MeanGreenSports.com

You know just first off super excited about the group um you know just hats off to to our coaching staff um if I look tired right now I’m extremely tired right now um it’s there’s been a lot of work that’s been done um you know throughout the the last two weeks

Especially as kind of closing out this class and and being able to get some of these guys signed up obviously you know I think when you look at the numbers that we’ve signed right now is is uh you know pretty pretty remarkable um I guess

In this day and age but uh you know 13 uh transfers coming in I think uh 28 High School guys total of 40 41 guys uh 34 of those guys are from the state of Texas that’s something that was important to me when I took this job I I

Said it you know about a year ago in a press conference that um we want to build this with quality human beings um but but I know I don’t have to go very far to to find really good football players in this great state and um a

Really big high school class for us um is something that I believe into is is really to be be able to continue to build this program um with with high school players from the state of Texas and then obviously we’re able to find a couple guys from outside the state that

That we believe in not not only in in their football ability but but what they bring as human beings to this program so I’m super excited about the additions of that I’ll run down through some of these guys right now starting with uh some of the transfers JJ Jean Louie is a guy

That’s coming to us from from Iowa State um from Centerville High School in in Ohio you know just a big explosive linebacker um with closing speed and and knowledge of this defense already which was key to us and so um you know I think you’re going to hear me repeat over and

Over and here is is just um I thought we needed to add size to this roster um holistically and and so you know a bunch of bigger longer uh bodies that we brought into with a ton of speed as well so really excited about JJ and and being

Able to step in and and know this defense know the calls and and be able to come and make that transition easier for for him and for us uh next one’s BJ Allen another transfer um you know played his high school ball right down the road in in Alo had a great High

School career comes to us from from the University of Texas uh you know a guy with with a ton of range um in in in versatility you know just in a skill set he’s he’s an abled tackler that’ll come downhill and strike you and so uh really

Excited to see him perform in space um next one’s Jaden Hill another transfer uh gr transfer he’s originally from Ohio actually comes um here from Ohio Dominican a guy that’s just played a ton of ball I think it’s you know as you get into watching these transfers um you

Know the total snaps that some of these guys have played and and the film that we’re able to evaluate him this is another you know 6’1 200 plus pound kid um that that just has phenomenal tape and and plays really well in space and and has done really good in in pass Pro

And I mean not pass Pro in in in uh being able to defend the pass and then also uh to be able to tackle people so really excited about just the maturity that he brings to the room um you know just super physical around the box and

And something that we want to add some of those pieces to the puzzle this year uh next one’s David davo spel uh another transfer you know a kid that played his high school ball down the street at South Oak Cliff um went to Northern Arizona um just a sharp sharp football

Player with unbelievable um demeanor presence I mean you watch him I mean he plays every every play on film just full speed I mean extremely high football IQ and so excited to to get him back to to play with us back home um playing you know with with a couple other South Oak

Cliff uh guys on our roster now next one xaven Bryce um just a kid that’s from right down the down the street in sigin high school uh in Arlington um you know also transferring from the University of Texas um just I mean he has elite elite

Length on the outside for us that corner and so to be able to watch you know his length paired with his speed I I think this has a potential to be a lock down corner for us on the edge right away and so super excited I mean a kid’s got a

Great smile great spirit super excited to to get back closer to family and and to be able to get out there and and compete the the minute that he steps on campus uh next one is is Zach Evans um you know running back transfer com from University of Minnesota played his high

School ball rock wall Heath um a bigger back um you know who’s a Polish running back you know we try to find flaws in his game but you know he’s a patient explosive Runner has good hands out of the back field extremely well does extremely well in pass protection so a

Guy I think that’s um you know shown us on tape what he provides to us and and can come in here and and be a guy that we can plug in once we once we teach him this offense and I think he’ll he’ll hit the ground running uh recruited a Zach a

Little bit out of out of high school uh know the family extremely well um just a great family that we’re excited to Welcome to the to the Mean Green family next one a wide receiver transfer uh Dalton KS that’s coming from uh University of Houston uh played his high

School ball at College Station High School um you know a guy that did it the tough way you know he walked on at Houston and earned a scholarship there uh earned his way into the rotation he played multiple spots at Houston um you know he has he has the speed to stretch

The ver the field vertically but just just a tough explosive gritty you know player that comes in and and has you know Big 12 experience and and has caught some big time balls and some Big Time games and so excited to uh to see what Dalton brings to us the next one’s

Oscar Hammond a tight end transfer from Central Oklahoma originally from Collinsville Oklahoma um really we we wanted a dynamic pass catcher to add in into the tight tight ends room and I think you watch your film it’s exactly what you’re going to get I mean he’s a 63 uh

235 uh pound kid that comes in and runs really Chris routes has great ball skills um just I I think he was third or fourth in all of college football this year in tight ends and in total receiving yard so a guy that possesses that quality and is going to be really

Multiple for us and and be a matchup issue for for other teams um next one Justice Giller offensive lineman uh coming uh you know grew up in in in Houston and went to Katie Morton Ranch um and coming by way of of Stephen F Austin a guy that

Started four years same thing I mean just the game experience the snaps um a big guy you know probably 63 and a half 6’4 but but has a 84 in wingspan long arms really excels in pass protection uh that’s one area we wanted to kind of sh

Up this year is to be able to protect the quarterback a little bit better and this is a guy that that’s proven on film that that he can do that and so um just great great kid with with a vast amount of of of experience and super excited

About bringing him into the into the fold here uh the next one’s from right down the road Jasper lot um you know o line transfer from argal high school TCU transfer um a legacy his dad played here his his dad had an unbelievable career here um was a strength coach here and

Then was able to move in into the NFL ranks um and and had a a super long successful career in in the National Football League um just a tough guy that’s you know he’s he’s 66 300 plus pounds super athletic played tight end in high school so super excited about

About bringing Jasper into the mix and and getting a legacy that that a family that bleeds green uh next guy Landon Peterson um another one you know 66 super long arms 300 plus pounds uh you know he’s originally from Odessa peran High School in in the Midland Odessa area uh went to

Texas Tech um played started a ton of games for Texas Tech last year uh at guardar but this is just a versatile player I mean it’s a guy I think that you can plug in at at any of the five positions uh with the game experience

Just brings a toughness uh to that room a guy that has has a ton of experience and and I think he’s a guy that that we expect to come in here and and you know make a name for himself day one and so super excited about about getting

Another West Texas guy involved here a tough guy that has a ton of of flexibility and and can come in with uh with a thought that we’re going to he’s going to make an immediate impact here uh next one Johnny Dixon offensive lineman um you know from Corpus Corpus

Chrisy flower Bruff Bluff High School um coming by way of Virginia Tech um just excited to bring him back to the home state you know he’s a quick twitch player um you know has a ton of explosive traits physical guy uh we’ll look to him to play you know one of the

Three interior positions and so uh just is good to get him back to Texas and him talking about you know being back where where he can go hunting and fishing and do all the things he loves to do so super excited about about getting Johnny

Down here um and then the last one will be uh DT Sheffield is is a guy that’s uh you know he he’s a junior college kid that I recruit roed up to Washington State um and then uh just a guy I’ve known for a long time super explosive

Good punt returner um a really good receiver can play any of the receiver spots and so uh excited to get DT back in into the fold here um so that’s all that’s 13 transfers um you know I think that’s nine or 10 of them from the state

Of Texas bringing them back home and um and so super excited about that and understanding that that we had relationships with our High School coaches um and and things of that nature that that we could really do our research on these guys and think are

Great fits to to get here in the spring and and be guys that we can we can you know count on to be pug and play guys uh we’ll move on to the high school kids now starting with u Mr Langley from from right down the street um you know uh

Jaden Jaden Langley is is a defensive lineman you know 63 280 lbs uh you know provides us that that size and speed which allows him you know to be versatile up front but but a kid I I think that was right down the street and

We able to bring him and his mother on on an official visit um just just fell in love with the family um the thought of him staying close was something that resided with with the family and uh he’s a midyear enrol so super excited to get

To work with him here in a couple weeks uh Zen Scott another one from right down the road I mean a d lineman you know 6’2 240 lbs um you know a guy that just has twitch he’s Relentless uh you turn on the tape he’s playing defensive end then

They put him at running back then you put him at at uh at quarterback in a wildcat package I mean just super explosive loves to play the game plays it in the right way and and so was was fun to see that I mean I think he was

The the utility Player of the Year in in one of the best districts in in all of uh Texas this year so excited about Z getting in here the next one’s Matthew Reed um a guy from from right down the road uh Denton Braswell High School um

Just a guy that has really good length measurables um you know he’s 6’4 270 280 lbs um you know just a crazy good explosive First Step he bends really well he’s Twitchy um he’s originally from St Louis but he’s played his high school football just right down the road

Just a great family um and and excited to get Matthew here and to watch the development of of some of these big bodies I think is going to be um a lot of fun over the course of the next couple years next one Jaden Williams Willams um you know he’s just violent

And strong at the point of attack great twitch um really good football instincts um you know measured in I think 63 280 lbs as well super long arms um he’s born in Texas but he’s grown up in maroe Louisiana he has family right down the

Road in Frisco I mean he he’s just going to be a force for us and I think a force earlier than later just a guy that we fell in love with his high school tape we’ve been recruiting the heck out of him for for the last 6 to8 months and

Great personality great kiddo excited to get him in here uh didn’t go far to get the next guy we’ll start with the linebackers but Hudson materio is a linebacker uh right down the road from from argal Texas um same thing you know he’s 63 pushing 64 uh you know 225 lbs a

Big guy that that is a true you know linebacker and uh played in a similar system in in uh down at argal in in the three down front and and so he’s a guy that that he played multiple Sports excelled at multiple Sports in high school a really good pitcher you know I

Think throws at 95 off the mound and so um you know was you know committed to Baylor I think to play baseball for for a bit and uh just just down the stretch fell in love with football and and this is kind of where his heart was uh same

Thing just to get some of these local kids in here is something that that we want to make a point this year and some people that’ll come in and and you know that this this Universal in this area means something to him and so super excited about adding of him next one is

KB Anderson Dell uh linebacker from Harker Heights uh he was a 6A District MVP this year First Team all district just a physical physical linebacker and and we knew In This Cloud if we needed a true linebacker that you know had the traits and you could see on tape that

That he was a tackling machine so I think this guy has the the measurements kind of a of a KD Davis and somebody that um is a little bit shorter but but you know the same bodybuilt that that he’s going to be 225 lbs and super athletic and and makes plays all over

The field inside the box outside the box super aggressive just one of those linebackers that truly has a nose for the ball so excited about welcoming him and his family next one we’ll get to some of the safeties uh Jaden Smith um you know from Engleside High School down

In South Texas just and you look at him he’s he’s one of the top receivers in the whole entire nation this year and and and we’re going to move him over the defense side of the ball he played defense in high school as well um but just unbelievable ball skills range he’s

A three- sport athlete um just with tremendous upside and same we’ve been recruiting him for for months and months great family I mean just fun to to recruit these guys for a long time and have the parents sit in my office and cry and and be able to be so proud of of

Where he’s come and and how far he’s going to go in this program next one’s Chris Gant um you know a guy out of Klein Collins High School down in the Houston area um same thing I mean you just watch him play safety the way safety is meant to be played and and

He’s a guy that’s already over 200 lb the physicality that he’ll bring to this coming downhill and and striking people um is is just fun to see I mean he’s super versatile he’s a great leader um he’s got Charisma about him and and I think Chris will be a guy that that’ll

Fit into our room and and and make a a push of of playing earlier than later here uh the next one was was kind of a late find for us a kid out of Lake Travis High School Keandre Lewis um you know we knew on the back end we wanted

To add you know a little bit longer bodies with some range back there so here’s a a 6’2 200lb kid um that transferred from mayor he only played one year at Lake Travis and so um you know is a guy when he’s a quarter safety he can cover he’s athletic he’s long he

Has great ball skills to to make interceptions and and you turn on your family you know we went in there a couple a couple weeks ago talking to the coaches there at Lake Travis Who I Really respect and he turns on the film and five minutes into it you know I’m

Like holy smokes like this kid’s got a chance and able to get coach Jennings down there get around the family uh made of the right stuff so super excited about uh about Keandre Lewis coming into the mix next one Jaden pway um same thing a big long guy out of Angleton

Texas 6’2 uh you know 195 PBS that has the frame to to be 215 PBS uh really fast and so Engleton has put out you know a ton of talent over the course of of the last you know 20 or 30 years and so just has so much versatility and

Space he comes downhill with bad intentions a great tackler and so uh another guy you know great basketball player and and so you know I love finding the guys that that are multiple sport athletes uh next one is Carrie Williams right down the road South Oak Cliff two-time state champion um state

Runner up this year um obviously just instinctive tough player great coverage ability uh made some great plays in in the state championship and and all throughout the playoffs he continues to get bigger um you know just just kind of watching him progress over the course of

The last uh 8 to 10 months has been fun and and Carrie is is a guy that’ll come in here he’s been used to playing on the big stage from a winning program so super excited to uh to continue you know getting some guys from South Oak

Cliff next guy Gabe stra uh corner from White House Texas um I I’ve recruited two guys from White House Texas Dylan Krell and Patrick Mahomes theyve both been pretty good players there’s another one he’s a multiport athlete has great speed you know he he’s he’s a 105 10400

Meter dash guy has great cover skills great personality great smile um you know so it’s just been a pleasure getting to know him getting to know his story go see him you know uh on these home visits he’s a guy that that works there at the Lo local grocery store you

Go in the high school you go in the grocery store I mean everybody just has incredibly positive things about Gabe so super excited to get him on our Squad uh the next one’s an athlete you know probably St him at at wide receiver from Katie Tomkins um you know Wyatt

Young is is a guy that that just the versatility of Wyatt he’s just he’s simply a great football player um you know he’s voted as as overall District MVP in a 68 District in Houston just adds a ton of flexibility um great football IQ he played quarterback in

High school and and just fun to watch him play against the quality competition week in week out and continue to to make plays with his legs with his arms and so you know I think he just great adds Great Value to our team you know immediately on special teams and then us

Finding you know a true home for us but we’ll we’ll find a play a way to get that kid on the field he’ll find a way to get himself on the field next one quarterback uh cash McCullum uh from China Springs um just simply put cash is a winner cash comes

From a football background he’s a coach’s kid um cash is you know good at basketball good at golf uh just just good at everything he does so here’s a guy that you know has a 6’4 uh frame on him with a great frame to add some weight add strength I think you’ll just

Continue to see you know him really grow in this realm as he continues to get stronger in our weight program and and working with Coach broy here and so uh excited to get him to enroll early um you know and and and too with our with our quarterback situation right now

Obviously he comes in he gets a ton of reps right now and and which is huge for him I mean a super sharp guy that’s been around football his whole life so um it’ll be awesome to have him here early and working with the team here in a

Couple of U here in a couple weeks Luke Carter is another one uh from ktie high school another one that that he’s a son of a coach first commit of this class um you know versatile player that that excels blocking he excels catching and and can do a lot of different things for

Us and so um you know I just think it’s um it’s good he he comes from a winning program that’s used to winning that has a great offseason program he also will be here in a couple months and and so really excited to get Luke here and working with with our strength program

And get him into Spring ball um next one also is a midyear guy Brandon Young from mansfi Legacy you know this a guy that just possesses exceptional size and and is a great receiver I mean it’d be a true wide receiver for us 652 250 lbs

Already um just super long looks like a prototypical NFL tight end and so uh really really excited to see what this young man grows into um once he gets here in in in about a month and so uh just a a very effective you know and and

Made a bunch of Big Time catches in the Red Zone this year great one-handed catches uh you know to score some touchdowns so excited to bring that versa U ility to the program um the next one is is Victor at a rer boy and and you know just exceptional exceptional

Athlete from Fort Bend doas like I mean he played tight end receiver running back all for his high school and has incredible ball skills you know long big hand 63 uh a little bit over 63 234 lbs when he was here has a great frame you

Know to carry 240 245 lbs easily uh runs like a white out catches like a white out and and think he’ll he’ll grow into into a great player here and he’ll grow into it fast next one running backs uh kefir sibi out of out of wo connley just

Explosive running back with great CH change of Direction great hands great patience understands how to play the position um you know he played both ways early in high school uh but this is also this is a midar and rolly guy that we we get here and we’re able to get quality

Reps out of kefir um has a has an infectious smile infectious personality um mother’s incredible and and so really excited to get kefir here and add him to the mix uh the next one we went out of state to to get Ashton gray um from Marian Arkansas um same thing just a big

Athlete super versatile you know play quarterback you know rush for for almost 2,000 yards uh almost 12 yards a carry as a senior uh you just keep watching the tape and and this casid you know he he can throw it he can run it he he’s

He’s so multiple in in what he brings to our team but you really when we started breaking it down with Coach Cobbs you know as as far as just his running style he’s a guy that that’s going to be 6 foot 210 lbs in a hurry I think he was

6′ 200 lb when when he was here on his visit but has the frame and and the body to get extremely strong and and really runs behind his pads really well getting it downhill so super excited to watch coach Cobbs work with with Ashton and and develop him into a great player uh

The next one’s Mason Ferguson same thing he’s a midyear en rolly from North Crowley all district Receiver right down the road okay smooth athlete um you know he’s a basketball player and so I really like having basketball backgrounds that wide receiver they naturally know how to release off the line of scrimmage um

Just makes some incredible catches on tape I mean he has has big hands and mittens and going up and making these acrobatic catches so getting him here uh next month will be big to to allow him to get in the weight room and and and on our nutrition program so super excited

About the future with with Mason Ferguson coming in at white out um next white out Baron Tipton from cell high school and his kid just a freak Elite jump ball guy with tons of uh production um you know I think day one he stepped in here he’s the longest white out you

Know he’s six foot five um he he has great hips run great routes um and so I I think this is a guy and too he’s just one of those kids that can do everything you know the dad sends me videos of him surfing in the summer and you know doing

10 straight 360s around which is hard to do at 6’5 so uh so really excited about getting Baron in here uh both of his parents went to un so so I think pretty cool that to get some some people with some green blood in here Kyle Cook um another wide receiver from Dripping

Springs one of the most productive wide outs in the state of Texas the past two uh Seasons just extremely extremely tough competitor um you know we we expect him to play Early around here he’s a guy that that comes in at at 6’1 uh 185 190 lbs um has the frame has the

Body has the work ethic um just watching him in a couple playoff games this year he’s the one that got double teamed every game and and still going out there and and you know catching 10 balls for for 100 plus yards and and multiple touchdowns so excited about Kyle uh next

One is is not as big I’ve talked about how big and long a bunch of these players are but miles Coleman is is the exception to that this year miles Coleman um is From Austin Vandergriff uh most productive wide receiver in the state of Texas in the last two seasons

Nearly 3,000 yards and 27 touchdowns I mean a true game changer with the ball in space you know you think with with his statue and and being a little bit shorter that you know he’d P primarily be a slot receiver and you turn on on

The tape and they put him on the outside and he’s running fade balls right past you know all the competition Elite punt returner Elite kick returner uh just find ways to get him in the space another another true track guy you know ran 105 and and shooting to to get all

The way 10 103 or 102 this year in the 100 meter dash so super excited about miles um onto the O lineman Paul um big Paul from mosqu high school uh same thing just a long athletic player I think he has a 80 84 in wingspan which

Is extremely leite uh 35 in arms and and has the frame to grow you know a 280 lb kid right now but but you know I think a year into a weight program will easily be a 300 lb long athletic guy that that we think projects in into a great tackle

Around here for a long time so super excited to get Paul in here uh amarian Barry um from arlat high school good and and he’s not as tall as him but but he’s another guy that has extremely long arms I mean 6’2 uh you know close to close to 290 lb but

Has a 80 plus uh wingspan and so a guy that we project probably as a center coming in here uh could also play guard you know when you turn on tape probably has you know some of the best balance that we’ve seen on tape of of any of the

Old linemen that that we’ve been able to evaluate this year um he’s a guy you know from uh from Mississippi originally but but a guy that is loves to finish people um you know when he watching pull and and get in space is extremely athletic and so excited about us you

Know the way he fits into the way we do Gap schemes um around here so excited about that kid just great personality and and you know I think he helps us in that room on and off the field just with his personality with his infectious character so next gu is Christian pway

Uh from Lindell High School from from Beast Texas as they like to call it right um he’s someone that has all the tools that you’re looking for size length frame mentality um you know just been a joy to get to know him late in this process um the one thing I love about

East Texas kids is is all of them are generally tough and you get them in the program they know how to work they know what what’s expected of them they’re great teammates and and they have this sense of loyalty and so um really really excited to get uh Christian into the mix

And then um the last one is uh Tyler Mercer from Prosper High School I mean there’s just not enough time to talk about you know all the positive things with Tyler two time you know District o line MVP cap team captain um just this is a young

Man that that we were looking for on and off the field just the character the work ethic the physicality he plays with you know just has Elite technique um you know he’ll come in and play center Force he’s also early enrol Le so so to get

Him over here and and make an instant impact for us us at at a position we need some depth right now at the center position so super excited you know we we got seven uh early enroles from high school um you know and and total signes

You know be 40 um possibly you know with that going up a little bit here in the near future and then you know 34 of those guys are from Texas and so uh so yeah super excited like I started with of of our coaches of of our recruiting

Department to really go through all this stuff I mean it’s just just hectic this day and age as fast as as it happens with the portal and signing day and the amount of time that you have um you know there’s been a ton of film watchs over

The course of of the last you know um couple weeks some of it’s on iPads and hotel rooms after you’ve been visiting schools all day so uh proud of our coaching staff and uh and proud of of what we were able to put together and

And be able to bring these guys in here and continue to build something special got any questions br oh yeah always got questions all right so since last year this roster and this team has gone what seems like the Bas remake I can never remember bringing in over 40

Had a lot of guys leave after last year why do you think that was and do you feel like you ended up in a better place than you started yeah super excited about about what we’re bringing back on this team like I talked about at the end

Of the thing I mean we got a foundation that’s built right now here and uh super excited about the returners that we have and then just just a static about what we were able to add in this class and I think you know it was important for me

Um you know to to continue to sign big high school classes and develop people this will always be a a developmental program you know while we brought in just a bunch of uh key contributors and and key positions in the transfer portal and so this is the mix that we’ve been

Talking about that I’ve been referencing you know for for some time here is is I think that’s the the secret uh recipe to it so um you know excited to really rebuild you know um the back end you know on defense and get some safeties in

Here was a position of need um to get a tight end to to come in immediately and then a couple midyear tight ends which is huge and I think these mid years you know when when you’re able to get a guy in a high school guy and and you have a

Whole spring with them and those 15 practices are going to be huge so having you know 19 guys come in midy year is is something we’re extremely excited about getting to work with those guys um during the course of the spring and did did this roster need a pretty dramatic

Makeover to get the where you needed to go or where you want to go yeah and I I think that’s kind of you know that’s a new Norm right now right and so I I think that um that yeah there there’s we lost some some production on this team

But we gained you know some people that we’re super confident in coming in here and being able to fill those holes and fill them in a hurry and and have the capability to even grow and be better next year especially with adding those to the to the pieces that we have coming

Back and then um yeah just some of the spaces on some of the bigger bodies and and the game experience um at different places is is something that was key when we looked into all this was this maybe the biggest makeover you’ve been a part of throughout your

Coaching career in terms of pre Shing a roster over course of just a few weeks yeah yeah I think numbers wise this is this is uh probably the biggest one I and probably the one I’m most excited about I mean even and there are some possessions you know where where we know

What we have coming back at wide receiver and and I I would argue that this is maybe the best you know High School um group of white outs that that I’ve ever signed at any level and and so super excited about you know those guys coming in and have an opportunity um to

To compete as as true freshman do you feel like you can met your needs in this class as you move forward this program yeah absolutely we got we got some spots left you know five or six spots left right now and so um you know we’ll

Continue to to fill out kind of what we need as far as a program at different positions and um you know we’ll continue to recruit you know some Specialists throughout this class continue to recruit you know some different areas right now but um but yeah just with with

Adding these 40 guys right now and getting us to to a really solid number coming back next year and still having you know five or six spots to to fill some some extra voids then U you know I’m I’m super pleased so how many spots did you have available going into this

Class as you look to build it I don’t know I’d I’d be lying if I threw out a number okay fair enough and the one one area that it seems like maybe you didn’t address was an experienced quarterback because you lose Chandler I mean I know Stone’s coming back but is that a

Position you look to address with maybe trying to find somebody with some experience next season yeah I mean I I think our our track record is pretty good with quarterbacks over the course of the last 12 to 14 years and so I mean you can kind of look it up and and see

The guys we’ve been able to find and develop and and what they’ve been able to do on the field on Saturday so I think that speaks for itself yeah but I mean so you guys will look for a transfer yeah transfer high school kid I don’t I’m I’m not I don’t discriminate

On that stuff so but yeah we only just number-wise you know we’ll we’ll sign another quarterback you know and stone decided to to come back it looks like what went into that into the that decision and do you think he’ll he can potentially help you this next year oh absolutely you

Know I I think Stone has has proven a lot around here here and stone somebody that’s super competitive great teammate uh love to have him around this building love that he’s coming back um and so just just his his dad I had a great conversation with a couple days ago and

So um stone stone loves to compete and and so we’re we’re extremely excited as a program to to get him back in the in the mold I mean in the uh in the fold here did you just need a lot of competition at quarterback if you look

To make a decision end next year competition is a good thing at every position yeah no doubt and so we we’ll try to continue to build a roster and build rooms out that that are you know that have competitions going in into every you know fall Camp that’s that’s a

Goal of a coach and and we tell our kids that right I mean it’s our job to to out recruit you and so um so yeah I think that’s that’s and even with the new landscape of college football I mean it’s it’s become even uh a little bit

More regular now you know probably be a good offseason project for you there veto is is to find out how many kids you know stay at one school from from their freshman year all the way up to to where they graduate and so um but yeah just

The quality of humans that we brought in and and you know addressing our needs and and and the size category and the speed category um just I’m I’m tickled to death you mentioned multiple times throughout last season that you didn’t have maybe the players you needed from a

Physical stature just a performance stat to run kind of Defense you wanted to run you feel like you addressed that in this class yeah just I I think our team was was smaller you know as we got into conference play and we able to to go

Against you know um some of those top tier teams and and you look at you know me Memphis and SMU last year I know they’re not with us anymore um UTSA uh two lane you know I I I think just and and it just a fact they were bigger than

Us they were longer than us and so as we continue to grow this thing you know I I think that that was something important to me that that not only and we don’t want to be lacking for for a lesser athlete obviously but we were able to

Find longer bodies to develop that um that are really good football players it looked like you guys had to kind of fight off some competition to hang on to Bryce at the last minute were there some guys him and others that you had to really work to hold on to in the last

Few days you got to recruit them all nowadays so you got to recruit your players your roster you got to recruit the ones that are TR you got to recruit the ones that are high school kids and so I just think you know with the coaching changes and and the timing of

When everything happens and and then you know I I just think it it it creates some uncertainties in different situations right I think that that’s why stability is is so important within a program and so yeah there’s a bunch of different Dynamics I think that go into

That and every Situation’s a little bit different but um but yeah I mean I I think Bryce is is obviously a good example of it but but there’s a lot of them on that list that fall into that same category and you’re guys are pretty active late got some guys on Signing Day

You know and just in the last couple of days was it just kind of a frantic run up to end to the end here to to get the where you wanted to go yeah I’m tired I need I need my couch in a bad way right

Um and so uh yeah I think that and just you don’t want to make mistakes at the same time you know I think some people rush to decisions and and you know you see that they’re getting offered on Twitter and and everybody starts offering them and it it turns into a

Thing right just cuz you don’t have as much time to work with some of the transfer stuff and so you know it’s almost like speed dating a little bit is is you’re trying to get these know where these high school kids you know you bring their families in and and you’re

Hugging having a great time and and you’ve seen their families five or six times now they’ve been to games they’ve been to visits they they were here on Junior days they were here during the summer so you build these relationships over time and I think you know you you

Have a sense of trust with people when when you have those relationships for a lot longer and so it just throws it in when you’re trying to recruit a kid you know and and you want them to make a decision in in two weeks is a is a lot

Harder to do than on both ends than than having to make that decision in you know eight or eight8 to 10 months like we’ve been recruiting some of these high school kids so it’s every Situation’s different and and recruiting a high school kid is different than recruiting

You know a transfer right now out of the portal and then that’s why too I mean I I think it was important we were able to lean on on you know some of the relationships we had of bringing guys back to Texas and you really get to know

The kid through their coaches and through you know some of the relationships that we have throughout the state yeah this year you guys had a lot of time you had a full year to go through whereas last year you kind of had to throw it together at the last

Minute did that extra time benefit you guys substantially over the course of the year no no doubt I mean I I think when you look at it now and and too at the same time time tells on all those like you look back and and think about

You know the DB class we were able to sign late last year I mean I I think that class is going to be exceptional all five of them I think are hits and and really good players and really good kids that that love this place and and are so appreciative of the opportunity

So yeah I think with all recruiting right we can sit here and talk about all these guys which you know we’re in love with right now but I think um once you’re able to put together a body of work you’re you’re able to really look

Back on it and see if it was a successful thing or not yeah and you guys you’re not playing a bowl game this year did give you guys some extra time to work with a little bit as far as putting this class together yeah I think the timing of of a

Bunch of these bowl games right now you know is and I I quite frankly don’t think it’s fair um to a bunch of people we had to do it last year in Washington state and and I got here before but you know you’re asking people to play a bowl

Game you know that last week that we have in recruiting which makes it extremely difficult with with the new age of of the portal and and how fast some of the stuff moves and you’re trying to get people on on campus and and so I I think it’s uh it makes it

Tough like you know I think it needs to be looked at by the NCAA to possibly you know move the date or give those people an extra week I mean there’s something that obviously they’re a little bit of a of a disadvantage
