In this video we take Alex, a 10 handicapper, through an iron fitting to see if we can help him sneak down into those single figures.

Testing irons such as the new Callaway Apex Pro, Titleist T150, Mizuno Pro 223 and Taylormade P770.

But which will come out on top??

  1. Why did you not go with the 223 that was producing spin in the 6600 range? Distance seemed consistent. Wouldn't it hold greens better and be more controlled?

  2. So why is the game improvement heads hurting? I have a set of JPX 921 hot metal pro and a set of JPX 923 Hot metal, amazingly I hit the pros better than the more forgiving Hot Metals. Any idea why a smaller less forgiving head would perform better for me?

  3. He seemed to prefer the T150, in my opinion, even though he was straighter with the Apex

  4. You're a really good fitter. I didn't see you address his lie. He was hitting toe down on every shot and the mat is more forgiving than real turf. Would you adjust his le 1 or 2 degrees upright?

  5. this dude prob hit a thousand balls after testing. no way you can get an accurate reading when he is fatiguing.

  6. Love the videos Ross especially the fitting videos with customers 👍, can’t wait to come down and have a fitting session myself, booked in for the middle of Jan and can’t wait, keep
Up the great work mate 🏌️‍♂️

  7. Watching this now. This fitting session is pretty identical to the one I had with Ross a couple of weeks ago. Just that my ball striking was not as good 😂 being a 15 handicapper. The irons fitting session I had was excellent as well and helped me make the right decisions for my next set of irons and goal setting.

  8. IMO..A fitting should be broke down into 6 categories. Putting, short game, long irons, short irons, fairway woods/hybrids, and driver. I don’t think it’s fair to fit people according to their handicap. You can have a 20 handicap player who is absolutely deadly with their irons, but terrible with the driver, but excellent with putting and terrible with wedges. Therefore, they should be fit according to how they strike each individual club. Which means he could have a very forgiving driver, but be playing with a set of bladed irons, cavity back wedges, blade putter. Just saying.

Great video ! Really enjoyed it.

  10. @epgolfstudios We're limited for golf shops and fitters in my city here in NZ. I stopped playing 6 years ago and was off +3, and im loookg at getting back into it. Im 44 and wouldn't say no to some extra distance if its available. Ive tried a ton of clubs and really like the Cobra Forged Tec X, even though with my mid to high 90's swing speed with a 7 iron they really shouldnt suit my game but every time i hit them theyre the most consistent. Im getting ball speeds of about 130mph, a peak height of 110-120ft, a descent angle of between 48 & 50⁰, and backspin of about 5200-5500. Do these numbers seem ok to you? Ive always hit the ball high amd struggled to knock spin off my irons so the lower spin appeals to me.

  11. Interesting, you liked the lower spinning apex 7 iron compared to the higher spinning Mizuno, 770 heads.Yes they were shorter but the spin I feel was much better.5000-5500 spin on a 7 iron is a Lil low.

  12. Very intuitive vlog! I’m due for a refit soon. Had my clubs 5 years now Ping i200 looking for a bit more feel. Especially when it comes to pitch and chipping!

  13. Even with the 2* upright adjustment he was still 2-3 toe down at impact. Any thoughts on other adjustments to address that? Or is that not a concern? Thanks!

  14. Amd please please please keep putting the swingweight in here… so crucial to feel that gets lost in videos all over the internet

  15. Choose a head that you like in terms of the feel and aesthetic features. Swing weight adjustments should be implemented after settling on the right shaft to zero in on direction of the ball flight. Clubs can be custom built to any balance. There is no need to take the shafts as it is.

  16. I am a 12 handicap. went from callaway x18 which play like a distance iron, long and more offset in the club to the callaway x forged cb21. I only lost 5 yards but I can hit them stright as an arrow or with a bit of shape. I have way more control left ,right and front to back and they feel so much softer. Perfect amount of offset for my eye. I like the xforged better than the apex pro because of the feel off the face is so much better.

  17. Great video! I would like to purchase my next set of irons and they have to be fitted… what's your view on getting a fitting when not playing and practicing much at that moment in time? Worth waiting until the spring?

  18. I felt he wanted to edge for the T150's but then soon realised the Apex's just worked so well for him on his miss hits, I probably should get myself in for a fit sometime soon, Using the good old stealth irons and went from a 13hc to a 7.7hc this season, I really like my irons the only thing I do hate is I do tend to miss a lot left.

  19. I think this was a product of sole design. He is relatively steep given his swing speed so the higher bounce of the apex pro made for better turf interaction compared to the lower bounce titleist.
