Insider Trading: Jets’ attendance creates growing concerns

TSN’s Hockey Insiders examine Winnipeg’s attendance woes, a new NHL Draft format that teams have until Tuesday to vote on, the league working to host a ‘traditional’ draft next June, Craig Anderson retiring as a Senator and the latest on free agent Phil Kessel.

  1. It speaks as to why the NHL will never return to Quebec City: limited fanbase potential.

Look. It’s one of the earliest games in the year against Florida, I get it. But that’s pretty terrible numbers for any team at any time in today’s league.

This is of course not to discount that Jets fans are dedicated and very into their team, no one denies that. But, Winnipeg is so small, and not exactly the most culturally relevant city. Its a very limited fanbase in terms of growth, and the same applies to QC.

If the NHL had to choose between Atlanta for the third time and Quebec city for an expansion team, it’s no surprise they’d do ATL.

  2. jets fans are probaly bored of that painfully mediocore ass team. also with lots of people struggling financially i doubt even going to an expensive hockey game is even on their mind. i dunno if winnepeg is as bad as most places but even then it still not cheap

  3. I would have thought that after the first time they lose the team that they would be grateful to get a second chance but that is not the case. They should be doing everything to support the team because they will not get a third chance!

  4. When you have to choose between taking your family to a game or paying rent (they cost roughly the same) you typically choose to pay rent.

  5. As an x winnipegger…. ha!

I left in two thousand fifteen and will never go back.

Winnipeg is just full of baby boomers who just don't listen.

You can talk and talk and talk but nothing changes.

I can't wait until the jets leave again.

  6. Move the jets to Houston already. Jets fans are the most spoiled crybabies in sports. Lost the jets once, about to lose them again!!!

  7. Phoenix can only hold 5000 and we are talking about this? It's unaffordable to go to hockey games. Or any sport for that matter. The average fan is being priced out.

  8. Not worth the money plain and simple…
.. plus when toronto stops voting in trudeau maybe the cost of living might come down again

  9. Honestly 230 for a game pair in the nose bleeds 160 bought bought lower bowl pair just a couple years ago , they need to bring down prices
