Use light grip pressure is my favorite tip. That's the #1 trait that all the HOF putters have. You can't have touch and feel around the green with your finger tips turning white. 😂
Again I will say that most Tour level players, historically, are lousy teachers. However, this is the second excellent transfer of information that I have seen coming from Phil. Well done Lefty, great stuff here !! 🎩✌️⛳️🏌🌴
For decades I was considered to be a great putter- hardly missed anything under 8 feet.
As my eyes got bad at around 60, I started addressing like Phil with my eyes just inside with a similar notion of a better sight line. For years I started missing to the left- slightly pulling the putt.
Two months ago I went back to eyes directly over which causes my shoulders to rock more properly around the spine axis and viola! My putting at 70 years old came back! I rarely miss the simple ones under 8 feet.
And if my tired old eyes could read the greens again, I’d make my fair share of 40 footers too.
If there’s over a million ways to advance a golf ball as Homer Kelley’s “The Golfing Machine” describes, there’s surely as many ways to putt.
Phil is such a practical player, when he gives you a tip you should use it always. I know he takes a lot of chances, often risking too much. And not everyone should play that way but his approach to each shot is very simple. Often when a pro gives you a tip it is 50/50 if you can apply it and if it’s right for you. But Phil doesn’t over complicate things.
