A big underlying pro is that the Phillies are putting it out into the baseball world that they support their own, and believe in their guys. That is enticing to prospective FAs, as it's a culture people want to join.

Phillies need better that Aaron Nola pitcher!!
Don't think this deal is the end of the world, but I would feel infinitely better about it if we sign an additional bonafide third starter, whether he ends up ahead or behind of Nola in the rotation. Otherwise, I would be hard pressed to expect different results next post season.
On the bright side like GatsbyCioffi mentioned below, this is a great locker room/team culture move on the Phillies part. Much like the Eagles, making it clear to players that "if you come here, we got your back" is never a bad thing.

He's not productive enough for that big of a contract at this stage of this career. He's not a bad pitcher, but you need more for that type of money IMO.

Nope philly needed 2 outfielders. Yet dumbroski puts all the chips into "just 500" Nola. 37 and 36 since 2020
Don't complain when Nola continues to start the team at 0 and 1 on opening day
Wheeler deserved to be paid.
I dont mind them bringing back nola (not crazy about the amount of years) but this roster has to change a little bit at least offensively. They have too many free swingers. They need a corner outfielder and another bonafide starter.
