Love the comparisons to the roman empire rather than football! Much better anecdote, and a better observation too.
Sprint then qualifying?! Oh yea, and what happens if in the sprint a driver crashes?😂😮
GET CRAIG ON AGAIN!!
Who the hell ia Trommo?
I think the sky kissing is still too high and not enough time was given to the likes of Lando and Max for a second it felt like sky Mercedes not sky f1
Does anyone actually believe this Alonso rumour? Seriously? Dumbest thing ever.
Craig is solid. Should invite him more
Daniel Riccardo has had 2 good weekends in 3 years.
You can't have a conversation about bettering the sprint format without addressing parc ferme, it's ruining things for the teams. We had 2 high level DQs that resulted from the teams not having time to adequately set up the car. Not to mention that parc ferme means keeping the same plank for both a sprint and full GP but no change to the plank wear tolerance (despite racing an extra 3rd of GP distance).
I think as the sprint replaces practice sessions, they should still be allowed to derive information from the shootout and sprint to then set up and change their car for the GP quali and race. Format might be:
Friday – FP1, FP2 & hot lap shootout
Saturday – AM sprint, final setup/repairs, parc ferme, PM GP quali
Sunday – GP
That could make things dangerous if you crash in the sprint as there isn't an overnight to fix the car, but if allowed to race still, could maybe forego quali and have to start last.
6 sprint weekends is definitely too many. I think 3-4 is probably the sweet spot.
Swap the timing for the GP quali and sprint grid shoot out, make the sprint quali a 1-lap shoot out in the driver championship standings’ order and you are onto a winner!
Oh and Parc ferme only kicks in after the 1st session on Sat for the GP quali.
Regarding the Sprint Weekends – The logical answer is: Friday – Free Practice and Sprint Shoot out, Saturday – Sprint Race, then GP Qualifying. ….only after GP Qualifying should Parc Ferme begin. – Letting Teams/Mechanics work on the cars and make set up changes on the Friday night and Saturday right up to the start of Qualifying is essential!
Sprint weekend:
Friday: 1.5 hour practice, oneshot sprint quali.
Saturday: Sprint race – half race distance instead of one third – minimum one stop – minimum two compounds, Grand Prix quali in afternoon.
Sunday: Grand Prix – every Grand Prix is minimum two stop minimum two compounds.
Craig was the voice of reason here.
Regards, and peace and love from New Zealand.
default nr 2 becomes divebomb nr1 !!!!
Not impressed
Make Craig Slater a regular! I thoroughly enjoyed his thoughtful insights even as a not so knowledgeable fan.
We haven’t even raced in Vegas yet F1 is far from the peak. Also Lawrence Stroll is a businessman first and foremost, if he’s offered a price he can’t refuse he’ll sell.
1st and last viewing. Rename it to Mercedes AMG F1 and Lewis Hamilton podcast
I do like the sprint one lap concept. The sprints are becoming non events though. Every sport is going through this phase of diluting their product – and its all motivated by money.
slater totally pisses me off, talks so much shite
