What makes a golf course beautiful? Is it the routing, the bunkering, the setting, the strategy? To what extent does a golfer consider beauty in vision and politics, something Stanley Thomspon had to consider when turning the once Donald Ross (and previously William Thompson) design into this current Canadian masterpiece?
Join the TPL crew, Steve Young (Director of Golf at Fairmont Banff Springs), Christine Fraser (of Christine Fraser Design) and Kim Fisher (Parks Canada) as they dive into the golf course in its current form. The group explores wildlife management and coexistence with golfers, Stanley’s artistry and ability to mimic the surroundings at Banff into the golf course, key routing changes in the first half of the 20th century, deep dives on hole 4, 12 & 13 and Christine’s closing thoughts on Canadian beauty.

One day I will make the trip to this area
it is unconscionable that you only have 1.4k subs. This channel is one of the best in YouTube golf.
Kind of wild you had a section on the bunkering of Banff without discussing Robert Trent Jones. As Stanley charged Jones with the bunkering at Banff including most famously the current bunkering on the 4th hole.
Played it on Labour Day weekend 2021. At the time, I saw it as a very cold, very expensive round with some mountains around us. Using my old irons, putter, etc, made it play more difficult than it needed to be, and as I think back on it recently, I appreciate it more and more. It is likely very playable for higher handicaps as well. Played with 2 locals and one gave us good advice on many of the holes, and we did play the tips on number 15, while only playing the whites on the remainder of the course.Much more interesting a course than Kananaskis-Kidd. Very good episode, focusing on the course, and not the round you had there.
This is so well done!! Great job TPL 👏🏻! Looking forward to next episode!
come to ontario again
Incredible job, as always by the whole team. Christine's commentary enhanced it all. Great visuals, strong editing, quality story-telling. See you soon, TPL gang…
Just opening with my favourite Arkells song 🎉 great job 👏
Great work!
