Chipping vs Pitching: What’s the Difference?

In this video, Adam and Todd go over the difference between chipping, pitching and lobbing the golf ball. They discuss the right time and place to execute all the shots.

Chip Shot: When the ball travels on the ground longer and will have more roll out

Pitch Shot: When the ball travels longer in the air, usually going a longer distance with more spin.

Lob Shot: When the ball travel high in the air and travels a shot distance with a lot of spin.

  3. @1:45, discussion of being able to holster the gun after the shot.

    This is so good.

You two are incredible. Please do as many if these duo videos as you can. They are pure gold.

    Thank you!

  4. ❤ the way Todd explains his pitch, lob shots…..super useful….tremendous help. Thank you

  5. Go Cubbies!! I was totally not expecting to get choked up at the end of the video. You got me!

  6. What an incredible series, you guys are truly the best! I worked on it this am and was really good! Is it possible to early extend in chip & pitch shots? My right side seems to move into the ball as I rotate and blocks the path …is that something youve come across? many thanks Rob K

  7. The best short game lesson ever !!! If you don’t get better after watching this, you better try bowling.

  8. Thank you gentlemen for the life changing content. I’m getting ready to play my first round in 20 years tomorrow. I bought my wife some clubs and she practices with me to your drills every evening. We live on 5 acres of mowed yard so there’s plenty of room to practice. My Golden is now trained to retrieve my golf balls from soy bean field to the left and hardwood trees to the right, but most of the time i can hit the target on the broad side of our barn. Family fun for everyone! When i scuff a shot my wife will say, “ I see you haven’t taken your Porzak today.”

  9. This is some of the best content on YT, the small checks and tips are what help me understand the feeling and work this into my technique.
Chipping, pitching, lob shots for me are some of the most difficult shots in golf.
Get close to the green in general play and if you can master this you are shooting low and loving golf :-).
"Finally I get the meaning of the hinge and hold" lol!

  10. Appreciate the lesson. Great to see this collaboration. Increasing grip pressure is something I do, but have never heard it put into a training lesson. Great information! I seem to put half my practice time into my wedges! Thanks

  11. I took short game guru+ chip and pitch on the course today without a practice session and wowed myself,,, now to actually get a practice session and a bunker moment (no practice bunkers available) I have confidence.

  12. Hi – love the lesson…but what does Todd mean by setting the club shaft at 90 deg to the ground for the pitching stance? Thx!!

  13. So folks is your club face at address sq and for pitch and lob shots do you open the clubface in the backswing?

  14. Well that was fun! Just got back from the practice green and was just nailing these shots. Might have to go see Todd since his facility is just 30 minutes away.

  15. Mr Porzak.. I love watching you but PLEASE stop talking when your mentor is on.. you make it like a competition.. let us listen to just him during HIS videos

  16. Great video but did anyone else notice that the first lob shot at 9:17 was a double hit? Perfectly legal but with that technique, which I use as well, the double hit can screw you! Ask me how I know…🤣
