  1. I was always too small growing up in an era where athletes were regularly picked based on size, especially for hockey defensemen, so I was forced to play winger. I've been playing defense since my early 20s and very rarely find anyone who can out battle me in the corners or in front of the net! I've always had more of a protective nature and playing defense was my calling. Unfortunately I grew up 1 generation too early and the NHL dream is certainly over. That said I love being a short pain in the ass to play against to this day and will for as long as I can. Go short kings!

  2. I'm 5 foot 10, intermediate skilled player, and all I can say is I'm glad I play non contact, some of the guys I play with are around 6 foot 4 and beef cakes.

  3. All right, but its like every players: gotta see how they are in playoffs. I agree that size isn’t a big factor in hockey nowadays, but when playoffs crash and bang hockey starts, a lot of players (even big guys) are not playing at their best. Let’s take marchessault this year, he did play perfectly. He was always crashing the net or being ready in the slut

  4. TJ Tynan is the definition of to small for the NHL. The guy dominates the AHL but at the NHL level he’s tiny. At 5’8” 165 lbs he just doesn’t have the same opportunities.

  5. you need crazy talent to play in the NHL as a smaller player, also if you are hit its devastating, and the smaller players can get more head shots from elbows, so Jack has crazy talent, and I hope it helps him avoid injuries too

  6. Look at Joe Pavelski, elite playoff performer, small, and he’s not blessed with effortless skating abilities

  7. The game hasn't changed. Gretzky wasn't a big player. There are many smaller finesse players with great hockey sense today and lots of speedy players. But if you watch the playoffs, it's still extremely important to have players and especially defensemen that play a heavy game.

  8. Teams needs "smaller" agile skill guys, as much they need huge hulking Dmen. Bigger is not always better. Both have strengths and weaknesses
