What are your thoughts on the bike brand crisis? 💥
It tells me I will hold off buying a new bike until prices actually start coming down. So far they haven't.
I understand advanced tech cost more, but road bike prices are out of hand!!! Hell some motorcycles cost less!!! It's insane. I'm still sporting my 2011 Cannondale Supersix. My wife is still on her 2014 Trek SLR. I built hers, I bought mine used in 2012. Just can't swing it with the rising costs. Hi-end bikes are now only accessible to the rich. It truly sucks. If I ever did pull the trigger I'd really have to scrutinize what I truly need to keep the cost down to something reasonable without breaking the bank. And then is that even worth it? Is it better than what I already have? It's so frustrating. Bike industry has become greedy.
Ironic that the industry blames costs associated with the pandemic, when a large amount of the money spent on bikes during and just post the pandemic which led to high prices are the cause of the rise in costs…
Let it burn they all think $$$ grows on trees, with hard times food and a roof over the head are more important than a high $$$ bicycle. I remember Specialized humble beginnings, one day I was hanging out in a local bicycle shop in San Jose California and this guy Mike Sinyard rode up to the shop on a cruiser bicycle with a front basket full of CINELLI handlebars and 2 or 3 bundles of Specialized tires of which he was trying to sell to bicycle shops and nowadays coughing up 15K for a bicycle totally nuts and they wonder why they and the bicycle Industry as a whole are seeing hard times. Lucky for me I'm just fine with my trust worthy 40 year old rim brake, friction only shifting bicycles, 40 plus years later they are 100% serviceable.
Most of these brands seem lots of the same thing…too many different standards of components.poor quality stuff don't last…simply too expensive…a proper cyclist wont waste money on it..anyone who spends more than a grand on a bike is a mug imo.
Need to go back to basics. Things got way too ritzy. Electronic shifting, e-bikes, triple full-suspended, carbon weave, titanium hydraulic dropper posted…
Hope they all go bust and stop forcing road cyclists to use disc brakes and electronic shifting, which no one ever needed.
I really wish you had done some analysis of the used bike market. Or do you really think your entire audience can afford to buy a new bike at the shops every year?
Decarbonize? People who are cycling want to be active and like riding. That is my case. This is really about if they can afford to buy and maintain a bike. I think it is all economics related.

On the Brand front, I prefer quality over quantity. So if its not viable for some, it seems that there so many brands now, I cannot make sense how all may be profitable, except that we are being seriously gauged 🤔

Although I'd had suspicions, it wasn't until I took up motorcycling 2 years ago that I realised how ripped off cyclists are. When you compare the engineering and technology that goes into motorbikes and what you get for your money compared to pushbikes it's staggering. Someone's had a real laugh at cyclist's expense.
What about ALL this non-recycleable carbon???

I hated Trek in the 80's for being the garden variety wanker everymans bike. I hate them now for buying up local shops and making them totally soulless. The bike shop used to be a social institution. The Trek stores are like a shitty 7-11 of bikes. I chalk this up to the average NPC getting into cycling because they heard cycling is the new golf.
Stop saying decarbonize, you wankers. The bad news is that even you lot are carbon-based lifeforms.
Let's not for get what cycling is meant to be, a cheap form of transport.!
Massive pull forward in demand during the pandemic led the entire channel to overestimate future demand which has led to an inventory glut – will take a good few years to clean up.
