The Strong Grip is RUINING YOUR GOLF

►For most golfers the strong grip is ruining your golf game. Obviously like every golf move/position there are exceptions to this but predominantly based on 15 years coaching experience this tip runs true for a lot of players

  1. If you SLICE with a strong grip then you have far too many compensations in your swing to ever be consistent. Let’s fix it.
Follow & then DM me on the Skillest Golf Coaching App.

  2. crazy how accurate this is, and i've never seen it explained this well in a video before (i've seen tons of them)

i learnt by myself during lockdown and spent a whole year with that kind of grip, compensated the left misses by kind of "driving" the ball, and the inconsistency was crazy
went to my first golf lesson and changed it immediately, first i lost a whole club, but a few weeks later i had already gained it back by compressing the ball (which i thought i was doing when closing the face, turns out it is something different)
the difference in dispersion was abysmal from day 1, and dropped from 24 hcp to 18 the next tournament

keep the good work Andy, hope you gain the followers you deserve

  3. Such true words thanks for all the lessons / tips got down to 12 from 15 only playing once a week thanks again it hard work put practice in you gain.
By the way have you been giving Rick lessons ? I am ask you could you give Guy some lessons as he will never beat Rick .

  4. I feel like this is just one of those videos that tells you the opposite of what everyone else tells you to do to stand out. There are far far too many professional coaches that recommend a strong grip to believe that it's ruining your game

  5. I 100% agree with you. I’ve always used a neutral to slightly weak grip. I can hit it high, or low. And can also work the ball either direction.

  6. Question, what happens if you are a very low handicapper, that has a strong (or weak) grip, and can manage their bad strike days, by understanding how they can play with what they have on that day. I’ve seen many a “bad’ grip low low handicapper, play good golf. But a lot of their gains comes from smarter golfing decisions than a going through a grip change that can utterly destroy their way of playing. ( i do agree though the way too far under or over with the bottom hand can kill a swing, but it doesnt stop someone who has a good golfing brain from shoot a respectable score).

  7. Amazing … i realised this today and made the change !!! this is good advice feels weak at first but works

  8. Andy, completely agree about losing pro v1s.
Get yourself a few dozen Kirkland signatures for your demonstration videos and hit those shots to show exactly what you're saying.

  9. You're half wrong and also half right….. IF someone with a strong GLOVE grip AND … AND with that a very WEAK underneath other hand …. then it's a disaster …. while actually MOST with strong grip on the glove hand WITHOUT that weak other hand… it can be really good…. almost ALL good golfer i've ever seen in my life have a strong GLOVE hand rather than anything closer to centered…. !!!!

  10. Spot on Andy. I´ve been fighting a strong grip for years which came about from reading a golf magazine article when I first started playing, about Freddy Couples having a strong grip. I the last couple of years I´ve worked on a more neutral grip so with the woods I can hit a fade nicely, but now and again this old bad habit of regripping sneaks back in a suddenly I´ve hit a snap hook or worse, shut the face completely that I hit a heel shank low and left. Whereas my more neutral iron grip produces a little fade, unless I´m swinging it full out, then I will over draw it, so have to hit a long club to get the same distance with a more neutral grip. So basically, everything you just said applies here.

  11. I need help. I had a neutral grip when I started lessons, and my PGA instructor has completely moved me to a strong grip (3 knuckles) and is changing everything with my wrists, path, etc. I can’t tell whether he’s helping me or selling me a bag of goods.

  12. I’ve followed you for at least a year, probably 2. I’ll check the Skillest out. The pro is wanting me to come inside out, which is happening, but the strike is a lot less consistent than it’s ever been. When I hit it well, I’m hitting a beautiful slight draw that is going a good distance for me (e.g. 180 yards carry with an 8 iron). I’m 54 yo, so not a young buck anymore.

  13. Another great tip Andy. I've found recently that my 100 mtr and in shots have been going left even though driver and longer irons are pretty much straight. After having a few practise swings without a ball it seems when I pull one of my more lofted clubs out of the bag I adopt a stronger grip. Looks like more practice at the range but before that I have a comp to play on Thursday so will focus on grip and see how I go.

  14. Damn Andy… I almost took that personal. 😂 I will definitely be taking this advice to the course. Cheers friend 🍻

  15. Bad advice unless you are a hooker. Most amateurs slice so they would be better off with a stronger grip or keep the club face looking at the ball.

  16. I have a stronger grip for years. As you say, lots of good stuff but the bad shot is a low running duck hook!!😢

  17. I tried this change this morning and my irons were going where I wanted them to and even got my first Eagle 2 of the year 🎉, thanks Andy 👍.
