F1: Red Bull ‘close to perfection’ – Damon Hill on Max Verstappen claiming his 3rd World title

Damon Hill discussed the Qatar GP and Max Verstappen claiming his third world title, stating his belief that teams will need to ‘achieve perfection’ in order to surpass Verstappen and Red Bull in the future.

Lewis Hamilton retired after a first-lap crash with Mercedes team-mate George Russell before newly crowned world champion Max Verstappen eased to victory in the Qatar Grand Prix.

Having confirmed his third successive drivers’ title in Saturday’s Sprint at the Losail International Circuit, Verstappen calmly dealt with unprecedented tyre regulations – brought in for the race amid safety concerns – to ease to victory from pole position ahead of McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

Verstappen’s task was made more simple when Russell and Hamilton, starting second and third on the grid, respectively, collided at the first corner, leaving the seven-time world champion stricken in the gravel and his team-mate at the back of the field.

  1. Deamon you absolute hypocrite, couldn't put max down hard enough until christian owned you live on sky f1. Shame on you.

  2. I can understand Mercedes maybe having told Russell not to attack Hamilton if Hamilton would have been ahead before the turn 1 entry but saying they should have maybe told him to let Hamilton past anyway is utterly ridiculous.

  3. Former racing drivers are the best pundits. Be it DC, Damon or Martin Brundle. As a German who always watches English commentary, I really appreciate their views because all of the mentioned drivers are really neutral. Unlike the rest of the Sky F1 team, especially Ted who is insuffrable.
And as a Max fan, I have to admit that Lewis making such a blatant mistake is really uncharacteristic. You don't become a 7-time WDC by only having the fastest car, you also have to be consistent and not make many mistakes. So yeah, while it was Lewis' fault (as well as him driving into Checo in Japan), it shows the amount of pressure he is under. It's not an excuse, it's only an explanation.
Max has matured hugely over the past years and is in the enviable situation of being able to pick his fights – just like Lewis was during the Merc dominated years.

  4. My GOD will nobody from the Sky Sports F1 team EVER admit that Lewis Hamilton is in the wrong and is to blame??? Every single time they make an excuse for him! In 2021 when Max Verstappen was on the outside and in front of Lewis, plus fighting for the championship and Lewis hit Max and put him of into the wall at 185mph and the Sky sports F1 presenters/team of 'experts' blamed Max lol. This time Lewis was on the outside and not even fighting for the championship and they said that George Russell had NOWHERE TO GO, but yet they find an excuse for Lewis by saying its the teams fault because they should of told George to let Lewis past😂😂😂. How on earth could he let Lewis past? He literally had NOWHERE TO GO LOL, and it was also Lewis' choice to put the soft tyres on, so why should George Russell let him past? George opted for the medium tyre, so why didn't Lewis? I am British and I like Lewis Hamilton, and what he's achieved in the sport is exceptional!!! However, when he was racing with McLaren and the first few years at Mercedes GP, he was called out for his mistakes, and rightly so, but for whatever reason, the past 6 years has been absolutely pathetic in terms of Lewis being blamed for absolutely zero. It's got that bad that the Sky Sports F1 channel is being called the Lewis Hamilton show, and the one person who said it straight was Paul DiResta and they got rid of him, for telling the truth lol,it's crazy. Even Nico Rosberg has toned his views down on Lewis, which is strange. It's as if their scared stiff of being called racist if they say Lewis is to blame, and I have cancelled my Sky Sports subscription because of it, and I watch the channel 4 highlights instead because David Coulthard admirers Lewis Hamilton and praises Lewis when Lewis does something to be praised for but calls Lewis out if he's to blame, which is exactly the way it should be, but even the channel 4 team skirt around the issue sometimes too, when they wouldn't do it for any other driver. When Martin Brundle and DC were at the BBC,which is notoriously biased, they still called out Lewis for his mistakes like they did for every single other driver, but now even Martin Brundle doesn't call Lewis Hamilton out as much, he still does more than the rest but not nearly as much as he used to. Maybe that's why Martin Brundle is hardly ever there as much now, they've probably did the same as they did to Paul DiResta and told him to stop calling out Lewis or your contact will be altered, because Brundle was the main commentator for Sky sports F1 but now they have Karun Chandhok who is Indian alongside David Croft. Now Karun Chandhok is an encyclopedia when it comes to F1 knowledge and i love his insight into the sport and he is a former F1 driver too, but why hasn't he replaced David Croft instead?and out of all the British female drivers out there, Sky opted for Naomi Schiff who is a Rwandan who raced in W series and had NO WINS and NO PODIUMS and finished 16th in the championship. In fact in all the championships she's raced in, her record is 17th,11th, 14th, 7th, 11th, 36th and 16th. She did come 2nd in the 24hrs of Nurburgring cup X but had another 3 drivers alongside her and her teammates had finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th many many times and also had bad results too,but credit where credit is due, and she won the Clio cup China and won 7 races but the series had celebrities driving in it,like Hong-Kong TV and movie star Alex Fong and Lin Li Feng was another guest appearance in the Shanghai race and actually got pole position and won the race, not bad having a 100% win record, even if it is 1 race and 1 win 😂😂😂. The point i am making is that we are hiring people with a mediocre record at best but is actually terrible, and they are being hired before any of the far more talented and experienced people we have in our own country. Before you start throwing the racist card at me, Naomi Schiff isn't even British, and yet she's on a British TV show as an 'expert' but we have far better drivers with more expertise in our own country. Why should women or men be passed over for a British TV show for a foreigner which in itself isn't a problem, but when the foreigner hasn't got a fraction of the skill or expertise that the British person has that they have taken the job away from, it's a huge problem and it also dilutes the TV show too, because the likes of Naomi Schiff is NOWHERE NEAR as good as Jamie Chadwick who was the W series(womens series)champion and had won it 3 times in 4 years, and who is of mixed race with an Indian mother, yet they've only have her on a couple of times, and she said she hopes/hoped to be on an awful lot more on Sky Sports F1 but she's went and got a drive in Indy NXT for former F1 World Champion Mario Andretti Autosport, rather than wait around on a phone call to be a presenter on Sky Sports F1 that will probably never come, because the job went to someone that you absolutely annihilated when you raced her by coming 1st and winning the World Title and she came 16th. Channel 4 have brought Alice Powell into the Channel 4 F1 presenters team. Alice, who is a British female driver who was 2nd in the W series and has 5 wins and 11 podiums to her name, which is obviously a FAR superior record to Naomi Schiff, and they were also racing against each other, which Alice always came out on top. Yet Sky Sports F1 passed up on her as well for another woman who is nowhere near the calibre of driver that either Jamie Chadwick or Alice Powell is, and although Alice is red haired and milk white, as all red/fair haired people are lol, but Jamie Chadwick who is the best driver of them all, is light brown skinned due to her Indian mother, so you would think that a British channel would want a British woman, and is also the best driver, and is even a big ✅ tick in the diversity box because she is a minority too, but NO, she is passed over for someone who is from another country and is nowhere near as good as her! Do you think Rwandan TV would hire Alice Powell with her milky white skin over Naomi Schiff? If you do think that, then you are an absolute fool! You should get a job on MERIT!!! and not because the colour of your skin will make it look like your diverse, but why not get a black female British driver? They are out there and have been passed over too. Sky Sports F1 channel and Sky Sports as a whole has became an absolute joke because of their diversity policy, and their product has suffered in the process. There are plenty of brilliant black, brown, white and every colour of people you can get, but they should be getting the job because they are the best person for the job, whatever colour they are, and like I said at the start of this book lol, people shouldn't be afraid to criticise people like Lewis Hamilton because of the fear of being called racist! It's way beyond a joke now, where you can't say what obviously really happened because one of the people in the incident is black. Lewis Hamilton is a great driver and certainly doesn't need to have an excuse made for him when their his mistakes and I don't think even Lewis Hamilton wants to live in a world where you can't tell the truth when a black person does something wrong, because that is definitely NOT equality!!!

  5. Never thought that I'd be guilty of the sort of comment that smacks of anti-fanboism:

"They just don't deserve to be the dominant team in F1. Allegedly, The FiA are favouring them tor a consideration. The way they behaved to Sir Lewis and Mercedes and Ferrari and Aston Martin wasn't competitive, in or out of racing; it was unsportsmanlike, nasty, sneaky, underhand, super grass stuff, racist even; as well as cost cap busting, cheating, corrupting with USD $Multi-Billions from RedBull deep pockets, to brong into disrepute F1 as an alleged official race result fixing and blatant robbery, to smash the 8 year long Mercedes and Sir Lewis dominance of F1."

RedBull's team principal Christian Horner and Austrian advisor Dr Helmut Marko are not at all nice people.

They are living proof that some humans will do anything for money and an opportunity to behave as badly as possible and actually get people to like the the brand, even though they're friends with the guilty criminal who is the F1 franchise. ex-supremo.

  6. I am more fascinated as to how blatantly biased some comments in here are, than in how 'unclean' a racer Hamilton is in reality.

  7. Uncharacteristic! WTF! Lewis always drive like he's in a dash car, He has no concept of wheel to wheel racing. It's like these ppl are his PR team, right after he crashes into someone they'll start making things up in between gathering more info.

  8. How many times is it gonna be uncharacteristic of Lewis? The first time maybe? The 2nd one? The 3rd one? It'll be 2030, Lewis will still be racing and causing accidents is still gonna be uncharacteristic of him… when does it become characteristic? It's also uncharacteristic of Max to cause accidents when he's 30s ahead.

  9. Damon looking like Catweazl.

Edit: And of course talkling complete bollocks (or is it bias) again.

  10. Damon started on the right track saying that Max is a a new breed of racers but forgot the one thing that this generation has over all the generations before them, the simracing scene. Guys like Lando and Max have so many extra hours behind the wheel and are so used to drive lap after lap in full concentration. It aren't just the hours but also the fact that drive so many different series online that making them highly adaptable to any kind of driving characteristics the car trows at them.

  11. i am dutch and lewis going over the track was nothing its was the firts lap so all the cars are gone he has a little more then a minute to cross over so safe in my mind

  12. Just watched Qatar sprint race it was a disgrace what is formula one did to Oscar and McLaren after he win the sprint race he should have drove onto the stage and not Max F1 stole the limelight full McLaren and oscar formal side they are the best championship in the world what can make the biggest mistakes ever and steel drivers victories glory
