Matt Jones talks Kentucky football’s disappointing performance at Georgia

Kentucky was flat-out embarrassed by Georgia on Saturday night, falling by 38 points in a 51-13 blowout loss in Athens. But that wasn’t enough for the Wildcats to completely fall out of the updated USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

On Sunday afternoon, Kentucky fell three spots from No. 20 to No. 23 in the Week 7 Coaches Poll while Georgia continues to hold down the nation’s top spot. UK is one of seven Southeastern Conference programs among the updated Top 25 — Georgia (No. 1), Alabama (No. 10), Ole Miss (No. 13), Tennessee (No. 17), LSU (No. 20), Kentucky (No. 23), and Missouri (No. 25) make up the SEC’s representatives. Meanwhile, in-state rival Louisville shot up 10 spots to No. 15 following the Cardinals’ 33-20 upset win over Notre Dame.

Up next for Kentucky is a showdown against the Missouri Tigers, which also stayed in the Coaches Poll Top 25 despite losing to LSU 49-39 on Saturday. Missouri checks in at No. 25, a three-spot drop from last week. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. EST in Lexington on the SEC Network.

  1. You finally get 1 chance to show the world who Kentucky football is and completely and utterly fuck it up. Shame on all coaching staff and the players who made elementary school penalties because Shame is all I feel right now.

  2. Kentucky started out 5-0 because they played weak teams. Now they are playing SEC the elite teams, they are not ready. Mark Stoop needs to go!

  3. I'm a UGA fan and I'm surprised at how bad they beat Kentucky but if the game had been their it might have been different who knows but if we had played like we did last night it probably wouldn't have mattered Go Dawgs

  4. Not ready for prime time…..Just a terrible effort by the players and the coaches didn't have them ready to play….Why aren't you doubling one of the best players in the country Brock Bowers?…

  5. UK fans need to get back to reality. We are not a football power house, and we don't have the recruits to compete. Our offense needs to evolve, and we actually need a qb that can throw a football. Music City bowl bound lmao.

  6. This game and Kentucky’s Ray Davis had me worried going in. Kirby and Co. clearly practiced shutting Davis down. And that they did! He was Kentucky’s only real weapon and he got stuffed like a thanksgiving turkey.

  7. I said it all week. UK is always good before they play UGA. Remember when both team where 5-0 and UGA. But what happen ? Ill wait!!! Tenn came in as the #1 an look what happen?

  8. Stoops has built a team a lot like Georgia in concept, but with dollar tree inventory. Not having an explosive pass game is always the fly in the ointment

  9. We will never be an elite top ten team, and I hate to say it but we are a basketball school. We never have the best of the best recruits and never will. Although I did not think we’d get thrashed so badly. Our QB is just not delivering at all, he’s not as he was advertised and that’s a big reason.

  10. Players acting like children with these stupid penalties demonstrate the level of the program. Discipline is the first sign the culture is established. It's not there with KY yet. Go DAWGs!!!

  11. Matt your right, Arrogance and big Humble Pie got served. This braggadocious bunch is not very classy at times.

  12. I was totally EMBARRASSED at half time could not continue after that did not watch the second half.

  13. Im gonna throw it out there. Stoops isnt the guy. He will never move us beyond what we are right now. Its not that we lost to UGA, most of us expected that. It the way in which we lost. Total and utter embarrassment. Stoops has been given the world, including being overpaid, and has yet to move the needle in the SEC. Time to call a spade a spade.

  14. I think this Georgia team is better offensively than the last two years. The defense isn’t as good because they are almost all sophomores.

  15. Kentucky caught Georgia at the wrong time. They played horrible on the road last week. I knew Kirby would be in their asses all week and they would come out on fire. Kentucky has the 2nd best team in the east. I like them over Tennessee. Stoops is a great coach. Y’all held us to a season low last year. Good luck on the rest of your season

  16. Talking about the penalties… or even the massive coaching blunder that Miami had, or what felt like clock management issues we had… at some point you look to the coaching staff. You know what teams rarely, if ever, have those types of ridiculous penalties, or coaching blunders? The Nick Saban teams, the Kirby Smart teams, the Ryan Day teams. Yes those teams have penalties, nobody is arguing that, but damn it, those teams are always the best disciplined teams and the best coached teams. The simply don't make as many mistakes as we do. They already have the best players, but you can't do stupid sh!t like we do and beat them. I love Stoops, but you'll not convince me that if we had a Nick Saban or Kirby Smart type coach we would do some of the BS we do. We would recruit better, we would be better disciplined and we would rarely have any coaching blunders. Period.

  17. Kentucky has a very good program. They are built the same as Georgia is built. But Georgia has better players and coaches in every group. In the immortal words of the Great Stetson Bennett, "It's not the X's and O's, it's the Jimmies and Joes"

  18. Kentucky forfeited this game before it even started. Embarrassing isn't a strong enough word. Hopefully this bed shitting doesn't effect recruiting but it probably will.

  19. aaaaaahhhahhahaaaahhhaaa I was right there where UKilled came out of the locker room and they seemed cocky and full of hope, even taunting the crowd. Oh well

  20. This is a mentality issue. These guys were way over hyped and this part of our new culture is still new. The "we belong" aspect of our new culture is coming but slowly.

As for Learly, I'm not sure what is going on but there is something not right. He has a great ball but just seems to be all over the place. Idk

  21. Kentucky always gets pumped up to much without diserving the credit it gets in there head and they had their asses handed to them that’s their history

  22. Hey fella's, you do know Kentucky plays with a round ball. The Cat's will see the Dawg's again on Saturday the 20th of January. Where will that game be played? Lol…I don't think it will make a difference! Go BIG BLUE!

  23. Kentucky played stupid Saturday night, that comes from coaching . Apparently Stoops doesn’t teach how you play he game.

  24. Matt jones loves to talk about Louisville 😂😂 worry about your team getting their 6th win before you start worrying about Louisville, ohh and btw it’s pretty clear cut Louisville is the better team currently if you think Kentucky is gonna walk into our stadium and win like they have the last 4 years you’re sadly mistaken Louisville is gonna be very motivated to hand Kentucky an L for the first time ina while. Good luck on y’all’s season I hope you guys bounce back cause I’d love to see a ranked Louisville vs Kentucky football game
