Low Drives – How to Fix Low Golf Shots with your Driver

Learn how to fix a low ball flight with your driver:

In this video we review things to consider when trying to fix a low ball flight in order to produce higher golf drives.

The first potential culprit for a low ball flight is the strike location on the clubface of your driver. If you hit the ball low on the face of your driver – below the sweet spot – you will find that your ball will travel lower than it should.

Next, you should make sure that your driver has enough loft to begin with. Many amateur golfers prefer a low ball flight that rolls upon landing but in reality, Tour Pros much prefer a high, floaty ball flight where the total distance (carry + roll) is significantly greater.

Then you should consider whether your driver shaft has the correct amount of flex. A driver that is too stiff in relation to a golfer’s swing speed will send the ball on a low trajectory.

The next item to consider is the ball position in your stance at address. A ball positioned too much in the center of your stance will see the clubface de-lofted, with your hands ahead of the ball. Make sure that the ball is positioned towards the instep of your front foot.

Finally, make sure that when you address the ball and when you strike the ball that your body weight is not too much forward. Yes, pushing against your lead side at impact is good for iron and wedge play but with your driver, you want the spine angle to tilt back somewhat.
