Hard pass for me. Not because of the contract dollars but the number of years. You can talk all the stats. My question still remains what is his upside. Is he a Cousins or Alex Smith type? Can he raise his level of play in the playoffs to take Detroit to the next level? I haven't seen him raise the level of the team in the regular season. He's been a cog in the machine that Campbell and Johnson have been orchestrating. He's not the engine. Just above a game manager. If Ben Johnson is here the 5 years sure but I don't see that happening. Cousins could get stats and win games/division but hasn't won anything of note. Alex Smith could win games and win divisions. He ultimately got replaced for lack of playoff success. Let's see what Goff does in the playoffs.
$44mil/year? I'm in on Goff for that price. I just don't think he takes less than $50mil/year.
Extend the Man !!!
I don't see Goff wanting to go play for some shit team or even a different team. He is a Brad Holmes guy. Brad Holmes had his back during the bad early days with the Lions. As long as the offer isn't insulting, he will probably be reluctant to leave. $45 mil/yr with a boatload guarantee, should make him happy. Also, like was mentioned, he has already been paid, it's not like he is broke.
How about we trade him after the year for draft picks. I'll take Draft Picks and Holmes.
I think u keep him year to year with lots of side incentives and the explanation or goal is to keep putting pieces around him to help the team.
Keep golf next season trade him to wherever Ben Johnson go for a round two draft pick. Extend Sewell and Saint Brown contract. Get hendon hooker ready.
I like goff bt bt enough to resing him period it dnt matter if he win us the sb or nt
I rather spend that 44 million on some defensive players. Some real studs. We are in a good spot to have some value if we trade them. Let's give our mobile quarterback hendon hooker a look and pay our offensive line and Saint Brown and Sewell
I think Goff has proved he is worth the money. I say sign him this year BEFORE Ben Johnson leaves. If the Lions wait too long, Ben could snatch him away after he becomes a head coach. If we let Goff go, then we need to cross our fingers and hope that Hendon Hooker, who has not played a single down in the NFL, is better than Goff. We might get lucky and Hooker could be another CJ Stroud or a complete bust like Bryce Young. Is it worth the chance on an unknown QB with what Brad Holmes has built? I say no.
Goff has all the leverage. Team members and fans will be on the side of Goff if he's asking for a reasonable contract. 45 to 48 million a year is reasonable when compared to what the market says. If you low-ball him and he sits and the Lions start losing, fans will be calling for someone to be fired.
Goff has done everything he has been asked and then some. Look at the lions schedule coming up and all I see is that price going up. He's going to have a big year and the Lions are going to win 13-15 games. Win the division title and could have the #1 seed. He could be in the top 3 MVP consideration. Goff has all the leverage.
I don’t know this a tuff situation.. maybe if he goes out there and wins a playoff game this year I can see it but if not then probably not
Daniel Jones and Kyler Murray can’t even lace J Goff’s cleats. And they r getting paid more than him. Pay him now or pay him alot more later. And Russell Wilson proved there is teams desperate enough to overpay for a QB. So I’m actually J Goff is holding all the cards 🃏 here not the lions 🦁
Goff is great guy, but he is just average QB who is a statue in the pocket. that Ravens game should of been an eye opener for Lions fans. the guy really struggles in bad weather because of his weak arm.
you don't draft a guy in the EARLY 3rd round to be a lifetime backup QB Lions fans. you will also not get great trade value from him because he has never seen an NFL field, 4th or 5th rounder max. you will not get 1st or 2nd for him like i heard people say.
you drafted a QB with a cannon of an arm and is mobile. the writing is on the walls, and your GM HATES to spend. start paying closer attention to his moves, the trade deadline should of been another wake up call. if Goff does get an extension, it will be 2 year max. just a fun prediction, let see if it's plays out.
HOOKER2024’…
I can't take anyone who says don't resign Jared Goff seriously. Dude deserves all the money he can get.
Goff should negotiate/structure a contract with an annual salary that leaves room to bolster the gaps in our roster. Of course, guaranteed, signing and production bonuses.
Goff is a team player! He will stay for a great price! No way we will have to bend over and pay him like we should. I say 3 years, 99 million. Maybe not even that much
U must re-sign this OL or upgrade it if u pay JG.
I think goff has the cards. He produces, he's unproblematic, and honestly he's great for this team. If he's bene good to us we should be good to him
Goff will have already made $188 million when his next contract starts. I think he'd take $210 million to be happy. He's been in a place that turned on him and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I think he enjoys being a member of the Detroit family and in Detroit he can go down as the best QB in modern franchise history.
How do we pay for the other guys , OLine, St john , you cant
Goff is not going to take less than Daniel Jones. Furthermore, if the Lions make the playoffs, the pric goes up! Also, if Lions try to low ball or franchise Goff, they will only disrupt the camaraderie and culture of this team!
Goff isn't going to sign for less than $50 million. Look at Kyler Murray's contract as the blueprint.
They going to trade goff
😂Let me get this straight. If Goff gets this squad to the NFC championship, with this inconsistent defense…Winning stootouts and slug fests, you wouldn't pay him 50 mil? Quite literally the dumbest sh*t I've heard.
I think it’s really funny that we talk about millions of dollars. One contract here is generational wealth for a lot of these high profile players. Don’t get me wrong, the money is important considering what you do. But at the end of the day if I’m a guy like JG, I’d be happy to take a more team friendly contract, because while quarterback salaries have gone up, the people getting them haven’t produced the way they need to. Pay me less, but give me incentives to encourage good play. Of course if you’re doing that you want to guarantee a good chunk of the contract, but why not?
JG would potentially make even more if he's franchise-tagged. There are 2 kinds of franchise tags (exclusive vs. non-exclusive). the exclusive franchise tag gives a one-year contract with a salary equal to the average of the top 5 salaries at their position for that specific season, or 120% of their previous year's salary, whichever is greater. The top 5 Qbs all make in the high 50 million range. If they do a non-exclusive franchise tag on Goff, they would still have to give him a one-year contract worth an amount equal to the average of the top 5 salaries at their position over the previous 5 seasons, or 120% of their previous year's salary, again, whichever is greater. But, other teams can jump in & offer Goff a better deal, so the Lions could potentially lose him & trust me, there are plenty of teams that would love to have Goff and pay that right now.
jared Goff would potentially settle for less with Detroit because they took a chance on him and gave him their full support. But players also have egos too. So he'll probably find it insulting if he's offered less than Jones.
