On this episode of Fish Talk Live presented by Phillips Auto Group, we’re talking with Capt Dylan Hubbard, owner of Hubbards Marina to discuss the recent changes to the 2023 Gag Grouper Season. There has been a lot of talk with the recent changes submitted by NOAA and we want Dylan’s input on this subject. As a last-minute addition to this episode, Andy Strelcheck from NOAA Fisheries answering our questions and concerns so get those questions ready. So there are no data documenting a catch rate indicating the quota will be met by 10/19, and the closure is based on an assumption from some unnamed person/group that reducing gag season from 6 months to about 2.5 months will lead to more intensive effort and thus the quota will be met in 48 days by 10/19? Much of the gag fishery is in the NE Gulf of Mexico and the fishing was reduced due to the hurricane. NOAA calls this process "science"?

  2. I wish all guides were like this. Seems all the ones I book fill the cooler even when you say you don't want to keep your limit. It's short sighted and the slaughter culture needs to change.
