Moment! Lexi Thompson gives Bizarre Answer after being asked about a Mishit Chip in the Solheim Cup

In an incredibly bizarre moment at the Solheim Cup, American golfer Lexi Thompson dismissively answered a reporter’s question about a crucial moment in her Friday afternoon four-ball match.

Thompson and her playing partner Lilia Vu were tied with Europe’s Leona Maguire and Georgia Hall going into the 18th hole.

On her third shot, Thompson attempted a chip onto the green – but shanked it. Maguire would chip in and win Europe’s first point of the day.

In a press conference following the match a reporter asked, ‘Could you talk about the third shot on 18? There was some question about what you were trying to do and what you did on the third shot. Could you just go through it for us?’

Shockingly, Thompson replied, ‘I don’t need to comment on that.’

After the reporter said ‘excuse me’ in an attempt to clarify, Thompson ended up repeating herself saying in a slightly patronizing tone ‘I don’t need to comment on the chip’ before eventually giving more of an answer.

‘It was a bad lie and I didn’t hit a good chip, but it was pretty much impossible,’ she said.

The reporter thanked her for the answer, at which point American captain Stacy Lewis was heard muttering under her breath ‘That’s a terrible question’.

It was, in fact, not a terrible question. That moment proved to be the deciding factor in a competitive four-ball match which helped Europe climb back into the competition.

The Americans went 4-0 in their morning foursome play – with Thompson and playing partner Danielle Kang winning 2&1 among other results.

But Europe got back into the swing of things by halving two matches and winning two others – including the Thompson/Vu vs. Maguire Hall match.

By the time Saturday morning finished up, the Americans didn’t get any more of an advantage over Europe – with a 7-5 lead. Thompson was re-united with Kang and won their foursome over Maguire and Anna Nordqvist one-up.

Thompson, who is active on social media, did not address this press conference on either Twitter or Instagram.

  1. I used to like Lexi but cmon man. You duffed it, just laugh and say sorry, it is what it is. The lie was clearly not THAT bad you needed to shank it 50 yds right. Your beauty will fade. Let ppl know your human. Bad lie lol

  2. Lexi should had just said: It's an effing shank, What! you blind? hahaha
Instead of getting testy with reporter. Some of these reporters are
asking to get a reaction from players in moody situations.

  3. It's not a bizarre question he gave her a chance to explain what happened … maybe the lie was awful or she had a bug fly into her eye and she could take some of the heat off by explaining but instead she reacted horribly "I dont need to comment on the golf shot I hit here at this press conference covering the golf we played today" 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

  4. Lexi gave a great answer….you asked a stupid question..you get a straight forward answer……what part don't you understand Mr. Stupid press guy!

  5. The question was okay. Lexi answered it after she said she wouldn’t answer it. Looking at it on tv it did not look easy but it certainly wasn’t as hard as Lexi said it was. Getting it on the green was paramount. It was not an impossible shot. However it was not Lexi’s fault they lost the cup. I will give you three names of Americans that choked on the back nine. Corpuz, Korda and Kupcho. Go back and see how those three putted on the singles matches. The Euro’s stood up and made putts, the Americans stood up and missed numerous putts. America could have and should have won the cup with a minimum of 15 points. The rookies did not lose the cup, the veterans did.

  6. Quite a bizarre question to ask in the first place but some commentators have thick skins or bloody noses. Why does she have to answer his question i wouldn't either.
