Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion – the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I’ve seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

  1. I don't know a lot about guns and less about bullets, but I found this video fascinating.

  2. All these variants are somewhat trying to solve a problem that they think existed.

In my mind if your hunting big game, 300 win mag hands down. It's fast and heavy, you aren't target shooting with it.
If your target shooting and hunting the 308 is probably still the best cartridge
If your mostly target shooting, and shoot alot throughout the day the 6.5cm is perfect because you can shoot 50 rounds a day and not even feel it.
Out of a gas gun, I would run 6mm ARC. You get better long range ballistics out of a 308 with 30% less recoil, and gas guns don't favor the performance the 6mm/6.5 bullets require.

  3. The 6.5 Creedmoor does nothing a 260 Remington won't do for less $$$ maybe people finally see that

  4. Sir, i got into the 6.5 a while ago, had a 6.5×284 custom made from the fine people from savage arms.i have reloaded many times, and its a good round. However sir, nothing has come close to the 300 wsm. I usually dont care about a mag.but the 300.wsm sir,you can take anything you want, might be a little short for elephant's, but i will take it over a 7 nag. If you disagree sir, please tell me

  5. Yup. And when ALL those good cartridges have become history for all except hand-loaders, the 6.5×55 will still be bowling over all the same beasts. Buy a new Sako or Tikka in 6.5×55 and forget the pundits. You'll have a lifetime companion.

  6. Correction on the Grendel;

It carries 1000 foot pounds of energy out to 400 yards, not 250. (24 inch barrel rating, but still)

  7. The creedmoor is not the fastest , not the cheapest not the newest and doesn’t have the highest BC . Its the sweet spot . Decent barrel life . Light recoil , average cost . Easy on the powder . Can efficiently take deer . Doest destroy smaller game . Been around awhile so you got a since its going to stick around. 👍🏼

  8. The FN FAL was designed for a 260 Remington/6.5 Creedmoor round. The US fukd that by demanding a 7.62

  9. I like hunting but the recoil is too much for me>>> says the sissys running 6.5creed. Can you shoot my deer for me my body is to soft to shoot anything bigger than a 22. And the loud sounds scare me. If you use 6.5c just put ur guns away and go to McDonalds. If you shoot game at anything over 100 yards you are not a hunter. 6.5C was made for the modern lower48er mangirls> wears crocs has soft hands and bird bones. Paper shooting kinda guys that think rambo tac gear is cool and he shoots at the range ,not to hit targets but to make a vid to show how rambo they look sending bullets rapid fire through the trees at a camp ground no back stop. One dippy shooter shot his camera guy, 10 guys shooting rapid fire and this derp jumps around getting camera shots than opps. Its sad what the modern lower48er has done to the shooting sports. Its all about wanting to be a 90's action star on facebook. Just sad weak lil men and there sissy lego rifles. Now people hunting people not bears or deer. P.S you "can" see rounds impact with magnum rifles at least men can. i don't think any 1 born after the year 2000 has the bones for magnum rifles. Look at Danglestar so scared he wears tac gear and a tin foil hat when sleeping>> he is a lego gun kinda guy. 6.5 sissmore. 6.5 fakemore 6.5 paysmore 6.5costsmore 6.5 scaredmore 6.5woundsmore

  10. I'll tell you, I was initially against it. I think it would solve most of it's PR problems if they called it 6.5×48. To me, Creedmoor sounds like a wild-cat cartridge or some kinda hipster niche cartridge.

  11. I think the fact that most new shooters I meet know 5.56, 7.62 and then 6.5 CM means it will be around for a long time. I don't think anyone I know outside of myself and another reloader has ever heard of any of those other cartridges. The only one that I think has merit is 6.5 PRC to replace 300 win mag. The real competition for 6.5CM will be the 270 fury once the military starts pumping out ammo for it. If it becomes as ubiquitous as 308 and has good ballistic performance like 6.5 then I can see a shift towards it.

  12. we had 2 hunters in our club that over half deer they shot waa not recovered with 6.5 these new calibers come out to keep you buying firearms test 30 tc against 6.5 in deer woods not on paper

  13. What does the caliber accomplish that others can't? If someone owns a 25-06 and maybe a 7mm Rem mag, what does the Creedmore do, or do so much better, that they would feel the need to buy one? Does it shoot farther? Does it kill deader?

Like all new cartridges, it was met with tremendous fanfare from the gun writers. In this regard, it was just the latest iteration of "caliber de jour" . This is a regular thing I have been aware of for some 60 years. Gun writers make a bug deal of them, and the regular bunch who must have the latest greatest cartridge run out and buy them. Then a new on comes along…

This how you sell rifles, It's how you sell more ammo. It's how to sell new loading dies, etc. For me, they have mostly been met wit a yawn for the past 50 years or so. NOW, WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE 6.5 CREEDMORE DOES, OR DOES MARKEDLY BETTER, THAN OTHER ROUNDS LONG AVAILABLE?

  14. No love for the 25-06? Pretty good hunting round for sure. Didn't really need these new formulations, but the more the merrier I suppose. I do think though each is good they are fragmenting the market to know real gain. Which makes it more expensive I believe.

  15. I'm highly interested in the 7mm PRC and the 6mm ARC cartridges.

The 6.5CM is pretty much equatable to the 270 Win as well. not alot of people know that. But the 6.5 and the 270 are essentially the same, ballistically speaking. 270 wins out just by a hair, but you also have to pay the price for the recoil and powder burn.

  16. Went shopping for a new hunting rifle this past week and let the sales people do their job even though I had already decided I wanted a 260 or 243. I was really just interested in hearing their opinions first. Went to Cabela's, sportsman's warehouse and a couple local shops. Every employee grabbed a 6.5 creedmoor right off the bat. I got Nothing against the 6.5 creed and they actually did a great job recommending a good gun. Everything went as I expected and settled on a 243 since the 260 was only available through special order and was out of my budget.

  17. I almost got one but my friend had one and had such terrible results with terminal performance on Georgia deer that I held off. 30-06 and 308, nothing's run more than 50 feet and 45-70, nothing's made more than 5 steps. I have no need to invent more beyond that.
