  1. At this point, we have to expect 8 wins. Getting to a conference championship game will require the coaches of UT and UGA to just leave for another job. Which wont happen for the years to come. Though without divisions for the foreseeable future, we may never get to one.

  2. Let's say I want to pony up. Because on some level even tho he may have rubbed you wrong, he's right. I have a little extra cash to pony up. Where do I do that at?

  3. I don’t believe Stoops only listened to it. I believe he said yes, but when the fans pushed back on it, both parties agreed it was better to move on from it. A&M is not going to say he’s going to be the coach unless he says yes. Believe what you want, but that’s the most likely thing to happen. Not Stoops turning them down.

  4. Sounds fair.

The current band of assistants and coordinators could have gone on just fine without him had one of them been offered the job.

    They could have kept players.

In Texas Stoops would have been under tremendous more pressure for the same pay and starting with reportedly 80% negativity among fans and players. That would be a steep hole to start out of. And 3-4 years from now? It would all be over.

Meanwhile, the staff that stayed in Lexington just rolling along going to a Tennessee bowl game every year.

Stoops will be at UK forever.

  5. Glad Stoops is staying! With that said UK football needs to beat SEC wise Vandy, South Carolina, Missouri and Miss St every year. Then Florida, Auburn, Arkansas most years. Split meetings with Vols, Ole Miss. And once in a while compete or possibly beat LSU, Oklahoma or Texas. Georgia and Bama 4get about winning just hope to be somewhat competitive in those games. I feel like I'm forgetting somebody lol. 8-10 win seasons should always be the goal at a minimum most seasons imo.

  6. I think it is probably fair to say that both side saw the reaction of A&M fans/donors and there was some ill feeling about how it would play out. Both probably at that time decided it best to back away.

  7. That was difficult to follow since he was all over the place. So it was just a rumor started on a A.M. fan site?

  8. Matt sounds an awful lot like Alex jones , voice wise and conspiracy theories lol 😂 I mean he did go to Duke 😮

  9. Sorta the same way the Tennessee fans ran off Greg Schino after he had taken the job and look at UT now there no better off.

  10. If you are trying to say Kentucky is better than the A&M job. You honestly lose all credibility

  11. You mean to tell me that coaches that Stoops wanted to take with him who have a family to feed we’re going to choose unemployment instead of going to one of the richest and biggest football schools in America? The narcissist is lying again people.

  12. Matt's take sounds right to me as it takes into account what was happening on both ends.

  13. Stoops didn't reject Texas A&M, their board of regents or whatever rejected him AFTER their fans pushed back and were outraged over the idea. He was as good as gone and you know it.

  14. Elko was very well liked as the Defensive Coordinator at TAMU from 2018 to 2021 and it sounds like] most of people there are happy with the hire and glad to have him back

  15. Stoops said yes…Bjork did not have permission from the Board of Regents and the BoR stopped that hire. Stoops would be stupid to not take the A&M job to stay at Kentucky, a basketball school.

  16. Easy. Stoops is a known quantity, with 0 ties to A&M, active players, or recruiting base. Elko is an up and coming coach (maybe he'll be the next Smart, maybe he'll be the next Pruitt – only time will tell – but the unknown potential is certainly there), with incredible ties to A&M (one would argue that Jimbo's success largely fell on Elko's shoulders), connection to a big chunk of that locker room, and 4 years of recruiting experience in the area.

    That's why, for A&M: Elko > Stoops

That's not to say Stoops isn't good, as Aggie, I like the idea of Stoops coaching our team – but I like the idea of Elko coaching us better.

  17. Obviously, A & M is going to spin it as their call. DO you think they would put out there they were turned down by kentucky's coach? I dont know how it went down, but both sides have something to gain by putting themself in a positive light.

  18. A&M huge fan base reacted, I was one one of them. We felt that we were getting another Fisher with less of a mouth at about the same money. Kentucky is welcome to keep him and continue too win at a higher level than they would with most other coaches. while UK has some good assitants its not like Stoops could have replaced them in kind or better with the draw to A&M. Elko showed more at Duke witth far less than Stoops did at Kentucky and Elko already knew of the twisted culture at A&M and how to fix it. Stoops has already reached his ceiling at UK with his speach on getting NIL players to be able to effectively to compete in the SEC expansion and division drop which will be a challenge to Eastern division (former) teams on the lower half. If KSR wants a softer take to keep the heat off Mark theen go for it.

  19. Guarantee that Texas A&M got Elko at a way lower cost they could get Stoops for. I think that ultimately decided it. If they didn’t offer Mark something WAY MORE than he’s making now then the right choice is to stay at KY. Glad we get to keep him. Also glad to see schools like A&M going after our head coach, love the guy and if an opportunity arises for him to make more with more resources than good for him 🫡
