This is true of all sports, but especially golf. The course is a place where civility is a top priority. There are endless rules, most of which are unwritten, even unspoken. As such, when you go there you can rely on a predictable and ordered environment. It encourages qualities such as respect, honor, and sportsmanship. In many regards, it is an oasis for men because this doesn't exist in general society, or generally speaking, in the woman's world we live in.
So when the order is broken, things can get hot real quick!! But on the flip side, it's also a place where men are allowed to deal with confrontation as men should. No therapy sessions or HR departments involved, just immediate conflict resolution. Does this mean that sometimes we fight? Damn straight!
The rules of golf are a joke to be quite honest about it and as a 40 yr retired club pro I'm happy to see a few important changes being adopted over the past few years…But why did it take eons to allow the tapping down of spike marks…?.. .Now that everyone wears spikeless isn't it really to late…?…Why did it take eons to reverse the 2 shot penalty when a players ball is on the green and strikes the flagstick…?…Now it seems perfectly ok…Why are we still dropping the ball…?…How about placing it instead of dropping it…That flagstick penalty rule cost me a trip to the US open decades ago…Now we are allowed to ground our club in a hazard with the exception of a bunker…A whole lot more needs to be done imho…We wrote the USGA often but they fell on deaf ears…A few changes recently but miles to go imho…
