On this week’s episode on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, we are joined by former Wales captain and Premier League footballer turned coach Craig Bellamy.
Craig takes on Gary at the Cube in Manchester before a fascinating sit-down interview.
Having clocked up over 500 professional appearances and represented nine clubs over a career that spanned almost 20 years, Bellamy does not lack in stories to tell.
Find out how much of a big influence legendary boss Bobby Robson was at Newcastle United before an acrimonious fall-out with Graeme Souness led to a St James Park departure.
Hear the full anecdote on his infamous Golf attack at Liverpool and which other member of the squad was involved in a separate incident on the same night. Bellamy also reveals where he was told to look for another club under Rafa Benitez.
Craig reveals his own mental health battles from childhood through to career injuries and the impact of losing a close friend and former-team mate Gary Speed.
Finally, we talk about how the Cardiff-born man has ventured into coaching through his love of the tactical side of the game and how he won’t be changing his philosophy any time soon.

Always loved Bellamy
Comes across so well.
This is the best overlap episode yet, brilliant
Fair play to Craig for opening up. He's very interesting to listen to
Really changed my opinion of Craig Bellamy after this. Loves his honesty / truthfulness.
One of the best interviews yet.
Thanks Craig for being real. Open and sincere.
Wish you all the best mate.
Listening to Bellamy the way he describes his change in moods, his thought patterns, is literally exactly how I behave & feel, I think this has persuaded me to see someone. Once I come out of it (whatever it is) I actually say to myself WTF am I doing
I’m so glad I stopped in to watch this cus this man no what life is about gg cheers Craig
I remember the whole Gallowgate end shushing Bellars every time he argued with the referee
He actually seems like a decent bloke these days. All the best to him in the future
One of the most refreshingly honest interviews I’ve seen from a footballer. Kudos to Craig. Glad he’s still thriving and learning. That’s the lesson kids need. Bit to be perfect, but to learn from your mistakes. Sadly for him, his learning was a little late. But at least he’s taking accountability and owning it.
Amazing when you own your mistakes and be accountable we gravitate towards those people.
Such an amazing interview, pure honesty. Gary does get the best out of people. I think this may have been quite cathartic for Craig as well.
Great call to interview Bellamy nev. Loved his book, in his prime Craig walks into the current Chelsea team. Chin up mate and good luck for the future.
I like how you call it an "exclusive" as if anyone else was queuing up to interview him
I loved watching Bellamy at Celtic.
Love you Craig , fellow Trowbridge boy! Proud of you
Great episode. Probably my favourite. What a player he was on his day.
Will always remember Bellamy for Celtic playing against my team at Easter Road, he was totally unplayable, no one could get near him that day.
He's changed a lot. When I met him he was a Per-rrrroper Nobhead. No grudges though, he's clearly chilled out.
amazing interview, well done Gary for letting him speak,it almost felt like it was a therapy session for him and really ended to soon
