Top 5 Bears draft prospects with Josh Lucas | Hoge & Jahns | #chicagobears #nfl

As we arrive at the BYE for the Bears, let’s pull back and project a few months ahead. Who will be on the top of the Bears’ board? What are they ultimately going to do with the QB situation? Let’s bring in former Bears player personnel man Josh Lucas to shed some light on the mentality taking place in Halas Hall right now, and who Josh’s top 5 prospects are that the Bears should be considering in 2024.

  1. Certainly didn’t think I would watch a whole draft video and be convinced the RT on Bama is the guy the Bears need. Quite the sales pitch. I want him now

  2. nah your wrong I watched the replay, he had 6 sec in pocket to throw the last one, plus they did not cover dj moore, , this is why it happened also, viking tbh properly made a big mistake not blitzing and not defending dj moore, Kida wierd tbh.

  3. I’m doing all I can to take MHJ with the first pick; if Maye or Williams is there at the 2nd pick then I’d think about it. I like Fields but it is a hard decision.

  4. Before anything else I just wanna say that I really enjoy when Josh Lucas is on the pod. I love hearing the lingo of those scout and player personel conversations like Jahns had mentioned.

However, with all due respect to Josh, I disagree on multiple levels here. First of all, 4 of his top 5 intriguing prospects being in the top 6 of PFF's draft board is a little eyeroller (Latham being at #19) which is why I enjoyed the Latham conversation the most. Getting to hear that evaluation about a guy who is considered a level behind o-line guys like Olu, Alt, and even Fuaga and more along the lines of Mims and Barton is interesting stuff.

Obviously I am not an NFL scout by any means and just a Bears beat writer, but I really don't need anyone to tell me how physically talented a guy like Caleb Williams is. Physical talent is obvious to most people. I am more interested in the character evaluations and that kind of thing was briefly talked about here – and I remember Jahns talking about the body language etc when he saw him at Notre Dame. We already have a QB currently right now that has all the talent in the world. The traits that would need to be coached in/out of Caleb are the same traits that we are currently struggling to coach in/out of Justin Fields. Why would it be any different with Caleb? IMO – if you're drafting Caleb, it can't be done by this staff because they have already proven they won't be able to elevate Caleb Williams' game. Which to that point, why wouldn't you just bring in a coach for Justin Fields instead and add two different top 10 talents to the roster?

Also, there is one phrase that Josh Lucas said that should end all discussions period in terms of who you are drafting with your top pick – and that is "cannot miss." Marvin Harrison Jr, is as cannot miss as it gets. Day 1 in the NFL, he is going to be a top 10 WR in the league. Barring any major injuries which obviously can happen to any player, he is a cannot miss, productive stud for the next 5 years. There isn't a singular scenario in which where the Bears walk out of the draft with Marvin Harrison Jr and I have the thought – "dang that was a bad draft." It literally wouldn't matter who they take with the rest of their picks. They could draft arena football players from rounds 3-6 and I would still have the thought that damn, we have MHJ, that's gonna be awesome.

"It's hard to see how you could miss on this guy" – there shouldn't even be a debate then.

  5. CMON GUYS… this dude worked under Ryan pace what kinda talent did he give us. Blah blah blah all I hear is more talk on how to ruin the bears. Let's bring on people who really know their stuff

  6. Just keep it real no other Qb that came in with Justin could’ve did what he for the bears. I get he has flaws but overhyping Caleb and drake is insane to me , being honest Caleb isn’t better than Bryce or Cj I got time !

  7. Repeat last years move and trade #1 to a building team for a future #1 and give JF1 another year since he's been looking good with a questionable oc. Do we really want to reset now?

  8. Poles liked Chase Claypool because of his physical traits and was willing to trade a 2nd rounder for him. MHJ is the same size, but better in every other attribute. He really feels like Poles guy.

  9. What if we were to get Jim Harbaugh as our new Head Coach, don’t you think he would draft and go with J.J. McCarthy over Justin Fields. I think a new Head Coach deserves to pick his quarterback. Sometimes, people want something that causes the other show to drop and the dropping of that shoe might be trading Justin Fields.

  10. Crazy crazy thought, how about let the season play out then when you know the actual draft order and the needs after Free Agency, you can predict the draft. Bears talk has become constant mock draft/QB talk and it’s exhausting to hear
