people it’s uh you know I think what we all dream of when we’re a kid what is it about coming home coming to silverston that just gets you you know in that mindset where you can just

Find that edge I think it’s just the whole week it’s just uh I got here straight off Austria so I usually try and come here at the beginning of the week it’s it’s some home comfort food it’s um what is that what’s your go to

Designed it back in the day I don’t know right yeah um I don’t love the new section as much as the old but I think it’s better for racing for sure um but yeah the old the actual just the circuit from the ground up is just epic I’m not

Sure how patient you are as a person racing drivers aren’t famous for being very patient but you do have to play the long game I suppose the great thing about Alpine whether it’s been Lotus or Renault or beniton back in the day it’s a team of racers they know how to win

Was that part of the attraction for you yeah definitely you know I obiously before making that uh decision um I looked at the whole project and you know I had to get the information that my ambitions in Formula 1 match the ones from from the team and it’s super clear

Where why they’re in Formula 1 and where they they want to get to and uh that’s why I really kind of sensed that uh you know will and desire to then we are not in Formula One to just be satisfied with top 10 um and obviously there is work

Obviously it’s it’s a a sort of long process and it’s not something we are used to in Formula 1 we want fast progress and we want to see results straight away uh but at the end of the day you’re competing against Great Rivals you know you’re talking about

Ferrari Mercedes redb these guys are not waiting either and their goals are are similar to to ours but from what I’ve seen we got the good people we got the facilities and uh and it’s a question of time but yeah I mean 100% and uh really

Believe uh that we can get to the top Daniel Ricardo is back at alpat toi well kind of back either way it feels like he is circling your seats are you kind of like thinking hey Ricardo you had your chance back off buddy no not at all I mean

Daniel is a great friend I get I get on really well with him and this is how the business is is run you know everyone I mean let’s say 90% of the drivers will will come to Red Bull for sure you know because it’s a great C it’s a great team

Uh even Daniel was already here a few years ago so he he wants uh I mean there are a lot of drivers out there and the competition I mean you are competing at the finalle of the sport so um everyone wants wants to to have your seat and

Everyone wants to have the best possible s you know so it’s just normal it’s it’s up to everyone to to deliver you know there are a lot of youngsters out there as well so I mean it’s it’s up to to any driver to to perform you are talking

About 20 seats and and and probably there are only very few seats that are so interesting as this one so max Fen three-time world champion uh you don’t seem to do it in a straightforward manner the first one it was all about the last SLP the second one it was a

Confusion in Japan as to whether you’d won and here you’ve done it on a Saturday and we’ve got a Grand Prix later so it’s not like you could go on party yeah I blame uh F1 for that uh introducing the the Sprint weekends but yeah I don’t know I mean these kind of

Things are not in your control right I just of course always try to score as many points as possible and that made it of course then possible to to to win it on on a Saturday but it’s okay but you did get a little bit of a a time to be

With your team I saw the mechanics they were celebrating it because you had the constructor’s championship a couple of weeks ago and then you know a third straight driver’s Championship putting you there with fanjo schumacker vettle Hamilton that’s a pretty exclusive Club yeah I mean these kind of things of

Course um I never thought it was possible when I I started racing of course I I remember watching F1 and uh you’re like I one day I want to be on that Podium I want to try and win races and now that you’re here you know with with three titles is um

Quite yeah crazy to think about I mean you never really think these kind of things are possible and put your name you know in between those names um but um of course incredibly proud and I also said you know already on on the radio like on the inlab like you talk a lot

About performance and you thank a lot of people for for their performances and what they contribute to to the car and to the success of the team but you you’ve you don’t really talk about actually just the enjoyment of working with people people and um you know every

Weekend you get to the track that you know there are so many just of course Brilliant Minds but also just nice people to work with that you know it’s yeah just fun as well just enjoying the the weekends talking about golf what’s your handicap what’s your playoff do you

Want to let the viewers know where you’re at it’s not good enough like I should be I should be better than I am considering and what everyone thinks is what really annoys me right because I talk a lot about golf people think I’m really good at golf yeah yeah I’m not

Of the the standard journalist questions you know if you put a microphone on football players every single time they’ve been tackled or In the Heat of the Moment you know you’d be hearing all sorts of things it would just be one long beat exactly so it’s you know we’re we’re driving around the

Track you know over 200 mph we’re fighting for everything we’ve got and you know you get out of a car you’re physically drained and you’re know mentally drained as well you know you’re going to say things that maybe you don’t quite mean or um that are in Heat of the

Moment and I’m sure he’s got no regrets but it’s you know I don’t really care either so uh part of the game I uh I laughed it off and um here we go again there’s a lot of you know questions and I get bet you get asked it all the time

About you know how long do you see yourself staying in F1 you know how long do you think you can you know keep going at this level so what’s your answer to that how long do you expect to stay in honestly I have I have days where I’m

Like oh God I don’t know if you know I have moments where I’m like I don’t know if I can keep going and and that’s just based on just there’s a lot of travel there’s a lot of traveling there’s a lot of time away from you know all the the sacrifices

That you would people make in their careers um and striking a balance between uh social life family life and career being the best you can can be something has to give and those the other two which are the most important take a hit and um so I think about that often but

Then I get into the paddock and I get in the car and I’m like damn I love this so much um still get that same buzz when you first jumped in 2007 yeah I definitely get the same Buzz your boiler bricks do you call a plumber or do you

Ask your manservant crundale to do it for you no well it’s all part of the the the service in the block so I would have to call the con downstairs to yeah to report that something is broken did you say conage yeah that’s no that’s part of

The the the the monthly rent I pay to Posh Max come on it’s the monthly rent it’s all included in the rent it’s all included so it it runs like a dream it r r breaks down cuz when the goes it’s annoying that is not nice yeah so

If even for two time champ the boiler breaks occasionally it can happen in the sou of France drives me nuts um fin does it happen a lot in the UK yeah plus my I kind of inherited my boiler in my new house and it’s an old piece of junk and

We should buy a new one but I keep I keep getting it fixed and then you’re happy for like a week and then it breaks down again yeah generally though the best scenario is that I’m just about to leave the house to come do F1 and then

Bre and then it’s my wife’s problem Oh bab so sorry good luck with it uh last one do you have your girlfriend now call you two-time world champion Max of stappen or just max um definitely not the first one she wouldn’t agree to that no it’s it’s

Pet name for you or uh we call it other a bit different yeah but I I prefer not to say say that on camera thought I’d go there just went for cuz I love those pet names my my wife calls me Big Boy why is that Max I’d rather not go into it

Blah blah blah yeah I prefer the more just personal stuff a little bit not too personal but well of course we we have a there’s a balance there a balance we respect one another but this is good I’m going to send this into Channel 4 and they’re considering you know firing me

In the future like well no well honestly after that taxi ride you could have no it’s all right it would have been deserved I love the top and tailing of this start of the interview in the end it’s still on the taxi you still Haven quite I won’t I won’t forget that well
