In what would become one of the greatest head to head battles in golfing memory, Sweden’s Henrik Stenson and American Phil Mickelson blew away the field on a memorable day in South Ayrshire.
After three round and 56 holes jostling for position, it was the pair of Stenson and Mickelson who teed it up on Sunday with a clear advantage over the rest of the field. On Sunday where the lead changed hands on multiple occasions with every birdie putt made or missed, it was Stenson who emerged victorious to hoist the Claret Jug at Royal Troon.
